I have a windows computer, and I want to know how to design, create, and program my own iPhone app. Is there a software that can do this on windows. I know that Xcode is confusing and is only for macs. I want to create an app as easy as possible. I don't want to put it in the actual AppStore, but I just want it on my iPod touch.-Jenny. Generally speaking you are going to require the use of a MacBook or iMac to create your App. You’ll need to learn Objective C, or use one of the App creation services like AppMakr.com. -Ed.

What is Offline Marketing? I keep hearing about it, but can’t really find out what it is? - Connie.

What is the best way to design a website so that someone with no html skills can update and edit it? I usually use Dreamweaver for web design, but it needs to be more simple than that. A client wants to be able to make small changes and add info to the site himself in the future. Any suggestions for software or an online service that would give me design freedom and control, yet be easy for him to edit? It would be best if it is cheap or free and it has to be able to run on a mac and a pc. Thanks in advance!. - Ken. For this type of setup, you really can’t go past Wordpress. You setup wordpress, do the initial design for your client and then give them the information to access the backend, and show them how to create pages and posts.. Ed.

Offline marketing is the opposite of online marketing. Online marketing is marketing/advertising done over the internet. Offline marketing is the traditional methods of marketing such as television/newspaper/magazine adverts, posters, jingles, etc. -Ed.

MWM news AMAZON TO OPEN ITS FIRST PHYSICAL STORE

FACEBOOK CLAMPS DOWN ON FAKE "LIKES" TO PROTECT

BUSINESSES The social network is tackling scammers who seek to produce fake Likes.

Amazon is reportedly moving from online to offline with a 34th Street location in Manhattan, right in time for the holidays. It's still being very secretive about the rumors, though. The world's largest online retailer, Amazon, has already transcended cyberspace enough to threaten brick-andmortar stores. The e-commerce juggernaut may pose a further threat this holiday season by opening its first physical store in New York City, according to the Wall Street Journal. The potential store would likely fill the void of immediacy in e-commerce, mostly serving as a showroom for consumers to pick up, return, and exchange items without having to be at the mercy of the U.S. Postal Service. Amazon's store can also be expected to stock popular items, as well its own branded electronics. "They'll have a small showcase of their core products, I'm sure, but the fact is, they know what products people in New York need every single day," says Bryan Eisenberg, a digital marketing veteran. "Amazon is extremely data-driven. They know what products they need to have, what's going to work, what's going to move." Eisenberg recently co-founded a start-up called IdealSpot, which uses predictive algorithms to help businesses determine the best possible place to set up shop. He says if Amazon had requested his services, he would have placed the retailer exactly where it's reportedly going: the heart of Midtown, directly across the street from the Empire State Building. The 34th Street location is also walking distance from four of the city's busiest five subway stations.

Facebook is tightening its security rules and using machine learning to spot suspicious behavior in a bid to clamp down on "Like" scams that hurt businesses through fraudulent activity. The social network explained that businesses are being duped into purchasing Likes from companies that guarantee a certain number in order to help a business build up its brand awareness. But many of the Likes are fake, and the company providing them is committing fraud. By guaranteeing Likes to a client company, these scammers generate fake Likes directed at a company's page and then charge the client for the service. But given that these Likes are not from genuine users, the benefits they provide are negligible, thereby effectively defrauding the client company. Businesses generally chase page Likes in order for their posts to appear on the pages of users who did the liking. However, the use of fake profiles to generate false Likes erodes the effectiveness of this awareness-building tactic. In a website post, Matt Jones, site integrity engineer at Facebook, explains that such scams are effective only when they are scalable and that the company is taking measures to prevent them. "To make it harder for these scams to be profitable, our abuse-fighting team builds and constantly updates a combination of automated and manual systems that help us catch suspicious activity at various points of interaction on the site, including registration, friending, liking, and messaging," he says. Jones also says that Facebook is using more sophisticated tools and has contributed some of its spam-fighting technology to academics in a bid to help companies combat similar problems with scammers. "We want to help block spam no matter where it spreads," he says.

Amazon has toyed with the idea of a physical location in the past; a few years back, the retailer was said to have been scouting locations in Seattle, but the store never came to fruition. Until now, the company has only ever dipped its feet in the offline pool, experimenting with pop-up shops and the Amazon Lockers that accommodate drop-offs and returns, though not same-day delivery. "We all know multichannel adds tremendous value," Eisenberg says. "Yes, they dominate online, but they don't have any physical channels. It's going to give them a chance to touch people in real life and give them that full experience." Amazon declined to comment on the rumor and simply said that "no announcements have been made about any location in Manhattan."

Quotable:

While Facebook explores the use of machine learning and other technologies to combat scammers, Jones also says that the company will use legal judgments against fraudulent companies. Facebook will also take action to stifle scammer operations by slowing their account activity if unusually high volumes of Likes are detected. Jones encourages businesses to be vigilant about fraudulent activity and to use Facebook to drive in-store sales or boost app downloads rather than rely on thirdparties to generate page Likes. Facebook is clearly taking security and fraudulent activity on its social network very seriously, particularly as it recently armed its users with anti-malware technologies from security firms F-Secure and Trend Micro.

GREAT IDEA FOR A BUSINESS, BUT NO EXPERIENCE? THESE FOUNDERS PROVE IT CAN BE DONE. By: Nina Zipkin

"ALL THE RESEARCH IN THE WORLD WILL LEAD YOU IN ONE DIRECTION, BUT UNTIL YOU START MAKING DECISIONS AND SEEING THE RAMIFICATIONS OF THOSE DECISIONS, THAT'S WHEN YOU START LEARNING."

Sometimes when you're starting a new company, your confidence wavers and you need a sign you're heading in the right direction. Hard work and a sign that came in the form of a trip to the barber shop helped propel Ariel Nelson and Lane Gerson toward the launch of Jack Erwin, a yearold men's footwear company that just raised $9 million in new funding. The lesson that Jack Erwin's founders learned is one that aspiring entrepreneurs should never forget: Don't let your great idea be stalled by your own lack of experience.

Quotable:

“A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention with the possible exceptions of handguns and Tequila.” ― Mitch Ratcliffe

Nelson and Gerson's story starts like this: One afternoon in May 2012, the longtime friends found themselves wandering around Manhattan. Nelson, 31, needed a decent pair of shoes for a wedding, but kept coming across choices that were too trendy, overly styled and or just way out of his price range. His frustration got them talking, and spurred an idea: what if they made a classic, simple, and high-quality shoe for $100, and sold it for $200? The pair, tired of feeling priced out of everything, knew that they would buy them and thought other guys might too -- but first they had to figure out how to make shoes. Gerson, 32, worked in accounting and finance and Nelson's background was in food and beverage distribution. In other words, when it came to shoes, they knew what they would pay for and what they liked, but not much else.

With a mentor to guide them, Gerson and Nelson continued to learn about their business, exploring everything from how to source factories and tanneries to how to raise money. Most of their learning came through doing.

After a summer of industry research and a few leads, they thought they might be onto something, but were still entrenched in their day jobs. Nelson says his work days had him in the office as early as 5 a.m. and were leaving him exhausted and strapped for time. "I loved the concept and I wanted to push the needle forward, but I was pushing it all onto [Gerson]," he says.

Nelson interjected, explaining his business idea and asking if they could meet for dinner or drinks. "He said yes, and he's actually sitting over there now," Nelson says, gesturing to the office space portion of the company's Lower Manhattan headquarters, an airy third floor space that doubles as the showroom and the founders' living space.

One day, Nelson went to get a haircut. But instead of going to his regular place, he decided to pop into a two-seat, $10 shop on his block.

Nelson's fellow barbershop patron was Bertrand Guillaume, now the company's VP of product. Guillaume was previously a head buyer for Ralph Lauren's luxury Purple Label and Saks Fifth Avenue's senior director of merchandising.

That decision would change everything. "There's a French guy sitting in the chair next to me, talking to his barber like he's his therapist," he recalls. "He was saying how he's been in the shoe industry for 20 some odd years, he's built collections for billion-dollar brands, but he's never felt any ownership of his own. He always passed it on to someone else and it never felt like it was his. And I was like, I'm pretty sure this is the moment where I'm supposed to say something."

With a mentor to guide them, Gerson and Nelson continued to learn about their business, exploring everything from how to source factories and tanneries to how to raise money. Most of their learning came through doing. "All the research in the world will lead you in one direction, but until you start making decisions and seeing the ramifications of those decisions, that's when you start learning," said Gerson.

Jack Erwin today Jack Erwin – an amalgam of Nelson and Gerson's fathers' names – officially launched as an online-only store with an appointment-only showroom in October of 2013. A year and three collections later, the company has raised $9 million in Series B funding on top of $2.8 million in previous funding. The round was led by Brown Shoe Company, with additional investments from CrossLink Capital, Shasta Ventures, and FundersGuild. Previous investors included Prolific Venture Capital and Menlo Ventures. Two months after their launch, Gerson and Nelson had sold out the 3,000 pairs of shoes they had made and in the next month and a half they had a waiting list of 4,000 customers. They say they're on track to take in "a few million in sales this year." Gerson and Nelson say they are able to keep their prices competitive by selling direct to consumers and cutting middleman markups out of the equation. "The same shoe in the traditional wholesale model would be sold at a 2-2.5x markup to the retailer, like a Saks, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, who in turn would add an additional 2.5x markup, which would make that original pair -- one that cost $100 or so to make -- hit retail shelves for more than $500. We sell direct to you at a price that's closer to $195," the pair explained. To that end, the shoes in the company's Foster, Wright and most recently released Sullivan collections range from $95 driving loafers to $220 wingtip combat boots. The majority of the products are priced in the $195 range. The pair says its aim is to have each collection and product be distinctive but also versatile and complementary with the others. The shoes are manufactured in Spain from four different factories. The company now has a staff of six, including Gerson, Nelson and Guillaume, which takes in operations, design and development and customer service. Everyone who joins the Jack Erwin team starts in a customer service role.

"It’s an ode to our parents and the clothes that they wore. Our parents never bought the most expensive clothes in the world, so it's like what our parents would wear at a price they would almost pay."

Jack Erwin's appeal is in its simplicity, its founders say. Clothes change every season, but Gerson and Nelson think shoes can be a constant, and they want to be a brand that customers can latch onto. "It’s an ode to our parents and the clothes that they wore. Our parents never bought the most expensive clothes in the world, so it's like what our parents would wear at a price they would almost pay," Gerson said with a laugh. Over time, the pair would like to explore the men's leather goods and accessories space, but don't foresee going into apparel. They say they are happy taking a slow and methodical approach, because, like the shoes they make, they want to be a brand that lasts. So, jumping into a new industry and new company, did they ever want to just throw in the towel? Absolutely, but they said that relationships they had cultivated with people who were relying on them compelled them stick with it. "There are lots of times we could’ve stopped, thinking this makes no sense, and we're not shoe guys. But we said screw it, we’re doing this, we'll just keep pushing forward and figure it out," said Nelson.

MWM ask the expert 1. Hi Richard, you seem to be a prolific entrepreneur and blogger. What excites you more, create a business or writing about creating a business? Definitely creating businesses and building brands. However, some of my greatest joy comes from the emails I get from people that were inspired by one of my posts to start something of their own. Those are the best emails and they the reason I write about my experiences.

2. At FinchGoods.com you really nailed the nostalgic general store feel. You have a real knack for creating a strong brand. How difficult is it for you to design a new brand? Creating a brand isn’t terribly difficult. I was fortunate to have been able to work closely with a top tier branding professional several years ago. I was able to take away an incredible amount of information on the process of building a brand. I have actually begun working on a branding book, where I have taken all my branding knowledge and distilled it into a very simple step-bystep guide. It’s not quite done but you can sign up to learn more here.

3. For entrepreneurs out there, is it more important to focus on store experience or traffic acquisition at the very beginning? That’s a bit of a 50/50. I believe you need to have some minimum level of store experience, it definitely can’t be awful, however, the only way you can really improve your store experience is by driving traffic to begin understanding what your visitors like and don’t like. Once you start driving traffic, you can start getting into fun stuff like heat maps and A/B testing.

4. What are the best ways to market a brand new store and start driving online traffic? The million dollar question. There’s no blanket answer that will work for every store. It depends on your products, your customers and where they hang out. One of the biggest mistakes most people make, especially new online entrepreneurs, is not putting enough planning, energy and money behind each channel they do choose to use. Writing a few 300 word blog posts for SEO won’t work. Spending $25 on Facebook Ads or Google Adwords won’t work. With that said, here’s a few things I would recommend in general: Start with one marketing channel at a time. Whether that’s Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, Sponsored Reviews or Sponsored Instagram Posts. Track. Make sure you track all your paid links so you know what is driving sales. Learn more about UTM tracking. Put enough time and money behind each channel. I’d say at least $500-$1,000. Make sure you’re making the most of all traffic that is coming to your site by implementing a popup email capture (Join Our Newsletter), Upselling (At checkout or on product pages, suggest other products that compliment what they are looking at), and Abandon Car Emails.

THE DON’TS OF INTERNET MARKETING By: Michelle Barker

To create an effective internet marketing campaign, it is very fundamental to have a target group in mind and create the campaign for the target! It is true that internet is no longer the rocket science people thought it to be previously. In fact, with nearly the majority of the globe having an access to this medium, it is not a bad thought to undertake some marketing efforts through this mode. Yet, internet marketing may not be all that easy! With so many products being advertised in so many different ways online, there has to be some element to make one’s online campaign a stand out! Here are few of the ‘don’ts of the internet marketing framework 1. You cannot please everyone As internet is accessible to everyone, one might be tempted to try and impress everyone through the online marketing. However, this is strictly a bad idea. To create an effective internet marketing campaign, it is very fundamental to have a target group in mind and create the campaign for the target! 2.

Work on the creativity There are endless companies who are already carrying out their marketing campaigns. Therefore, in order to stand out from the many, it is critical to have excellent creative content in the internet promotions campaign. Ensure that the content is not plagiarized. After all, that would never leave a good impression in the target audience’s mind.

3. Do not promise what you cannot deliver Also, it is very tempting to make big promises through the marketing content. However, it should be taken into consideration that customers are very aware these days and any false promise will be remembered by them! If you do not want to loose future sales prospects, promise what you can deliver! 4. Do not wait Lastly, it is crucial to execute the online marketing campaign as soon as possible. Waiting too long to launch a campaign can put your competitor far ahead of you. Therefore, be quick and grab the attention!

THE DO’S OF INTERNET MARKETING By: Ralph Patterson Surfing the internet is like a daily routine for people today. As addictive mind-altering substances go, coffee is actually pretty hard to hit up on the move. If you’re out of range of a Starbucks, getting a hot, caffeine-rich epsresso generally requires a 20-pound machine and mains electricity, which is exactly the first-world problem this dinky espresso machine exists to tackle. About the size of a small thermos, the Minipresso combines coffee grounds and hot water into sweet sweet espresso, thanks to the application of a little elbow grease to the integrated pump. While it’s a little bit of a faff to use on a daily basis, it’s probably a good solution for campers, or people who work in kettle-only offices and are willing to be the butt of endless jokes. Pre-order is $US39 (shockingly NOT through Kickstarter), with delivery slated for early 2015.

Smart wearable devices are becoming more and more popular with manufacturers and new line of wearables launched over the last few years providing smart rings, one such new device is aptly named The Ring.

The Ring Originally launched over on the Kickstarter crowd funding website where it raised over $800,000 during its successful campaign. The Ring is now available to purchase for $270 directly from the official website.

Learn the WEIRD trick that allowed this single Mother to climb out of debt and make over $700 per week helping businesses with their Facebook and Twitter accounts! Hi, I’m Annie Jones. This is my story… story Like most single parents around the world my mornings are pretty busy with the mad dash to get the kids out of bed, washed, dressed and fed in time to leave for school. I love this time though because I know that once the stress of getting them to the school gate is over, I get to go home and start ‘work’. That might sound a little strange because not a lot of people love their work, and I used to be the same, but my life has changed so drastically in the last 12 months that I now LOVE getting back home to start work. Nowadays work for me involves logging on to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, reading and replying to some comments and scheduling some posts for the day. The businesses that I do this for don’t have the time to do this work themselves and it’s not enough work to hire someone full time, so they pay me to do the work for them part time from home. The best part is that ANYONE who knows how to use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube can do this ‘work’, and there are millions of businesses around the world hiring for these positions RIGHT NOW! I sometimes find it hard to believe how great my life is now because it wasn’t always this good…

Now I am the one earning hundreds of dollars each week just for playing around on Facebook and Twitter!

MWM Q&A INTERVIEW WITH INBOUND MARKETING GURU GIANLUCA FIORELLI Optimizing a site from scratch is like building a house. First of all I take care that the structure is perfect, and this means that I pay special attention to everything technical: IA, navigation architecture, canonicalization, keyword targeting.

Well this interview is of a celebrity in field of SEO. I can bet if you are in the field of SEO you know his name and you certainly have followed his suggestions. I am really grateful to Lord for granting us people like Mr Gianluca Fiorelli. What else to write for his introduction I wonder his name is his introP He is a specialist of inbound marketing, a Associate Mozzer. He is the most esteemed inbound internet marketing consultant in the internet space of Italy. A TV content manager turned to SEO is now the owner of ILoveSeo.net and ItaliaSeo. Most worth mentioning aspect is his helpfulness for his juniors and fellow professionals.

-Stephen Colbert

So let’s begin questioning him:

Would you mind sharing how you became a search marketer? What’s your background?

What’s your strategy of optimizing a site from scratch for search engines? What steps you always follow? Optimizing a site from scratch is like building a house. First of all I take care that the structure is perfect, and this means that I pay special attention to everything technical: IA, navigation architecture, canonicalization, keyword targeting.

I started working as search marketer by mistake. In fact, in 2003, I was working as head of programming for a cable TV station in Italy, and my professional future seemed quite firm in the Italian television industry.

At the same time, though, I also care a lot that “the house” is designed for those, who will live in it: the users. Hence, UX, pagespeed, but also – or, better, especially – defining the voice and the content the site will have over the base of very detailed audience analysis.

But, due to a merge between platforms, it happened that those TV channels I was working for disappeared.

Can you please enlist the issues you faced regarding SEO while working with enterprises for redefining their marketing strategy?

It was under those circumstances that I was moved by my boss at those time to the web departement of the Network.

The biggest issue is agility. When SEOs say that big businesses companies are like dinosaurs, they are right. Enterprises act slowly because of many reasons, the first being the bureaucracy usually established in the companies. And somehow it can be understandable: big companies works with a lot of money, and every decision can seriously affect negatively/positively their revenues.

So, after short time, I started getting into SEO and Paid Search and here I am, working as an inbound consultant.

Due to the merger of social media and search engine what in your opinion are the challenges in link building? I think that Social Media and Link Building are good allies since a long time. With that I mean that Link Building, at least for me, since quite many years already wasn’t meaning article marketing, directories et al, but producing content (or, better, suggesting what content to produce) so that the audience of the sites of my clients is interested about, and using social media both as an immediate way of promoting that content within the audience, and promoting it especially within that people, who influence that same audience, the so called influencers.

How would you adjust SEO in the bigger picture of content marketing/strategy? Please give your views on it. I usually say that Content, meant both as Content Strategy and Content Marketing, is the fuel, without which our car (the site) can’t go. And without it, SEO and Social Media too are not going to be so effective they could be. Hence, Content surely is at the fundament of a great working site, and SEO cannot but be helped by it. Said that, I want to state clear that in my honest opinion SEO should be trying to be Content Marketers, but be very good in working with a group of specialized content marketers, having common objectives and influencing one each other.

Nonetheless, when it comes to Internet Marketing, their long decision times are many times too long indeed. For that reason it is always a wise move to target and having as client partner someone – person or team – that is able to take important decisions with a certain grade of autonomy.

Which tools you rely on for efficiency and increase in productivity please share them? The tools that daily save my productivity are: 1. Screaming Frog Spider SEO; 2. Open Site Explorer and Majestic SEO; 3. The Keyword Difficulty Tool (a Moz Pro tool); 4. The Moz Campaign manager, and the new Moz Analytics, which I am already able to use being a Moz Associate; 5. Buzzstream and Trello; 6. Obviously, Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics and Excel.

Well the most important question of your followers? What are your tips and suggestions for doing great SEO (inbound marketing)? My biggest suggestion is: “Make your SEO invisible”. SEO should never be perceived from the users, as you don’t perceive consciously that an engine is working when you’re driving, because you are just enjoying that: driving. With this I mean that we should not work thinking a Google, but thinking at the users. If we will be able to orcherstrate an Inbound Strategy with our Audience as central point, and not the search engines, then we will seriously have the opportunity to have success. If you create a site that responds to your audience needs, then your audience will start trusting you more and more. You will gain followers, who will be your first commercial force. Doing so, brand recognition (meant also as entity recognition), natural links, citations and co-occurrences and links will come quite easily. But that needs constance, a very well done audience analysis and the ability to deliver into a series of consistent action the strategy you may have drawn.

Thank you sir, for your time and answering all questions. I am sure this will help our readers to understand SEO better!

INTERNET MARKETING THROUGH Using PPC CAMPAIGNS By: Mario Conner

You may have often times seen that there are ads displayed on the top and the right side of a search engine result page. What better than this as an internet marketing strategy? Get your ads displayed and direct potential customers to your brand’s website. If you are considering an online advertising campaign, read ahead to know if paid advertising can serve as your internet marketing tool. What is a PPC campaign? The ‘paid advertising’ or a ‘Pay per Click’ campaign is a tool by which advertisers publish their ads on the internet. It is called a ‘Pay per Click’ as the advertiser pays the publishing site when the ads created by the advertiser are clicked on. How to go about it? To create the paid advertising content, advertisers normally bid for the keywords which are most relevant for their products and their target customers. The PPC ads are created based on the keywords. These ads are then displayed online on the search engine result page. Why select the PPC campaigns? The reason for the PPC to be an effective internet marketing tool is that it makes it possible for the advertisers to directly move the traffic towards their websites. On the flip side, there is no guarantee that the PPC ads will bring the desired result for the advertiser. Attention! What one needs to be careful about while creating the online ads through a PPC campaign is that the keyword phrases should be chosen carefully. They should be chosen so as to create the maximum impressions and attract the potential customers to visit the website of the advertiser. Furthermore, the landing page of the website should also be made such as to enforce a buying action from the visitor. Lastly, PPC campaigns can prove quite costly if a control on the costs in not kept in mind. So, keep a check on the budget! The reason for the PPC to be an effective internet marketing tool is that it makes it possible for the advertisers to directly move the traffic towards their websites. On the flip side, there is no guarantee that the PPC ads will bring the desired result for the advertiser.

SEO – AN INTERNET MARKETING TOOL By: Michelle Barker If you are planning on creating an internet marketing campaign, one possible route you could take would be the ‘Search Engine Optimization.’ What this will do is increase the visibility of your website on the search engine’s search result page. With your website’s impression featuring earlier than your rivals, there is a good chance that the prospects would visit your website rather than the competitors! Not only will the site appear in top of the search results, with the search engine optimization, there is a good chance that the site’s impression will appear more frequently.

Once you have the keywords, you can incorporate them in the coding of your website content and ensure that your website is featured in the first few pages of the search results in the search engine. The SEO may however not be useful for every brand and their products. Consequently, select this internet marketing tool only if it fits the advertising goals of your brand. For an effective SEO, it may be required to take the help of the website developers. They can be useful to edit the source page of the websites as required.

The strategy As a strategy for online marketing, the SEO works as a tool to target what people search for and include those keywords in your website. So, if you have a leather company and want to optimize your website, you first have to find out the keywords that people type most for searching for a leather company.

The Pros and Cons The advantage of the SEO as an online marketing tool is that, it has a good return on investment. Without putting in any money, you can get positive results for your brand. On the flip side, an SEO cannot bring in guaranteed results and may not create any positives for the brand.

SEO MAY HOWEVER NOT BE USEFUL FOR EVERY BRAND AND THEIR PRODUCTS. CONSEQUENTLY, SELECT THIS INTERNET MARKETING TOOL ONLY IF IT FITS THE ADVERTISING GOALS OF YOUR BRAND.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING – A TOOL FOR INTERNET MARKETING By: Mario Conner

When it comes to internet marketing, arguably the most sought after source is the social media marketing. Social media has created a huge fan base for itself and any and every product is advertised through the social media today. A typical internet marketing campaign using the social media would be to create content that can attract the audiences and persuade them to ‘share it’ across their own social networks. So, simple and so cost effective! Your audiences are actually marketing your products famous for you! The funda The simple funda behind the social marketing campaign is that when users are spreading the content from their social networks, it automatically works as a trusted word of mouth. Therefore, instead of paying for the advertising, you are in fact earning from the campaign.

One back drop of the social media campaign is that if it can get positive word of mouth, it can even turn adverse and there can be a negative word of mouth spread about your product. This is where one has to be careful!

How to go about it? There are many sources for the social media marketing. You can register with the social networking sites like Face Book and Twitter. You can also upload pictures and videos with Instagram and YouTube respectively. Or just create blogs for promoting your brand. You can begin your internet marketing campaign by registering with the social networking sites. These sites and blogs will allow the followers to ‘repost’ or ‘retweet’ content about the advertised product and service. With the message being quickly spread, it acts as an electric word of mouth and you will have thousands of people knowing about your product in no time! Be careful! One back drop of the social media campaign is that if it can get positive word of mouth, it can even turn adverse and there can be a negative word of mouth spread about your product. This is where one has to be careful! Therefore, before making any false promises about your product, think twice! Just remember, social media is a wide framework. Therefore, select the most useful source!

MWM back story HOW A FORMER DENNY'S WAITRESS AMASSED AN EMPIRE OF OVER 75 DENNY'S LOCATIONS Dawn Lafreeda began working at a Denny's in California at 16, making her way from hostess to waitress. During college, she took on a second job at a software company, where she learned about accounting and managing personnel.

“When you're 23 you don't think the same way you do when you're older. You're fearless and think you can do it all. It empowered me. I was too ignorant to know any better.

In 1984, when she was 23, Lafreeda was able to merge all her skills when she had the opportunity to purchase a Denny's restaurant in the tiny mining town of Globe, Ariz. She jumped at the chance. "I knew from a young age I was going to own my own business," she says. "I always knew I was going to be self-employed."

How were you received as a young, female business owner? I didn't feel discrimination, but when I was 23 I looked like I was 12. Nobody took me seriously. I'd go to the bank for a loan, and they wouldn't believe I was the owner. I just kept forging ahead until I found people to deal with. I wouldn't let no be an answer.

“I JUST KEPT FORGING AHEAD UNTIL I FOUND PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH. I WOULDN'T LET NO BE AN ANSWER. Eighteen months later, impressed by what Lafreeda had accomplished, Denny's offered her four ailing restaurants in west Texas. It was a challenge whipping the stores into shape, but for Lafreeda the biggest hurdle was culture shock-she wasn't prepared for the area's depressed economy and arid landscape. Every week she called Denny's executives and asked them to sell her a store in the big city of San Antonio. Eventually they did, and since moving there, Lafreeda has increased her empire to 75 Denny's locations in six states, becoming the largest single-owner franchisee in the system. We got Lafreeda to tell us how she has built her empire over the past three decades.

You bought a restaurant at 23? That's pretty gutsy. When you're 23 you don't think the same way you do when you're older. You're fearless and think you can do it all. It empowered me. I was too ignorant to know any better. I remember having a moment of doubt. I told my mom, "I have 35 employees depending on me; what if I fail?" She said, "You'll just start over."

I remember a few years ago, Denny's told me a group called them looking for a female speaker. They realized they had only men on their program and contacted lots of chains to find out if they had any female multi-unit, multistate owners. We realized at that time there aren't a lot of women in multi-unit businesses.

What's the biggest change since you became a franchisee? Being open 24 hours has become more challenging. Over the last 10 or 15 years, we've faced a lot of employee issues that cause us to work harder. The way the younger generation views life and the way they work is very different than when I was in their age group. We have to recruit new employees all the time.

You have 75 units. You must never take a break. Right now, I'm doing it for the love of it. I love all aspects of the restaurant business. But I think my children--I have 10-year-old twin sons--balance me. If not for them I would work all the time! I love going to work. But I do balance it now, and I have great people and managers to help me. Still, when I'm in town I work six days a week.

Most multi-unit franchisees diversify brands. Why have you stuck with Denny's? Well, diversifying makes great sense, and opportunities come every week. But this is my 30th year with Denny's. They took a chance on me as a young kid and helped me grow. I've been fulfilled by my relationship with them. And I actually like Denny's. I was at a wedding in Florida last week and I ate at Denny's twice!

“The way the younger generation views life and the way they work is very different than when I was in their age group. We have to recruit new employees all the time.
