The president suggested Americans, particularly young people, who fail to vote have to shoulder some of the blame for the lack of progress on immigration. Two-thirds of eligible voters stayed home in the last election, he said. “I’m willing to be that there are young people who have family members who are at risk of the existing immigration system who did not vote. So, my question, not just to the immigrant community, but the country as a whole, is why are you staying at home? Why are you not participating?” he said. But he also predicted that the immigration issue would eventually be solved “because at some point there is going to be a President

Celebration among Republican ranks and deep disappointment in the immigrant community. A federal judge blocked Obama’s executive actions from going into effect, a move immigration reform advocates are calling only a “temporary setback.” Texas U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen issued a temporary injunction on Monday, February 16, siding with Texas and 25 other states that signed on to
a lawsuit against Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The White House announced that the Department of Justice is appealing the decision. The ruling pushes back the start date for millions of immigrants workers to come forward, register, and apply for work permits, which was planned to begin as soon as February 18, 2015, for DREAMers. It means that until the ruling is blocked or overturned by a higher court -- individuals will not be able to apply for the new

programs announced by President Obama on Nov. 20, 2014. These include the expanded version of DACA, which was slated to start Wednesday, and the new program for parents of U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, called Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA), which was expected to start in May. The School Breakfast Scorecard from the Food Research and Action Center ranks Arkansas 10th best for serving first meals to nearly 170,000 children. not do the following: - Call to demand immediate payment or call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill. - Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe. - Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card. - Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
- Threaten to contact local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying. IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said of these scams: “We have formal processes in place for people with tax issues. The IRS respects taxpayer rights, and these angry, shakedown calls are not how we do business.” The Attorney General’s office again reminds consumers that the IRS does not use unsolicited e-mail, text
messages or any social media to discuss a personal tax issue. Arkansans who receive a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS or asking for money are encouraged to call the IRS at (800) 829-1040 or the Arkansas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division hotline at (800) 482-8982. But how realistic is it, if Arkansans did not roll their window down and just displayed their license? “In reality there are officers that have misinterpreted that and I have actually had a client who had his windshield busted out, his seat belt cut out, and he was tased and arrested, and so the reality does not always mesh with the theoretical,” said Attorney Collins. So while it is your right as an Arkansans to display your license and keep your window up during a DWI checkpoint, Collins said that it could just depend on what officer you are dealing with.
