DC-Area Club Returns To The Fold

The Capital District entry is back in the Major Showcase after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic in 2020. This squad looks to be a tough out here at HNIB.

Returning as head coach for Capital District is Ben Hammock from Apex Athletic..

The team’s offense will feature a pair of forwards coming from the Howard Huskies U16 program in Noah Ekman and Perry Wolcott. Eckman, a junior and Wolcott, a senior, both hail from the state of Maryland.

Post-grad Jacob Lorenzen will be a driving force; he is off to a season with the New Jersey Hitmen Premier in the USPHL.

Another Howard Huskies product from last season is Alexander Wegner, a senior from Hunt Valley, MD.

Senior Sean Metzger will be a force; he is a product of both the Howard Huskies and the Calvert Hill College HS program. Junior Peter Mood is coming off a solid campaign with the Delco Phantoms. Post-grad Caleb Baker, a Michigan native, is with the Elite Brigade Hockey program for the upcoming season after playing at Fenton HS. A youngster to watch is sophomore Max Rutkowski, a Virginia resident ready for another big year with the Esmark Stars U16 program.

Junior John Rodgers, out of Cleveland’sSt.IgnatiusHSprogram,will be a vital piece of the offensive puzzle. Senior Brayson Barrett comes a from Indiana, where he skated for the Indy Fuel U16AAAclub last winter.

Players from five different states make up coach Hammock’s defensive crew.

Post-grad John Rempe was with the New HampshireAvalanche U18 program this past winter and undecided about this winter’s club. Junior Jake Stanley hails from North Carolina and readies for a busy winter with the Jr. Hurricanes.

Senior Casey Freeman brings his defensive prowess from the Garden State’shighschoolranksandtheprogram at Rumson Fair Haven HS. Junior Ryan Christiano is a presence on the blue and is a key member of the Reston Raiders select program.

Keep an eye on Jack Sullivan, a senior coming out of the CapitalsAcademy program. Senior defenseman Devin McDaniel calls Ann Arbor, MI home, where he patrols the blue line for theAnn Arbor Pioneers HS varsity.

Senior Trey Mattern, had a great year this past winter with the Philadelphia Little Flyers EHLP program and should give Capital District solid work in goal, as should fellow senior Connor Murphy, who plays in-season with the Capitals Academy.
