Lopez who is about to be five months pregnant says she is happy. “I love to see my belly in the mirror,” says the Puerto Rican, who hopes to deliver her baby by natural birth. “I want a whole team that can be in control if something happens.”

¡Hola! Arkansas Little Rock, AR La violencia doméstica es más común que la gripe. Y si los medios sociales son algún tipo de indicador, las secuelas del fiasco de la NFL en el manejo de aquellos jugadores atrapados en actos de violencia, nos indican que la violen-

cia doméstica se encuentra en niveles críticos. Para muchas familias latinas también es una realidad cotidiana. Una nueva encuesta realizada por la Fundación Allstate, “Arma Silenciosa: La Violencia Doméstica y el Abuso Financiero”, encuentra que el 30 por ciento de las latinas revelan

que han sido víctimas de abuso doméstico, mientras que el 64 por ciento de las latinas confiesan que conocen a una víctima de abuso doméstico. El mayor misterio para los espectadores de la violencia doméstica, es por qué las víctimas permanecen con sus abusadores. Una enorme razón

tiene poco que ver con puñetazos y patadas, pero todo que ver con el dinero. Las víctimas de violencia doméstica también sufren de abuso financiero. El abusador maneja el dinero, dejando a la víctima con un sentimiento de impotencia sobre su situación y futuro. The domestic violence is more common than flu. And if social media is any indication, in the aftermath of the NFL fiasco handling of those players caught in acts of violence, domestic violence is at crisis levels. For too many Latino families it is also a daily fact of life. A new survey by the Allstate Foundation, “Silent Weapon: Domestic Violence and Financial Abuse,” finds that 30 percent of Latinas reveal they have been victims of domestic abuse, while 64 percent of Latinas confess to knowing a victim of domestic abuse. The biggest

mystery to spectators of domestic violence is why the victims continue to stay with their abusers. A big reason has little to do with punches and kicks but everything to do with money. Victims of domestic violence also suffer from financial abuse. The abuser handles the money, leaving the victim feeling powerless over her/his situation and future. In the survey, Latinas cited money as the least likely reason to leave an abusive relationship. To promote awareness of domestic and financial abuse, the Allstate Foundation created the bilingual Purple Purse/Bolsa Morada campaign. The sites offer information on

the warning signs of domestic violence and financial abuse and resources and tools for victims. The foundation is also spearheading the Purple Purse Challenge, a crowd funding campaign that benefits the organizations helping domestic violence victims. The foundation enlisted the help of the campaign’s celebrity ambassador, actress Kerry Washington, who designed a special purple purse for the campaign. Meant to represent the “center of a woman’s financial domain,” three purses a day will be given away in random drawings among those who donate at least $10 to the campaign.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, el icónico comediante mexicano nacido el 21 de febrero de 1929, falleció el pasado 28 de noviembre a los 85 años de edad. Gómez Bolaños escribió y personificó el personaje infantil televisivo, “El Chavo del Ocho,” que marcó a una generación de millones de niños en América Latina. Conocido como “Chespirito”, su apodo provino de la pronunciación fonética española de Shakespeare, “Chespir”, combinado con “ito”, un diminutivo de uso común en México que parecía natural para Gómez Bolaños debido a su corta estatura. Sus dos personajes más famosos fueron “El Chavo

del Ocho”, quien vivió en los hogares de América Latina y más allá, con su barril, sus pecas, su camisa a rayas y una gorra deshilachada, y el ingenuo superhéroe, “El Chapulín Colorado”. Proof of his wide popularity came when he opened a Twitter account in 2011 with a simple message: “Hello. I’m Chespirito. I’m 82 years old and this is the first time I tweet. This is my debut. All

the good people follow me!” In less than two months, he had 1 million followers. By the time of his death, there were 6.6 million.
