Hutchinson signs middle-income tax cut bill ¡Hola! Arkansas Little Rock, AR Governor Asa Hutchinson signed his promised tax cut package into law on last Friday morning with a bipartisan group of dozens of legislators in attendance.

It caps quite a week for the governor, in which the two biggest pieces of legislation the session is likely to see the tax bill and the private option, were approved by the General Assembly by wide margins and sent to his desk.

When you bought your insurance, if you chose to have advance payments of the premium tax credit, the Marketplace estimated the amount based on information you provided about your expected household income and family size for the year.

If you received the benefit

of advance credit payments, you must file a federal tax return and reconcile the advance credit payments with the actual premium tax credit you are eligible to claim on your return. UAMS to host Diversity Day on February 27 ¡Hola! Arkansas Little Rock, AR The Center for Diversity Affairs of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will be hosting the first Annual “Diversity Day” on February 27, 2015.

This event is designed to inform underrepresented and disadvantaged students about the variety of career options available on campus.

Students will be exposed to the six colleges by receiving admissions information, participating in rotations

through various clinical sites, touring with hands-on activities in the simulation center and through interactions with current health professional students.

Representatives from each UAMS colleges will be present for students to meet throughout the day. Formal

breakout session targeting each college discipline will be held during the morning session. Students guided tours of UAMS will be available to students, faculty and staff.

The event is meant to give students a sense of life at University of Arkansas for

Taxes Continued from COVER The appropriation bill reduces the income tax rate for Arkansans earning between $21,000 and $75,000 a year by 1 percentage point compared to last year. This way, people earning between $21,000 and $35,099 a year will pay 5 percent instead of 6 percent.

And people earning between $35,100 and $75,000 a year will pay 6 percent instead of 7 percent. At first glance it may not seem like much, but in the reports are showing different.

Reports say some Lawmakers feel the tax cut leaves little room for other breaks or reductions. he bill did pass with a 31-0 vote.

After the tax cut package passed, Arkansas Senate President Jonathan Dismang told reporters, “I’m proud we’re able to accomplish this for Arkansas taxpayers and working families, and look forward to it being signed by the governor.”

Meanwhile, Governor Hutchinson stated, “I want to thank the legislators for their diligent work in passing this tax cut for working Arkansans. I am especially

grateful to the leadership of both houses for their efforts on this bill. They truly did the work of the people and the people of Arkansas will benefit.”

“This is an encouraging first step in making Arkansas’ income tax rates more competitive with surrounding states, which will only enhance our reputation as a state that is eager to attract and accommodate new jobs and businesses. Arkansas has been an island of high taxation for too long, and I’m pleased that we are doing something about that,” he said.

Febrero es el Mes de la Salud Dental Nacional ¡Hola! Arkansas Little Rock, AR Cada año escolar los padres y estudiantes pierden días por razones médicas.

Ya sea por una cita o por que su hijo está enfermo, los padres se esfuerzan en mantener a su hijo en la escuela tanto como sea posible.

Su distrito escolar y los funcionarios estarán de acuerdo en que la prevención es la clave para tener un niño sano. Dándole vitaminas y manteniendo una buena dieta ayudará a fortalecer su sistema inmunológico.

Con un sistema inmune fuerte su hijo puede combatir mejor los virus y las bacterias. Llevando a su hijo a una evaluación médica cada año y una dental cada seis meses, esto le ayu-

dará a pasar más tiempo en el aula de clases y menos tiempo en la sala del doctor.

Febrero es el tiempo ideal para que los estudiantes a repasen los buenos hábitos de salud bucal.

Lo ideal es programar una visita al dentista de su hijo durante el año. Durante esta evaluación recibirá una limpieza, radiografías, tratamiento de fluoruro y un examen oral.

La limpieza le permitirá a su dentista eliminar la acumulación de placa que el cepillo de dientes pudo haber pasado por alto. A veces, a pesar de nuestros esfuerzos la placa se las arregla para meterse en las encías. Si no se trata esta placa puede causar gingivitis, enfermedad de las encías. Por lo tanto, es importante llevar a su niño a una revisión dental cada seis meses para

evitar la acumulación de la misma.

La examinación identifica cualquier problema o alguna cuestión dental o preocupación de los padres.

Durante esta examinación su dentista observará las caries, el acomodamiento de los dientes, el desarrollo de la mandíbula, los hábitos como chuparse el dedo y la respiración por la boca.

Las radiografías de la boca del niño ayudarán al dentista en la identificación de estos problemas.

Los rayos X son un tipo de imagen de los dientes y la boca. Los rayos X son una forma de radiación electromagnética, como la luz visible. Son de mayor energía y pueden atravesar el cuerpo para formar una imagen en una película. En estas películas su dentista puede ver caries entre los dientes

Left untreated this plaque can cause gingivitis, gum disease. Therefore it is important to get your child’s teeth checked every six months for plaque build-up.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke. In fact, about 70 million Americans have high blood pressure.

People with high blood pressure are four times more likely to die from a stroke and three times more likely to die from heart disease. High blood pressure often shows no signs or symptoms, which is why having your blood pressure checked regularly is important.

Today, it is easier than ever to get your blood pressure checked. Along with your health care providers, blood pressure screening is available at pharmacies, drug

stores, and even at home using a home blood pressure monitor.

If you know you have high blood pressure, take these steps to help get it under control: Ask your doctor what your blood pressure should be. Set a goal to lower your pressure with your doctor and discuss how you can reach your goal.

Work with your health care team to make sure you meet that goal. Track your blood pressure over time. One way

to do that is with a free wallet card from Million Hearts.

Take your blood pressure medication as directed. Set a timer on your phone to remember to take your medication at the same time each day.
