What is the best way to design a website so that someone with no html skills can update and edit it? I usually use Dreamweaver for web design, but it needs to be more simple than that. A client wants to be able to make small changes and add info to the site himself in the future. Any suggestions for software or an online service that would give me design freedom and control, yet be easy for him to edit? It would be best if it is cheap or free and it has to be able to run on a mac and a pc. Thanks in advance!. - Ken. For this type of setup, you really can’t go past Wordpress. You setup wordpress, do the initial design for your client and then give them the information to access the backend, and show them how to create pages and posts.. -Ed.

Over half of all the downloading and uploading online is file sharing that is often considered illegal. Another rising portion of the overall bandwidth that will likely get bigger and bigger is from streaming video services such as Netflix.

mwm news Consumers Prefer to Do Business With Social Brands A new study by social curation firm Mass Relevance has found that 59 percent of consumers are more likely to trust brands that integrate with social media. Another 60 percent of those surveyed reported that they are more likely to share a brand's message if the brand has integrated social media into their digital properties. Almost two-thirds of respondents also reported that they have made purchases based on social media content. "This study proves that people want to engage with a 'social brand' and shows how brands can begin to build social experiences that drive interaction and sales," said Sam Decker, founder and chief executive of Mass Relevance. "Through the case studies and data shared in this report, we can see how brands are integrating social experiences into their owned media assets to connect with customers in an entirely new, interactive and engaging way." According to the study, 56 percent of those surveyed said they were more likely to encourage friends to try a product from a company that integrated social media into their digital properties. Another 75 percent of those surveyed said they are already talking about brands on social media channels. In the 18-34 ages demographic, that number goes up to 91 percent, according to Mass Relevance's study.

77% of Brands Aren't Using Online Video Advertising A new study from Kantar Media has found that 77 percent of brands are using national TV advertising exclusively. According to the study, only 23 percent of the brands surveyed were using online video. About 12 percent of brands reported that they were using both online video and national TV advertising. While another 11 percent said they were using online video advertising only. Kantar Media says that the restaurant and automotive industries were the most likely to use both advertising video platforms in the month of October. According to the study, 43 percent of the restaurant industry was using both online and national TV video ads. Kantar Media also found that 30 percent of automotive firms were using the two-platform video advertising method. The study reported that Internet communications and content companies were the most likely to use an online-only method for video advertising. Kantar says that 39 percent of Internet content and communications companies are using online video advertising exclusively. Resort and travel companies were the second most likely industry to use an online-only video advertising strategy. According to the study, 28 percent of resort and travel companies were using an online-only method for video advertising. The reports of companies moving to online video advertising exclusively come as consumers continue to view more online video. According to a recent study from comScore, 11 billion online video ads were seen in October.

Almost 46 percent of consumers who responded to the survey said that they prefer to do business with companies that use social media. In the 18-34 ages demographic that number jumps to 67 percent.

ComScore reported last November that over 88 percent of online users watched at least one online video in October. According to the firm's report, 22 percent of online video seen during the month were ads.

Mass Relevance also found that 63 percent of respondents were more likely to buy new products and try new services if they had read positive social media comments about them.

Another report from Adap.TV found that national television advertising budgets were being reduced in an effort to bring more funding to the online ad space. According to Adap.TV's report 34 percent of advertisers surveyed were reducing broadcast advertising budgets to make room for online video ad spending.

The study's figures come from Mass Relevance's "Why Audiences Hunger for Social Integration" study. Mass Relevance is a social curation and integration company based in Austin, TX. The company has worked with firms like Samsung, Ford, Cisco, and Target.

Kantar Media came up with its statistics by surveying more than 4,100 brands' advertisements. The study was commissioned in the lead-up to the firm's release of its new Online Video Measurement service.

KEYWORD SEARCH STRATEGY: IT'S CRITICAL TO ANY ONLINE MARKETING CAMPAIGN By: DeeDee Coleman

Ah, keyword search strategy, the basis of every single successful website existing today.

Now the second example is a very targeted keyword phrase. Remember you keyword search strategy is to find the most targeted keywords with the least amount of competition.

Alright, I know that statement sounds rather extreme but let's check it out. It's a fact, for marketers who put little to no research into the keywords they choose, or if they simply don't understand the importance of keywords to their marketing campaign and SEO efforts, then chances are they are not marketing to their target audience. If you aren't marketing to your target audience, then you aren't going to get targeted traffic. If you don't get targeted traffic to your site then you will not make any sales.

So often we get caught up in the numbers and the competition that we forget that goal is to target a specific audience. Sure you may eventually get some traffic targeting the phrase "building backyard sheds" but most of those who visit your site will not find what they are looking for. Also the keyword is so vague it will take quite a while before people can even find your site.

Stop sweating and let me explain why keyword search strategy is so important. Let's say 6 months ago you launched a website on how to build a backyard shed. You have great original content on your site along with great photos that shows how to build different back yard sheds. The main keywords you've picked are "backyard sheds" and "building backyard sheds". You have written tons of articles, built your backlinks and shared all over the social networking sites, yet your site still doesn't rank well in the search engines and you aren't getting a good amount of daily hits on your site. What happened? The problem is the keywords. They are not specific enough and they have a huge amount of competition. If there are already 160,000,000 websites competing for these keywords, it is going to take you over a year to begin ranking near the top for those specific phrases. Not only is the competition too high for these keywords, but phrases aren't specific enough. No matter how detailed the information on your site is, it isn't going to show how to make all types of backyard sheds. What specific type of shed do you have blueprints for? Is it a specific make, a specific size, a specific shape or made with a specific material? Getting more specific can change your keyword from "building backyard sheds" to "how to build a Panama 471 Shed".

You will also want to remember that while you do want to build your brand online, your brand or company name is not what people are looking for. What you can offer as a solution to a problem they have is what they are looking for.

The keyword search strategy you need to go by is determining what phrases people are going to use when searching for your products or services that can solve their problems.

The keyword search strategy you need to go by is determining what phrases people are going to use when searching for your products or services that can solve their problems. They will search for "perfect posture" or "slim waist" not "Extreme Putter" or "Becky's Weight Loss CafĂŠ". They don't even know that these two businesses exist (they don't as far as I know I just made them up as an example). So while it can be very tempting to just breeze through the keyword selection processes of internet marketing, I highly suggest you slow down and spend some time focusing on finding the best keywords for your niche. Having the right keyword search strategy can make or break your online business. Good luck and happy keyword hunting!

ELIZABETH BLOCH: Inventing an Anti-Wrinkle Sleep Product by Lyve Alexis Pleshette

Elizabeth Bloch knows about this extrinsic aging problem first-hand. As a young child growing up in Mumbai, India, she was told that sleeping on one’s side was the best position for restful sleep. Her culture considered sleeping on one’s back to be the source of harsh nightmares. After years of heeding this Indian myth and sleeping on her side, nightmares were not a major cause for alarm for Bloch; sleep wrinkles were. When she was young, her facial creases or “morning face” would disappear in minutes. In her 40s, Bloch noticed that the sleep wrinkles were no longer bouncing back completely and were etched into her delicate facial skin. When expensive moisturizers and eye creams proved futile, Bloch took matters into her own hands. She eventually developed the Mumbani(TM) Fresh Face to protect the skin and avoid developing wrinkles while sleeping. The name is a play on the inventor’s native homeland.

Quotable: Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant. ~Mitchell Kapor

MWM 13 We talked with Elizabeth Bloch about her anti-wrinkle sleeping product, and the challenges she faced when starting the business: What is the Mumbani™ Fresh Face product? Can you describe what it is used for? The Mumbani™ Fresh Face pillow is an anti-aging, anti-wrinkle sleep product that helps women and men of all ages lose that bothersome “morning face” while promoting healthier, smoother skin! “Morning Face” (a term I coined) can be best described as the sleep wrinkled face with lines and creases seen more notably when we wake up in the morning. They are caused by sleeping on our sides and stomach with our face constantly pressed against the pillow or bed surface. What inspired you to create the Mumbani™ Fresh Face product? What need do you see in the market for the product? I developed Mumbani™ Fresh Face in 2008 after experiencing deep lines, wrinkles and creases caused from sleeping on my side for hours and hours every night, for over 40 years – I called it “morning face”. When I was young, my facial creases or “morning face” would disappear in minutes. In my 40s I noticed that the sleep wrinkles were no longer bouncing back completely and were etched into my facial skin. When expensive moisturizers and eye creams proved futile, I took matters into my own hands. I eventually developed the Mumbani™ Fresh Face.

What has been the customer feedback so far? Customers are thrilled with the product and the visible results. Not only are our customers preventing new sleep wrinkles but the old ones are becoming smoother and therefore, their facial skin looks years younger. Sleepers like me are also experiencing improved breathing and better rest as the Mumbani™ lifts the head and opens breathing passages. Additionally, Mumbani™ users say they feel refreshed and well rested in the mornings. Some customers are reporting less acne breakouts since their facial skin is no longer rubbing against their pillow or bed surface. Others are saying that since the Mumbani™ helps their face float rather than be pressed against the pillow it has alleviated their jaw and ear pain “I used to get sleep wrinkles and ear pain from sleeping on my side. But now that I use the Mumbani™ I no longer have hurting ears in the morning and I wake up well rested!” expressed Kim Scena from Newark, DE

Perseverance is my biggest lesson. While we hear about overnight success stories, we don’t always hear about the struggles on the path to getting to that overnight success.

What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced when starting this business? Time – I need ten more hours in a day, and crash course in business management is really what would have been most helpful to me in the early stages of starting my business. I have been an educator all of my adult life. Working a full time demanding job as an educator, maintaining a well balanced family life, and building a start up business from the foundation up all at the same time have been some of my biggest challenges. The product is patent pending. What tips can you give other entrepreneurs who are thinking of patenting their products? First, develop the total concept so it’s clear in your head and do not share it with anyone; it would not be fair to ask even family and friends to keep your idea a secret. Second, research if the product you are thinking of exists in the market before you spend time and energy working on an already patented idea/product. Third, make a prototype and test it out while keeping a log and making adjustments. Finally, when you are satisfied with the results seek a patent attorney. This is not an area to cut costs and it is the best way to proceed with a serious business. Where can customers get the Mumbani™ Fresh Face product? Currently Mumbani™ Fresh Face can be purchased online at www.Mumbani.com , Marcus John Salon in Havertown, PA, and coming soon on one of the home shopping channels. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far as an entrepreneur? Perseverance, ambition, drive and determination can make any dream come true. Perseverance is my biggest lesson. While we hear about overnight success stories, we don’t always hear about the struggles on the path to getting to that overnight success. Likewise, hard work, quality product and great customer service is increasingly empowering my business.

MWM 14 How has the economic downturn affected your business? What strategies are you using to survive these tough economic times? Sales have actually been steadily rising; the fact that the Mumbani™ Fresh Face is very costeffective has really gotten people’s attention. Global Industry Analysts, Inc. anticipates expenditures in the U.S. market for anti-aging products that enhance appearance to be more than $5 billion by 2015. Mumbani™ is the right product at the right time. It proves to be a cost-effective tool in preventing and smoothing out existing sleep wrinkles, a cause of deepening facial wrinkles. How are you marketing your business? Do you use social media such as Facebook and/or Twitter? Our recent press releases have generated a buzz with newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations as well as on the internet with numerous new blogs writing about Mumbani™ every week. We are on Facebook and Twitter but have not been using it as much as we should. What are the challenges of working and running a business from home? I am fortunate enough to have a larger home so I can use the entire lower level as my office and inventory storage space. The challenge in a growing home-based business is keeping business hours. Exceptional customer service is a top priority for me. So I check every email as soon as my cell phone alerts me I have new mail, fill orders as soon as they come in and answer every phone call etc. even long after normal business hours.

How are you balancing your personal life and family with the demands of your business? Family has always been the single most important thing in my life. My personal life is my family and very few close friends. I was born into a very loving and close nit middle class family in India. When I was five years old my father died unexpectedly, which left my mom struggling to raise three little girls on her own. Soon thereafter we were poor. Yet I had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. In my late teens I took my ideas to relatives for funding but was unsuccessful. In college I discovered the world of teaching which I also loved and chose as my path and calling until recently. As my business started growing I knew I had to make some tough choices and step away from my well paid job. I work hard and am on my computer almost the entire time that my daughter is at school. I am glad to be home when she comes home from school and spend time talking about her day and anything else that is on our minds. I do miss the parents and children that I was used to being surrounded by daily for over two decades but I make it up by meeting with close friends every other week. What are your goals for your business? How do you see the business five years from now? I established OmP3 LLC as a brand that will bring high quality, luxurious yet affordable beauty and comfort products to our customers. I see us having a whole line of such products in five years. What tips can you share to other women entrepreneurs? Choose to work on something you absolutely enjoy working on and love. Write a business plan and think big. Surround yourself with good people and tap into friends and family’s expertise. Take calculated risks and always engage in ethical business practices. Check out small business information sites regularly for helpful advice. Have a quality product/service and provide the best possible customer service.

Internet Marketing Interview With Super By Bob Jenkins

There’s no point leaving money on the table! You should absolutely consider every possible way to monetize your niche. As part of my quest to help you see what it really takes to succeed online, I’ve asked Super Affiliate Marketer Lynn Terry to share her thoughts on 4 key areas of her profitable online business: • Time management • Focus • Commitment, and • How to go from start to profit Did you know:

The first message ever relayed over the internet was “LOG” which was actually supposed to have been “LOGIN” but there was a huge crash and this difficult task couldn’t be completed for the time being. This was back in the 1960’s at the famous research university known as MIT.

MWM 17

mwm ask the expert Enjoy the interview, and be sure to hang out with Lynn and I in her internet marketing forum. Time Management Bob The Teacher: ClickNewz is one of the most popular affiliate marketing blogs out there, and I’m impressed by how much of a community feel you’ve developed there. I’d love to know how much time (as a ratio because I’m a math guy) do you spend on the following blog activities: • • • •

writing your posts, responding to comments, tweeting about your blog posts, linking back to your blog by commenting on other people’s blogs.

BTT: You get up at the crack of dawn most days to enjoy your coffee and the sunrise. Do you give yourself a schedule for how you complete each day’s tasks? Or do you just kinda wing it? LT: That’s true – I do love catching the sunrise over coffee ;) I start my day with a mini-task list. This is “the top 3 things I must get done first today”, and it is pulled from my master task list. Nothing, and I mean nothing, gets to skip line in front of my 3 priority tasks. The key is to keep a master task list, and to keep it prioritized. Any new thing that comes your way goes on that list – it doesn’t get to skip line and distract you the minute you discover it. My own list can become messy with all the strike through’s and additions, so I end each day by making sure it’s correctly prioritized. According to my objectives, of course. That way I can start the morning off each day by simply plucking the top 3 tasks off the list. Outside of that, which is done fairly early in the day, I don’t keep a strict work schedule. I have tried this in the past, but found that I prefer a lot of freedom and flexibility – particularly for my creative work, like writing. BTT: Do you have any time management tricks or tools that you rely on?

Lynn Terry: You actually outlined them in the exact order of time I spend, and priority I put on each of those tasks. I spend the majority of time writing blog posts, and then responding to the comments on those posts. Quality content and keeping a sense of community are my top priorities at my internet marketing blog. I notice that a lot of bloggers use automated tweeting systems to tweet their new blog posts, but I tweet mine manually – as a means of also opening the topic for discussion on Twitter. It only takes a matter of seconds to copy the URL and paste it into a tweet, and I like keeping it personal. As for blog commenting, it’s not one of my favorite link-building methods. I find that it takes more time and energy than other ways to gain high quality inbound links, so I usually get involved in blog comments simply because I have something to add to the discussion. The link is just a perkT :)

LT: The one thing that you have to do is figure out what is going to work best for you, in your environment and your unique circumstances. Some people have children or spouse’s schedules to work around, and we all have times of the day when we are most productive. You have to really take a look at your day, and your energy levels, and choose to work when you’re at your best. And if that time is limitedT focus on priority tasks. I use a dry-erase wall calendar because I am “out of sight, out of mind”, and I also use the calendar in Outlook (my email program) which will give me audio alerts. Those alerts are helpful as I often get so engrossed in researching, writing or link-building that I easily lose track of time. Focus BTT: When it comes to affiliate marketing, a lot of people have trouble getting focused on a specific niche. What advice would you give them? LT: First, any new ideas go on that master task list – they don’t get to “cut line” and take priority over your current project. That’s my rule. I may register a domain and make note of my idea on the master task list, but then it’s back to work on the current project until it is complete. Start to Profit – that’s my motto. Once you start a niche affiliate site, you take it all the way to profit and automation so that it’s in “maintenance mode”. You never want to have more than one project in “development phase” at a time – not until you’ve really mastered the process, at least.

BTT: Which area should you do more? Less? LT: I would like to blog more frequently. I currently post about one post per day on average. I did a little test with post frequency last year and found that it increases traffic exponentially. The more you post, the more appearances you make in Google results, and the more traffic you get to your blog. One of my goals is to up my posting frequency to 3 posts per day. That won’t necessarily be 3 pillar articles or lengthy tutorials, but perhaps one great post and then a couple of resourceful or fun posts.

BTT: People are infatuated with the idea of multiple streams of income. Do you prefer to develop your streams in different niches, or different areas of the same niche? LT: Great questionT You want to create multiple streams of income within your one niche for sure. There’s no point leaving money on the table! You should absolutely consider every possible way to monetize your niche. It’s a lot less work to add another stream of income to an established site than it is to start a new site in a new niche. Once I exhaust the options with a niche site, and have it running as automated as possible (requiring less than 5 hours a week to maintain -tops), then I will often move to another project – creating another website in another niche.

MWM 18

Stay focused. Once you pick a project, put everything you have into it. Commitment BTT: You’ve been online for over a decade now. Have you ever lost your sense of commitment to your business? If so, how did you overcome that so you could continue to grow? LT: Oddly, I’ve never fully lost my sense of commitment. There were times that I was frustrated with how things were going, or less than enthusiastic about the type of work where I was spending my time. It has never been to the point of that “burn out” feeling I’d had with jobs in the past, but anything less than being 100% happy always gets my attention. The minute I sense that lack of enthusiasm, I sit down and analyze the issues. I look for ways to outsource or automate if possible, or consider changes that may need to be made to my business model. I never let it go on without addressing it immediately. We spend entirely too much of our adult life involved in our career for it to make us even the slightest bit unhappy. BTT: When you’re developing a niche affiliate website, how long do you wait for it to turn a profit before you decide it’s not going to pan out? LT: It is so easy to turn a profit considering the low investment involved in starting a new niche affiliate site. To start, I usually have less than $20 invested before I start making sales – and that’s simply the domain name and first month of hosting. Even my very first niche affiliate site made a profit within 3 weeks. I’ve actually never had an affiliate site NOT turn a profit in short time. At least, not a site that I actually finished. ;) A lot of people give up before they complete the site, and market it properly. You can’t assume a niche or a website isn’t going to be profitable if you don’t commit to seeing it all the way through.

From Start To Profit BTT: How did you make your first dollar on the internet? LT: You’re really tapping my memory here, Bob – that was way back in the 90’s! lolT I honestly can’t recall how I made that very first dollar, but I do remember my first affiliate check – and it was a turning point in my online business, and the direction I ultimately chose (niche affiliate marketing). I had a web development company, and I had a client with a large mailing list that I was working for. He needed a new newsletter template designed, and offered to barter with me for one ad spot in his next issue. We had worked together for awhile so I accepted. I found an affiliate program that was a good match for his readership, wrote up an ad and included my affiliate link. As I watched the sales come in, and then the check arrived in the mailT I knew that affiliate marketing was something I wanted to explore on a bigger level. BTT: Why do you think so many people struggle to make their first dollar online? What can a new affiliate marketer do to accelerate their results? LT: Stay focused. Once you pick a project, put everything you have into it. If you aren’t sure what you’re doing – ask! There are plenty of forums, and plenty of sources for solid information, so there’s no reason to go it alone out there and wonder if you’re doing things right or not. The one mistake I see above all others is that people will start a project or a site, and never complete it. Ideas are a dime a dozen, and chasing ideas and doing a little work here and there is going to get you nowhere – and fast. Stick it out with one ideaT all the way from start to profit. BTT: You’ve used a lot of methods for making money as an affiliate: reports, blogging, videos, social media, etc. Which has brought you the most success? Has that changed over the last 5 years? LT: I am constantly testing new methods to increase my affiliate income. My favorite marketing method is SEO (search engine optimization) because it is incredibly effective – and results in passive traffic & sales. That said, I never rely on one method. The success is not in the platform (HTML vs WordPress), or in the marketing method even – the success is in the model of serving your market, in whatever ways it takes to reach them and engage them in your offer or your content. BTT: Thanks for sharing your time with us, Lynn! LT: Anytime! Want to meet Lynn and me in person? We’ll both be faculty members at the Niche Affiliate Marketing System workshop in Atlanta at the end of January. Use code 100nams3 to save $100 off your registration.

4 Ad Strategies to Make YOUR Ad a

WMM 21

Big Success By: Kevin Nunley

What should your ad say to make it really work? It's easy to write a killer ad when you have a simple strategy to follow. Use one of these 4 proven ad strategies to make your ad a success: 1. Make your company name better known. Rather than trying to sell a product or service, your ad can work to spread your company's name and image far and wide. If people know you are a trustworthy firm that will help them save money, prospects will think of you the next time they are ready to buy. Have your ad talk about who you are and the main benefit you give customers. 2. Your ad can build awareness of a particular product, service, or idea you offer. One could say I write these articles to demonstrate how I might write YOUR article. Your ad can work the same. It can talk about your product or service and the benefits it brings without making a direct effort to sell. The main idea is to make more people aware of this particular product. 3. Have your ad draw leads for you. Offer a free report, a free inspection, a low-cost or no-cost consultation -- and use that to build your email/contact list of interested prospects. This is probably the most effective type of advertising online. Once you have a good email list, you can sell products and services to your list year after year.

4. Finally, your ad can get orders for a particular product or service. Describe your service in a few words. Tell the top 2 or 3 ways it helps customers. Instruct readers how to buy. I like to end product/service ads with "Get it now!" That call for the sale is just what a lot of people need to see before they click ORDER. Ads work best when you can connect product or service features with the benefits they will bring the customer. For example, the hands off automated system will let you keep after prospects until they're ready to pay, no selling needed. You can write feature-benefits in bullet form: * New sleek design - fits comfortably in wallet or purse * Polished stainless steel - never rusts for a lifetime of use Try these ad ideas in separate ads one at a time. OR - try them all simultaneously. You will be building your brand and sales from the 4 proven angles and doing it the same way America's largest firms advertise.

If people know you are a trustworthy firm that will help them save money, prospects will think of you the next time they are ready to buy.

WHAT PRODUCTS DOES A TYPICAL SALES FUNNEL CONTAIN? By David A Clark

The first product will normally be a free gift to get the visitor to subscribe to your email list. Once the visitor has subscribed to your list and downloaded the free gift, Ebook, software, whatever, they are now in the top of your funnel. The top of the funnel is the widest part of the funnel and it is also the cheapest place to purchase one of your products. As the subscriber moves through the funnel he is presented with ever more expensive products. Normally the subscriber would not be allowed to progress through the funnel until they have purchased each product at the level they are currently at. As they purchase each new product you should encourage them to re-subscribe to a different list that is offering higher priced products than they have been buying. You should also remove the subscriber from the lower value list so he only has the option of higher priced products.

This means the subscriber can take quite a while to get through the funnel, often as much as several months. When the subscriber has been stuck in the funnel for a while you could offer them a higher value product to see if you can kick start them into purchasing again. This can sometimes work especially if they had already bought a similar product from another seller and did not need your product. Alternatively you can ask the subscriber, perhaps by way of a survey, what problems they are having and what do they need to learn. When they reply, providing it is something many other people would purchase, go ahead and create the product. You should get at least one sale, probably many more.

As they purchase each new product you should encourage them to resubscribe to a different list that is offering higher priced products than they have been buying. As the subscriber moves down the funnel, you need to continue to add products to the funnel so the subscriber will always have something new to buy. Not all subscribers will continue to buy but you need to make sure there is something to buy if they want to. Some subscribers will buy every product you have for sale and if they run out of your products to buy they will go elsewhere and may never come back. When the subscriber has purchased all of your informational products, you should start to sell them a coaching course. Compared with information products, coaching products have a much higher perceived value and anyway, this will probably be the next step that the subscriber needs to take.

Designing for the Social Web By: Joshua Porter

No matter what type of web site or application you’re building, social interaction among the people who use it will be key to its success. WRITE THOSE ARTICLES! By Jeremy Yeomann Article marketing is powerful and effective, and can take many forms. Blogging, submitting articles to other sites, email marketing and writing short reports are all article marketing. Writing just a few articles a week can lay the foundation for a very powerful, and profitable, online business. But how do you write a great and helpful article if you are not a 'writer'? I'm here to help! I'm going to share one of the formulas I use to write articles. It helps you help people, and *helping people* is what article marketing is all about. When you approach article marketing with a true desire to help, reciprocity will work for you. You will be rewarded for your efforts without having to resort to hype or high pressure sales tactics.

Paragraph 3 - Propose your solution -- A better way is to model someone who has "been there and done that." Someone you can trust and who will help you. Paragraphs 4 - 8 - Your five step solution -- Take these steps in researching solutions. 1.

Who are the leaders in the "getting traffic" field. 2. Can you afford to do what they teach you to do? 3. Does what they are proposing make sense to you? 4. Do they have a good reputation online? 5. Will you take action on what they suggest? Paragraph 9 - Summarize your argument -- If you find someone you can trust who has a proven model for getting traffic and you can afford to use what they suggest and will take action there is every reason to believe it will work for you.

Here's the step by step process for a "how to" article that gives the reader three or five steps to take to accomplish a task.

Paragraph 10 - Suggest an action step -- Make a list of the different ways to get traffic to a website and choose one that interests you most. Possibly include the list in the article.

Your article is going to have the following structure. This overview assumes a five point article.

Action step:

Paragraph 1 - Define the problem. Paragraph 2 - Review possible solutions Paragraph 3 - Propose your solution Paragraphs 4 - 8 - Your five step solution • Paragraph 9 - Summarize your argument • Paragraph 10 - Suggest an action step That's it! Simple, clean and effective.

• • • •

Paragraph 1 - Define the problem -- We all need traffic, but there is so much information out there that it becomes overwhelming and expensive. People are suffering from information overload. Paragarpah 2 - Review possible solutions -- You could waste time and money experimenting and you might find something that works. Or you might lose all your money. You could just do pay per click or buy a solo ad or put an ad on Facebook. But there are risks.

Think about things you can teach people to do in three or five short steps. It might be getting traffic to a website or it might be baking a cake. Doesn't matter really -- the process is what's important. Once you learn the process you will be able to write articles quickly from your own experience or from your observations or research. You will be an article writing machine! There you have it. I have written literally over 1000 articles using this very formula. It works for me and I believe it can work for you too. Article marketing changed my life and helped me build a strong online business that created both financial and time freedom. I want that for you too. Because freedom is a beautiful thing indeed!

Writing just a few articles a week can lay the foundation for a very powerful, and profitable, online business.

mwm Q&A Interview with SEO Expert Ali Husayni, CEO at MasterGoogle By Obaidul Haque In this interview, Ali Husayni (CEO, MasterGoogle) shares his expertise on the subject of SEO. He talks about the latest developments and the upcoming challenges in the world of SEO. Also the founder of Sinai Marketing Inc, Ali has invested a lot of time and energy into establishing his company’s stellar image in the online marketing industry.

The biggest secret behind Ali’s entrepreneurial success is his capability to turn clients into long-term partners. Q1. Could you provide us with a description of your general SEO experience? I was desperate for work when I was graduating from the University back in 2003. A friend of mine came to our home and told me his company was hiring a project manager. I asked him what they did and he said SEO. I asked “What”? And he said a few things that I didn’t understand a word of it. But I said I was interested anyways. That’s how I got introduced to SEO at Page 1 Solutions LLC. There, I was trained in SEO and Web development and next year started Sinai Marketing, which is now known as Master Google. Q2. Does PageRank (PR) really matter today? Of course. PageRank is a generalization of how Google ranks site(s). It’s usually outdated, but it gives a good indication of a site’s strength. -Stephen Colbert

Q3. How many target keywords, do you think, a site should focus on?

Q4. Recently, Google has made a lot of search algorithmic developments to target ‘link spam’. How can SEOs avoid penalties while building backlinks for their websites or blogs?

Know the basics of SEO. Study your prospects. And be careful, because you can only make this decision once for each website

This is the million dollar question. The short answer is “stay natural”. Don’t engage in link-building efforts that could be penalized by Google. After all, Google doesn’t appreciate artificial link-building development for the purpose of increasing a site’s ranks.

Q8. Why is Wikipedia so successful in terms of Google organic rankings?

I answer this in a different way: each web page could be optimized for 3-5 main words and the different synonyms or combination of phrases using these words.

The long answerT wellT that’s long and requires understanding of what “natural” means to Google. Keep in mind, the definition of “natural” could change as spammers learn new techniques and find new short-cuts. Q5. What’s the role of social media in an SEO strategy?

There is a recent article on this that I shared on my Google Plus page. That answers the question fully. However, the short answer is that Wikipedia has all the needed elements of SEO in place. This includes a vast ocean of content – that is updated regularly, amazing optimization techqniues including keywordrich URL’s as well as beautiful inner linking structure, and millions of naturally built back-links. The combination gives Wikipedia a killer SEO strategy.

Social Media is not a new phenomenon in the internet world. However, it’s effect on SEO is something very new. Google adopted and then dropped Tweets in the search results. It couldn’t reach an agreement with Facebook to get access to millions of its pages. And finally developed Google Plus after a couple of unsuccessful attempts with Buzz and Orkut. Google tried to integrate G+ with Google search and users were not so sure about the improving search results – so they backed out. Google still has not given up on its fight against Facebook. We’ll see what the end will have.

Q9. What are the key steps that you would like to follow while optimizing a website for keyword search?

Facebook and Twitter are also attempting to fight Google in the search market by partnering with Bing. However, Google still remains the search giant and Facebook the social media giant.

Q11. What tools do you have in your SEO toolkit?

There are rumors that Google ranks socially shared pages better if everything else is equal. But Google has denied this and I have not seen solid proof of it.

The key steps are: updating meta tags, header tags and making sure there are no spammy optimization techniques on the site – like keyword stuffing, etc. Q10. What areas of SEO do you like the most? I like all of it, but its ever-changing dynamic keeps me motivated.

I personally use back-link checkers and Adwords Keyword Selector Tool. But my team hasother tools they use. Q12. Name a couple of your favorite SEO industry blogs? SEOMoz and MattCutts.

So, what’s the role of social media in an SEO strategy? It’s hard to tell, but one thing I would suggest your readers is to get socially involved in Google Plus. Q6. How do you deal with a client who doesn’t want to follow your SEO recommendations? Our clients normally trust my team and me when it comes to recommendations. However, if we feel our relationship is not benefiting our clients, we will end it. Q7. Did you ever fail in an SEO project? Please share your experience. Of course! I’ve failed a few times. One of my two worst experiences was with the first serious Google SEO client I got. He was a cosmetic dentist in LA and I managed to get him ranked on the first page. He was amazed by the results and offered me triple the pay if I could use that to get him to the top. Not knowing enough SEO, I tripled my efforts in link-building and other things and managed to get him severely penalized by Google. He dropped to page 10 and I could never get him back to the first page.

Q13. What advice would you like to offer someone who’s looking for a good SEO company? Know the basics of SEO. Study your prospects. And be careful, because you can only make this decision once for each website (if you make the wrong decision, most probably the site will get penalized by Google). Q14. What are some key features that set MasterGoogle apart from other SEO firms or agencies? Our clients speak proudly of us. They share their testimonials and phone numbers with anyone who’s interested to enquire about us. We don’t sign any long-term contracts, so we have to earn our clients business each and every month. We study hard and work even harder to deliver the best possible service to our clients. Q15. How does your company plan to expand in the near future? Traditionally, we’ve expanded slowly and naturally. I expect the same will happen in future. [Don’t forget to follow Ali on Google Plus or connect with him on Twitter.]

The second bad experience happened when I decided to rank our own site on the first page of Google for the keyword “SEO”. For the first time, I decided to buy links. Amazingly, we got the site to the first page in less than two monthsT I let you guess the rest.

Thanks you very much Ali for sharing some of the most useful SEO tips with our readers. I really hope that the readers will be able to gather all the best recommendations you gave and use them to optimize their sites for better visibility in search engines like Google.

PASSWORD SECURITY By Charles Ogwyn

I could hear the frustration in Walt's voice over the phone. "I'm looking at my website right now and instead of a homepage, I've got a black page that says I've been hacked." After restoring Walt's website from a clean backup, I turned my focus to determining how the hacker got in. As it turned out, Walt was using his favorite password for his website the same password that he had used on many accounts for years. He knew that he should update his password, but he hadn't done so because until that morning it didn't seem all that important. With cyber-crime on the rise, let's take a quick look at one of the most common ways that passwords are compromised and what 3 things you can do to keep your login information safe. Brute Force Methods Brute force, sometimes known as an exhaustive key search, is a method that consists of trying enough password combinations until the right one is found. There are plenty of software programs available on the Internet that make it relatively easy for a kid with too much time on his hands to try and brute force his way into your online accounts. These software programs start with a dictionary - a long list of words like you would expect to find in the dictionary. This list contains lots of names, because people frequently use someone's name as a password. Birthdays and phone number are also popular passwords and the "dictionary" would include thousands of combinations of names, numbers, and misspellings. Substitute spellings where the numeral 1 is used in place of the character L are included in this list.

Password Safety Best Practices Longer passwords are better than shorter passwords. As you would expect, an 8 character password is much harder to crack than a 4 character password. This is because the resources required for a brute-force attack grow exponentially with increasing password length, not linearly. As a result, doubling the password length does not simply double the number of possible combinations, but rather squares them. This means than an 8 character password is 16 times harder to crack than a 4 character password. Make sure your passwords are at least 8 characters in length. Using as many types of characters as possible greatly strengthens your password and makes it much more difficult for your login credentials to be cracked. This means you should use upper case and lower case letters as well as numbers in all of your passwords. Using symbols like exclamation point (!), period (.), dollar sign ($), dash (-), etc., although not always allowed, greatly increase the security of your password. To see the difference that it makes in how long it would take for a brute-force password cracker to guess your password check out this table showing how long it would take for various lengths of passwords and characters. Changing your password regularly is a security best practice. I know this is easier said than done, but this is one of those areas where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Walt's situation is unfortunately not uncommon. Walt was lucky. He discovered the problem within just a few hours of when it happened and had access to a clean backup of his website. I was able to restore his website by the time he opened his doors for business in the morning. Most people in Walt's situation aren't that lucky. With cybercrime on the rise for the foreseeable future, it pays to be careful.

Changing your password regularly is a security best practice. I know this is easier said than done, but this is one of those areas where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Why You Need A Good Plan For Marketing Your Website By Randall A Magwood

A good plan for marketing your website is something that can definitely come in handy. The more you follow your plan on a daily basis, the higher your chances of success you will have due to you following the things that work, and stop doing the things that don't work. It's really simple. The first thing on your plan should be which niche to operate in. There are a lot of niches out there, and niches like "forex", "make money online", "internet marketing", "dating", "online dating", and etc are hard to monetize. You will need a ton of traffic everyday, and a way to keep selling to your customers over and over again. Now selling to your customers again and again is something that is very important. The bottom line is that if you're not selling to your existing customers, you're missing out on 80% of your total business revenue. That's what business is all about... leveraging your asset list and making a nice living off of your customers for years and years down the line. Now you may think that this is absurd, but I assure you that it's the truth. I know of a guy who was making $20,000 a month on of backend sales (selling to existing customers), even when he stopped acquiring new customers on the front end. He had a newsletter business, and a catalog that he would mail out every month to his customers. Guy made a killing - and still is till this day. Understand that I'm not saying that you have to get rich quick. No not at all. All I'm saying is that you need to have a plan that you can fall back on if you need to boost your sales and profits immediately. You should have a marketing "funnel", and put all of these leads into a funnel, and then sift them out with your marketing, and turn the best prospects that you sifted out into customers. That's a good analogy there.

If you're not selling to your existing customers, you're missing out on 80% of your total business revenue. Make sure you get a good email autoresponder because it's a great way to stay in touch and follow up on your leads and customers. And actually, the more you email to your list and customers, the more money you will make. Experts online say it takes about an average of 7 follow ups for someone on your email list to buy. I've found that some of my leads buy before the 7 follow ups, but the majority of them buy months down the road. It's just no telling what could be going on in your prospects' lives. They could be going through financial hardship, or some other kind of personal problem that's affecting their ability to buy right now. But don't look for the quick buck. Continue to follow up on your leads as normal and be patient. They will buy when they're ready. A good plan like this is enough to make you successful online. There are no special remedies needed to profit online. The more you apply yourself and have a good marketing plan, the more likely you are to see yourself getting orders on a regular basis. Be sure to consider these tips in your business. Good luck with marketing online.

Profitable Niches - 3 Step Beginner's Guide to Choosing a Profitable Niche (Time to Get Started?) By Jeff Herring

While it's important to be passionate about what you do, you also have to make sure you choose a niche that other people are passionate enough about to spend money with you.

Niche marketing is a great way to build an online business. The good news is there are many, many profitable niches out there for you to enter. The bad news is that there is so much information out there about how to choose a niche. So here are 3 simple steps that beginners can use to choose a profitable niche. The more experienced and even veterans are welcome too. 3 Steps for Beginners So let's get started: Step 1 - Most people choosing a niche are confused by all the different advice given. The biggest source of confusion is the trumpet blast of choose something you are passionate about. The reason you do want to choose something about which you are passionate is your passion will keep you going when the going gets rough. So do choose a niche for which you have passion. Yet that passion is not enough. Read on to discover what I mean. Step 2 - While it's important to be passionate about what you do, you also have to make sure you choose a niche that other people are passionate enough about to spend money with you. Make sure you do your due diligence research to see if there are enough people who share your passion. It's amazing what you can do. I know a woman whose niche is Corgi dogs. But not the dogs themselves. No, her niche is Corgi dog stuff key chains, mugs, picture frames, etc. Step 3 - You want to look for a niche about which you are passionate and that many others are passionate about as well. Then those other passionate folks need to be willing to spend money with you. Where those two lines cross, you just might have a powerful niche.

5 Easy Ways to Fill Autoresponders With Effective Content By Kevin Nunley Here are several specific ways you can fill your autoresponders with content you may already have, or with content you can easily get. This will help make you interesting to prospects, establish you as an authority with customers, and bring in new and additional sales. Don't worry. These five ways are tried and true having evolved over the years as real winners for ecommerce. 1) Take your long sales letter and divide it up into shorter parts. 180 words is plenty for an autoresponder message. Often you can fill up a number of messages simply by using the longer sales letter you have on hand. Use the sales letter introduction for the first message, discussion of the features for the next few messages, the customer testimonials for the next, and the guarantee and bonuses for another message. 2) Create a short email course. Write some instructions on how to do something. It might be ways to use your product. Or how to know when a prospect needs your service. You don't have to be a great writer, just get your instructions down on paper (or, in this case, word processor.) I once used several how-to articles I had written for an "email course." Each autoresponder message was an article with a plug for my services at the end. I put the signup form on my site. Over a period of 2 years the list of people subscribing reached 15,000.

At the end of the day your autoresponders are doing the one thing that always leads to more sales -- they're following up with customers and prospects, staying with customers until they buy. 3) Fill your autoresponder with issues of your own newsletter. Include some helpful short articles (get them from one of the many article directories), some news about your business, and answers to common questions. Set your newsletter to go out once each week or twice per month. 4) Special offers just for YOU! Customers love this. Pick out a product or service and offer it at a special discount or with an enhanced option. Have your autoresponder series deliver these special offers over time. 5) Upsell for greater profits! Right after a customer places an order, have your autoresponder send them a sales pitch for an additional purchase. "Now that you own those beautiful fish, you need a fish tank!" At the end of the day your autoresponders are doing the one thing that always leads to more sales -- they're following up with customers and prospects, staying with customers until they buy. You also are building your email list. And that's one of the true secrets to making money online and off for years to come.

LAURA WELLINGTON: Success in Children’s Entertainment Business By Isabel Isidro

The inspiration to start a business can come from anywhere, even from tragedy. Laura Wellington, a seasonedentrepreneur running two successful IT businesses, was inspired to start a children’s entertainment company when she was hit with a double dose of tragedy: the death of her husband and the sad events of September 11, 2001. Without any prior experience in children’s entertainment, Laura took a huge leap into an industry far beyond her comfort zone and started the Giddy Gander Company. Today, the Giddy Gander Company has developed a children show called The Wumblers http://www.wumblers.com , an online store called The Wumbler Patch http://www.wumblerpatch.comand even a retail store. With the characters of the show rooted in watermelon, Laura has won the endorsement of notable organizations such as The National Watermelon Association of the United States and Temple Inland. These organizations have adopted the Baby Wumbler as their new logo, and as such, will be displaying the Baby Wumbler image on all shipping boxes and watermelon bins found in supermarkets across the nation beginning Spring 2009.

“The key to any success and especially many successes at one time are the people you surround yourself with.”

MWM 44 We interviewed Ms. Laura Wellington on the success of The Wumblers, and the challenges of running not one, but several successful businesses: What is the Giddy Gander Company formed and what inspired you to start the business? The Giddy Gander was founded in 2006. The combination of my husband passing away from cancer and the ramifications of the Tragedy of 9/11 on families across the country and around the world compelled me to set myself on the path of helping to make the world a better place for kids. We (as parents and human beings) couldn’t allow our children’s futures to run the course it was as it was a course of destruction. The Giddy Gander Company, The Wumblers, and The Wumbler Patch brand is a means of change for ALL, for the better, and the long run!

The manner in which my team has mastered combining “simplicity and sophistication” sets The Wumblers dramatically apart from the rest. You have been developing and supporting IT pricing systems for nearly two decades. What were the challenges of going in a different direction and starting a children’s company? There was a significant leaning curve I needed to overcome prior to actually jumping both feet into the children’s entertainment industry. I spent about three years educating myself to the who, what, where, when, and how’s of children’s television and licensing. Although the learning was cumbersome, my passion for what I was venturing to do drove me. I was also quite lucky in meeting wonderful people along the way who took me under their wings, mentored me, and guided me towards where I am today. This has been a journey of many.

Giddy Gander Company has created the cartoon show The Wumbers. What is the Wumblers and how does it differ from other cartoon characters? The Wumblers is a highly imaginative, humorous show designed to educate kids to their social, global, and environmental responsibilities to humankind and the world. The series uses the languages of fun and play to relate to the target audience of 2-7 years of age.. Since it, was created by a mom and former teacher, the series presents ideas, stories, and solutions that delve deeper than what is normally portrayed in television shows addressing the same age group. The manner in which my team has mastered combining “simplicity and sophistication” sets The Wumblers dramatically apart from the rest. What was the inspiration to create the Wumblers? Children, that’s where all children’s television shows should begin. I love children! In fact, I am expecting my fifth child after having remarried this year. We will have six children between my husband and myself. Aside from the Wumblers show, where else can we see the Wumblers? What are the other products of the Giddy Gander Company? Besides our informational-play website directed at parents and children (www.wumblers.com), The Wumblers merchandise are available through a variety of online merchants as well as at our own retail website, www.wumblerpatch.com. We also own a brick and mortar retail store in Ridgewood, NJ, which we invite you to visit. The merchandise line currently consists of dvd’s, cd’s, plush, puzzles, games, food products, books, apparel, etc.

Everyday is a new adventure. Keeping priorities straight is key though. How are you marketing the business, particularly the characters and the brands? Our marketing, public relations, and licensing departments are handled in-house and led by my Vice President of Strategic Development, Heidi Schwartz. We found this to be the most effective way of building The Wumblers brand. It is the combination of our vast ingenuity and the efforts of our licensing and business development partners that has allowed us to grow as quickly as we have. We are a team oriented firm and everyone is encouraged to share their opinions even outside their particular domains. I am a big believer of learning from each other. I also am a stickler for consistency and credibility. Our goal is to build an evergreen brand which remains consistent with the reasons we set upon this journey in the first place. You have also opened a retail store in New Jersey. What are the unique challenges of starting a retail store? What are your plans for the store? Our store is more of a showcase store. We opened it to test and display product. We rely (and will continue to rely) on outside retailers to handle the majority of our retail distribution although we do sell product out of this store. We plan this to be the one and only one retail store we directly own, the lone patch where all baby Wumblers are actually born.

What are your goals for Giddy Gander Company? How do you see the company and its brands five years from now? The Giddy Gander Company will continue to grow concentrating on The Wumblers children’s entertainment series and The Wumbler Patch brands. Right now, the baby Wumbler is an enormous product for us. We also recently launched an amazing iPhone application called iSeedSpit! which is activated by the player blowing into his/her iPhone microphone. It simulates an actual watermelon seed spitting contest but in virtual form and automatically translates scores to Facebook. This app has launched a global competition amongst children and parents. It’s also been accused of getting kids to eat their fruits and veggies as a result of the fun and good feelings it generates. We will continue to expand out with new and unique merchandise likes this and eventually move into creating a second season for broadcast television as we continue to grow internationally as well. We will undoubtably become a conglomerate in five years. You also own and run two other companies. What is your secret for managing three different businesses at the same time? The key to any success and especially many successes at one time are the people you surround yourself with. I have a great team supporting me professionally and personally. They make all of the difference in the world. How do you balance your family and hectic business lives? One step at a time. Everyday is a new adventure. Keeping priorities straight is key though. What is the most important lesson you have learned from all the businesses you have started and run? Enjoy what you are doing and you will not have worked a day in your life. What tips can you share to other women entrepreneurs? Fear is but a test. How you handle it will determine whether or not you reach the next step in your journey. Let it energize you but never stop you.
