Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for your support during 2018, we look forward to seeing you on some of our events in 2019. Town Park and Pets Corner staff and volunteers.

Harlow Town Park - Update October 2018 The park is recovering from very dry, hot conditions over the summer and has had some welcome rain to help top up soil water levels, plus assistance from the Town Park volunteers and HTS staff watering during the drought, for which we are very grateful. We are monitoring many of the shrub beds and hope to replant areas that have suffered such as the Rhododendron Dell.

We have continued to invest in improving and restoring the Walled Garden- you may have noticed scaffolding being erected where repairs are needed, so safeguarding the wall’s future. There are plans to install a small classroom as the existing learning Centre is regularly fully booked. Harlow College Supported Studies students are back after their summer break and have dug over the two raised brick beds, assisted by volunteers from Open Road, who meet at the Walled Garden every Thursday.

In the rest of the park we have installed larger and sturdier litter bins to cope with the increased waste generated by our growing number of visitors. Several Town Park volunteers have started on a bench refurbishment programme. New welcome boards have been installed at the Greyhound and Altham Grove car parks and new fingerposts installed across the park which will help visitors locate the Adventure Playground, Pets’ Corner toilets and other facilities. We are looking forward to our October half-term activities with Quantum Theatre performing a play about WW1, appropriate for this year which marks the Centenary of the end of the war. We are planning events leading up to Christmas, and are pleased to announce the return of the popular ‘Carols on the Terrace’ in association with Cafés in the Park, Little Parndon Primary School and Harlow Brass Banddetails are in the programme. Every quarter the Town Park Users Group (TPUG) hold their meeting in the Learning Centre at 7pm (the leaflet promotes their next meeting in early December) and are always looking for new members. If you are interested in the group or anything mentioned here, contact Mike Levett, Education & Volunteer Officer on 01279 435466 or email mike.levett@harlow.gov.uk
