Glass Mind Theatre's "And Underneath The Moon" Program (Print)

Director’s Note

As I entered my late 20’s, I suddenly realized how much pressure there is to find the “right one” and settle down to create the perfect family unit. Well what if that unit isn’t so perfect? Or how do you cope when things are so close to perfect that they feel like they are going to crumble any second? Olivia and Josh struggle with being so close to their idea of being the perfect family, yet it’s not quite there. There is something missing. Moon is more than just your typical family drama, it’s an exploration of the most natural desires in the world - to partner up and start a family. The world’s ideas of what makes a family unit is changing, yet buried deep within our culture is the urge to live up to the 1950’s picturesque version of the nuclear family. How do we maintain a sense of what we want and balance that with outside expectations? We live in times of dichotomy, dual-natured if you will, yet we always must be true to what we want. What will we do to the ones we love, and ourselves, to get what we want?

About The Playwright Sarah Ford Gorman

Sarah is the Associate Artistic Director of Glass Mind Theatre and is beyond proud and humbled by this production. Over the past two seasons she has assisted on almost every GMT production, including her most recent endeavor as Maggie in Den of Thieves. GMT premiered her work “Sting” in Brainstorm Vol. 2: Baltimore’s Mixtape, and you can catch her choreography and her own slick moves in our next work: Adapting Cinderella. She would love to thank personally every single audience member, so catch her around sometime.

The performance will be approx. one hour. After viewing, we encourage you to give us some feedback or start up a discussion! Either stick around and chat with us about the piece, or get on Twitter and use #GMTMoon and #newplay to discuss with a national theatre audience! CAST

Contributions to Glass Mind may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. This year, Glass Mind will raise its annual budget by $5,000. As a young company, our goal is to start progressively (and responsibly) elevating the quality of our production elements that will allow us to take bolder artistic risks. This includes being able to invest in technology to help us explore new ways to tell stories in a live format. We also value the commitment of the artists who dedicate their personal time to GMT and want to support programming that allows us to collaborate with them regularly. We feel these are ambitious goals and hope you will support us for our second year of work. We’d like to give special thanks to those who have already helped us towards $ 5,000 by the end of the year, including:

Gregory Jericho

Alix Fenhagen

Alix Fenhagen Olivia

This Fall Alix acted in Anna Bella Eema at Strand Theater. Before moving to Baltimore this August she spent the past three years as part of New York’s Subjective Theatre Company’s CoLab, with whom she collaboratively wrote and performed three original plays. Alix has performed in numerous off-off Broadway productions in roles ranging from a dancing, singing blue dog, to Ismene in Seamus Heaney’s adaptation of Antigone. She studied at the École de Jacques Lecoq in Paris and is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Gregory Jericho Max

Gregory Jericho was last seen onstage almost a year ago as Biff in the Vagabond Players production of “Death of a Salesman”. Ever since then he has been insisting to everyone that he wasn’t acting anymore. He needed to study. He wanted to write a graphic novel. Most lamely, he said he just didn’t have any time. Ha ha. Greg is silly: no one leaves Baltimore theater unless we say so.

Caroline C. Kiebach Emily

Caroline C. Kiebach is a Native New Jerseyan who studied at Kean University for Theatre and N.Y.U for Film/T.V. Baltimore appearances include: “Ronnie” A Peppermint Patty Christmas, “Abby” FREAK both at the Strand Theatre. New York City appearances include: “Clara” Queen Elizabeth of Factory Fifteen, the off Broadway show The Best Party Ever, & Independent Film Autumn Mixtape. She is incredibly grateful to have met and worked with Lynn, along with the rest of The Glass Mind Theatre Company and most importantly her cast. :)

Andrew J. Porter Joshua

Andrew J. Porter is a recent graduate of U.M.B.C.’s Theater Department with a B.A. This is his first production with Glass Mind Theater. Andrew looks forward to working again in the Spring with GMT for their production of Adapting Cinderella (as Sound Designer) and is very grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented and committed collective of artists.

Lynn Morton Director

Lynn is Managing Director of Glass Mind Theatre and previously directed Effect of Songs in last spring’s Brainstorm Festival for GMT. She earned her B.F.A in Theatre - Directing at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Baltimore credits include: Sex & Desperation: A Little Something for Everyone, Hammarskjold and Watch: A Haunting (Director) Cloud Nine, and Helena Troy (Stage Manager). Some Seattle credits include: AD for Rounding Third at Intiman, Sweet Eros by Terrence McNally and Miss Tessman in Hedda Gabler. Lynn would like to thank the cast & crew for stepping up and bringing everything they had to this process, as well as the Company for their never ending support.

Alexander Scally Stage Manager

Alexander is a founding member and Glass Mind Theatre’s Production Manager. Past GMT directing credits include Rich Espey’s ‘Catch of the Day’ for Brainstorm, Vol. 1 and Please Flag With Care. Performance credits include Antarctica (White Bear/Various), Brainstorm, Vol. 2: Baltimore Mixtape (Various), and Den Of Thieves (Little Tuna). Alexander also produces/hosts GMT’s artist-feature web series, The Looking Glass.

Jessica Ruth Baker Costume Design

This is the third time Jessica has worked with Glass Mind Theatre; she played Fugu in Rich Espey’s Catch of the Day in the inaugural Brainstorm, and she built the set and the iconic polar bear costume for Antarctica. She is currently in her fifth and final year at UMBC receiving a BFA in Acting and a BA in Scenic and Costume Design. Recently she designed sets and costumes for She Stoops to Conquer at Mobtown Theatre, and was the Makeup Head for and the Courtezan in A Comedy of Errors at the Reisterstown Theatre Project. Also, she is a teaching artist with the InterAct Story Theatre in Silver Spring, teaching elementary school children reading comprehension through the power of theatre. She hopes to continue this beautiful relationship with Glass Mind, and to support all of the amazing theatre happening in Baltimore!

Michelle Datz Scenic Design

Michelle Datz is an artist and art teacher in Baltimore. Michelle holds her BA in Studio Art from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. In recent years Michelle has worked on numerous productions as a set designer, scenic artist, and occasionally as a stage manager. Credits include work at Spotlighters Theatre, Mobtown Theatre, Pumpkin Theatre, Baltimore Playwrights Festival, and Baltimore Opera Company, among others.

Justin Johnson Illustrations

This is Justin’s second show with Glass Mind after performing in the company’s first show, Please Flag with Care last year. Justin is an actor, designer, illustrator, and hopeful voice actor serving the theatre communities of Baltimore, Frederick, and Columbia. He couldn’t be any happier combining his two great loves of theatre and visual art together in this amazing show! Many thanks to Lynn, Andrew, and the rest of the GMT crew for having him on board!

Dave K. Sound Design

Dave K. is a Baltimore-based writer and artist whose previous sound design credits include Joe Dennison’s Muldoon and Kimberley Lynne’s Fat Club. Dave currently runs tech for Spotlight UB, the University of Baltimore’s performing arts series, while finishing up an MFA program in writing and graphic design.
