“This new abstract work takes its inspiration from The Go-Between , a novel by L.P Hartley published in 1953, his best-known work. The book gives a critical view of society through the eyes of a naive schoolboy outsider. I took key ideas from the book to build the structure of the ballet, which is made up of five movements.”

This work explores feminine introspection. Inspired by Chopin's music, the choreographer uses body movement to lead the audience to experience a sense of calm and tranquility. Chopin was deeply in love with a female classmate in music school when he composed this piece of music, and the unrequited love ended in vain. The music is gentle, lingering and full of anticipation, as sorrow and solitude flows between the dancers.
編舞受蕭邦音樂的啟發，用舞蹈引領觀眾感受 旋律中那種沖淡平和、寂靜幽瀾的特點，探討 女性的內心世界。相傳，蕭邦在譜寫這個作品 的時候，正單戀音樂學院的女同學，而這段單相 思無疾而終。音樂輕緩得讓人充滿期待，卻又 戀戀不捨，肢體舞動間輕透著一點點沉思。

“ Knife’s Edge , at its core, is about the expression and expansion of the classical ballet language. The ballet explores the full extent of classical ballet technique while finding new approaches to steps we already know. Movements, positions, and rules are either followed or broken; steps are stretched and expanded. Simplistic and minimal, the music acts as a guidance, dictating time and movement. The piece is broken into four variations or movements, each using the same musical elements but arranged in different patterns and importance. Through the music, precision and execution are brought to the forefront creating new boundaries and exploring what one can discover.”

ABT Studio Company, the junior company of American Ballet Theatre, is currently made up of 12 rising stars of the ballet world between the ages of 16 and 21. ABT Studio Company prepares these outstanding young dancers, who hail from all over the globe, to enter American Ballet Theatre or other leading ballet companies worldwide. 80% of current dancers in American Ballet Theatre are alumni of ABT Studio Company, including 14 Principal Dancers and 8 Soloists.
ABT Studio Company serves as an ambassador for American Ballet Theatre by engaging with communities in a range of venues worldwide. The dancers perform masterworks of the classical and neoclassical canons, alongside contemporary and newly created works. Each season, ABT Studio Company commissions new ballets from emerging and/or established choreographers, with a special focus on female choreographers.

Sascha Radetsky joined American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in 1995 and ABT’s corps de ballet in 1996. He was promoted to Soloist in 2003 and retired from the Company in 2014. In 2008, Radetsky joined the Dutch National Ballet as a Principal Dancer. Radetsky performed as a guest Principal with companies such as the Berlin Staatsballett, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Ballet do Theatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro.
Radetsky has danced works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Fredrick Ashton, Michel Fokine, Mark Morris, Paul Taylor, Lar Lubovitch, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, Stanton Welch, William Forsythe, Benjamin Millepied, Kenneth MacMillan, Twyla Tharp, Jose Limón, Harald Lander, Antony Tudor, John Cranko, Agnes de Mille, Jerome Robbins, Ann Reinking, Jorma Elo, Hans Van Manen, Jiří Kylián, John Neumeier, and many more. He has created roles in ballets by Tharp, Morris, Welch, Elo, Millepied, Wheeldon, Gomes, and Ratmansky.
Radetsky was appointed Artistic Director of American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in 2018 following a tenure as Director of the ABT/NYU Masters in Ballet Pedagogy Program. He teaches regularly for ABT’s main Company and the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and has taught for institutions such as The Royal Ballet School of London, The Prix de Lausanne, the School of American Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Hong Kong Ballet, and the Youth America Grand Prix. He has choreographed for The Juilliard School, Bucknell University, and Under Armour athletic wear. He has written for Vogue, Playbill, Dance Magazine, Pointe, Dance Spirit, and the programs of the Paris Opera Ballet and The Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Radetsky starred in the feature film Center Stage and the TV movie Center Stage 3: On Pointe, in Mandy Moore’s music video I Wanna Be With You, in the Starz television series Flesh and Bone, and in the Hallmark Channel's A Nutcracker Christmas

繼擔任美國芭蕾舞劇院／紐約大學芭 蕾舞教育學碩士的項目總監後，雷德 斯基於 2018 年獲委任為美國芭蕾舞 劇院工作室舞團的藝術總監。除了定 期在美國芭蕾舞劇院及其轄下的賈 桂琳．甘迺迪．歐納西斯學校任教之 外，雷德斯基亦曾為倫敦皇家芭蕾舞 學校、洛桑芭蕾舞學院、美國芭蕾舞 學院、哈林舞蹈劇場、香港芭蕾舞團 和美國國際青少年芭蕾舞大獎賽教 授課程。他曾為茱莉亞音樂學院、巴 克內爾大學，還有 Under Armour 運動服裝的廣告編舞。此外，他亦曾 為《 Vogue 》、《Playbill 》、《Dance Magazine 》、《 Pointe 》、《 Dance Spirit 》等雜誌，以及巴黎歌劇院芭 蕾舞團和新西蘭皇家芭蕾舞團的節 目撰稿。

One of Asia’s premier ballet companies, Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is internationally recognised as a worldclass institution which represents Hong Kong’s unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forward-thinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence. Septime Webre joined HKB as its Artistic Director in July 2017.
With nearly 50 dancers from all over the globe –Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and throughout North America – HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally. HKB’s repertoire includes celebrated re-stagings of the classics, neo-classical masterworks by George Balanchine, original full-lengths created for HKB and an award-winning series of ballets for young audiences. In addition, HKB performs works by some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Justin Peck, Jiři Kylian, Nacho Duato, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as dynamic new works by HKB’s Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky, Yuh Egami, as well as numerous emerging Hong Kong choreographers.
With almost 50 tours to 11 countries, HKB most recently toured throughout Europe, Mainland China and the US, at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and in New York at the Joyce Theatre, New York City Center and the renowned Fall for Dance Festival. In addition to its performances on stage at home and abroad, HKB maintains a full schedule of community engagement initiatives throughout Hong Kong to ensure the art of ballet is accessible to all. Since its debut in 2020, the HKBALLET@HOME online channel has garnered over 2 million views, connecting with ballet lovers across the globe.
香港芭蕾舞團（舞團）是亞洲最優 秀的芭蕾舞團之一，以展現香港獨 有魅力躋身國際舞壇，聲譽與日俱 增。舞團自1979 年以來不斷演變， 現已發展成為一個朝氣蓬勃的藝 術團體，擁有豐富的劇目及具前 瞻性的社區拓展計劃，精益求精。 衛承天先生於 2017 年 7 月起擔任 舞團的藝術總監。

衛承天 ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, HONG KONG BALLET 香港芭蕾舞團藝術總監
Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US for six years. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation standing at the intersection of creativity and social impact.
Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet ushered in a period of unprecedented growth in the quality and breadth of its work—both onstage and in its engagement and educational initiatives, with its annual budget growing over 500% during that time. In Hong Kong, Webre recently staged a pair of new productions for HKB: a Romeo + Juliet set in the early 1960’s Hong Kong, and The Nutcracker set in Hong Kong in the early 20 th century. In addition, he has staged a number of additional productions for HKB, including new productions of Giselle , ALICE (in wonderland) , The Great Gatsby and Peter Pan
As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.
衛承天是國際著名芭蕾舞團總 監、編舞家、教育家及倡導者。他 曾出任華盛頓芭蕾舞團藝術總監 達 17 年，亦曾任美國新澤西普林斯 頓美國劇目芭蕾舞團藝術總監，並 於 2017 年 7月加入香港芭蕾舞團擔 任藝術總監。他曾是美國華盛頓一 基金會 Halcyon 的藝術總監，其宗 旨為透過創意影響社會。
衛承天在任華盛頓芭蕾舞團期間， 舞團預算大增 500%，並在舞台製 作的規模和質素、專業舞蹈教學等 多個範疇上獲得前所未有的提升。 他近年為香港芭蕾舞團全新創作 包括：以 1960 年代香港作背景的 《羅密歐+茱麗葉》和以 20 世紀 初香港作背景的《胡桃夾子》。衛 承天亦曾為香港芭蕾舞團製作《吉 賽爾》、《愛麗絲夢遊仙境》、《大亨 小傳》和《小飛俠》等多個劇目。

胡頌威 CHOREOGRAPHER-IN-RESIDENCE 駐團編舞家
Born in Jiangxi, China, Hu Song Wei Ricky trained at Shanghai Dance School, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as a Corps de Ballet member in 2008, was named Coryphée in 2015 and appointed Choreographer-inResidence in 2019.
His choreographic works with HKB include The Lost Season (2022), excerpts from Between the Emotion and the Response (2019), Voicing (2011) and Twins (2010); with Yuh Egami, Demons (2017), Carmen (2017), Horn (2014) and White Lies (2012); The Frog Prince–A Ballet Chinois (2013) as Associate Choreographer to Yuri Ng with Egami. His other commissioned choreographic works include Everlasting Flower (2021) for College of Dance, Shanghai Theatre Academy, The Eighth Story (2021) for Liaoning Ballet, The Wall (2019) for Shanghai Opera House Dance Ensemble, Skyfall (2018) for Shanghai Dance Theatre, Mirage for China Shanghai International Arts Festival 2018, Rush (2013) and Play with Abandon (2012) for Hong Kong Arts Festival, Blank Space (2013) at the invitation of Re: Dance Theatre (RDT) in Singapore, and Lost in Memory (2013) for D. Lab Dance Shanghai.
Hu’s Everlasting Flower (2021) won the Outstanding Award at the 6 th Shanghai New Dancer and New Works Exhibitions, The Rite of Spring (2019), co-choreographed with Egami, won Outstanding Choreography at the 2020 Hong Kong Dance Awards, and HKB won Outstanding Ensemble Performance at the 2016 Hong Kong Dance Awards for Hu and Egami’s Bolero (2015). He received the Award for Young Artist in Dance at the 2012 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards.
胡頌威生於江西，於上海戲劇學 院附屬舞蹈學校、新加坡拉薩爾 新航藝術學院及香港演藝學院受 訓，2008 年加入香港芭蕾舞團擔 任群舞員，2015 年獲晉升為群舞領 舞員，2019 年成為駐團編舞家。
