Washington County judge has ruled that a Las Vegas company violated Arkansas law by selling invalid international driver’s licenses and identification cards, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today. Judge Doug Martin entered a default judgment against American ID Solutions and its owner, Saul Gomez, in Washington County Circuit Court last week. McDaniel had filed suit against Gomez’s company last year, accusing it of fraudulently advertising its ID cards as official, legal documents. American ID Solutions advertised to Spanish-speaking consumers that the cards it issued would entitle holders to drive in any part of the world, rent a car in any city, obtain title and
insurance and avoid most traffic citations. The defendants were ordered to pay a $100,000 civil penalty and cease their illegal operations, which violated the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. “This company targeted consumers who may be unaware of the process to obtain legitimate and official driver’s licenses or identification cards,” McDaniel said. “Despite the advertisements to the contrary, these cards provided no benefit and served no legal purpose.” American ID Solutions peddled two types of products: An “international driver’s license” was sold for $175 and an ID card was $75. The documents strongly resembled legitimate driver’s licenses, but were actually useless. See ID CARDS Page 4A

Educación Viene de la PORTADA Aquí hay tres cosas que los dirigentes metropolitanos deben hacer durante mientras la reforma migratoria está estancada en Washington. En primer lugar, entender cómo los inmigrantes se adaptan a su geografía y economía. Indeed, the Small Business Administration has found that immigrant-owned businesses are more likely to export goods and services abroad than native-owned firms. Many people’s view of where immigrants settle and what work they do in a metropolitan area is decades out of date. In 63 of the 95 largest metros, including Atlanta, Detroit,
and Orlando, the majority of the foreign-born population lives in the suburbs, rather than the central city. Immigrants are also coming to the United States with a range of skills. The Seattle, San Francisco and Washington, DC regions attract high-skilled immigrants, while Houston, San Antonio and Wichita tend to draw a greater share of immigrants lacking a high school diploma. Second, metropolitan leaders can learn from the places across the country that are ahead of the curve when it comes to integrat-
ing immigrants and making the most of their economic contributions. On other measures, including poverty and homeownership rates, the gaps are roughly the same as they were 40 years ago.

The SDL is an initiative within Labor Day in the U.S. and aims to raise awareness and inform the immigrant community about their fundamental rights and what to do if they are victims of violations of their labor rights.
The Government of Mexico has continued intensifying preventive actions and monitoring in order to demand respect fully the rights of Mexican workers, regardless of immigration status. The SDL is given in the framework of the permanent priority activity of the Consulate of Mexico in Little Rock, to provide consular assistance to workers whose labor rights have not been respected.
This is a collaboration between the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Government of Mexico.
