Arkansas celebra Semana Binacional de Salud october 1 al 12 La Semana Binacional de Salud (SBS) se ha convertido en una de las mayores movilizaciones de esfuerzos de las Américas, para mejorar la salud y el bienestar de los inmigrantes y migrantes más vulnerables de origen latinoamericano que viven en Estados Unidos y Canadá. El tema de este año, “Camina Alegre por tu Salud” promueve un evento anual que consiste en una serie de actividades de promoción y educación de la salud que incluye talleres informativos, canalización a servicios y a programas de seguro médico, así como exámenes básicos de detección gratuitos.
La Semana Binacional de Salud es solamente un primer paso en una serie de esfuerzos de cooperación entre los países de Norte y Latinoamérica para mejorar la salud de los migrantes. Por cuarto año consecutivo, el Consulado de México en Little Rock, Arkansas junto con el programa de la Ventanilla de Salud organiza la Semana Binacional de Salud a realizarse del 1 de octubre al 11 de octubre en las instalaciones del Consulado 3500 South University Avenue, Little Rock de 9:00 a.m. a 12:00 p.m. La clausura De la SBS en Arkansas se llevará a cabo el día sábado 12 de octubre con un evento
de celebración del Dia de la Raza, una Caminata, comida, bailes entre las 10am a las 3pm. “Esta semana de actividades es posible gracias a la participación de una red de miles de voluntarios, agencias gubernamentales y organizaciones comunitarias que han hecho de la Semana Binacional de Salud su propia mission,” dijo el Consul de México en Little Rock, David Manuel Preciado Juarez. Usted probablemente ya sabe que fumar durante el embarazo puede hacerle daño a su bebé. Su bebé está expuesto a todo lo que respira cuando se fuma, los productos químicos tóxicos como la nicotina, el monóxido de carbono y alquitrán. Pero las personas cercanas al proceso dicen que después de un período de ajuste, las ventajas superan con creces la confusión. David Chandra está siguiendo la reforma de salud del Centro de Presupuesto y Prioridades Políticas en Washington. Él dice que los mayores cambios

What can Arkansans expect with Health-Care Reform? Dan Heyman Arkansas News Service Health-care reform is going to mean a lot of changes for Arkansas consumers, starting this fall. But people close to the process say after a period of adjustment, the advantages should far outweigh the confusion. Dave Chandra is following health-care reform for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington. He says the biggest changes may be for the hundreds of thousands of people in the state who don’t have insurance now. Chandra says they’ll be able to go to the new online health-insurance exchange, enter some basic information and get coverage - which, he says, might take getting used to. “After a year or two or three, I think people will start to get acclimated to this process. So for the four
hundred thousand people who don’t have coverage today, no matter how difficult change is, the benefits here have the potential to be enormous.” Critics charge that the reform is too complicated and that it will raise prices. Chandra points out that health insurance already is complicated. He says the reform will actually make it simpler for consumers in that the new exchange will allow them to compare prices side-by-side. And he says half-a-dozen states have already seen rates come in way below what was expected. Chandra says that may be because of the new direct competition between the insurance companies on the exchanges. “In Oregon, two of the insurance companies came back and said they wanted to lower their rates. And in DC three of the four carriers
actually lowered their rates. For the first time, everyone can see what the rates are side-by-side.” Chandra says if people are happy with their insurance, they don’t have to
