What is Offline Marketing? I keep hearing about it, but can’t really find out what it is? - Connie. Offline marketing is the opposite of online marketing. Online marketing is marketing/advertising done over the internet. Offline marketing is the traditional methods of marketing such as television/newspaper/magazine adverts, posters, jingles, etc. -Ed.

What is the best way to design a website so that someone with no html skills can update and edit it? I usually use Dreamweaver for web design, but it needs to be more simple than that. A client wants to be able to make small changes and add info to the site himself in the future. Any suggestions for software or an online service that would give me design freedom and control, yet be easy for him to edit? It would be best if it is cheap or free and it has to be able to run on a mac and a pc. Thanks in advance!. - Ken. For this type of setup, you really can’t go past Wordpress. You setup wordpress, do the initial design for your client and then give them the information to access the backend, and show them how to create pages and posts.. -Ed.

mwm news Over 85% of Marketers Plan to Raise Their Mobile Budgets Over 85 percent of marketers have reported that they plan to increase their mobile advertising budgets in the near future, according to a new study by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and MediaVest. According to the study, 95 percent of marketers are currently using or plan to incorporate mobile advertising into their marketing plans. Study participants reported that brand building, awareness, and customer retention were the most common objectives for their mobile advertising plan. "Mobile is a huge opportunity for marketers. [It's] territory that has yet to be fully tapped," said ANA President and Chief Executive Bob Liodice. "Brands are clearly excited about the possibilities, but at the same time, perceived success rates have not increased significantly. The industry as a whole must move quickly to standardize measurement practices and address privacy issues." Over 83 percent of those surveyed reported that brand building was a primary objective for their mobile advertising campaigns. Almost 78 percent of those surveyed said creating brand awareness was also a key motivator for their mobile marketing plans. Key motivators driving marketers to mobile included the ability to reach a unique audience, the chance to reach consumers on-the-go, and having location awareness. The most commonly used tactic in the mobile marketing arena is the use of mobile website ads. Over 84 percent of those surveyed said they were using mobile website ads to extend their marketing efforts. The second most used mobile marketing tool was reported to be search. Of those surveyed, 78 percent said they use mobile search advertising techniques despite feeling that they are not producing results. Only 53 percent of advertisers surveyed reported having success with their mobile campaigns. Along with the lack of results, surveyed participants also worried that they did not have the proper metrics to gauge mobile success. Fortytwo percent of those surveyed felt they lacked the proper metrics to measure the success of their mobile marketing campaigns. To come up with the study results ANA and MediaVest surveyed 68 client-side marketers in the fourth quarter of last year.

Global Ad Spend Grew 4.3% in Q3 2012 Global advertising spending jumped 4.3 percent in Q3 of last year, according to Nielsen's latest Global AdView Pulse report. Nielsen's report found that advertising spending in the Middle East and Africa had the highest year-over-year growth. North America, meanwhile, was the only area that saw a decline in ad spending from this time last year. "Growth in global ad spend accelerated in Q3. The Olympics, a major media event in all parts of the world, and the U.S. presidential election helped drive investment up," said Nielsen Global Head of Advertiser Solutions Randall Beard. "We'll be watching carefully to see if the growth was sustained in Q4 and into 2013, or if there's a dip in comparison to this year." According to Nielsen's report, $139 billion was spent on global advertising last quarter. Overall, the second half of 2012 saw global ad spending jump 2.7 percent when compared to the first half of the same year. The Middle East and Africa was found to have the highest amount of ad spend growth year-over-year. According to Nielsen's report, the region saw 18.9 percent growth from the same quarter in 2011. Latin America also saw strong gains in ad spending last quarter. The region was reported to show a 6.4 percent growth in ad spending year-over-year. According to the study, the only region to see a slight slump in ad spending for the quarter was North America. The region was found to have seen a 3.4 percent reduction in ad spending from Q3 2011 to Q3 2012. Despite the slump, certain industries did see specific gains in North America. The automotive industry, along with the industry and services sector, saw double digit gains in ad spending for the quarter. According to Nielsen, political ads from the U.S. presidential election were the primary reason for ad spend growth in the industry and services sector. Nielsen's study examines ad spending in the TV, newspapers, magazines, radio, outdoor, cinema, and Internet display industries to come up with its results.

FATIMA SPENCER: ETSY SELLER MAKING HER MARK By Isabel Isidro The rise of online auction sites have inspired crafters to turn their passions into a business. Instead of just creating their craft for their personal pleasure, many have turned these hobbies into viable, money-generating businesses. Online auction marketplaces such as eBay.com and Etsy.com, which is dedicated specifically for hand crafted items, provide these hobbyists with the tools and virtual storefronts they need to sell their products. Fatima Spencer designs classic handmade floral accessories for everyday wear, as well as special occasions. She turned to Etsy to open her storefront Flowers from Fatimahttp://FlowersFromFatima.etsy.com. While her business is still young, she has big plans for her handcrafted floral accessories business.

Some of the greatest challenges that I faced throughout the start of the business were economic. I started the business with very little money. I did not know how I was going to build a successful business, but I knew that I was going to do it.

Quotable:

“The Internet is a telephone system that's gotten uppity.” ~Clifford Stoll

Learn what inspired Fatima to turn her hobby into a business and the challenges she is facing: What inspired you to create the Flowers from Fatima? When I was younger, my family and I managed a community action program for the improvement of our neighborhood, known as Spencer’s Community Beautification Program. One of the tasks of the program included the planting of flowers throughout the neighborhood. It was a beautiful experience. I gained such an affinity for flowers by the end of our service that I tried my best to reconnect with our Mother Nature in many ways. One of those ways was the replication of the inspiring flowers that I had grown. I wore flowers in my hair ever since. It was all thanks to my brother, Alex Spencer, who truly motivated me to create a business. He also came up with the beautiful and catchy name, Flowers From Fatima. How do you describe your products? What influenced them? Who typically wears them? I would describe my products as feminine, exotic, and beautiful. Those are the words that I most often hear when people see my work and I have grown to envision them in that light. My floral accessories are influenced by everyday sights in nature, my emotions, and classic trends that I notice through the seasons. For example, Swarovski crystals seem to be very popular. And so, I’ve been using them often in some of my designs. No matter what the style, it appears that younger to middle-aged women typically wear flower accessories for special occasions, such as weddings and formal dances. Of course, you have a few women, like myself, who enjoy wearing flowers on a regular basis. What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced when starting this business? Some of the greatest challenges that I faced throughout the start of the business were economic. I started the business with very little money. I did not know how I was going to build a successful business, but I knew that I was going to do it. I am grateful that the business is flourishing with the great deal of energy that I have invested.

Why Etsy? What are the advantages of being an Etsy seller? Does Etsy attract the type of customer you are looking for? I chose to sell on Etsy because of the convenience and opportunity. Etsy is a great starting point for young entrepreneurs. Etsy offers great services, and a great way to network and gain exposure. Those are some of the greatest advantages of being an Etsy seller. With their easy navigation and developed audience, I’ve definitely attracted the type of customers that I’ve been hoping to gain with my business. It seems that brides LOVE Etsy, especially for special one-of-a-kind items. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far as an entrepreneur? The biggest lesson that I have learned so far as an entrepreneur is to follow your heart, while taking in the advice of others. The greatest gift about being an entrepreneur is the freedom. Everyone can tell you how THEY believe a successful business should be run, but not every suggestion may be appropriate for you. You’re got to stay in control of your destiny. I’ve kept my ears open and have taken heed to the useful information while leaving behind the irrelevant. So far, things have worked beautifully.

How are you marketing your business? Do you use social media such as Facebook and/or Twitter? Right now, I have been marketing my business through some social networking websites with greater focus, such as wedding and hair networks. I have also been featured in numerous blogs and magazine, online and locally. Outside of online marketing, I sell my product in two local boutiques and vend at various events. My business has been featured at a major networking event known as Goddess Night Out. I also bring promotional tools, such as business cards and brochures along with me, wherever I go. How has the economic downturn affected your business? How are you preparing your business for the recovery of the economy when customers are more willing to increase their spending? In the beginning, I did notice a very slow pickup. I started my business around Christmas of 2009. However, with time, I noticed that the business was blooming and customers were spending more with every visit. I am very hopeful and positive about this period in time. My customers have given me great confidence and such a positive outlook. I know that there are plenty of people who are willing to increase their spending, right now. It is just about using these times effectively. What are the challenges of working and running a business from home? One of the challenges of running a business from home is limited workspace. I love to create. As my business grows, so do the supplies. I often run out of space in my small apartment. My room is a garden, that just keeps growing. Eventually, my flowers will need a new home. I often tell myself that if I fill this room to the corners, a bigger and more comfortable home will materialize!

My customers have given me great confidence and such a positive outlook. I know that there are plenty of people who are willing to increase their spending, right now. It is just about using these times effectively. How are you balancing your personal life and family with the demands of your business? Right now, everything is just fine. I am enjoying the highs and lows of the business. When the demands are less strenuous, I use the free time to enjoy my life and my very loving and supportive family. Even with the height of demands, the business seems to be smooth. I love my business. Are you doing the business full-time or part time? What are the pros and cons of doing the business full time or parttime? Right now, this business is my full-time job. I worked solely on Flowers From Fatima, over the entire Summer. I will be going back to school soon, and this will become my part-time job again, as my education comes first. I would say that the greatest advantage of working full-time with my business is that there is no room for failure with the great amount of energy that I invest. However, that comes with its disadvantages. Withstanding the periods of slower business is difficult when you rely on the income from the business. What are your goals for your business? How do you see the business five years from now? As for short term goals for the business, I hope to make my first 100 sales by the end of the Summer. I think that I am well on my way. Long term, I hope to run a successful business that will create jobs for friends and family, where we would all work amongst people that we enjoy, love, and appreciate. Flowers From Fatima is still a very young company, but I have big dreams. In five years, I see Flowers From Fatima as a multimillion dollar company, with my product being sold in major retail stores. What tips can you share to other women entrepreneurs? For other women entrepreneurs, I would like to say one thing: You create your destiny. If you believe that you will succeed, success will come. A positive outlook on life will yield positive outcomes. As hard as it can be when it comes to business, try to focus on the positive elements and the achievements, rather than the elements that you don’t have. As entrepreneurs, we are working to GAIN and we must keep looking forward.

Joanna Vaiou: Achieving Success with a Business Opportunity Program By Lyve Alexis Pleshette

Joanna Vaiou started her journey to entrepreneurship by buying into a business opportunity. A dynamic and passionate young woman from Greece, Joanna researched the options available for her until she found the right business opportunity that matches her goals, desires and skills. She joined a business opportunity program as an internet marketer and started her website SuccessBusinessMindset.com in order to earning from the Web.

“A blog is much more personal than a straight single website and much more effective from a marketing point of view. It is dynamic and I have total control of it. Something that I REALLY love Did you know: What was the First long distance Connection? In 1965 using a low speed dial-up telephone line, MIT researcher Lawrence G. Roberts working with Thomas Merrill, connected the TX-2 computer in Massachusetts to the Q-32 in California. The phone lines weren't quite up to the task!

mwm ask the expert Learn from Joanna what it takes to buy into a business opportunity and how to succeed with a business opportunity program: How did you decide to be an entrepreneur? I am a Bachelor Degree holder in Economic science and since I got my degree I ventured out in my country searching for inspiration and a JOB as all people do after finishing college. The word JOB did not sound so bad in my ears then. It was something that I had to do in order to become financially independent in time. I was not aware of that I would have to love my work in order to be effective and efficient, ultimately a happy and content person with my life! I did several jobs as an employee of others that mostly did not even like as persons. I was patient enough to save enough money for me to start something mine, a business on my own. I loved the idea of having a portable business that will allow me to be free, live abroad and expand my business globally, work from my home, or my favorite restaurant, everywhere I want as long as I have internet access. Few months ago as I returned back home to Greece from my first trip abroad in New York, I researched very thoroughly online to find a suitable internet business opportunity for me and move on with my life, goals and purpose. I Love Leadership, Freedom and Power, and have absorbed an abundant way of thinking and acting. What is SuccessBusinessMindset.com? What are your objectives for your web site/blog? SuccessBusinessMindset.com is my recent blogwhere I share personal development resources as well as home business – internet marketing information and videos. My objectives for my blog are: 1.

Share the best home based business opportunity ever in personal development industry

MWM 17

What made you decide to start this blog? I started this blog because it represents who I really am, it’s a way for me to express myself and let people know who I am and what I have to offer. A blog is much more personal than a straight single website and much more effective from a marketing point of view. It is dynamic and I have total control of it. Something that I REALLY love. SuccessBusinessMindset.com is my business, my baby in other words, which I take care of every day love and feed properly. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, a writer and my own boss, I could not live with anything less than being the leader of my life. I love the internet world and the online marketing science, it is a great business that if you love it and you put into it the required focus, energy, time and effort it can change your life forever and allow you to live according to your desired lifestyle. You are an authorized representative of a business opportunity company. Can you explain this business opportunity? I joined a fast-moving business opportunity that attracts new business partners (independent business owners) every day all around the globe with standard requirements: 1) Good English Language skills and 2) Internet access. Plus the appropriate success mindset for business leadership and business development. They develop the appropriate mindset and release the unlimited potential of every human being that acknowledges that wants to change their life and are willing to work on themselves in order to become who they want to be granted the life they want to have. Along with the personal development educational aspect of this business opportunity, which is great for every individual separately for their own growth, a chance is given to create an online portable and highly compensated business by promoting the company’s products. How do you earn from this business opportunity? Through my work online people that are searching for a legitimate low cost home based internet business, find me and ask me more information about what I am doing. I walk them through listening the webinar presentation in order to understand if they are a good fit with this business opportunity, if they like the products, the compensation plan and the whole entrepreneurial mindset. If they feel they are a good fit with all the above they start with me and I guide them through the training they need in order to enter this online – internet marketing industry and learn how to become successful internet marketers and entrepreneurs.

2.

Let the whole world know about personal development, embrace the law of attraction and allow it to enter people’s lives and improve all aspects of it.

3.

Find serious entrepreneurs that will have the proper qualities to become leaders themselves and start their own legitimate personal development business and spread the word that Personal Development is the Key to Success in every business and in life.

As an authorized representative of this bizopp, I implement a Direct Sales business model where I was able to make high profit of 1000$ right after my very first sale of their products which I bought and used for my personal growth and mind development. For every new representative that starts this program through my guidance and mentoring I get paid the same amount of commission every time from my sales.

4.

Provide the best information about internet marketing latest news and constant motivation for everyone that visits my site and have an area in their life that needs improvement.

My start up cost to enter this business was 2000$ including my website cost. After that my only expenses are my marketing expenses, I have no rents, no employees, no 9-5 work, no dressing code, I work from the comfort of my home, I can live abroad and work my business anytime from anywhere.

MWM 18 For other women looking for business opportunities to promote, what do you think are the factors that they should look for — and avoid? Firstly I suggest that every woman should find a company which products will like, really like. When you love the products that you promote and the business mindset then you will definitely be successful, sooner or later. Be aware of scams and especially people who promise you the stars and present their business opportunities sounding very quick and easy deals. To become financially free you will have to work, there are no shortcuts. You will need to give your time, focus, energy, passion and a decent amount of money for your business to evolve and grow. Do your own research and due diligence before you enter any business. Meet your potential mentor and test him, see if he or she is really qualified to lead you to success. Find a reliable company with a god name that has already some decent years of success established online. It’s for the best to not experiment with ‘Test Businesses’ no matter how great some may present it to be. As far as what kind of online opportunity is better or preferable between Direct Sales or Multi-Level-Marketing Model, this is something that you will have to choose according to your personality. I prefer the direct sales model as my income is depends on me and my work and not from my down line. I wanted to grab the chance for high profits right after my first sale, so entering a multi-level-marketing company where I would have to wait long enough to make the huge down line in order to make a decent profit. In the end you will choose whatever works best for you.

What lessons can you give other women entrepreneurs? Before I close this interview I want to kindly advice all the women that are unsatisfied with their current personal or professional life: 

Pinterest Marketing for the Local Small Business By Dee Marshall

Pinterest has become one of the most popular websites used today. There are many ways in which small businesses can benefit from participating on Pinterest. Once users visit Pinterest they do not simply login and check their boards, they actively stay and engage with other users. Recent reports have indicated that an average Pinterest user spends at least 89 minutes interacting, posting and sharing with others on the site. With so many people actively participating on the site, doesn't it make sense that your small business should also be participating as well. Pinterest can be beneficial for small businesses, but only if they go about it in the right way. By following the suggested steps below, your small business should be able to successfully create and build boards that will create an audience. The first thing that your business will need to do is to create an account on the site. When you create your account you will be offered the option of linking your Pinterest account with either your Facebook or Twitter accounts. After you have successfully created an account and have become a registered user, the next thing that you should do is completely fill out your profile. This is the area where you can set your email settings, complete your About section and list your website. This information provides Pinterest with a way to interact with and connect with your other social media accounts.

Now that you have successfully created your account and updated all of your contact information you are now ready to begin creating boards. When you first get started creating boards you should create boards that represent what your brand believes in and the lifestyle that it represents. To be successful on Pinterest it is recommended that you focus more on promoting how you represent yourself in the market. To create the most effective and viewed boards it is best that you create boards that illustrate your company beliefs and culture not your products. Creating boards that are related to what you do and show people enjoying and using your product is a great way to represent your business. Many businesses have stayed away from Pinterest because they feel that their business doesn't have any pinable images. This is not true; each business has images that can be used to represent your company. Sometimes you may have to think outside the box to come up with content that you can pin on the site. This may include infographics, book covers, images of customers using your product and much more. Carefully look at your website and you will be flooded with ideas that you can use to promote your business on Pinterest. There truly is no limit as to how you can use Pinterest to help your small business grow. The important thing to keep in mind when choosing images is to choose ones that show how your product can be enjoyed and used by consumers. This will go a long way in getting your boards shared and viewed by other users.

3 Things To Do Before You Submit To Article Directories To Avoid Getting Rejected By Jinger Jarrett

I love article marketing. The reason is that it is the one marketing technique that has brought me the most traffic and sales, as well as help me build my business. If you want more traffic and sales to your business, build your expertise in front of your audience, and create marketing machines for your business, then article marketing is the best way to do it. However, there are a lot of pitfalls to using this technique to market your business. Many who use it don't use it the right way, and because of it, they don't get the results they want. Use these three guidelines to save yourself a lot of time and frustration in marketing: 1. Follow the guidelines for each site. This is one of the biggest problems I have as an article directory owner. I get articles all the time that I have to reject because the writers don't read my guidelines and submit what I want. What's funny about this is that the guidelines are integrated into the submission form. I've made it as dummy proof as possible, and I still get articles that are useless. Article marketing has really changed and many sites these days only accept unique articles. So, you will need to know the rules of the site before submitting. Then when you submit your article you will give the article directory owners what they want. Your articles will get accepted faster.

2. Proof your article, check your links, and make sure they are appropriate. Although a few typos won't necessarily get your articles rejected, it can affect the impression that both your article readers and article directory owners have of you. You want to make sure that your article is as error free as possible. If your links are broken, you can expect that your article will be rejected. Many sites have link checkers, and if your links are broken the site owner will likely not only reject your article, but they may delete any articles you may already have in the directory. Since your articles are passive promotional machines, you don't want this to happen. 3. Understand the reasons for writing articles and make the most of it. Are you writing articles simply to build backlinks? If so, then you're wasting your time. Building backlinks as the primary reason for writing articles will help you in the search engines, but search engines don't buy from you. People do. You can have tons of backlinks from your articles, but if none of your visitors read your articles, then they won't click through your links to sign up for your lists or buy your products. In other words, you have wasted your time writing articles that won't help you. Write for your readers. If you want to get more traffic and sales from your articles and turn them into marketing powerhouses, follow the rules. Write good content that readers want to read, and you'll drive traffic to your business for years to come.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where natural disasters are a reality. Blizzards, tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes, torrential rains, tsunamis, floods. The list is intimidating. Preparedness remains about our only defense in many situations. Those living in the line of such disasters have become accustomed to preparing themselves with things like food, water and sandbags. Yet our technology keeps us connected to the world. Why sacrifice contact with the outside world when life gets turned upside down by mother nature? Reputation Changer - When Is It Time to Call A Reputation Defender? By Josh A. Thorren

Keeping your name positive, protected and well managed online is not an easy task. To protect their name, a lot of people opt for online reputation management firms. However, a lot of other steps exist to take matters into your very own hands. Here are some of the best strategies in protecting your reputation. Follow these reputation changer steps to begin making positive changes in your online reputation now. Get your brand name under control. Your competitors would love to squat onto sites that haven't been registered. Even more so, they might create defamatory or fake accounts making use of your actual name. A lot of new laws that protect against these practices are beginning to emerge, but making the changes frequently takes a long time and is also a very daunting process.

Make it a point to fully comprehend and manage your social media privacy. You have to know how to remove negative reviews, feedback, comments, etc.

The best thing you could do is to get your brand name under control across multiple sites by registering your name and related information across various websites. This may include social networking sites, other websites and more. You must be aware about which social media sites are frequently used and are also currently hot. Use your social media connections. Plenty of companies out there today do not completely understand social media. Direct interaction beyond promotional posts is how social media defines itself. Utilize these sites as mediums to interact directly with your customers. Resolve a potentially negative scenario directly and professionally, if there are any. Doing so will add real value to both your name and brand.

Monitor your privacy online. Promoting, discussing and boosting your brand's image are what a social media site is great for. But do you have any idea about how privacy works in sharing for sites such as these? Managing your privacy online has earned somewhat of a bad name in the recent years. However, the good news is that it's only served to help people, businesses as well as organizations protect their privacy even more. Make it a point to fully comprehend and manage your social media privacy. You have to know how to remove negative reviews, feedback, comments, etc. A preventive measure such as this one grows increasingly more important each day. Be aware of any changes, new posts, etc. Do you realize that social media isn't actually a "once and you are done" phenomenon? Neglected or under-posted accounts could prove extremely dangerous for your image. You need to be absolutely active in interacting, posting and responding to your customers, but you also need to be aware of new posts, responses as well as other various information. A targeted reputation management account, in the end, can accomplish all of these for you and more. However, that doesn't necessarily mean you are actually off the hook in taking the important reputation defender steps outlined above. You may need to find a reputation management specialist that will help you place control back into the palm of your hands.

Registry cleaners are a necessary tool for all PC users, and finding a RegCleaner download can get users the program they need to keep their registry in good shape. RegCleaner is easy to use, effective, and one of the best registry cleaning programs available.

The registry is a vital component of all Windows PCs, since it is the way that a PC is able to chronicle all of the changes made to it. This includes any changes, reconfigurations, software installations, and software removal. By its very nature, it’s integral to how a PC works. Unfortunately, because few users end up never adding or deleting anything from their PC, this means that the registry can eventually become a minefield of outdated information, inaccuracies, and errors. Eventually, PCs will become slower, and more prone to problems like conflicts, freezing, crashing, and other issues. http://regeditcleaners.com/

3 Steps to Your Next Profitable Offer .

By Alicia Forest Do you get stuck when trying to figure out what to offer to your market next? Do you wonder if they'll buy what you put together for them? Just follow these three steps to easily create your next successful offer: Step 1: Know what your market WANTS Be really clear on your market, what their problem is, and what your solution to that problem is. And more importantly, don't make the mistake of creating something that you think your market needs before you find out if it's something they want. How do you find out what they want? Ask them! Step 2: Fill in the holes in your HourGlass In the business model I designed and teach, there are different offers at different price points. When deciding what to offer next, take a look at your HourGlass and see where your next gap is and then fill it. So, if you have a Free Taste and nothing in the less than $50 range at the first level of the Hourglass, that's the first gap you'll want to fill. One way you can fill this gap is to take one of your larger offerings and modulize it to fill in a lower level of your HourGlass. Advanced TIP: if you have a $50 product and it's selling really well, that's when you want to start creating something at the next level of the HourGlass to offer, which would be at a higher price point.

Step 3: Create the Offer Once you have identified the hole to fill you can start creating your next product, program or service. Knowing what level you're creating your product for will inform the end product. And you'll want to make sure your time and effort equals the price point. Here are some examples to get you started. Know that your market may demand higher (or lower, but not much) price points: Level 1: $50 ebook CD print book journal/day planners teleseminar Level 2: $200 teleseminars - single or series more comprehensive emanuals short group coaching programs two-part-multi-media module live workshops or seminars And don't forget - create a product that you actually enjoy creating! How you've decided to package your product will determine your delivery system. This is the path to getting your product into the hands of your buyer. Some systems only do one thing, but most overlap, so it makes sense to think about your bigger vision for your business as it grows and make the investment in some of the systems that do several things if you can.

Be really clear on your market, what their problem is, and what your solution to that problem is.

C.C. CHAPMAN ON SEO, SEARCH PLUS, AND DOING THE UNEXPECTED By Laura Crest About C.C. Chapman C.C. Chapman is a digital lifestyle writer and the co-author of the best selling book Content Rules. He is the founder of Digital Dads, the host of Passion Hit TV, and the voice behind Managing the Gray. C.C. is a graduate of Bentley University and makes his home with his family in the woods outside of Boston. You are welcome to connect with C.C. Chapman on Twitter @cc_chapman and on Google Plus.

“I now make a living speaking, writing and consulting. It is a lot of hard work and long hours, but I’ve never been happier.”

-Stephen Colbert

Today we’re delighted to share our interview with C.C. Chapman. Most likely you recognize him as the co-author (with Ann Handley) of Content Rules, but once upon a time he was a corporate employee who broke out on his own…and no, you actually don’t know the rest! Here, C.C. shares his story as well as his thoughts on SEO, content sharing and creation, Google’s Search Plus, and doing the unexpected… Many folks who are entering the SEO copywriting and content marketing field would appreciate hearing your story about making the leap from your corporate job to a “recession-proof” self-employed career. Would you share some of your story about your transition? This could take a while if I went into all the details, so I’ll give a high-level overview. I had started a successful marketing agency called The Advance Guard with a close friend. After two years of doing really fun work for a variety of clients, we were acquired byCampfire.

SEO is important, but it only gets you so far. If the content you create isn’t engaging enough to keep someone’s attention and fill them with an urge to share it with their community, then I don’t think you are being as successful as you can be.

You stated during your BlogWorld presentation that: “…even with the coolest, most engaging content in the world, it will fail if you don’t use manners and smart business skills to share it with others.” What smart business skills and manners would you suggest for sharing content? Is there a set of guidelines that you follow when sharing yours?

After being my own boss, the idea of working for someone else wore on me and I moved on after a while. I was in the process of writing Content Rules and decided it would be the perfect time to go out on my own so that I could focus on promoting the book.

Since you asked about sharing, the main thing to remember is to always give credit to the source.

With years of experience under my belt, I can now work with agencies and brands to help them come up with and execute cutting-edge marketing campaigns.

The audience reading this is SEO professionals, so they all know the importance of inbound links: so give them out accordingly when sharing other’s content.

I now make a living speaking, writing and consulting. It is a lot of hard work and long hours, but I’ve never been happier.

If you are sharing a photo then say who the photographer is and link to their site. Using a quote from another person’s post, give them credit and link to their name.

In your opinion, where does SEO fit into the bigger content marketing/strategy picture? It is something to think about, but it should never lead the content creation process.

Your book, Content Rules, emphasizes the fact that content is king. What other take-aways would you suggest for those just entering the SEO copywriting and content marketing world? I have a feeling your audience might not appreciate this, but I think the best advice I can give them from the book is that you can’t only think about SEO when writing a blog post or creating any other content that you hope will perform well. SEO is important, but it only gets you so far. If the content you create isn’t engaging enough to keep someone’s attention and fill them with an urge to share it with their community, then I don’t think you are being as successful as you can be. Keywords and a catchy headline might help bring in the traffic, but what is going to keep them coming back? One of our rules is “Do Something Unexpected” and I’d encourage anyone writing copy to never forget this one. It doesn’t mean to be inappropriate, but something that the audience you are writing for might not expect. Something to grab their attention and make what you are writing stand out from all the other posts that will cross in front of their eyes that day.

You should know the proper keywords. You always want a solid headline. Those are basics for good writing online. But, if you are slamming in keywords just for the sake of getting more Google juice and the reader can tell that, then you are going to lose their attention. Much speculation and opinion are spinning around Google’s Search Plus Your World (Search Plus). What are your thoughts about it? How do you see Search Plus affecting content marketing? I love it. It makes it more important than ever to create content that gets shared, because now being the first result on a Google Page is not the only important thing. If no one else in my social graph has shared your post, I might never see it. What I always tell my clients is to not focus on your immediate audience. By that I mean that the people already subscribed and reading your content on a daily basis are already paying attention and you’ve got them. But, what are you going to create to get them to share out to their networks and turn those people into regular subscribers? You’ve already got your community, but you want their communities. Search Plus makes this critical because as people search on topics and they see no one they know talking about or sharing it, they may ignore the organic results.

How to Start an Online Business With Information Marketing By Kay Franklin

In this article I am going to go through the steps needed to start your own online business with information marketing. Information marketing is an ideal model to use for an online business because the whole reason the Internet was invented was for the sharing of information! There are just 8 steps that I follow to create an information marketing business online. The steps are the same for any niche that you are thinking of starting a business in.

Step 4 - Creating A website In order to sell your product you need some kind of platform to sell it from. For an online business this will be a website! You will need to purchase a domain name and somewhere to host your website on. Step 5 - Getting Traffic To Your Offer

Step 1 - Deciding Your Niche First of all you need to decide what topic or niche your business will be about. The two most important things to bear in mind is that whatever niche you decide upon you must make sure that there are buyers and that the information is in demand! For your business to be profitable you need to have a large number of people that actually want information in that niche and also customers that are willing to spend money in order to have that information.

You now have a great product and will need to drive traffic to your offer on your webpage. Writing articles and posting helpful comments on related forums is a great and free way to start getting visibility. It is best to drive traffic to a squeeze page so that you can begin to build a list of subscribers. Step 6 - Building A Relationship With Your List

If you already have knowledge in the niche or are interested in it then this will help.

Once you have subscribers you need to write emails that will build trust and increase your credibility. Offer value and ask for feedback when ever possible. Always be yourself.

Step 2 - Finding Out What Information Your Market Wants

Step 7 - Creating A Product Funnel

You need to then find out exactly what information people are searching for in this niche. The best way to find this out is to visit the types of places that people interested in this niche are hanging out on the Internet.

Once you have feedback from your subscribers you will understand more about their needs and can then begin to create more products that solve those issues. This is an on going process so that you create multiple products to offer your subscribers on autopilot.

For example, relevant forums, networking sites and blogs are a good place to start.

Step 8 - Scaling Up Your Business

Step 3 - Creating Your Information Product When you have a good idea of the kind of questions that people are searching for answers on then you will then be able to create your own information product answering those questions.

To grow your business you can begin to create membership sites and coaching programs. You also need to test and track your results so that you can optimise your efficiency and results.

Once you have subscribers you need to write emails that will build trust and increase your credibility. Offer value and ask for feedback when ever possible. Always be yourself.

Quotable: “There's a statistical theory that if you gave a million monkeys typewriters and set them to work, they'd eventually come up with the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Internet, we now know this isn't true.” ~Ian Hart

The 4 Ways People Use Your Website and What You Should Do About It By Charles Ogwyn I know some people who hate asking for directions and will avoid it until they have exhausted all other alternatives. Finally, embarrassed and forced to admit to themselves that they can't find their way, they stop for directions. At the other end of the spectrum are those who ask for directions before they even start driving. Regardless of which category you most identify with, both groups have one thing in common - no one likes the feeling that comes with being lost or looking for something and not finding it. The same holds true online. When people can't find what they're looking for on one website, they go looking for it elsewhere. Let's take a look at the four ways that people seek information on websites and how you can best help them find what they are looking for. Sometimes the people coming to your website know exactly what they are looking for and exactly what it is called. A typical example of this is when a person goes online to buy toner for their laser printer. They know exactly what the toner cartridge model number is or they know exactly what printer model they need the toner cartridge to fit. Known-item search People on a search for a known-item are best served with a strong hierarchical navigation layout that is intuitive to use as well as a website search feature. This is really about enabling this kind of shopper to find what they are looking for without slowing them down.

Re-finding is what happens when a person comes to your website looking to locate something that they previously found. Yes, they could have favorited or bookmarked it, but you can't count on that. Instead, you've got to help them find what they're looking for. Exploratory seeking

Don't know what I need to know This situation happens when a person knows that they need something, but doesn't yet know enough about the subject to pick the right solution. For example if a person decides to buy a digital camera, they may decide that they first need to find out what megapixels are, what optical zoom is, and what flash memory is, before they can decide exactly which camera will be the best fit for their situation. The person is looking for a solution (camera) but discover that they really need to look for other information first. People who are in this situation are best served with the same website navigation methods as the exploratory seeking group. Ensuring that you provide rich information about the products on your website as well as educating shoppers about making the best selection is essential for success with this group. Re-finding Re-finding is what happens when a person comes to your website looking to locate something that they previously found. Yes, they could have favorited or bookmarked it, but you can't count on that. Instead, you've got to help them find what they're looking for.

This situation is typical when a person is aware of a need, but aren't yet certain what the solution will be. For example, someone is looking for a desktop scanner. They know they need a scanner. They want one with a fairly small footprint, but they aren't sure which brand or which model will be the best solution for them.

If they remember exactly what it was called, the website's search feature is often used. Otherwise, they'll have to depend on your website's navigation. This includes both the hierarchical navigation (think category, sub-category, product) as well as associative navigation (think similar to / related to) choices that are usually displayed at the product page level. An additional tool that you can use to help people in their quest to re-find something is to show them what they've recently / previously looked at on your website.

In this situation, the best way to help them find the solution on your website, instead of them going elsewhere, is to make sure you have two different kinds of navigation in place. Firstly, you'll need a good hierarchical navigation model (think: category, sub-category, product) so that they can drill down and see what options are available. Category pages are a good example of this type of navigation in use on ecommerce sites. Secondly, you'll need a good associative navigation structure in place. Often this takes the form of informing people about similar or related items.

For most websites, really helping the people who are coming to your site is about getting out of their way. It is about making it easy for them to accomplish what they set out to accomplish. The folks visiting your website fit into all four categories above. When they come, will they find what they are looking for? They will if your website was designed according to strong website usability (UX) principles. Take a fresh look at your website and see what needs to be tightened up with regard to your website usability so that those coming to your site will find what they're looking for - every time.

BE SMART AND SUCCESSFUL ONLINE By Robin Thomas Olley It is common knowledge that to be successful, man must work hard. Hard work ensures business success. However, for online entrepreneurship and marketing, this may not be the case. Although hard work can be a stepping stone to success, it isn't the only factor. For online businesses, it is important to work hard, be determined and optimistic, as well as work smart in order for the business, lifestyle, and income to be successful. For online marketers and entrepreneurs, working smart is also important to be successful. When a person works smart, he is able to optimize his work hours so that unimportant and irrelevant tasks are outsourced or eliminated. To be successful online, a person must attain a certain level of working smart. When one works smart, he sets a goal at the very beginning so that every activity he does is for the attainment of that goal. Today, a lot of simple tasks can be automated or outsourced thereby freeing the online marketer and businessperson of uninteresting and boring activities. The focus is on the big picture and how to generate profitable returns. For each activity, a smart worker is able to understand and research the tasks at hand so that it will take less time to complete them. Before you put up an online business, you must know how to innovate the business idea. A lot of obstacles and problems may come but if you're focused on your goal, you'll be able to hurdle each problem and obstacle. You must realize your online business' purpose so that you know how to run it. A business without a purpose won't get you anywhere you want your business to go.

You must realize your online business' purpose so that you know how to run it. A business without a purpose won't get you anywhere you want your business to go.

Market research is also important to online success. A lot of experts suggest that when you put up a business, you have to ensure that you're interested in it. However, interest is never enough. When you have pinpointed a business you're interested in, you have to make a research on it. This way, you'll be able to realize if your planned business has a potential of being successful. When you put up an online business, you have to realize that success doesn't happen overnight. You must have consistency of purpose and ensure that tasks are done correctly and repeatedly. Focus is also needed when you want to be smart about your online business. Although there may be different hurdles that you have to face, you must realize that you must keep an eye on your goal so that you don't make decisions you'll regret later on. Your online business will be successful if you continuously expand your network. Colleagues and friends can be a great help in making your business grow. Opportunities will come if you continuously search for new people to network with. Marketing is also important in the success of your online business. You have to ensure that you follow your business's marketing plan so that you are not kept off-tangent from your goal. Lastly, you must be a risk taker when you put up an online business. Your success is within reach if you know how to take risks.

Need Help? Find an Internet Marketing Pro for One on One Coaching By Kata Santek Think back to your childhood... how did you learn to do something new? Chances are you learned all the basics of life - reading, writing, arithmetic and more - in school. Maybe you played soccer or guitar; it's a good bet you had a coach for that. Now that you're an adult, do you think you can learn new things - like setting up an internet marketing website - simply by teaching yourself? You probably can, but is that the most efficient or effective method? If you've never considered one-on-one coaching from an internet marketing professional, here are five reasons why you should change your mind. 1. How Much Time Do You Have? Anytime you need to learn something new, there's what we refer to as "the learning curve". That means it's going to take some time before you figure it all out. It could take lots of time. How many extra hours per day do you have to invest? If you're like most people, it's not all that much. So why not invest a few bucks, instead, and find a coach who can give you the exact training you need, no learning curve required? 2. Why Reinvent the Wheel? When you are just getting started on internet marketing, you'll doubtless go through a lot of trial and error in order to get it right. Why put yourself through that torture? There's no need to reinvent the wheel if you simply trust someone else to tell you the right and the wrong way to do things, based on his or her prior experience.

Whatever the case may be, a good coach can help you get past those stumbling blocks keeping you from success. When you need an extra push to accomplish your goals, a coach will do just that. 3. Benefit From an Outsider's Opinion So... you've got your brand spanking new website all set up and ready to go. But is it designed with your target market in mind? Does it do a good job of capturing visitor data? Is it optimized for search engines? An internet marketing coach, much like a golfing instructor who watches your swing to correct it, can take a look and give you immediate pointers, then focus on those areas in which your skills are lacking. 4. Get Insider Tips Anyone who has been doing internet marketing for some time undoubtedly knows all the little tips and tricks for saving time and maximizing effort. Do you really want to figure all that out by yourself? Are you willing to face frustration, waste time and do things the hard way? Then don't bother looking for a coach. Happy hunting! 5. Inspiration and Motivation Many times we have some great ideas but we hesitate to go forward with them due to fear of failure. Then again, it might be that we don't really have enough confidence in ourselves or our ideas. Whatever the case may be, a good coach can help you get past those stumbling blocks keeping you from success. When you need an extra push to accomplish your goals, a coach will do just that.

HEATHER MURPHY MONTEITH: DANCING TO SUCCESS By Isabel Isidro

Heather Murphy Monteith has been looking for a safe, fun, healthy and non commercial activity for her toddler son, Max. A dancer and choreographer, she decided to organize a dance party that both kids and adults can enjoy. With an A- List DJ, bubble machines for dance floor fun, hula hoops, interactive toys and chill out rooms with books and pillows — and most importantly, dance and disco tracks — she set up an afternoon dance party for both little kids and their parents. Baby Loves Disco was born.

“Starting was easy… we were running on inspiration and it was all a labor of love. Now it is STILL a labor of love but the harder stuff has come later, with expansion, branding, logistics and management….”

Today, Baby Loves Disco is a successful event held in venues and clubs across the country and internationally in UK, Tel Aviv and Japan. We interviewed Heather Murphy Monteith, founder of Baby Loves Disco, about her fast-growing national network of monthly afternoon dance parties for kids. How did you decide to start Baby Loves Disco? Baby Loves Disco (BLD) is an accidental business. After having my son, Max (now almost 6) I was amazed at how little resonance there was for the WHOLE family at many of the typical outings and activities. After leaving the Zoo with Max crying for a blue water ice (we do not eat blue things, except for blueberries) I threatened my mama’s group to have a dance party in my living room, where we could al have fun, together and not have to say “no” to unhealthy snacks and gift shop trappings. My living room was not quite large enough. So I approached Tony Schiro at FLUID Nightclub here in Philly to allow me to do an afternoon dance party during his “down” hours from 2-5 on a weekend. After he agreed, I crossed my fingers that 35 folks would come and help me offset the costs, putting out a few homemade posters in the playgrounds and cafes.. and alas, we

Nope, my partner Andy and i have been flying by the seat of our pants, working so hard and learning a lot.

By Feb 2005, this party was a monthly event and soon after I met my current partner, Andy Blackman Hurwitz (a dad to three

As we expanded we sunk @ 22K of personal funds into the business. This year we took on our very first angel investors.

makes it distinct from other kid-focused activities? BLD is a family event as provides an atmosphere for families (with kids 6 months – 7 years) to enjoy music and dance, together.. not dumbed down kid stuff. Just real music (clean of course) spun by a real, A-List DJ that the whole family can move and groove to. We make sure the clubs are triple cleaned, the sound and lights are at safe levels and we provide healthy snacks (no sugar bombs) as well as fun interactive such as simple toys, books, dance scarves, egg shakers, and of course, bubble machines!

We did not finance the start up. But years later it was difficult to secure appropriate investment. How big is the business now, revenue-wise? 700K for Baby Loves Disco. Including parent company Baby Loves Music, 1 million. Baby Loves Disco is now available in 27 cities and 4 international locations.

How can an interested party bring Baby Loves Disco to their area? How does the sponsorship works? We are still a mom and pop company. Prospective hosts should e-mail us if they are interested in bringing BLD to their town. Sponsorship inquiries should be directed to my partner, Andy. Baby Loves Disco charges tickets for attendance and sells Baby Loves Disco items. In addition, what are the other revenue sources of the business? Well, what we do is VERY expensive. Between liability insurance, venue and talent fees as well as our consultants, so we basically just break even right now doing these events. We do have income from national sponsors, but no other money is generated in any other ways, right now. We are currently working on merchandising and advertising plans as we speak! How are you marketing Baby Loves Disco? Flyers, Posters, word of mouth, viral marketing, and through exchanges and partnerships with like minded family relevant business. local in each city as well as online.

What are the toughest challenges of running Baby Loves Disco? Balancing a never ending and sometimes stressful to-do list for BLD, while still working as a performer (modern dancer, and remaining an engaged and fully present parent to my 2 children and maintaining a happy and healthy relationship with my husband, friends and family! It is hard!! What do you think are the factors that make Baby Loves Disco so successful? I think parents are interested in sharing their culture in a safe, fun way WITH their kids.. and disco is fun! Also, folks are trying to do more physical activities with their kids and BLD is all about dancing and funneling that kid energy into a productive effort. Also, we welcome all parts of the family: from the babysitter to the grandparents and there is something for ALL to enjoy. You partnered with Andy Hurwitz in 2005. How do you divide the work? What are the main challenges of having a business partner and how do you make it work? Andy is more of the “big picture” person and my concerns are mostly with overseeing all aspects of BLD. We make it work via a trillion e-mails, ichat and meetings at our favorite tea house. How are you balancing a successful business, family and other interests? As I said above, it hard and I’m still trying to figure it all out. It’s a constant issue for me and I continually reflect on what needs to change to increase my dedication to my main priorities: family and maintaining my art! What are your plans in the next 5 years for Baby Loves Disco? Are you thinking of franchising the business? I hope to either sell the business at some point or at least get to the point where I am not running it! Franchising has been discussed but we have no current plans! Do you have any lessons you wish to share to other entrepreneurs? Well, If I had to do it all over again, I’d just wait until the kids were both in school. Other than that, I think doing more formal business planning in the beginning would have assisted us greatly — as we are now doing so much cleaning up in that regard!
