Montoya salió en último lugar para ganar la 99a carrera en el Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Montoya es definitivamente más experimentado. Arkansas Little Rock, AR Un estudio reciente encuentra que 4.3 millones de estadounidenses que tienen trabajos (a) de tiempo completo sufrieron de un trastorno de ansiedad en el año pasado. Illness can be debilitating, but treatment is available so workers can stay productive, experts say. As the agency explained, people with anxiety disorders experience overwhelming worry and fear.
However, these conditions can be managed through counseling and/or medication. “People with anxiety disorders can have a hard time gaining employment and sometimes dealing with certain situations,” SAMHSA administrator Pamela Hyde said. “But fortunately, with treatment and support they can make enormous contributions to the workplace and the community.” Researchers analyzed data from 67,500 respondents aged 12 and older who took part in SAMHSA’s annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health between 2008 and 2012. Rates of anxiety dis-

Camp Can Do Camp Can Do is a summer literacy and language enrichment program for select English Learners currently enrolled in the Little Rock School District in grades K through 5. The camp is designed to provide English Learners with opportunities to develop their language proficiency and literacy skills. Deborah Courson Smith Arkansas News Service Los graduados universitarios que buscan trabajo en Arkansas no la tienen nada fácil, según un nuevo informe que da una mirada en profundidad a las ofertas de trabajo en línea de todo el país. Arkansas está clasificado en el nivel inferior del informe, junto con otros estados del sur. Dr. Tony Carnevale, autor principal del informe y director del Centro de Educación y la Fuerza Laboral en la Universidad de Georgetown, ofreció una visión. “Tienes que tener relativamente empleos de bajos salarios y baja cualificación”, dijo. “Esa es la fuerza de trabajo que se mantiene porque esa es la fuerza de trabajo que está siendo contratada, es algo
de un problema que se autoperpetúa”. Una nota interesante en el informe es que Arkansas aparece como un estado superior de crecimiento en los listados de trabajo de educación desde 2010 , sino también un estado superior para el número de educadores con títulos universitarios que no pueden encontrar posiciones. Los mejores lugares para puestos de trabajo de postgrado de la universidad son Massachusetts, Delaware y el estado de Washington.

College graduates searching for jobs in Arkansas don’t have the easiest time, according to a new report that takes an in-depth look at online job postings across
the nation. Arkansas is ranked in the bottom tier of the report along with other southern states. Dr. Tony Carnevale, lead author of report and director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, offered an insight. “You’ve got relatively low-wage, low-skill jobs,” he said. “That’s the labor force that you keep be-

cause that’s the labor force that’s being hired, something of a self-perpetuating problem.” An interesting note in the report is that Arkansas is listed as a top state for growth in education job listings since 2010, but also a top state for the number of educators with college degrees who cannot find positions. The best spots for college graduate jobs are Massachusetts, Delaware
and Washington state. Another trend, Carnevale noted, is in sales jobs, which traditionally have not required a four-year college degree. Now, twothirds of sales jobs require a college degree, he said, “and a fair share of them, half, roughly are selling medical or industrial technology and equipment. You’re selling to experts; you’ve got to be one.” The report concluded
that, overall, the sheer number of jobs posted shows that the economy has recovered. College grads with the best odds of finding a job have degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, managerial, health care and technical fields. Marineras latinas fortalecen la Marina de los Estados Unidos ¡Hola! Arkansas New York City, NY
¿Qué le viene a la mente cuando piensa en la Semana de la Flota de Nueva York? Tal vez, grandes barcos y hombres fuertes de la Marina en sus uniformes blancos tomando fotos con ansiosas fans y turistas en Times Square. Pero ¿qué pasa con las mujeres? Si prestas atención, te darás cuenta de la cara de la Marina de los Estados Unidos y el Ejército de los Estados Unidos continua cambiando y las mujeres hispanas están sirviendo como nunca antes. El número de hispanos enlistados en el Ejército de Estados Unidos tiene más que el doble desde 1995. En total, el número de mujeres hispanas ha aumentado casi 10 veces en las últimas dos décadas. Durante ese mismo tiempo, el número de mujeres hispanas que se enlistaron también se ha
duplicado en la Marina, con un crecimiento del 8.6 por ciento en 1995 al 18.3 por ciento de todas las mujeres de la Marina enlistadas en el 2015. “Somos realmente un pequeño porcentaje en la
Marina, y es realmente emocionante para uno ser una mujer, y ser una mujer hispana en la Marina,” Bertha Favela-Xiang, quien se hace llamar Stephanie, es una joven de 19 años de edad, Alférez de la Marina a bordo
del USS San Antonio. “Este es un ambiente trabajo muy dominado por los hombres”. Favela-Xiang es mexicano-americana de Saint Paul Minnesota y ha estado en el barco durante un año y medio.
“Tenían un video de mí en el quinto grado en el escenario en nuestra graduación y me están preguntando” ¿Qué quieres hacer cuando seas grande? “Y yo les dije que quiero ser un infante de marina, y todo el mundo se quedó callado. Supongo que esperaban algo más”. Quezada, de El Paso, Texas, es uno de siete hijos. Ella tiene dos hermanos y es la única de su familia que ha servido en el ejército estadounidense. Ella es muy reconocida, ganó un premio al mejor marinero del trimestre, una hazaña impresionante, sobre todo porque el mar le causa náuseas. Para otras mujeres latinas a bordo, como Brittany Roa, de 19 años de edad, salir al mar ha cambiado su vida. “Crecí un poco en el borde rocoso”, Roa, una puertorriqueña del Bronx en Nueva York, dijo. “La marina me ha proporcionado estabilidad financiera, educación, un
lugar donde vivir, comida para comer. Esto realmente me ha beneficiado mucho”. “Defienda su posición, sólo porque es una mujer no deje que otras personas la manejen o piensen que vas a ser amable sólo porque es una mujer”, dijo Stephanie, quien agregó: “está bien ser una mujer a bordo. Latina sailors strengthening U.S. Navy ¡Hola! Arkansas New York City, NY What comes to mind when you think of New York’s Fleet Week? Perhaps, big ships and strong Navy men in their pressed white uniforms taking photos with eager female fans and tourists in Times Square. But what about the women? If you pay attention, you’ll notice the face of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. military continues to change and Hispanic women are serving like never before.
The number of enlisted Hispanics in the U.S. military has more than doubled since 1995. Overall, the number of Hispanic enlisted women has increased nearly 10 times over the past two decades. During that same time, the number of Hispanic females enlisted has also doubled in the Navy, growing from 8.6 percent in 1995 to 18.3 percent of all enlisted Navy women in 2015. “We are really like a small percentage of the Navy, and it’s really exciting to one be a woman, and to be a Hispanic

like 19-year-old Brittany Roa, going out to sea has changed her life. “I grew up a little on the rocky edge,” Roa, a Puerto Rican from the Bronx in New York, said. “The navy has provided me with financial stability, education, a place to stay, food to eat. This really has benefited me so much.” “Stand your ground, just because you’re a woman don’t let other people push you around or think that you’re going to be nice just because you’re a girl,” Stephanie said,
adding: “it’s OK to be a girl onboard. I like putting on makeup and doing my hair well and that’s OK.” Favela-Xiang wants to be a doctor, maybe an OBGYN, for the Navy one day. Quezada wants to be a Naval pilot one day. Roa, however is still deciding, but in the meantime she’s happy to see Latinas excel. “Make our ancestors proud, and just be educated and have self-respect, self-confidence, and just reach for the stars.”
