IN JANICE HONEYMAN’S PANTOMIME SLEEPING BEAUTY
T
heatre producer Bernard Jay is proud to announce his fifteenth collaboration with acclaimed writer/director Janice Honeyman on the annual Joburg Theatre pantomime productions. These much anticipated family entertainments have become the most popular stage shows in South Africa, each year attracting over 65,000 patrons. The evergreen tale of the beautiful princess who is cursed at her christening by the wicked fairy in Janice Honeyman’s “pantomime of your dreams”, Sleeping Beauty, will be on the stage of The Mandela at Joburg Theatre from November 7th to December 30th 2015. This will be the first time the pantomime Sleeping Beauty has been staged at Joburg Theatre since 2002.

Prince Harry Hunkador the Handsome! Janice Honeyman promises that “Our Sleeping Beauty will bring the pure magic of pantomime once again to Joburg, mixed with sheer spectacle, special effects, laughter, outrageous puns, double-entendres and the most popular of contemporary music, mixed together with some classic melodies always associated with this story. Not to mention the giant spider, the fateful spinning wheel and That Kiss!” Bernard Jay adds, “This has to be the most exciting – and certainly most romantic – cast we have ever managed to bring together for a Joburg Theatre pantomime.” After a two-year absence from the panto tradition, the most beloved of all South African panto stars, Tobie Cronjé, returns to grace the Joburg stage with his over-the-top portrayal of Dame Nora Nursey. South Africa’s newest musical theatre star, Candida Mosoma, returns to Joburg Theatre as the Good Fairy Floradora Daisy directly after her triumphant, show-stopping portrayal of Deloris Van Cartier in the smash hit musical Sister Act.
Named one of Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Sexiest Men in 2010, Sowetan Live’s sexiest in 2011 and fourth in Men’s Health Cover Guy Search in 2014, Christopher Jaftha returns to panto at Joburg Theatre as Prince Harry Hunkador the Handsome, following his triumphant success in the title role of Janice Honeyman’s 2013 Aladdin. Chris has already had a phenomenal year in 2015, being one of the Top 10 finalists in Top Billing’s on-screen Presenter Search for SABC3 and having just completed a starring role in the musical West Side Story in Cape Town. Nicole Fortuin started her career as a dancer – representing South Africa internationally on many occasions – and can be seen this year not only on stage as Chris Jaftha’s Princess Aurora-Adora in Sleeping Beauty, but also together with her same lead actor in SABC3’s new Afrikaans Drama Series Roer Jou Voete. Timothy Moloi, one of South Africa’s most prolific and popular performers, also returns to the panto this year to play the revealingly named character of Sir Poensface Ponce-aLot, following his glorious and highly-praised
South African television and theatre star Michelle Botha will play the Wicked Fairy Kakkamella Khakibos. Michelle was last seen at Joburg Theatre in her much lauded outrageous starring role as The Lady of the Lake in the musical Monty Python’s Spamalot. Join all the zany pantomime characters – including Matthew Berry as Maaikie Mouse, Dionne Song as Miemsie Mouse, L J Urbani as King Daffy Dum Doodle, Michele Levin as Queen Dolly Dum Dilly and Clive Gilson as Jester Cracker-Jack - as they battle with dragons and time machines to ensure that the prince is ready to wake the sleeping princess on time. Then watch the battle of good over evil commence as our princess is awoken from 100 years of sleep.

Providing additional style and some ‘wow moments’ in Sleeping Beauty will be nine youngsters from the Joburg sports and dance training academy Art of Motion. These hugely talented youngsters will be integrated into the panto story, using their skills in ballet, Irish, Latin American, African, Hip Hop and contemporary dance. Completing the huge all-South African cast of this year’s Joburg Theatre panto will be Daniel Fisher, Tshepo Ncokoane, Sean Louw, Keaton Ditchfield, Dale Scheepers, Bisi Bangiwe Ka Jobela, Kiruna-Lind Devar, Sarah Richard, Venolia Manale, Mary-Jane Zimri, Suzaan Helberg and Maryanne Van Eyssen. Janice Honeyman’s award-winning creative panto team of Timothy Le Roux (resident director), Graham McLusky (lighting designer) and Trevor Peters (sound designer) will be joined for the first time this year by choreographer Paul Modjadji. Paul Modjadji is currently in the top 1% of applicants from Africa to participate in President Obama’s Mandela Fellowship Programme in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Washington DC and the only dancer in the world to be appointed ambassador by two international dance organisations, the European Star Dance Union and the prestigious Dance World Cup qualifiers. Marga Sander serves as Musical Director for Sleeping Beauty with Drew Rienstra as Assistant Musical Director. Sleeping Beauty is produced by Bernard Jay for Joburg Theatre, with associate producers Simon James and Claire Pacariz, and is brought to Joburg Theatre in association with MNet, Jacaranda FM and Your Family Magazine. Over 30,000 tickets have already been sold for this year’s Joburg Theatre pantomime, with tickets for preview performances on Saturday November 7th and Sunday November 8th from R165 and for regular performances from November 13th to December 30th from R215. Alan and Krishen # TrendMen MEET ALAN & KRISHEN: They are Joburg’s fashion forward duo. They will bring you front row fashion and the latest in street style every month, keeping you updated on the hottest Jozi trends.
The Superga X Poppy Spring Summer 2015/16 Range
Y
our summer shoe wardrobe will certainly be fashionably sorted thanks to a recent release from Superga, who continued on the wonderful and well established relationship with Poppy Ntshongwana. As the beautiful face of Superga South Africa, the media darling has collaborated for a second time with the People's Shoes of Italy to bring us yet another awe-inspiring and on-trend Spring Summer range.
At the #PoppyPerSuperga launch on the 20th of October 2015, the designer/DJ/model mentioned that, this collection is primarily created compared the initial collection which was purely curated. This season's campaign was shot by the coveted Brett Rubin & styled by the sensational Candice Lee Waldman. With the A team on make-up and hair; Saadique Ryklief & Lesley Whitby. The brief was to keep the images clean & classic allowing the personality of the range as well as Poppy herself to sparkle. Simplistic styling combined with fresh make-up and hair attribute to the overall modern feel of the campaign. Do you see the magic as much as we do? Questioned regarding Superga's decision to continue the relationship with Poppy, Marketing Manager Katy Ward had the following to say: "Poppy has been with our brand for a whole season already, growing with our brand from strength to strength in ladies' fashion. Where her personal style has grown over the last 18 months, so too has Superga's. Both brands, hers and ours, follow chic, high-end,
feminine fashion and for us there was no other better fit than Poppy herself, yet again". The multi-faceted media personality's talents range from (but are not limited to) TV presenting, carving a huge name for herself as an outstanding MC, commercial club DJ and not forgetting daytime host of the hugely popular House of Poppy show on radio powerhouse 5FM. Now the media dynamo adds designer to her list of credentials, as Poppy was hugely instrumental in the design process of her range, from the first drawing to the very last stitch.
The festive season is just around the corner and your trusty #TrendMen are already on the lookout for what we think will trend in 2016. With that in mind, we were very keen to check out the hottest trends on the runway during the recent international Fashion Weeks held in New York, London, Milan and Paris. One of the major trends we noticed was the appearance of geometric pattern. We have seen geometric prints slowly develop over the past few years, from clothes utilising polka dot motifs through to bold stripes and chevrons, but for Spring/Summer 2016 we expect to see prints go beyond the ordinary. It’s going to be all about pushing the envelope and being brave. We have a strong feeling the keywords next season will be ’bold’ and ‘bright’. The secret to modernising the geometric trend is to go for large, bold patterns such as this oversized houndstooth design from Paule Ka.
Poppy's range for Superga will feature six standout styles exuding not only trend but elegance. Shoe fanatics are well catered for through this custom designed collaboration of the most popular high-fashion styles trending internationally; a true reflection of Poppy's personal style and extensive research on current trends. It is undoubtedly a flawless fusion between footwear and design. Catering to a unisex market on the larger degree. "My Spring Summer range is for fashion forward young women and men who appreciate a bit of glam and edginess. I've infused my very personal style into every shoe. There's a shoe for everyone and for every occasion. I'm a huge fan of classic fashion with a touch of personality and bright hues, and as such I've made sure that is strongly reflected in my range", says Poppy. "This collaboration differs significantly from the previous one. Not only did I get to actually design each and every shoe, the range is also a lot more mature. I have done a lot of growing over the past year, and this is definitely reflected in the styles I have gone for this time around", continues Poppy. The Superga X Poppy Spring Summer 2015/16 range will be exclusively available at Superga Concept Stores nationwide from 24 October. With Superbalist also being the exclusive online retailer for the range. H 011 608 0023 www.superga.co.za U @PoppyIsMyName
Donna Karan shows that the look can be easily updated by ditching last season’s black and white and going for bright colours.
This trend is not limited to international catwalks. Geometric patterns are the staple of the locally produced KISUA collection – available at their stores in Hyde Park Corner and Melrose Arch. T @AlanKrishen Hello Joburg • November 2015 • www.gohello.co.za

for the festive season
With the festive season around the corner it’s about that time when you need to start planning your holiday gifting. Trying to find the perfect present for your gamer brother, the niece that has everything or your tech savvy best friend can be a daunting affair. I’ve put together a list of my 5 gadget gifting ideas for the festive season which should have you covered. Here are 5 presents that will go down a hit:
Rosebank Art and Craft Market
W

hat a treat to visit the Rosebank Craft Market in their spiffy new premises. I say new, but in actual fact they have been in these premises for almost two years now. Well lit and welcoming, with over 100 traders and a vast array of crafters to cater for any trinket, big or small, that you could possibly be searching for. Open 7 days a week from 09h00 – 18h00, and until 19h00 on Friday evenings – this market is certainly not something to miss if you are in the Rosebank area. With a plethora of items to look at and touch, from masks, to jewelry, clothing and fabrics, paintings and bead work – there is certainly something for everyone, and getting to watch some of the crafters plying their trade at their stalls, makes the experience an unforgettable one. I stopped to chat to some of the owners at the stalls, and was truly blown away by not only their length of time spent on the market, but the feeling of unity and family amongst the crafters. My first stop over was with Musa from Zimbabwe. She has been on the market for 10 years, and creates the most beautiful placemats, tablecloths and cushion covers, as well as oil paintings that are without frames, making transport easy, in an ecstatic hue of colours that echo the voice of Africa that we all know and love. “We are a family here” she says ‘we help each other out, like any family.” I was drawn to the display of colorful clothing on Bebey Assamahou Ntouo’s stall. Bebey hails from Cameroon but her kaftans, pants, dresses and skirts are made from fabrics she collects all over the world on her travels, and her team of 10 tailors whip theses bolts in to her fabulous creations. My last hang out was with Alain Bolingo, also from Cameroon, who has been selling his traditional African masks on the market for 15 years. The smaller masks on stands are called passport masks, and were used when travelling across the continent to identify your tribe and village to others you may encounter on your travels, assuming you may not speak the same language. Kind of handy, and the precursor of today’s paper passports. The other masks range in size and nature from purification, to protection and identification, and I was fascinated to learn of their origins from across East and West Africa. The RED-E Power bank Extra battery juice is a must have for anyone on the go. A Power bank is the must have handbag accessory. My favourite is the RED-E 6000mAh Power bank. With a capacity of 6000mAh it can also charge a host of different smartphones and devices at the same time courtesy of built in Micro USB cable and the USB cable. It’ll set you back just under R500 and can be purchased from Cape Union Mart. BB-8 And here he is: the droid you’ve been looking for. The BB-8 toy is the gift every kid wants to unwrap this year. He is an autonomous droid that can be controlled and “trained” via a smartphone app. BB-8 learns your house set up and patrols on his own. He is also able to communicate with holograms (yes, like the movie) and will star in the new Star Wars movie that comes out later this year. He’ll cost you a cool R2899.00 from Dion Wired, the iStore or Yuppie Gadgets online. A Gold PlayStation controller Does a gamer need it? No. Does a gamer want it? Most likely. PlayStation launched their DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controllers in gold and silver earlier this year as part of their 20th Anniversary for PlayStation. The blinged up controllers are now available in South Africa for around R999. The LG G4 The LG G4 is, without a doubt, one of the best Android smartphones of 2015. If you really want to spoil someone in your life than this is the gadget to gift them with. You can choose to purchase the phone with the gorgeous leather backing and it really looks like a premium product for someone who enjoys the more expensive things in life. While it looks expensive it will only set you back R6950 at the Orange Store online. The phone’s stand out features are the incredible 16MP camera and the screen’s Quantum display. come to know and enjoy. Over the years, we have mastered the arts of mixology and have filled our cocktail menu with vibrant colours and exotic tastes. It’s no wonder we have won Cocktail Bar for the Year every year since 1999!

Chef Shaneil Dinna at Hyatt Regency Johannesburg
U
pon first meeting Executive SousChef Shaneil Dinna, he would appear rather introverted and quiet, but get this passionate man talking about creating culinary masterpieces and working with his team and mentors at The Hyatt Regency in Johannesburg, and oneNINEone Restaurant, and he literally comes alive in front of your eyes.
Trained under Prue Leith at her academy in Pretoria for a year and a half, Shaneil is the first in his family to break in to the cheffing industry. He says his love for food has been with him since he was about thirteen. “It started with baking, and just grew from there.” Shaneil uses his hands to reiterate his points, a clear sign of someone with passion coursing through their veins. “We were five kids, there was always food around” he laughs. Shaneil has been with the team at the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg for two years, and is supported by his mentor Executive Chef Andrew Atkinson, and his team of almost 40 chefs that he manages. “I could not do this without them, I don’t believe in being all in for the glamour and glitz, my team I have at the moment are the backbone of my achievements here and I would certainly not be able to do it without them.” The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg changes their menu every three months, so no repetition and chance for boredom for this team. Shaneil loves trying different flavors and flavor combinations, but still keeping food simple and tasty. Being

The Hyatt Regency in Rosebank is well known for its chef swop occasions, which sees chefs from Hyatts in other countries trading places Hello Joburg • November 2015 • www.gohello.co.za
constantly challenged and expanding is key, Shaneil points out. In today’s day and age, people are way more knowledgeable about food and their culinary experiences, and use of apps like GoHello lead to more awareness from your general foodie population. “It challenges us to stay on our toes. We have to be constantly innovating and staying ahead – and that’s the most exciting part of all.” Serving not only the oneNINEone restaurant, the Lobby Lounge and room service, the kitchen also averages about 25 functions a week, corporate and private.
Spiced Tuna Tataki, lightly seared and served with Kimchi, a Korean pickled cabbage, fresh Bokchoi and a Korean styled rice ball is currently Chef Shaneil’s favorite dish on the menu. “The flavors are just stunning, it just all works together so well” he says. I think I may need to go back to try this dish – it sounds heavenly. The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg is well known for its “chef swop” occasions, which sees chefs from Hyatt’s in other countries trading places and creating unique dishes around the host countries menus. Thus far the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg has had visiting chef ’s catering Thai, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern themed menu’s and these have been huge hits at the hotel, and Shaneil’s own chef swop saw him travelling to The Hyatt Regency Perth, Australia and creating South African dishes and educating local diners on our customs, which was a great experience for him. To Shaneil and his team, the end result is the most important of all and that is what the entire team from waitrons to chefs focusses on - and that is the experience of the client. It doesn’t matter what happens in the back of house during the evening, the team at The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg aim to make their diners experience one that is unparralled, without question.
Shaneil’s advice for young bloods breaking in to the catering industry? Spend some time getting to know what being a chef is all about, before you spend money studying. “Take an internship for a few weeks and learn more about the crazy hours and stresses”, he advises. And keep in mind that you are being watched at every job or internship you take. A master chef can spot a talent and an innate eagerness to learn and help, and that may be all it takes to springboard you on to the team at a prestigious institution like the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg. Sound advice from this passionate, yet soft spoken chef. Keep an eye on The Hyatt Regency Johannesburg for upcoming chef swops and also Kitchen Party evenings, which are open to the public and are great fun whilst learning new menus and tasting different wines. Introduces Gourmet Lunchtime Burger Menu
B
istro Michel, the popular Parisienne-styled restaurant located in the Blubird Shopping Centre (just off Corlett Drive), has added a gourmet burger option to their current lunchtime menu for those wanting a quick bite in a busy lunch hour.
The Best Cappucino in Town For all your catering requirements, pop into our deli, complete with bakery, and feast your eyes on exotic cold meats, cheeses, freshly baked bread, confectionary and other treats
Says owner and chef Michel Morand: “I realised that there are a lot of working people in the area who only have an hour or less for lunch and want to have something quick but tasty to eat, so I’ve added a range of hamburgers to do the trick. People love a good burger so we are doing everything from classic beef burger to posh patties made from lamb, chicken and quinoa.” Being a French bistro, Morand has added his own twist to this popular fast food dish. The restaurant even makes its own ketchup to serve with the pomme frittes. Apart from the classic beef burger with Emmentaler cheese, pickles and homemade barbecue sauce, other burger options on the menu include: • Vegetarian Hamburger - with quinoa, bulgur wheat, beetroot julienne and a mustard honey sauce.
Shop L50, Lower Level, Cresta Centre • 011 678 8215
• Chicken & Hawaiian Hamburger - a homemade chicken patty paired with a coconut cream disc, grilled pineapple and onion marmalade. • Karoo Hamburger - a homemade lamb patty with prunes, topped with sultanas, onion and a rum sauce. • Brie Hamburger - a homemade beef patty, crumbed mustard Brie disc and topped with a honey and onion compote. All burgers are served with a side order of chips. While Bistro Michel has established itself as a firm favourite evening dining venue, the team is keen to welcome a more casual lunchtime trade who want nothing more than a quick burger before rushing back to work or that next appointment. So the next time you fancy a burger for lunch, pop in to Bistro Michel for a burger like you’ve never tasted before. CAULI ROCK CAKES
WITH TOMATO-AVO SALSA
Serves 4 | Ready in 40 mins
RECIPE with Cara-Lisa
With Banting being all the rage in South Africa, cauliflower has certainly become the new “it “vegetable. From caul-pizza and cauli-wraps, to cauli-mash and cauli-rice, I think cauliflower has certainly proven to be a very versatile ingredient. So here is yet another amazing and delicious way to incorporate cauliflower into your daily diet. Cauliflower is absolutely wonderful for reducing and preventing inflammation, so go on eat up! Recipe Method | Preheat Oven to 180⁰C Step 1: Place cauliflower pieces in food processor and blend until fine rice like consistency forms – you may need to do one or two loads depending on the size of your food processor. Be careful not to overfill – rather do small loads at a time. Step 2: Once all cauliflower has been processed, place in the centre of a dry tea cloth. Bring edges of the tea cloth together to create a bag, then squeeze gently over kitchen sink to remove excess moisture from cauliflower. Step 3: Add cauliflower to large mixing bowl, together with remaining ingredients and stir thoroughly until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Ingredients for Cauli Rock Cakes 1 head cauliflower – cut up into small pieces 2 eggs – whisked 2 Tbsp. almond flour 1 Tbsp. coconut milk 1 green pepper – finely diced 2 large tomatoes – diced 1 Tbsp. coconut oil 1 tsp. dried oregano ½ tsp. dried thyme 1 tsp. dried rosemary ½ tsp. pink crystal salt 1 tsp. baking powder Almond flour for dusting
Step 4: Cover large baking sheet with tinfoil and lightly grease with olive/coconut oil cooking spray. Sprinkle a little almond flour over baking sheet – this will prevent sticking. Step 5: Dust hands with almond four and take small spoonfuls of mixture and use the palms of your hands to create medium sized balls. Mixture will be sticky so keep dusting hands with almond flour to prevent it from sticking to your hands. Lay each rock cake on baking sheet. Step 6: Place rock cakes in oven and bake for 20 minutes at 180⁰C until golden brown. Once cooked through, remove from oven and set aside. Step 7: Prepare tomato-avo dip Place all in ingredients for salsa in food processor and blend thoroughly for 1-2 mins until thick salsa forms. Remove from blender and add to serving dish.

We cannot stop time, nor can we reverse it, but TransGenesisTM crème can make your skin look and feel like we can. When we think of healthy and youthful skin, terms that come to mind are: smooth, soft, supple, plump and radiant. Unfortunately, as your body begins to age, your biologic skin functions slow down or become abnormal, leaving you with wrinkled, dry, thin and dull looking skin. TransGenesisTM crème is packed with ingredients that will kick-start your skin, helping it function like it did years ago, transcending time and giving you a new beginning.
• Red Caviar Enzymes from the cold fjords of Norway deliver smoother, more refined texture. • Glycosaminoglycans pull and lock water into the surface layers of your skin, reducing fine lines. • Tripeptides and Oligopeptides stimulate fibroblast cells and collagen production. • Filligrin Modulators help restore skin barrier functions, reducing TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss). • Keeps your skin looking healthier for longer. • Improved NMF (natural moisturizing factor). • Natural anti-inflammatory and immune boosting agents.

The lowdown on laser hair removal
W
ith the weather heating up and beach season fast approaching, unwanted hair is a big concern for most of my patients. Hair removal is nasty work and patients are more frequently binning blunt razors and foul smelling removal creams and turning to more permanent options. It is no wonder shaving has become increasingly unpopular due to sore and unsightly ingrown hairs, not to mention razor burn and inevitable nicks and cuts. While waxing as an alternative is still immediate in its effect, it requires significant regrowth to be efficient and is thus an inconvenience to have to hide the hairy bits when the temperatures rise. Additionally, these abrasive techniques are also damaging your skin. Hair removal treatments are usually performed by means of a dual Alexandrite/ND:YAG laser or by IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). Both treatments produce energy in order to disrupt the growth element of each hair follicle to reduce hair growth. The difference between the two methods is that IPL uses a light based device to destroy the follicle rather than a laser. The light based approach is more diffuse and therefore less powerful. It is also limited to
fairer skin types and can damage darker skins while laser hair removal devices can be carefully tuned and adjusted to suit all skin types and colours. I prefer to use a Dual Laser using either Alexandrite or Nd:Yag. These lasers are far more precise and can selectively target hair with no damage to the dermis in surrounding areas. These lasers are also much safer on darker skin types. While there is some moderate pain when it comes to laser hair removal, the benefits far outweigh the discomfort. The treated area is slightly red for a couple of hours but the hair can take up to 6 weeks to grow back and growth is reduced with each treatment. A cooling balm can be applied to the area to soothe the skin and direct sunlight should be avoided. For optimal results it is recommended to repeat the treatment at 4-6 week intervals (based on regrowth) in about 4-8 sessions. Although laser treatments with these devices will permanently reduce the total number of body hairs, I would suggest returning every couple of months after your course for a “touch up” treatment to ensure prolonged results. Be kind to your skin this summer. There is no reason to be fighting itching, bumps and cuts when smooth hairless skin’s a just a zap away. H

SAB WORLD OF BEER The World of Beer came into being in 1995, an iconic year in South Africa’s history. Awards Ceremony on 31 August 2015, the Johannesburg Expo Centre (JEC) is officially recognised as one of the top Exhibitions and Events venues in South Africa. This comes as no surprise when one considers that for the past 30 years, the JEC has been consistently delivering events of a world-class standard. “We take great pride in knowing that we can cater to the varied needs of our clients,” explains JEC CEO Craig Newman. “We have a diverse portfolio of clients gracing our halls each year and our main objective is to deliver an experience that has them returning for the next event. The greatest compliment is when a satisfied customer wishes to work with us again.” “Our event took place seamlessly and the team at JEC was an absolute pleasure to work with,” says Bibi Burness, organiser for the South African Breweries Extravaganza. “It’s a well-designed, world-class venue that is perfectly suited to hosting large crowds of people. We won’t hesitate to return.” “We were delighted to introduce China Sourcing Fairs to the Expo Centre,” says organiser Wendy Lai. “It was the ideal venue for this unique brand, not only meeting all of our requirements but those of our exhibitors and visitors as well. It makes all the difference when you know that your event is in capable hands.” The JEC has been chosen to host Ultra South Africa for the third time next year after two highly successful previous shows. “The inaugural festival provided timeless memories and in February 2015, we were able to raise the bar even higher with the help of a very professional venue and team,” says Russell Faibisch, Founder, Producer and CEO of Ultra Music Festival and Ultra Worldwide. “We plan to grow the event in this country for many years to come so that Ultra South Africa becomes a destination festival. There may not be a more fitting location for Ultra in South Africa than the JEC.” Unlike any other venue, the Expo Centre has
the capacity, expertise, experience, resources and strategic partnerships to host an event of any description. “The versatility, proximity and convenience of the JEC is what has us returning time and again,” says Christo Visser, Operations and Logistics Manager for Polyoak Packaging. “It continues to be one of our favourite facilities to use for warehousing.”

Jaguar F-TYPE R AWD The TYPE of fun that is ridiculous to beat This car is jaw dropping in its beauty. It is sexy. It is supremely fast. It is outstanding in every regard - it is the ultimate toy for someone who loves cars. Judging by the admiring glances the F-TYPE received while driving it – there would be a long line of customers – even those who aren’t that mad for cars. Everything about this supercar feels exotic: from its looks, to its interior, but particularly the sound it produces - truly the Jaguar’s growl. Being a sports car - it is quick, perhaps quicker and louder than you’d think. The F-TYPE range begins with a 3.0l supercharged V6. There is an even faster S model with the same engine that’s modified to push out a further 30kW of power - this is arguably the favourite model in the range. The flagship F-TYPE is offered in a 5.0l supercharged V8, badged an “R”, which is ridiculously fast -
0 to 100 in an eye blinking 4.1 seconds. Thankfully this version can be specified with an all-wheel drive system, planting the 405kW of power onto the tarmac with decorum, unlike the rear wheel version which is the wild child in the family. Driving an F-TYPE is a sensory experience: it’s hard not to awaken all five of your senses. Forget your cup of coffee in the morning – press the pulsating ignition button and the loud snarl from the bi-twin exhausts shocks you into alert mode – caffeine has nowhere near the kick that the F-TYPE R has. Driving around town you feel special – you smile and your ego inflates with a double drop of helium. What this car costs, will be made up for in the saving to see any therapist – as its effect is more potent than any happy pill. Obviously being a car of its stature it comes standard with every bell and whistle – it should, it is expensive - the F-TYPE R AWD costing R1 745 000, but is it? It looks like an Aston Martin and is as quick as a Ferrari, both of which cost at least double the price.
Range Rover SPORT 3.0 SDV6 SE Range Rover – sounds grand doesn’t it? But driving a Range Rover in a sporting fashion is like eating a Michelin star meal with haste; somewhat of a waste. Well, not unless it is a Range Rover Sport, which is better savoured through a variety of moods and driving styles – it’s the cherry on top of the double rich cake of decadence. Now that I’ve got your mouth watering, I’d like to tell you why the 3.0 turbocharged diesel SE Range Rover Sport is the pièce de résistance in the range, and my personal favourite. It’s an all-rounder: powerful but frugal (under 10 l in and around town), brisk without being raucous (0-100km/h in 7.2 sec) and well equipped without being technologically laden with unnecessary bells and whistles. It’s well priced within its range, though unfortunately not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, at R1 170 000.00

Driving a Range Rover is a sign of power – it’s an ego trip for the driver but for good reason. The Sport, an SUV, is large while remaining sexy; therefore devilishly attractive and not everyone can afford to own one – making it a status symbol. It’s arguably the most attractive premium SUV on the market, but looks aside, it’s fundamentally a Land Rover which means it is able to go anywhere. Its large list of capabilities are an essential part of its character. Though, 99% of Sport drivers won’t be going anywhere other than well-heeled boulevards and enjoying its ability to elevate its ride height via its air suspension – mounting the pavement.
giving its driver and passengers a birds eye view of the road, making you feel in command. Its design and lead engineering make the drivers of the Sport feel secure, knowing that it is more than safe but can also reliably take you through almost all road conditions.
The Sport’s, every day highlight is the way it makes its driver feel. It does this via an outstanding ride: smooth, quiet, agile, responsive, comfortable; all while

Renault CAPTUR Fashion or fashionable things are cool – while they’re in. Crossover type vehicles are most certainly in vogue at the moment: sitting high and mighty, having loads of versatile packing space and good ground clearance to mind potholes, all of which are more than enough reason to be fashionable. The new Renault Captur is a compact city crossover - adorned with eye catching good looks and endowed with a host of technologically advanced features. This French Swiss army knife of crossovers offers: cruise control with a speed limiter, automatic headlight and windscreen wiper blade operation, keyless entry, Start Stop technology, a navigation system and Bluetooth connection - for hands free telephony and music play back via your smart phone. The system runs through the LG touchscreen infotainment which sits in the centre of the dashboard. These are but only a few of the Captur features fitted to the entry level Expression model that retails for R220K – its outstanding value and therefore my pick of the Captur range. The Captur is fitted with an 898cc 3 cylinder engine – tiny little unit, although boosted by a turbo charger offering a respectable 66kW’s. Renault have used the same technology to create their F1 racing car engine. But don’t get any funny ideas – thinking you’ll be able to outpace the latest sports car is but a fantasy. In
reality the Captur darts at a leisurely pace, hitting 100 km/h from 0 mark in 13 seconds and peters out at 171 km/h as its top speed. It’s a jolly car: happy to be driven as a city commuter – transporting mom, dad and three kids, it’s frugal, quiet, reasonably comfy, and easy to park and packed with loads of nice-to-have features. It’s not perfect – its suspension system reminded me of a cheap bounce bed. Bounce to hard and you land on the floor. Some of the plastics are as hard as your lunch box Tupperware too. But forgetting all this – it’s a hard to beat package.
All-New Ford Everest Delivers Unparalleled Design, Comfort and Versatility The all-new Ford Everest stands apart with a bold, sculptural design that communicates its impressive capabilities and advanced smart features. The distinctive, robust front end boasts Ford’s trademark trapezoidal grille flanked by an attractive headlight design with signature LED daytime running lights (on the Everest Limited) and wide stance, thus imparting Ford’s new SUV with a powerful presence on the road. The chiselled and technical design is also highly efficient, as a result of extensive aerodynamic testing that led to a design that seamlessly combines form and function. Interior features balance ride comfort with ultimate practicality, including the likes of an optional dual-panel moon roof and a powered liftgate on the top-spec derivative. This is complemented by more than 30 cleverly designed stowage spaces totalling 48 litres, multiple power outlets and flexible seating and cargo arrangements – including fold-flat second and third-row seating (the latter incorporating a power-fold function on the Limited). It is also capable of accommodating large loads with ease, offering 1050 litres of packing space with the second-row seats in place, and extending to an impressive 2010 litres with both second and third row seats folded flat. To ensure exceptional cabin quietness, Ford equipped the all-new Everest with Active Noise Cancellation technology in addition to optimizing cabin sealing and sound absorbing materials throughout the vehicle.
Similar to the systems used in noise-cancelling headphones, Active Noise Cancellation uses three strategically placed microphones inside the cabin to detect and measure sounds. A smart control module instantaneously generates opposing sound waves, which are then fed through the Everest’s audio system to cancel out unpleasant noises. The result is a quiet interior that lets the driver comfortably speak with third row passengers without shouting.
“With its safe and smart features, a refined interior and outstanding on-road and off-road capabilities, the all-new Ford Everest sets new standards in the medium SUV segment and represents a compelling addition to our SUV line-up,” said Delate. “Taking advantage of our global design and development expertise, and our proud heritage in the utility segment, we’ve created a vehicle that goes far beyond customer expectations.” Hello Joburg • November 2015 • www.gohello.co.za

home&decor MIELE What a dish
I
nvesting in a dishwasher can be a real game changer – you no longer have to be super selective about what you choose to use in the kitchen, and entertaining at home is a synch. No more wasted time spent laboriously cleaning up afterwards – simply let the dishwasher do it all for you. Liam Gawne from leading premium kitchen appliance manufacture, Miele, says: “Nobody can argue the value of owning a dishwasher – due to its supreme convenience and time-saving functionality, it is one of the few appliances that will never be a grudge purchase. “Today, the dishwasher is a common must-have appliance in most modern home, and with the latest technology available technology, they don’t need to be energy- and water-guzzling appliances either. Today’s high-end dishwashers are so energy- and water-friendly, that they can actually help you save money on your utility bills. Miele’s dishwashers for example, boast an impressive A+++ energy rating, and use a mere 6,5-litres of water per cycle,” he explains. Having said that however, he says that for optimum performance, it is essential that users have a good
idea on how to pack their dishwasher in order to maximize performance. How to pack your dishwasher Are you packing your dishwasher incorrectly? Liam says that different stains require different treatment: “If you understand the stain, you can pack your dishes accordingly for optimum stain removal. For example, carbohydrate-based stains, such as potato and tomato, need the full force of the water jets to get clean, while protein-based foods, such as dried egg yolk and custard for example, requires more contact with chemical detergent.” Dishwashers operate using jets of water that get dispersed at high speed via a dishwasher’s arms, however, although the entire interior of a dishwasher will get wet during a cycle, it will not necessarily clean everything in the same way. Says Liam: “This explains why, in some cases, a particularly stubborn piece of burnt food can be washed off in a wash cycle, while lighter stains remain.” As such, he recommends that you pack those dishes with stubborn carbohydrate-based stains in closest proximity to the rotating arms to ensure that they get hit by the fastest moving jets of water. This would be at the centre of the bottom and the top racks. For protein-based stains, the areas located at the sides or edges of the dishwasher racks are best suited, as water travels slower in these areas, and as such, the dishes placed here get more intense contact with dishwasher detergent, which is needed to remove these types of stains.
Liam provides a list of items that shouldn’t be cleaned in a dishwasher: Cast Iron: Cast iron skillets or pans should not be cleaned in a dishwasher. For best results, you need to rinse it with hot water immediately after cooking. Then remove any burnt food, dry and scrub it with a mild abrasive, such as coarse salt for example. Good knives: Any expensive cooking knife should only be washed by hand, as they will dull quickly if washed in a cutlery basket in a dishwasher. To combat this however, Miele’s dishwashers have a 3D cutlery tray, where sharp knives can be stored individually so that they do not knock against one another, leading to them getting blunt before their time. Crystal: The majority of dishwashers can’t handle very delicate crystal, as dishwasher detergent and the heat generated inside a dishwasher can cause the crystal to chip and crack. However, some high-end dishwashers, such as Miele’s for example, allow for high-quality delicate stemware to be washed with no risk. Disposable aluminum: If you clean disposable aluminium in your dishwasher, it will lose its shine, become dull and turn a black-ish colour. You also run the risk of getting black residue marks on all the other items in the dishwasher. Gold- or silver-plated dishware: Cleaning your gold- or silver-plated cutlery in your dishwasher will lead to the gold plating wearing off over time. It is a far better option to simply rinse these in hot water and gently clean them by hand. H www.miele.co.za

Hot accessories from Coricraft this season N
o matter what your decor style, Coricraft has endless accessories for you this summer − as it launches multiple themes over the season with one goal in mind: inspiration. You’ll be under the spell of spring with the romantic and whimsical collection of elegant candelabra’s and cake stands, scatters in muted florals, lattice photo frames, trays and trinkets. Time will stand still with the imported collection of classic and contemporary clocks, in all shapes and sizes, and you’ll be enchanted with mirrors, lamps and other interesting decor pieces, that will all add a touch of shabby chic to any home. “Summer is all about the holidays and we’ve also included a more masculine selection of smalls to the collection, inspired by nature’s colours of the blue oceans, and that keeps comfort and coastal inspired interior design in mind,” explains Coricraft’s Accessory Buyer, Elmarie Stegmann. Whether you live at the coast, or a little more inland in the country, it will bring the look and feel of summer right into your home. The colour palette is all about neutrals with pops of nautical blue and red and stripes and botanical green. This season at Coricraft, accessories make the most of the outdoors in the most practical way. There are wicker baskets and bamboo ladders for swimming towels, lanterns and candle holders for sundowners on the stoep, wooden games for the family to enjoy - even ‘globes of the world and magnifying glasses to bring a touch of adventure and exploration to your home. A must for a holiday home, but also subtle enough to add interest in a city abode. The good news is, if you like to change your décor as the date ticks over from one month to the next, then Coricraft is your one-stop-shop. The thinking from the Coricraft team over the rest of 2015 is to launch two to four different themes over the summer season that speak to different moods and looks – alternating between masculine and feminine to keep things fresh and fabulous. The flag means different things to different people. According to the flag’s designer, the red symbolizes the blood that was shed during the various wars and conflicts in the country. It is also suggested that the blue represents the sky and the two oceans that flank the country. The green symbolises the farms and the rich, natural environment of the country, while the yellow represents the natural resources, particularly gold. Finally, it is said that the black represents black South Africans, while the white represents the white population of the country. Source: www.southafrica.org.za
