We fight the unimaginable so we can witness the incredible.
Hanover, Pa. – The public is invited to participate in a discussion on current efforts and strategies regarding the “Borough of Hanover Streetscape – Design and Beautification Plan” at a meeting to be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Guthrie Memorial Library’s Bare Center.
The meeting comes as the next step in the design process which began in March 2019 when public feedback was gathered regarding desired features and amenities to enhance the downtown “core” to provide
a more welcoming and accommodating space. Through a selection process in October 2022, consulting and design firm Dewberry was selected to collect and assess additional data. Their initial ideas were recently presented to primary stakeholders. The public presentation to be held on October 11 offers time for further public input and discussion.
This is a truly exciting and historical moment in the history of the Hanover community! The strategy that comes from this effort will literally shape the landscape of your town. Come participate and be heard!
This article was written and provided by The Borough of Hanover. Registration is not required for this event and attendees are invited to simply show up on the day of the presentation.
The “Borough of Hanover Streetscape – Design and Beautification Plan” project is set to target Center Square and the surround streets, reaching Park Ave, Franklin Street, Middle Street, and School Avenue from the square.

WELLSPAN HEALTH THE FIRST HEALTH SYSTEM IN PENNSYLVANIA TO EARN NCQA HEALTH EQUITY ACCREDITATION
YORK, Pa. (AUGUST 30, 2023) –WellSpan Health is one of just three health systems across the country, and the first in Pennsylvania, to receive the Health Equity Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). NCQA awards the accreditation to organizations that are leaders in addressing health equity, analyzing clinical performance and consumer experience through a comprehensive framework.
“WellSpan Health is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive culture where fairness and equity is a top priority. We are extremely proud to have achieved the prestigious NCQA Health Equity Accreditation, which symbolizes our unwavering dedication to this crucial endeavor,” said Kim Brister, Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at WellSpan Health. “The prevalence of racial and ethnic disparities continues to be a barrier to receiving quality health care for too many Americans. I am proud of the work being done here at WellSpan to address those issues, and we are fully committed to continuing that work moving forward.”
NCQA’s Health Equity Accreditation evaluates how well an organization complies with standards in the following areas:
• Organizational readiness
• Race/ethnicity
• Language
• Gender identify and sexual orientation
• Access and availability of language services
• Practitioner network cultural responsiveness
• Culturally and linguistically appropriate services programs
• Reducing health care disparities
WellSpan’s efforts to improve breast cancer screening rates for Black and Hispanic women, address maternal morbidity, and organize data by race, ethnicity and language to help identify disparities all contributed to the organization meeting all of the standards evaluated in order to

receive this accreditation.
“We have been working toward this accreditation since early last year, and we are thrilled to have met NCQA’s rigorous requirements for health equity,” said Dr. Mike Seim, senior vice president and chief quality officer, WellSpan Health. “This nationally recognized accreditation is validation that we are on the right track, and the entire health system will continue to work hard toward addressing and eliminating barriers to health care for the people of South Central Pennsylvania.”
“Earning Health Equity Accreditation shows that an organization is making a breakthrough in providing excellent health care to diverse populations. I congratulate any organization that achieves this level of distinction,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “Eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health care is essential to improving the quality of care overall.”
The accreditation is awarded as a three-year term, effective through 2026.
Earlier this year, WellSpan was recognized for its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, training programs and leadership by national regional publications.
THE MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION AND PARTNERS INVITED TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE GRANT
York, PA – On August 16, 2023, A consortia of organizations led by the Manufacturers’ Association, was invited to apply for grant assistance under the $30 million Fiscal Year
2023 Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program following a competitive selection process. The consortia, the Central PA Shipbuilding Talent and Innovation Defense Ecosystem (T.I.D.E) project was one of only six projects selected nationally to apply for grant funds after a proposal was submitted in late June. The five-year grant will make long term investments in critical skills, facilities, workforce development, research and development, and small business support to strengthen the national security innovation base. According to the US Navy, Pennsylvania is home to the largest number of critical shipbuilding suppliers in the nation, making it a key region in supporting the country’s national defense.
The consortia will support the U.S. Navy’s national security goal of increasing production of the submarine fleet by supporting a sustainable pipeline of skilled manufacturing talent and increasing adoption of automation technology by the submarine industrial base. Specifically, the project will focus on increasing the talent pool for critical defense occupations in machinist pathways, welding and industrial maintenance which are in short supply. Led by the Manufacturers’ Association, located in central PA, the project partners also include the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Innovation Institute, MANTEC, Inc., Innovative Manufacturers Center, FANUC America, Partnership of Career Development, York County Alliance for Learning, and the York County Economic Alliance. Educational partners include the County Career and Tech High Schools (Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Mifflin,
Lancaster, Lebanon, York), Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and Harrisburg Area Community College. Additional supporting partners also included the regional defense sector employers, Southcentral PA Industry Partnership, Lancaster County Workforce Development Board, SCPa Works, and the local defense community partners of Cumberland County Area Economic Development Corporation, and the Franklin County Economic Development Corporation, and Lebanon Valley Economic Development Corporation.
The US Department of Defense program is authorized under the National Defense Authorization Act, which enabled the Secretary of Defense to establish a program to designate and support consortiums as defense manufacturing communities to strengthen the national security industrial base. The funding and technical assistance provided through the program enhances a region's ability to narrow gaps and address needs in defense manufacturing in the critical skills, facilities, research and development, and small business support. An invitation to apply for a grant must be reviewed by the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation prior to an actual award being issued and funds obligated.
