DEVELOPING AN EFFECTIVE WEBSITE FOR
ONLINE For many business firms, creating a website is about dumping all information about their firm and product with a few images thrown in, which dissuades your customers from reading on. It is important to decide your goals behind the website - whether it is there for your company presence or you are selling directly through it. Once this is defined, you can get set to work on your site. Here are a few essential guidelines on making your website more effective. •
•
•
•
Keep the content simple with lucid style of writing and easy to read font. Avoid lengthy paragraphs and juxtapose the text with images. Using Flash, videos and other animated content can make your site more attractive but use it sparingly or it will become annoying for the viewer. Give out information about the products or services you offer but stay away from making it look too persuasive. Keep updating your website about the latest news about your company and also inform the visitors about any future launches or new offerings from your firm.
MARKETING By: Genevieve Mckinney

Keep updating your website about the latest news about your company and also inform the visitors about any future launches or new offerings from your firm.
Develop content that goes beyond product descriptions. Offer some tips or ideas to visitors that are relevant to your product. For instance, if you are selling gym equipment, offer tips on fitness and healthy diets. This will motivate many visitors to linger for a little while more. You can also go a step further and offer links to other interesting articles and sites that are related to your business. Say, if you are selling baby food, provide links to articles and blogs that deal with parenting and infant nutrition. This way, you are not just promoting your products but also promoting your brand image as someone who cares and understands the needs of mothers and babies.
A website does a lot more than helping you sell your wares. It creates and manages your brand image. It projects and promotes your brand personality by building relationships and spreading awareness that will reward you in the future.

USING CONTENT MARKETING EFFECTIVELY By: Steve Barnes
It is important to make your content SEO friendly by choosing the right keywords. But overdoing this can make your content look sloppy. So use keywords for sure but do it in a smart way without ruining the look of your content.
As business firms explore more ways of effective online advertising, audience too are becoming adept at ignoring annoying and irrelevant information. Whether it is a banner ad with a single line of text or a company blog with lots of information, it is difficult to attract customers’ attention if your content is ineffective. Content marketing is all about creating simple, creative and interesting content and distributing it to your customers or target audience through various social media networks or online marketing spaces. Here are a few rules to keep in mind while developing effective content. KEEP IT SIMPLE: Many firms make the mistake of creating lengthy articles to give out information about their business. It is important to know that too much content can turn off a potential customer because many internet users keep surfing very fast and are not patient enough to go through too much stuff. So keep the wording lucid and choose a font that is easy to read fast. USING KEYWORDS EFFECTIVELY: It is important to make your content SEO friendly by choosing the right keywords. But overdoing this can make your content look sloppy. So use keywords for sure but do it in a smart way without ruining the look of your content. CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLATFORM: In traditional media, your ad copy is designed, depending on the kind of media it is being made for. For example, a copy designed for television may not work for radio. Similarly, it is important to know which platform your content is going to use and create it accordingly. Also, keep your target audience in mind when you are generating content. BE INFORMAL: the current online marketing strategies depend heavily on interactivity and two-way communication. It is about building a long term bond irrespective of whether the person is immediately going to buy your product or not. So develop content that is informal, friendly and personalized. It should motivate the customers for active participation.

THE CATS THAT GOT THE CREAM Franchise Owner Abi Purser on building a business empire with luxury cat hotels “Every Longcroft hotel looks beautiful, but most importantly the behind the scenes processes have been honed to perfection with animal welfare being at the forefront of our mission.”
When did you come up with the idea for a luxury cat hotel? The idea was born out of necessity. In 2009 we had booked a three week holiday and couldn’t find anywhere suitable for our beloved cat Norman (no laughing!) to stay!
Did you expect to have the success you have experienced when you launched the business? In a word, no. I knew I wanted Longcroft to be the best business of its kind in the UK, but after opening in the summer of 2010 the client base grew much faster than expected. We were fully booked within weeks. At Christmas in 2010 we turned away over 200 bookings, about £26,000 of business, because we simply didn’t have the capacity to take clients on. At that point I knew things had to change – and fast!
Quotable: “Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months.” ~Clifford Stoll
How is Longcroft unique from other existing Cat Hotel businesses? It’s all about the detail. We are incredibly detail-oriented, whether it be from the choice of bedding to the materials we use in construction. Every element has been chosen for a very specific reason. Every Longcroft hotel looks beautiful, but most importantly the behind the scenes processes have been honed to perfection with animal welfare being at the forefront of our mission. We never sit still and are constantly innovating and tweaking things, which is the main reason have won so many business awards recently. Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden named us Smarta 100 2012 winners, marking Longcroft as one of the top 100 businesses in the UK today. We were also crowned Best New Business in Hertfordshire in 2012.
Did you envisage Longcroft as being a franchise business? For now, yes. It still offers us a lot of control on which way the brand is directed, which is very important to our long term success. We also love the family element that we’ve managed to create with our franchise, we all speak on the phone regularly and meet up for dinner together. And I still run the original hotel, Longcroft Welwyn, which puts me in a franchisee’s position every day. This makes mentoring new franchisees much more efficient as I can relate to every aspect of the job and any difficulties or problems that could arise. And we can certainly expand further, so the franchise model helps with that. We have had a lot of interest internationally and the model could be tweaked slightly for those markets.
Why is Longcroft particularly suited to being a franchise? We structured Longcroft around our franchisees’ busy lives. As a young mum myself who is juggling home, family and work, my mission was to create an enjoyable, profitable and sustainable business that I could run from my home on a part time basis.
What about the franchising business model appealed to you? We have complete control over choosing our franchisees, which is important. When owners come to view us they are just as interested to meet the cat hotelier as to view the hotel. People buy people! It’s also a very cost effective way of growing business.
What support do you offer franchisees? Longcroft has a dedicated PR team who create a launch plan for each hotel. We use our press contacts to arrange for franchisees to get featured on local press, radio and potentially TV. This ensures that their Longcroft Hotel opening gains an immediate high profile within their region. We also have an annual marketing plan which includes month by month campaigns to ensure bookings are kept at full volume, and a price tracker to keep prices at the optimum level. Finally we have fully designed promotional templates – for local advertising, leaflets and email newsletters for franchisees to make use of, plus a supportive network of head office team and other franchisees, who they will get to know via regular phone and face to face get-togethers.
Are you concerned that opening your business to franchisees could harm your brand? To begin with, of course. Longcroft is like my fourth child!
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to open a franchise business?
What advantages will franchisees have over starting their own cat hotel brand? Joining an established multi award winning business is great comfort for cat owners wishing to use Longcroft hotels. This in itself is invaluable. To launch as a solo cat hotel and build these elements of your business from scratch, including creating and registering a business and domain name, building a website and social media network, designing stationery, and commissioning photographers, writers, PR and Marketing, would cost in excess of £25,000. The Longcroft joining fee is just £12,000, so it represents great value. But also, aside from the money, there are the networking benefits that come from joining the Longcroft family. The reassurance that there’s always someone to reach out to when needed cannot be valued. It’s a ‘mini’ business link without the annual fees, and with those who have an intimate knowledge and understanding of your business.
Do you have any criteria you look for in a potential Longcroft franchisee? Firstly they must be personable and animal loving. I make sure I conduct all of the interviews personally and prefer it if franchisees have no previous experience as we do things so differently at Longcroft. Of course there are other elements to consider like the type of propertysome properties would never obtain planning permission around the constraints of licensing etc. Planning is very involved, and can go wrong very early on which is why we take care of it. Funding is another hurdle for some people but most of our franchisees are profitable within year two, making business plans robust and commercial loans easier to obtain.
Make sure you find the right person to advise you on turning your business from one business to multiple. Go with recommendation. Ask yourself: Will there be enough profit? How will I market? How will I get new franchisees cost effectively? Do I need an investor? Can I afford one? Research is key. Have faith in your ability and go with your gut always!
Abi is currently looking for a franchisee to open a new Longcroft in Brighton. For details visitwww.longcroftcathotel. co.uk

AN INTERVIEW WITH DIGITAL ANALYTICS EXPERT, KRISTA SEIDEN Krista Seiden is an experienced leader in the digital analytics and optimization industry. She was recognized as a 2014 “Rising Star by the Digital Analytics Association (DAA) Awards for Excellence. In her role as a Product Marketing Manager at Google, she leads web analytics, reporting, testing, and optimization for the Enterprise Marketing team. She has evangelized optimization internally and expanded A/B testing efforts over 15-fold to the point where her team executes over 50 tests per quarter. As more and more businesses look to hire people with strong experience in testing, optimization, and analytics, people like Krista are in high demand. We were curious to learn how her career has unfolded and hear her advice for others looking to enter into this burgeoning field.

"Discover The Steps On How To Start Your Very Own Recurring Membership Site And Get Paid Month After Month" In This Course, You'll Find Out How To Get Started With Your Own Membership Site, How To Structure it, What Type of Content To Provide, Pricing And Much more
Why Should You Create a Membership Site? Essentially, a membership site is a site that users pay to subscribe to. This normally works by first enticing the reader
with some free content and showing them the kind of entertainment/information/value that you’re capable of providing. Once they’re hooked, you then make sure they know that they need to subscribe in order to gain access to your very best content and to get frequently updated. So what’s so different about this? Well for starters, it means that you can much more easily convert visitors to paying customers seeing as they’re not having to put down a large amount of money and seeing as they know what they’re getting right away. This means the money is recurring and much more predictable.

MWM ask the expert Optimizely: To start off, please tell us about your career in digital analytics. How did you arrive at where you are now? Krista: I’ve had an interesting and diverse career spanning several companies and focus areas. I started out in the space as an internal practitioner at Adobe (pre-Omniture acquisition). In addition to web analytics, I focused on optimization and helped run several split tests for their core cloud product offerings. After Adobe, I spent some time at the Apollo Group (parent company of the University of Phoenix) as a product analyst responsible for all digital metrics for their classroom social media platform and mobile apps. We used a variety of platforms, including Google Analytics, Coremetrics, several social platforms and BI tools such as Business objects & Microstrategy. I built a skill set around UX testing and paired the qualitative data we received from user testing with quantitative data to tell a complete story. I then moved onto to Google where I currently run the analytics & optimization program for the Enterprise group. In this role I manage the implementation & high level reporting for six core product offerings and run an A/B testing program which executes upwards of 50 tests/quarter.
MWM 22
What advice do you have for people looking to explore a career in analytics, testing, optimization, data application? Get hands on—if you have a personal website or blog, get a free Google Analytics account and start tracking your site data. Try running a simple A/B test on your own—there are several A/B testing tools which will help you do this with minimal effort (Content Experiments within GA and Optimizely are both great options). Read the blogs and twitter feeds of the top minds in the industry. I’d also recommend getting involved with the Analysis Exchange, an organization which pairs analytics mentors with students to run a free analytics project for a non-profit business. It’s a great way to get hands on and learn from an experienced digital analyst.
How do you see the industry changing in the next few years? The industry is moving fast—there are constantly new tools, new faces, and new ways of thinking. But let’s not forget the basics. It’s important not to overlook the simple things as the industry moves towards more advanced and complex tools. I also see privacy as being a growing concern and something the digital analytics industry as a whole needs to address.
MWM 23
Can you give an example of where your expertise had a particularly strong impact in your organization? I’ve had the opportunity to guide several organizations through product and web development by adding the analytics and optimization layer to the equation. One example I like to give comes from my experience working on mobile app analytics at the Apollo Group. While developing v2 of our classroom app, I must have made 4 or 5 trips from SF to Phoenix to sit in on UX lab studies for how students were reacting to and using the v2 app (throughout various stages of dev). After I attended those sessions I was able to better understand the data we were seeing on the analytics side and that deeper understanding led to several features tweaks and enhancements in the v2 app. It was very powerful to see the combination of quantitative & qualitative come together to influence development to make a better experience for our students.
“Pairing quantitative and qualitative data together makes for a much more powerful story than raw data alone. Think about the user!”
What have you learned about the potential and limits about digital analytics, marketing analytics? Data is great, you can learn and understand a lot about your business by looking at your data. But quantitative data is only part of the story— understanding the customer and reading between the spreadsheet rows is important. Pairing quantitative and qualitative data together makes for a much more powerful story than raw data alone. Think about the user!

USING BLOGS FOR ONLINE MARKETING By: Florence Pierce Blogs are being churned out by everyone today- students, home makers, professionals, school kids, and almost everyone who love writing and strongly feel about sharing their ideas and experiences with others. But what is actually turning blogs into prized essentials is their value in online marketing strategies. Whether you are a fortune 500 company or just a small entrepreneur, writing and maintaining a blog for your company can be very rewarding and the bonus is that it quite inexpensive when compared to many other marketing or advertising strategies. Blogs are very flexible when it comes to using them for marketing. Firstly, you can make them Search Engine Optimized so they have a high visibility rate. Secondly, they give you an opportunity to interact and engage with your potential customers. They give an idea of your target groups and you can devise your content or other strategies based on this.
Unlike a website, a blog has a more personal appeal. So instead of just putting out information about your product or service, provide information about the business process and your business goals in an informal language. Using too much technical jargon can make it boring so use simple language and terms and make the content interesting. Remember, people should not get the feeling that they are reading an information brochure. When you are planning of implementing new ideas for your business, share them on your blog and watch out for customer feedback. Sometimes, this can help you to know the exact requirements of your target customers and plan accordingly. Communication is very important in marketing, so make it point to respond to the comments and posts of your followers on the blog. You can also share a whole lot of information or interesting facts or trivia or even your general views about the world around you. This helps developing a relationship with customers. Give your marketing a winning edge with a well written blog that can help build a long-term customer base and a general good will.

BOOSTING BUSINESS THROUGH SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION By: Shannon Ball Online marketing relies on various tactics to increase its visibility among the internet users but an important factor that contributes in this is the ranking of your website among the listings of the search engines. This is of great importance because, say you are selling stationary but when someone uses the words ‘stationary’ in the search engine, your website is nowhere to be seen. Chances are, the user will be more interested in going through the top results and will not bother to continue to the second or third pages. This is a problem many businesses or services face when they are new to online marketing but knowing a few basic tips about SEO or Search Engine Optimization will help you to make your website content highly visible. First make a research of all the top keywords related to your business and make sure to use one in your title. Also use a couple of keywords in the link. To help you with the keyword research, you can rely on keyword discovery tools online and if you don’t want to pay there are some which offer free versions too.
To help you with the keyword research, you can rely on keyword discovery tools online and if you don’t want to pay there are some which offer free versions too. Once you are done with the titles and links, use keywords in your content as much as possible. But this should not be overdone because using too many keywords can make your content look dubious to the users, thereby raising doubts about the quality of your business. Make sure the same keywords are not repeated too many times and use them wisely to give a natural look to the content. HTML text is always more easily visible to the search engines. So if there are a lot of animations or audio or video content, create tags in HTML text, describing them. Though making your site Search Engine Optimized does take time, using these basic rules can help push your business site to the top gradually.

CREATING SUCCESSFUL ONLINE BUSINESSES THROUGH EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FUN By: Tal Gur
“It’s really about honing and developing your common sense – that is, a natural barometer of figuring out the “right thing” to do, that goes beyond the objective facts that are presented.”
Have you started an online business but feel like it could be better? Terry is the mastermind behind SOBCon Conferences now in its seventh year. The conferences give business leaders the opportunity to learn, develop skills, plan, and strategize with a small group. Each session includes time for attendees to apply the concepts and ideas to their own businesses with the help of other business leaders attending. Let’s see if we can capture some of Terry “Starbucker” St. Marie’s wisdom and energy, in asking him about his life, his leadership, and his business. Enjoy!
1. Hi Terry, Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How did you become an entrepreneur? How difficult was the transition from a corporate job to pursuing your personal business interests? What ultimately led you to make a lifestyle change? I started my career as a CPA back in 1982, and then a twist of fate put me into the cable TV industry, and executive management, in 1987. I served in several executive capacities in cable for the better part of the next 23 years. My bosses were long-time entrepreneurs that I grew to admire, because of their guile, acumen, and fearlessness. When my last cable gig ended (successfully) in 2010 I decided to make the jump to entrepreneur myself, and I’ve not looked back. It was time. 2. In the corporate world, one’s identity is often defined by one’s title and job description. Did that change when you started your own company? In your mind how is your identity evolving? How does that impact what and how you do things? That’s a very interesting question – the identity thing does change. Now, I’m outside “context”; that is, a previously defined corporate situation. As an entrepreneur, I have to create my own context. And that’s an entirely different conversation. I’m basically learning how to do that as I go along, but I’ve been blessed with sitting in the middle of a pretty robust startup community here in Portland, and that has been inspiring. 3. Your “Crash Davis Belief Statement” is a wonderful combination of values, family, business, faith, and joy. Toward the end you list “the incredible wisdom of my grandmother?” What was that wisdom? How has your grandmother and her wisdom impacted your life? When my grandmother was celebrating her 100th birthday about 6 years ago, she leaned over to me and said – “live, laugh and love Terry – that’s what I’ve tried to do all these years, and it’s what has sustained me”. It’s had a huge impact on me. What a great lady she was. 4. What do you think is the most important quality a business leader needs to develop? Why? If that does not come naturally, how can one nurture that quality? It’s really about honing and developing your common sense – that is, a natural barometer of figuring out the “right thing” to do, that goes beyond the objective facts that are presented. All too often this quality is not used in decision-making, and that often leads to an unhealthy working environment – there’s no humanity injected into the equation. 5. As you work with business leaders, what do you think the top common struggles are? Is seems like what presents as a problem is sometimes really more of a symptom of a different issue. Do you find that to be the case? If so, how do you help leaders to get to that deeper level vision? The top struggle, in my view, is wrestling our fear to the floor – not out of sight, not out the door, but on the floor. What I mean by that is it has to be controlled – fear can be quite motivating, certainly – but the paralysis that fear can cause just HAS to be avoided. A lot of bad decisions really come down to NOT keeping fear on the floor. 6. It is clear through your writing that you believe and operate in a servant leadership style. Has that always been the case or is that a style that experience led you to? How do employees react? I had to learn about servant leadership the hard way – that is, I made a lot of mistakes when I was thrust into an executive role in 1987. I came to realize that it wasn’t about me – it was about them, and I needed to fulfill the book definition of “lead” – show the way. When you are showing the way the RIGHT way, employees will follow you.
“If work isn’t fun, it isn’t worth doing.”
7. You are an advocate of making customer service a priority. What does “good” customer service entail? Is poor customer service an issue in very many businesses? Good customer service should come naturally – after all, there are humans involved. I use the “Golden Rule” a lot when I make presentations about this – “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself”. You wouldn’t want to be treated rudely, or unfairly, or dispassionately – so why do it to someone else? Once teammates fully understand this, and buy into it, and can put it in the context of their own fulfillment as an employee, the sky’s the limit on customer satisfaction and loyalty. 8. There is a SOBCon conference coming in May in Chicago. Tell us about the conference. Who is the conference designed for? Are there things people can do in advance to be better prepared to get the most out of the gathering? What do people take away from the gathering? Are there any changes to the program this session? Yes, we’re having another SOBCon (the SOB stands for Successful Online Business) in Chicago this May (May 3-5). It’s designed for people who are looking to take their dreams and ideas, and turn them into real action. There’s a lot of interaction – attendees are put into Mastermind groups of 4 or 5 people, and we leave a lot of time in the program to foster some real and deep conversations. We also have great speakers who put out a ton of awesome ideas that can foster the push to action. It’s a transformative experience that can change your life. This year’s theme is the Customer Centered Business. 9. Another conference is held each year in Portland. Is the program design the same for both? Do you notice any difference in the people or the needs of the people attending the two conferences? The design is the same for both events –it’s only the location and general theme that is different. 10. In one of your blogs you mentioned the importance of work being “fun.” Do you think that is a consideration in most businesses? Why is it important? How does one make work fun? If work isn’t fun, it isn’t worth doing. You know the quote by James Michener ? That says it all– it’s one of my favorites: “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” That’s what I’m shooting for! 11. Terry, you made a lot of services available to people who are looking to take their business further. What are you planning next? I’m writing a book on leadership that I’m hoping to publish soon – it’s a distillation of my 30 year journey into some very practical advice to take your leadership, and your business, further. Stay tuned! Thank You! Thank YOU Tal, it’s been a pleasure!

PINTEREST STRATEGIES FOR ONLINE MARKETING
Pinterest and it’s use for marketing are working well in the realms of online marketing but as more and more firms and businesses are proving its effectiveness, it makes sense to start knowing the basics and start using this addictive strategy to increase your visibility and tell about yourself in an illustrative way. STAY ORGANIZED: keeping your pins organized makes it easier for the viewers to go through them. Plan a theme or topic and start adding the relevant pins. You can have separate pin boards for products, new launches, events or even more specific ones like all party dresses in one board while the casual outfits would go to another one. VISUAL APPEAL: Pinterest ranks high on the visual appeal element because viewers are generally drawn to pins that have beautiful images. So, when you are pinning, make sure the pins are not just informative but have a good aesthetic value too. GET INNOVATIVE: You may be a business firm who is there on Pinterest just for promoting your products and creating awareness for them, but you don’t have to pin images of your products all the time. You can pin any interesting picture that is relevant to your product or inspires your business. For instance, if you own a grocery chain, you can pin images of the countryside, smiling faces of people or children, etc. GET ACTIVE: Pinterest is also a social networking site where you can interact with other users. So, start engaging with other users by following their boards, repining content from other boards and liking pins that are relevant to your business. Pinterest is relatively new in the online marketing world but is a great avenue to exhibit your wares, your interests and your inspirations, successfully building brand associations and relationships.
Pinterest ranks high on the visual appeal element because viewers are generally drawn to pins that have beautiful images. So, when you are pinning, make sure the pins are not just informative but have a good aesthetic value too.

Affiliate marketing is used by business from firms like Amazon.com to hosting services. Simply put, affiliate marketing occurs when other websites post the advertisement or link to the site and the advertiser pays them once a sale occurs resulting from this lead. The concept is similar to athletic and celebrity sponsorship. The reputation of the referrer and their visitor trust leads the viewer to buy the product.
THE METHODS
MWM 54
To manage the record keeping and the complex tracking of affiliate programs, businesses often look toward online commission and affiliate services like JVZoo or WarriorPlus For a fee, charged to affiliate marketers only, they will track the conversion and referrals, offer realtime stats for the members, offer reports to measure the ad success, pay the affiliates for their leads resulting in sales and advertise the affiliate program to their large compilation of webmasters interested in joining the affiliate program. They also combine banner and link downloads for the affiliates Though straightforward, especially for the business using an administrative management service as mentioned above, it’s important to follow best practice and avoid the pitfalls that can sink the success. First provide strong affiliate management and customer service. The program brings in a completely new set of customers that need the support – affiliates. They’re bringing revenue, sponsoring the business and spreading word of mouth. Make sure they have strong and compelling reasons to speak highly of products or services and continue to gain the sales through their lead. Next, develop FAQ's or frequently asked questions, specifically for the affiliate marketers. Answer their questions proactively to ease their mind on topics such as cost for joining, payment schedule, contact information and commission they’ll earn. Walk them through the sign-up and management process in a step-by-step instructional. Be available when they have questions, answering promptly and clearly. How do they sign up? Where do they go? How do they track leads? When businesses or an individual sign-up for programs or offer personal information, they need reassurance that their information is protected. Develop affiliate rules in the privacy policy explaining how their data is used, where it is disclosed and what notification process the business takes when updating these rules. In short, affiliate marketing occurs when websites post an advertisement or link to one’s site, which in turn pays the advertiser when a sale occurs as a result of this lead. The concept is similar to athletic and celebrity sponsorship. The referrer’s reputation and their visitor’s trust pushes the sale.
Understanding How Affiliate Marketing Works If you are looking for an extra stream of income, the internet is a big place of opportunity. Go online and browse through tons of money making potentials. One of the most popular ones is affiliate marketing. It is a business model where merchants pay people for bringing in customers or visitors through their online efforts.
You may be overwhelmed with the information that you will find over the internet on how affiliate marketing works. It is really a very simple process when you look at the big picture. Remember, the more you complicate things, the harder money will come your way.
Choose a good product to push This is the most basic rule that you must follow. Affiliate marketing will be your cash cow if you have good products to promote. You need to research and be very sensitive to the needs of the market. Competition in affiliate marketing, like in any other business, is very stiff. Remember though that competition is a good gauge how popular a product is and how the market reacts to it. It will be a very good opportunity to be the first, but going for what already sells also pays well.
Traffic, Traffic, Traffic Traffic will be the blood of your business. Without the consumers who will pay interest to the product you are pushing, there will be no profits to take.
Learn the different ways to bring in traffic. Some of the most popular ways are Pay Per Click, Blog
commenting, Forum posting, and article marketing.
You will build your wealth once you master how to build your list and have a base of buying visitors or followers.
Get Paid for Your Efforts Taking home the bacon is the concept of affiliate marketing. The business that you help through your effort will share the revenues that they get.
Businesses will appreciate visitors that will buy from them, and for this you will be paid a percentage of their earnings. These earnings can be sent to you directly through check or deposited directly to your bank account.
Affiliate marketing can definitely boost your income. It is not a get rich magic scheme though. As an affiliate, you will have to work your way to the top and enjoy a glass of champagne when you get there!

JULIE AUSTIN: CREATOR OF SWIGGIES WRIST WATER BOTTLES By: Isabel Isidro
Carrying around a water bottle is not the most convenient when you are running or doing other forms of exercise. But since you need to stay hydrated, you need to have a water bottle with you, cumbersome it may be, when you go to the gym or jog in your neighborhood.
“Once you get to the point where you have employees and distributors counting on you, it’s too late to back out. You have to step up to the plate and become a leader.”
Julie Austin created a nifty little product that makes carrying water to stay hydrated during exercise so much easier and more manageable. She invented Swiggies, a little gadget that you can wear in your wrist that solves every active individual’s water bottle dilemma. Visit http://swiggies.com to check out Julie’s invention.
http://websitemarketingmagazine.com/recommends/stockfootage/
We interviewed Julie and how she created her successful product, Swiggies:
Can you tell us about your product Swiggies? Swiggies, wrist water bottles are the only hands-free wrist water bottles on the market. They come in an adult and a kid’s size. The adult swiggies hold 11 ounces of water or sports drink and the kids version holds 8. They come in a variety of sizes and can also be frozen to lower body temperature in the heat.
How did you come up with the idea for the product? What need did you see in the marketplace? I came up with the idea after passing out from dehydration while running in the middle of the summer heat. The only thing on the market at the time was a fanny pack and they had to be washed out with baking soda after each use. I wanted something that was easier to use and more accessible.
What were the challenges you faced in turning the product from an idea to an actual prototype? How long did the process take? The challenges were huge! I had no money and no knowledge about manufacturing or getting a product on the market. Because of that it took years of working 2 jobs to save the money and a very big learning curve of constantly making mistakes.
How are you financing the business? I financed the business by working several jobs, maxing out credit cards, selling off whatever I owned and living frugally.
How are you protecting your business from potential copycats? I spend a good part of every single day fighting off copycats. It happens to every inventor, even the biggest companies out there. I have a system for knocking them off the Internet before it gets completely out of hand. If you don’t, they’ll multiply like cockroaches. I start out by being nice and letting them know they are infringing. Then, if they don’t respond or refuse to take the product down, I will contact the search engines and have them removed. Repeat offenders risk having their entire site banned by the search engines. I also started a site called Infringer Blacklist to document the frustrating struggle I was going through with copycats. Counterfeiting is a huge problem that costs the US billions of dollars, jobs, and dangerous products. I’m putting together an ebook on exactly how I have dealt with counterfeiters without spending a dime on attorneys.
How are you marketing your business? I have found out that the best market for my products is the promotional products market. They are always looking for something new, instead of the same old pens, hats, mugs and T-shirts. I sold 75,000 to the Dublin Marathon in one order. A typical order is 10,000 to a marathon or walk-a-thon. I also sell them online on my site in retail and I have distributors in over 20 countries who order in large volume and market themselves. One thing you find out with a new product is the different markets you never even thought of. I also sell them in the alcohol industry for parties, raves and Marti Gras. In the beginning I spent money on trade shows and things that never really got results. Now I just use SEO and PR.
You are currently offering your products on a wholesale basis. How did you start on this process and how has selling wholesale helps in growing your business? I don’t sell as much in wholesale as I do in large volume through distributors. You make much less per bottle, but it’s a lot easier to sell that way. Also, 90% of my business is international. In the beginning I would get them into stores on consignment and did a lot of drop shipping. I don’t really do that anymore, but I would recommend it to get started. When you have a new product, you just need to get out there anywhere and in every way you can to get noticed.
How are you balancing your business with your personal life? I don’t have much of a personal life! Fortunately, I love what I do. And I travel a lot for speaking engagements, which is my excuse for a vacation. You really need to have some downtime, even if it’s just a long weekend with no email or phone.
What lessons have you learned so far about being an entrepreneur? In the beginning, I just wanted to license my patent and go sit on a beach somewhere. Yeah, right! I had a licensing deal lined up with a big sporting goods company and it went back and forth between attorneys for almost a year. In that time the company went bankrupt and I decided I would just have to do it all myself. I really didn’t want to run a business, but the deeper I got into it, I found out that I had more strength and knowledge than I thought. Once you get to the point where you have employees and distributors counting on you, it’s too late to back out. You have to step up to the plate and become a leader. I now have single moms around the world who feed their kids with my product. That’s a lot of responsibility, but also very rewarding.
How do you see the business 5 years from now? I’ve spent years getting my business to the point that it’s kind of running on a system. Having a group of distributors out selling and having a website that sells means less work for me now. I can do the things I really enjoy, like Internet marketing, PR, and public speaking. Less than 15% of all patent holders in the world are women and I love teaching women the secrets I have for coming up with new inventions.
“Entrepreneurs are problem solvers. I would never say that it was easy, but I was determined to never become dependent on anyone else again. I had to succeed.” I just got back from training a group of Fortune 500 women executives from companies like AT&T and Coca Cola. The keynote speech was about why there are so few women inventors and what we can do to help change that number. My future goal is to at least double that 15%. There’s no reason women can’t be inventors, and in fact, women have a lot of traits that actually make them better inventors.
What lessons can you share other women entrepreneurs out there? When I first started my business, I had less than nothing. I was running from a dangerous relationship and literally had $5.00 to my name. I had to be very creative. But it was because of that creativity that I was able to become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are problem solvers. I would never say that it was easy, but I was determined to never become dependent on anyone else again. I had to succeed. So, if you have a good idea, go for it! You’ll always have people who tell you that you can’t do it, or your idea sucks, or you don’t have enough money, or any number of things. Listen to all of the advice and weed out what doesn’t make sense. After a while your gut instinct will be the most valuable asset you have.
