EDITOR’S
One of my most Spanish experiences and one that I will never forget is looking over the burnt orange and golden chestnut trees from a viewpoint in Pujerra, off the beaten track in the Serranía de Ronda. It was vast, beautiful, and so very autumnal. We were there, at the beginning of November, to harvest chestnuts and to celebrate them in Spanish style with a tostón, roasting chestnuts in a pan over an open fire. I totally recommend them with a shot of Aguardiente, but they’re as lovely with a creamy hot chocolate for an AF option.
Roasted chestnuts are still one of my favourite Spanish traditions. For me, the tostón and the appearance of chestnut stalls in plazas and alamedas are a sure sign that winter has arrived. It’s around this time when we pull out our winter wardrobe and get our homes ready for the season ahead.
And that’s exactly what this issue of Home & Lifestyle Magazine celebrates too. Inside, we share pages of inspiration on how to bring warmth to our homes and to make them feel cosy this winter, without compromising on style.
Featuring the very best furniture brands around, we add layers of texture with statementmaking wallpapers, and we shine a light on the importance of ambient lighting. We consider the transformational power of rugs and their ability to instantly change the aesthetic in a space, we cosy up in soft and tactile armchairs and sofas, and we say hello to a new wave of heating solutions. From museum worthy pieces to environmentally-friendly bioethanol fireplaces, they all enhance the look and feel of your living space whilst serving a purpose also.
Of course, winter on the coast is as unique as the traditions and our mild climate means the outdoors also remains a natural extension of our homes. Our Outdoor Living feature highlights the seamless blend of indoor and outdoor spaces that characterises the Mediterranean way of life. From bold furniture designs to oversized bean bags and chunky sofas, there’s a setup to suit every lifestyle and occasion.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Home & Lifestyle Magazine, the last in 2024 and, as we fast approach the end of the year, the team would love to wish you all a happy winter and joyous festive season filled with warmth, comfort, and style in your home.
We’ll see you in 2025!

“WE CREATE HOMES AND LUXURY LIVING SPACES“
STYLISH OUTDOOR LIVING THIS WINTER
One of the obvious joys of living in southern Spain is its year-round microclimate. During the mild winter months, outdoor living spaces remain a key extension of the home and finding a natural blend between indoors and outdoors is a wonderful way to show continuity and flow throughout.
This season, outdoor furniture collections have become more gregarious, daring to venture into the realm of bold colour and avantgarde designs that mix practicality with eye-catching aesthetic appeal. Of course, creating cosy and welcoming environments continues to be a trend, and earthy, muted colours will always be very popular as they celebrate the colours of the natural vegetation that surrounds the outdoor space. Natural materials such as teak are increasingly sought-after due to their natural beauty and unbounding resistance to harsh weather conditions.
Dining at home has become more popular since the pandemic, and buying robust outdoor dining furniture is worth the investment so you can enjoy alfresco dining with friends and family for years to come. The trend for a more casual lounging experience at home has seen an increase in demand for oversized beanbags, large chunky sofas, cushions and poufs, inviting you to spend more time enjoying your outdoor areas in comfort. Let’s explore how these trends are reshaping outdoor spaces this winter…
The new Tuba chair by Diabla is made purely out of aluminium - a highly-resistant and infinitely recyclable material that is also very lightweight. SETTING THE SCENE
As the festive season approaches, tableware takes centre stage, becoming an essential part of creating the perfect atmosphere for holiday gatherings. Christmas time, with its focus on family, food, and celebration, is the ideal occasion to bring out beautiful and carefully selected dinnerware. This season’s tableware trends offer a diverse range of styles to suit various tastes, from the intricately decorative to the elegantly simple. We have detailed, ornate designs featuring festive motifs, metallic accents, and rich textures evoking a sense of tradition and luxury, perfect for formal Christmas dinners and lavish spreads. In contrast, plain, classic designs lean towards minimalism, exuding timeless sophistication that allows the food and décor to take the spotlight. For those who prefer a more relaxed vibe, playful, casual designs featuring bright colours, quirky patterns, or whimsical holiday themes bring a sense of fun and ease to the table. From elegant and refined to light-hearted and joyful, there’s a design for every occasion…

LUXURY LOUNGING THIS WINTER
To create a relaxing living room this winter, homeowners are gravitating towards muted tones which often include soft neutrals, gentle greys, and earthy hues that foster serenity. Comfort remains at the forefront of design, with soft, cosy upholstery and low, block-like seating that offers a laid-back yet structured feel. However, there is still a trend for adding a touch of glamour through metallic accents. Whether it’s a brass lamp or a gold-trimmed table, when introduced in moderation, these elements offer an elegant shimmer to a space without the overwhelm.
Practicality also plays a key role in modern living room layouts with a focus on clever storage solutions to keep clutter at bay. Stylish bookcases are not only functional but can serve as room dividers in large, open spaces, helping to define different areas without the need for walls. Additionally, side tables and coffee tables are no longer merely utilitarian. Instead, sculptural designs are emerging, turning these pieces into artful statements that bring a sense of creativity and visual interest to the room. Fortunately, heating solutions have also evolved to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Whether it’s a sculptural radiator or an elegant, modern fireplace, there are plenty of options to keep the room warm and cosy whilst enhancing the overall design.

CREATING AN INTERIOR OASIS WITH WALLPAPER
Wallpapers have made a stylish comeback in interior design, offering a striking way to transform a room, with statement walls being a standout trend. Done right, a feature wall can serve as a focal point, drawing attention and elevating the space. However, if mismanaged, it can disrupt the room’s flow, leaving it feeling disjointed and chaotic. When choosing wallpaper for a singular wall, it’s crucial to consider the room’s existing colour palette and ensure the wallpaper design complements it rather than clashes with it. Beyond aesthetics, statement walls also offer an element of artistry and self-expression, allowing homeowners to showcase their personal style in a bold, creative way.
Popular themes like nature-inspired prints continue to dominate, evoking feelings of calm and serenity. Earthy tones, in particular, are timeless and have grown even more popular, grounding the space with a sense of warmth and harmony. While bold, artistic wallpapers make a powerful statement, plain wallpapers offer their own charm, adding warmth and ambiance to a space. They can often make a room feel cosier and more inviting than bare walls, creating a subtle yet sophisticated backdrop that enhances the overall atmosphere. Whether bold or understated, the right wallpaper can completely transform the feel of a room.

In today’s fast-paced world, the bedroom has evolved into more than just a place to sleep. It has become a personal sanctuary, a space to unwind and recharge. This shift is reflected in the latest bedroom design trends, where style meets function in perfect harmony.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or remodelling your kitchen, careful planning is key to ensure that it not only looks beautiful but serves its purpose from a practical point of view. The kitchen’s layout is crucial for optimising space and movement. Adequate storage is essential for keeping your kitchen organised and clutter-free so incorporating cabinetry that maximises every inch can be quite transformational. Choosing the right materials significantly impacts the look and feel of your kitchen too. Wooden cabinetry adds warmth while sleek countertops in quartz or granite provide a modern, durable surface. THAT MILLION DOLLAR FEELING
INTERVIEW WITH MAHER MANSOUR
You opened your first salon in Marbella in May this year. What inspired you to set up business here?
I am passionate about the art of hairdressing and have been pushing boundaries of what is possible in the industry for more than 25 years. We have two successful hair salons in the Netherlands, in Rotterdam and Utrecht, and after more than a decade of success there, we felt it was time to expand our business. We could see a lot of opportunities for our business in Marbella, and we wanted to be part of its growth and development as an international brand. Our dream has always been to serve with care, boost confidence, and spread joy. Our mission is to provide the best service and ensure every woman leaves our Marbella salon feeling great.
They say hairdressing is a vocation. Does that ring true for you?
Yes, I feel like being a hairdresser is in my soul. As a young boy growing up in Damascus in Syria, I wanted to be a hairdresser. I studied hard, travelling abroad to train and build up my reputation as a top hairdresser. I soon had two salons with a team of 20 hairdressers and a celebrity following. Unfortunately, Syria became a dangerous place to be and I fled the country to start a new life in the Netherlands as a refugee. I opened a small salon
in Utrecht within eight months and moved into a larger premises of 250 squared-metres within a year, bringing over my highly-trained staff from Syria to work in the business.
What makes Salon Maher stand out from other salons in the area?
I instinctively know what a woman needs as soon as she walks into the salon. My approach is innovative and unique, and I’m not afraid to think outside the box and develop my own techniques. We treat our clients like royalty and they leave Salon Maher feeling a million dollars. We have already been the official hairdressing partner for the Marbella Fashion Show in July, which was a great way to put us on the map and show residents what we are all about.
Is there a signature service you offer at Salon Maher?
Star services include the latest hair extension techniques, legendary blowouts, fantastic cuts, colours, balayage and highlights. We have also opened a Head Spa which combines massage, exfoliation, and deep cleansing to promote hair and scalp health, as well as overall well-being. We also have plans to bring permanent make-up and beauty treatments to Salon Maher for a complete hair and beauty makeover experience.
Is there anything else that puts Salon Maher on the map?
We are partnering with the charity Collective Calling until the end of the year to raise awareness for the amazing work they do to address homelessness in Spain and street children in Tanzania. You can make donations directly in the salon or by purchasing one of their beautiful scented candles. For clients visiting the salon before the end of December, we will donate 10 per cent to Collective Calling when they quote the charity code COLLECTIVE10.

INTERVIEW WITH SVETLANA DIMITROVA, CEO OF ARTE DEL LUSSO
Arte del Lusso has been a respected name in window solutions for many years. You have recently expanded into areas such as wallpapers, rugs, and upholstery fabrics. What led you to do so?
At Arte del Lusso, we have always been committed to offering the best in window solutions but, over time, we realised that our customers wanted a complete approach to decorating and transforming their spaces. We understand that decorating a home or space is about harmony between all the elements. We are passionate about creating unique environments, where every product we offer complements our clients’ vision. We know that every space tells a story and we want to help our customers tell theirs by offering options that reflect their style and personality.
Our goal is to provide our customers with everything they need in one place, always with the same quality and elegance that has set us apart for years. All our products maintain that touch of luxury and detail that is valued so much.
Can you tell us how to choose the right curtains for our home?
The best curtains should provide the perfect balance of light, privacy, and functionality. Our secret is simple: we combine what you need with what you love. Do you need to block out light or do you prefer a soft glow? Are you looking for privacy or do you prefer an open, bright environment? By
knowing your expectations, we find the options that best suit your day-today life and that fit in with the overall style of your home.
We customise all our recommendations to each specific home and room, to find the perfect balance between design and utility. We consider the orientation of your home and the windows to recommend the best solutions that allow you to control light, temperature, and privacy easily and efficiently. The measurements and the way the curtains hang can make or break the functionality and aesthetics so it’s crucial to find the perfect fit. Curtains will transform a room if you get the measurements right. We always recommend the exact length, drape, and width to make them look elegant and stylish. For us, finding the right curtains is about practicality but without overlooking what makes a space really feel like yours. And that combination never fails!
Awnings, pergolas, and blinds have been central to Arte del Lusso for many years. Could you tell us about the solutions you offer and how they enhance a home’s functionality and style?
At Arte del Lusso our awnings, pergolas and blinds solutions are designed to enhance comfort and sun protection, but to also make a statement and elevate the design of any home.
Awnings add a touch of elegance to decks, patios, or balconies and are an excellent choice to create cooler, outdoor spaces, protected from the
sun and heat. We have a range of colours and styles, and many can be customised with motorised systems for added convenience.
Pergolas in modern designs - made of durable materials - take outdoor space to the next level. We offer bioclimatic pergola models, which allow you to adjust the slats to control the amount of light and ventilation, and pergolas with retractable roofs that provide versatility in any climate.
Combining style and technology, Arte de Lusso pergolas become the centre of attention in any garden or terrace .
Outdoor blinds, on the other hand, play a crucial role in energy efficiency as well as looking good. They provide privacy and control sunlight, reducing heat inside the house and optimising energy consumption. Every home is unique, and at Arte del Lusso we know that. We adapt to the architectural style of your home, from classic to contemporary, to make sure our awnings, pergolas, screens, and even sunshade solutions do their job but also enhance the overall aesthetics of the space.
What trends are you seeing in window treatments for winter?
On the Costa del Sol, where cold days are few and far between, our customers are looking for window treatments that offer thermal insulation
when needed, but still allow for maximum natural light. Thermal curtains and duo blinds are ideal for this climate, combining style, comfort and efficiency. Automated blinds also allow you to control the entry of light and maintain a comfortable temperature in your home effortlessly.
Could you tell us about the type of clientele you work with and the projects you do?
At Arte del Lusso we work with a diverse clientele that includes owners of residential homes, boutique hotels, commercial spaces, architects, and interior designers. Recently we have completed projects ranging from custom curtains and motorised blinds in private residences to solutions for hotels seeking functionality and elegance. We also collaborate with designers and architects to create sophisticated spaces and have seen an increase in demand for custom-made pergolas and awnings. We combine design, technology and comfort, adapting to the unique needs of our clients, with everything we do.

MEDITERRANEAN LIVING MEETS NORDIC DESIGN
INTERVIEW WITH KARLA BJÖRK, MARKETING DIRECTOR OF THE SCANDINAVIAN SHOWROOM
The Scandinavian Showroom held an intimate event in their centrallylocated studio in Málaga to present their unique design concept to a visiting real estate agency from Sweden. Home & Lifestyle Magazine was lucky enough to be invited to this event and was fascinated to learn more about how this forward-thinking Scandinavian design company operates…
Tell us about the history of your company. How did it all begin?
It all started seven years ago with QPL Transport, which I co-founded with Oskar Björk. We began as a high-quality removals and transport company between the Nordic countries and southern Spain and Portugal. Over time, we noticed a demand for Nordic furniture and that sparked the idea to bring Scandinavian design to a broader audience. What began as a small distribution of one brand has grown into a much larger venture with The Scandinavian Showroom.
You opened your showroom in Málaga two years ago. Do your surroundings influence your work?
Málaga has a growing interest in high-quality, minimalist design, and it seemed like the perfect place to introduce Nordic interiors. But more than that, the Mediterranean light and lifestyle have influenced our work in unexpected ways. Scandinavian design values natural light and simplicity, and that’s something we’ve been able to enhance in the bright, sundrenched homes of southern Spain. It’s been a beautiful blend of two worlds.
Is there a unique concept behind The Scandinavian Showroom? Definitely. We are not solely furniture retailers; we create spaces that reflect the elegance and simplicity of Nordic style using what we believe to be the best Scandinavian brands in terms of style and quality. We literally handle everything, from the design to the logistics, so our clients get a seamless, stress-free experience - a service that is greatly appreciated by our customers.
What is your design philosophy, and how does it reflect Swedish design principles?
Our design philosophy is all about simplicity, functionality, and harmony. We focus on clean lines, neutral tones, and quality materials. Swedish design is about creating beauty without excess, and we believe a well-lit room can completely transform a space. In Spain, we’re lucky to have so much natural light to work with. It’s all about enhancing what’s already there in a thoughtful, understated way.
What are the benefits of using a collective like The Scandinavian Showroom? The biggest benefit is that we offer a complete, cohesive experience. Instead of having to work with multiple vendors or designers, we have the expertise under one roof. This means less stress for the client and a more streamlined process. And because we have direct access to the top Scandinavian brands, we can guarantee the quality of the products we use. Our clients trust us to deliver on every level, from the creative vision to the practical execution.

The Scandinavian Showroom is a whole team of specialists in their game. Tell us more about the team and what they bring to the company.
We have an incredible team. Annika Kragsterman is our interior design expert and her extensive knowledge of Scandinavian brands is second to none. She’s been instrumental in curating our product catalogue. Then we have Robert Hais and Bertil Svensson, the architect and designer from HUS No.17, who came on board after our merger this year. Their experience allows us to take on more complex commercial projects. And, of course, our logistics team ensures every delivery is handled with care and on time. The whole team works in sync so that every project, no matter how big or small, runs smoothly from start to finish.
Walk us through your process from the initial consultation to the final result. It all starts with an in-depth consultation, where we find out about the client’s vision, needs, and lifestyle. From there, Annika and our design team create a concept that reflects that vision, using carefully selected Scandinavian pieces. Once the furniture is sourced and delivered, we install the pieces,
making sure every element fits perfectly into the space. We’re there from start to finish ensuring the final result exceeds expectations.
Have you found any design challenges working in southern Spain?
One of the biggest surprises has been how well Scandinavian design translates to the Mediterranean environment. They complement each other beautifully. The biggest challenge has been adapting some elements of Nordic design - like heavy use of textiles or specific lighting fixtures - to suit the warmer climate but the results are always beautiful and timeless. There’s a growing appreciation for Nordic aesthetics here, and we’re eager to keep bringing that elegance and simplicity to more homes and businesses.

Atlas Group is proud to continue its long-standing support for the local community in Estepona, particularly through its involvement with the town’s much-loved football team, Club Deportivo Estepona Fútbol Senior (CD Estepona). Interest in the local team has been gathering momentum over the years and excitement is now building as Estepona competes in the prestigious Copa del Rey (King’s Cup), one of Spain’s most renowned football competitions.
CD Estepona was founded in 2014 after the dissolution of Unión Estepona CF. The team quickly rose through the ranks, earning a spot in the Tercera División by 2020. Despite facing relegation, Estepona bounced back, achieving promotion to the Segunda Federación in 2022. This return to form has revitalised local pride in Estepona’s footballing tradition. One of the most anticipated matches this season is against none other than Málaga CF, a larger, more prominent club, with the fan base to match. Yet,
CD Estepona remains firmly rooted in the community and offers a familyfriendly atmosphere at its matches, bringing people of all ages together. In preparation for this important season, the team has worked with the Estepona Council to secure a new pitch while renovations on their home stadium are carried out. Once completed, the team can return to play on home ground.
Atlas Group, a long-time sponsor of CD Estepona, recently renewed its partnership with the club, ensuring continued support for the coming years. This investment reflects the company’s commitment to the local area, helping to nurture local talent and contribute to the spirit of the beautiful game.

THE MONACO YACHT SHOW
DOES THE FUTURE OF SUPERYACHTS PAINT A GREENER PICTURE?
If the recent Monaco Yacht Show is anything to go by, the industry’s eyes are well and truly focused on a more sustainable future. Celebrated in September, the four-day event showcases the latest in yachting design, technology, and innovation and catches the attention of yacht enthusiasts around the globe. This year, a series of panel discussions by yachting experts was based around sustainability, focusing on several key themes including reducing the carbon footprint of older yachts and promoting ecoresponsible practices onboard.
Jean-Marc Bolinger, CEO of the superyacht refit and maintenance company MB92, discussed strategies for decarbonising the existing superyacht fleet to cut operational costs and enhance resale value. Robert van Tol of the Water Revolution Foundation, whose mission is to preserve the world’s oceans and neutralise the footprint of the superyacht industry, used the platform to introduce the 3-R model (Reduce, Remove, Repair), to encourage a more sustainable onboard behaviour among yacht crews.
Of course, with a new focus on sustainability in the industry comes a raft of exciting new products and eco-friendly innovations. None other as groundbreaking as superyacht Kismet. Debuted by the renowned German yacht builder Lürssen at the event, the 122-metre masterpiece epitomises luxury and innovation. It boasts an impressive 17 metre beam, eight opulent cabins, a Balinese-inspired spa, diverse culinary experiences, and an array of water sports toys and tenders.
Kismet is equipped with a state-of-the-art hybrid powertrain for fullelectric mode operation. Combined with a heat recovery system for pool water heating and dynamic positioning for electronic anchoring in sensitive areas, the superyacht shows Lürssen’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Kismet represents modern yacht design and engineering, paving the way to a greener future.

PEACEFUL MOORISH PARADISE
AMANJENA
The magical city of Marrakech is one of contrasts, where the past and present collide in a vibrant tapestry of sights, sounds, and scents. The ochre walls of the ancient Medina (a Unesco World Heritage Site for 40 years) hold a world like no other; the call to prayer echoes from centuriesold minarets, motorbikes weave through the narrowest of alleys, and donkey carts, laden with exotic fruit and spices, make their way to and from the bustling souks. Beyond the city walls, modern Marrakech compares to the most cosmopolitan European cities, with rooftop lounges, contemporary galleries, and up and coming international restaurants aplenty. Here, the traditional and the modern co-exist in perfect harmony.
Marrakech may be an assault on the senses yet, nestled on the outskirts, is the stunning and exclusive Amanjena, a serene sanctuary that exudes a sense of timelessness and a stark contrast from the frenetic city nearby. Surrounded by the lush greenery of a golf course, expansive olive groves, and the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, Amanjena, which translates as peaceful paradise in Sanskrit, lives up to its name. The luxurious resort is designed to create the grandeur of ancient Moorish architecture.
Towering arches, intricate zellige tilework, and graceful fountains are classic and elegant, whilst its rose-hued walls, shaded courtyards, and reflection pools are all authentically Moroccan in style. Each pavilion and maison is a private haven, with spacious interiors (ranging from 175m2 to an impressive 1130m2), handcrafted furniture, and lush private gardens - some featuring their own (heated) pools.
Amanjena is understated luxury at its finest and it’s no wonder that this resort attracts a discerning clientele and high-profile celebrities who place luxury, exclusivity, and privacy at the top of their wish list.
As expected of a world-class resort, Amanjena offers excellent facilities (including a spa with traditional hammams), five-star dining experiences, and a discreet personalised service. And, if you ever do want to leave the luxurious confines of the resort, there are guided tours available including dining under the stars in the Agafay desert, horseback riding in the Atlas Mountains, and, of course, the chance to immerse yourself in the chaotic delight of Marrakech.

ROCOCELLI ITALIAN RESTAURANT, PUERTO BANÚS
AUTHENTIC FLAVOURS AT EXCEPTIONAL VALUE
Situated above the Marina Banús shopping centre in the heart of Puerto Banús, Rococelli Italian Restaurant is a relatively undiscovered culinary treasure. While it may not boast the prime waterfront location like many of its counterparts, this large and inviting restaurant has a charm of its own, offering a dining experience that transports you straight to Italy. From the moment you step inside, Rococelli exudes warmth and authenticity. The décor is an elegant homage to Italy; it’s cosy and inviting with a photo gallery wall of famous personalities adding a touch of glamour to the setting. One of the most impressive features is the large shelving unit displaying an extensive collection of wines, many of which are Italian, showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to providing an authentic Italian experience.
When we visited, we found the service at Rococelli to be very attentive and friendly. The staff go out of their way to make diners feel welcome, adding to the overall inviting atmosphere. Whether you choose to sit indoors or enjoy al fresco dining on the outdoor terrace, they try to make you feel at home.
The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Italian dishes made with the freshest ingredients. Everything is prepared fresh to order, with homemade sauces and carefully selected components playing a key role in every dish. We had the pleasure of trying two standout dishes during our visit. The
special pasta dish with strips of steak was nothing short of spectacular. Rich, indulgent, and beautifully presented, this dish left a lasting impression with its hearty portion size and deep, savoury flavours. Meanwhile, the pizza with prawns was equally delightful, featuring a perfectly crisp base, served piping hot and generously topped with fresh, succulent prawns.
Though Puerto Banús is known for its array of excellent dining establishments, Rococelli is a bit of a hidden gem and is often overlooked due to its location away from the main harbour front. However, those in the know appreciate the high standard of gastronomy and very reasonable prices, especially for the area.
*Rococelli is currently running a fantastic deal through the popular promotional platform CoolDeals, to encourage those who haven’t yet visited before, to try them out at an exceptional price. Diners can enjoy two courses and a drink for only 15 Euros, making this the perfect opportunity to experience Rococelli’s delicious fare at a fraction of the usual cost. This offer is available until 20th December so make sure you don’t miss out! Buy the deal at www.cooldeals.es

NATURAL WINES TO ENJOY THIS WINTER
BY GAËTAN VERVAEKE, SUBTIL WINE BAR
As the days grow shorter, our wine preferences shift from light and crisp to rich and comforting. Natural wines, known for their minimal intervention and authentic expression of terroir, come in a variety of wonderful options. Here is our guide to what to look for if you’re starting on a whole new adventure with natural wines this winter.
Orange Wines
Fermenting white grapes with their skins on gives orange wines a deeper colour and more complex flavours. With earthy, spicy notes, varieties like Ribolla Gialla or Chenin Blanc have a structure that can stand up to hearty winter dishes such as roasted vegetables, root-based soups, and casseroles.
Complex Reds
Natural reds made from grapes such as Tempranillo, Grenache or Carignan, are more layered and complex wines. They often develop multi-faceted flavours from rich fruit to subtle spices, making them versatile for pairing with
winter stews, braised meats, or a holiday roast. A natural Grenache from the Corbières - Languedoc region or Spain’s Penedès region delivers ripe fruit with underlying pepper notes for depth. Great served with beef dishes, and charcuterie and cheese platters.
Glou Glou Reds
Natural glou glou reds, made from grapes such as Gamay, Rufete or Pinot noir, are light and very drinkable. With their vibrant fruit notes and fresh acidity, glou glou reds are fruity, light, and delightfully easy to drink. Perfect for sipping by the fire or alongside casual winter fare.
Rustic Reds
Cabernet Franc and Pinot noir from France’s Loire Valley are great examples of wines with a more rustic, earthy profile. They have a touch of acidity, but with earthy undertones of forest floor, black cherries, and dried herbs. Great served with pasta, game, or mushroom-based meals.

Pet-Nat Sparkling Wines
For something festive, consider a Pet-Nat (pétillant naturel). This ancient method involves bottling the wine before fermentation is complete, resulting in a fizzy, often slightly cloudy, and delightfully refreshing sparkling wine. PetNats made from Sumoll, Pinot noir or Carignan (PENEDÈS) bring bright berry flavours and a touch of fizz to your winter celebrations.
Complex Whites
If you prefer white wine, opt for a richer, more full-bodied natural white. Chardonnay, Verdejo or Macabeo, particularly from cooler climates, bring notes of baked apples, vanilla, and spice, offering warmth without the heaviness of a red wine.
Whether you’re embarking on your natural wine journey or are a natural wine convert, Subtil Wine Bar in Elviria has a curated selection of the best natural wines for every palate and occasion.

THE NEW ERA OF FAT-BUSTING DRUGS
BY RACHEL GARROD
Carrying extra weight can be a challenge, but we now know that, in some cases, managing it is more complex than simply “eating less and moving more.” While lifestyle choices matter, science has shown that genetics play a significant role in how our bodies store fat.
Recent studies have shown that at least eight genes are linked to obesity, affecting key hormones and proteins in the body. Most notably the protein leptin, which is known for the role it plays in reducing appetite and increasing energy expenditure. Studies show that people with lower leptin levels are often overweight and struggle to lose the extra kilos. One key gene, the fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO), also plays a role. If someone inherits two highrisk variants of this gene, their risk of becoming overweight or clinically ‘obese’ increases by as much as 70 per cent.
These insights into body weight management have led to the development of revolutionary fat-busting medications like semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro). Originally created to help manage type 2 diabetes, these drugs mimic a hormone called GLP-1, which stimulates insulin production after meals. As well as regulating blood sugar, they slow digestion, reduce appetite, and influence metabolism, leading to significant weight loss. Clinical trials have shown dramatic results, improving heart health, reducing stroke risk, and enhancing overall health, fitness, and well-being. Although these drugs can have side effects such as nausea, they are seen as a major breakthrough and a welcomed game changer in weight management. However, with rapid weight loss comes less muscle mass which, in turn, leads to less strength and stamina. To limit the loss of muscle and build strength, it’s important to incorporate targeted strength and resistance training into a weight loss journey, with the help of a personal trainer or physiotherapist. Finding the right balance between weight loss and strength building is the way forward to a stronger, healthier you.
If you need help maintaining muscle strength as you undergo this transformation, get in touch with Rachel Garrod at Better Breathing Physio. Tel. (+34) 699 501 190 www.betterbreathingphysio.com.
AGE RELATED EATING
MEDICAL MINUTES BY JOHN SCHIESZER
Did you know that as we age our nutritional needs change? What we eat as we get older has a direct effect on our well-being and it’s essential for adults over 60 to focus on the right food choices to maintain health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It’s all about nutrient dense foods and fewer calories for older adults to maintain a healthy weight and overall wellbeing. Key nutrients include calcium, vitamin D, potassium, fibre, vitamin B12, and protein, all of which play important roles in maintaining muscle mass, bone strength, and general health.
Seafood, beans, peas, lentils, and fortified soy products are excellent sources of protein, while dairy or fortified alternatives provide essential calcium for bone health. Vitamin B12 absorption decreases with age, so eating enough protein and fortified foods is crucial. And using herbs and spices, such as basil, parsley, coriander and mint, adds flavour to dishes without the need for extra salt, which should also be limited in older adults’ diets. As well as reducing salt, limiting added sugars and saturated fats is important for minimising the risk of chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Staying hydrated with water is equally important as the sense of thirst decreases with age.
The MIND diet, (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay), a hybrid of the Mediterranean and DASH diets, is designed to promote brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. It emphasises foods that support brain function such as leafy green vegetables, whole grains, berries, nuts, beans, olive oil, fish, poultry, and wine (in moderation).
In a study of more than 14,000 participants, those who followed the MIND diet showed a reduced risk of cognitive impairment. While this doesn’t prove that the diet prevents cognitive decline, it does indicate a promising association.
Incorporating healthy dietary habits into daily life can help older adults maintain good health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and potentially protect cognitive function as they age. Making simple changes, like choosing nutrient-rich foods and staying hydrated, can have a positive impact on overall well-being.

NAOMI: IN FASHION
DISCOVER THE UNEQUALLED CAREER
OF THE ICONIC FASHION MODEL AT V&A SOUTH KENSINGTON
If you love fashion, design, and nineties supermodels, NAOMI: In Fashion at the V&A South Kensington in London will undoubtedly fill your cup. It’s the first major museum exhibition devoted to a model and tells the story behind the 40-year career of British icon Naomi Campbell.
Produced in collaboration with the model turned activist, NAOMI showcases her remarkable journey through high fashion. It draws upon Campbell’s own extensive wardrobe of haute couture and ready-to-wear ensembles to feature a jaw-dropping collection of around 100 looks from designers such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Versace, and John Galliano. A visually striking installation of fashion photography from industry legends like Nick Knight, Tim Walker, and Steven Meisel, curated by Edward Enninful OBE, confirms the model’s status as a powerhouse in the world of fashion, and a mannequin sprawled on the floor in black velvet and 12-inch platform heels,
in a nod towards Campbell’s 1993 fall on Vivienne Westwood’s catwalk, is one of a host of quirky touches.
The exhibition also recognises her mentors including prominent public figures such as Nelson Mandela, who opened Campbell’s eyes to social injustice and inspired her to use her platform for social change. She has advocated for equity from an early age, joining the Black Girls Coalition in 1989, fronting the 2007 ‘black issue’ of Vogue Italia, and campaigning for The Diversity Coalition since 2013 to champion diversity on the catwalk.
NAOMI: In Fashion is a must-see for anyone interested in fashion, culture, or the power of one woman’s influence on a global stage.

Sustainability took centre stage at Feria Hábitat Valencia, with exhibitors showcasing their eco-friendly materials and production processes. A strong presence of recycled materials such as reclaimed wood, biodegradable
textiles, and energy-efficient lighting solutions were noted, as was the trend for products with modular designs, promoting longevity and multifunctionality. Minimalist furniture design was also a focus, using natural materials and organic forms to bring warmth and comfort into contemporary spaces. While the trend for neutral tones still prevails, many designers infused their collections with bold colours and playful accents. Vibrant hues, such as terracotta, mustard yellow, and deep blues, were used to create contrast and liven up spaces, offering consumers a broader palette to enhance their interiors. Industry experts and leading designers held numerous discussions and presentations, offering insights into emerging trends, sustainability, and the future of design. These talks were well-attended by professionals keen to stay ahead of the curve.

YOUR GUIDE TO TOURIST, SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM RENTALS IN ANDALUCÍA
ARTICLE SUPPLIED BY WELEX LAWYERS & ACCOUNTANTS
If you own a property on the Costa del Sol and are considering renting it out as a stable source of income, our guide to rentals in Andalucia provides everything you need to know about the difference between short and long term rentals, and holiday lets - and the legislation that each one entails. Tourist rentals are short-term leases offered to travellers or tourists for temporary stays, characterised by duration (typically ranging from a few days to several weeks) and mostly found in high-demand tourist areas. They are commonly advertised on platforms like Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking. com, and often include services such as cleaning, internet connection, air conditioning, and occasionally a reception area or planned tourist activities. In Andalucía, to offer a property for tourist rental, you need to meet specific requirements and obtain a Tourist Rental Licence, which involves registering the property with the Andalucía Tourism Registry. However, if your property is part of a ‘comunidad’, the homeowners’ association can also decide to limit, prohibit, or restrict tourist rentals if a qualified majority of 60 per cent or more of the homeowners vote in favour of the restrictions. In this case, you can still legally rent your property through a short-term or long-term lease.
Short-term rentals are a temporary lease that are intended for longer stays without the commitment of a long-term contract. They typically last between one and six months, and attract groups such as displaced
workers, students on short exchanges, or people between moves. These properties may be furnished and offer additional services but are not as comprehensive as tourist rentals. Conditions and prices are also generally more stable. In Andalucía, no specific licence is required for these rentals. Long-term rentals are residential leases with a duration of at least one year, and with the possibility of renewal. They are intended for people who view the property as their primary residence and involve a greater commitment from both the landlord and tenant. These rentals are governed by the Law of Urban Leases – Ley de Arrendamientos Urbanos (LAU) – and are considered residential leases for habitual use. They do not require licences, additional registration or permits, as is the case of tourist rentals.
If you are interested in renting your property as a short or long term rental or holiday let, Welex is here to assist you. Our team of experts will apply for licences, draw up leases, and provide detailed information about any regulations, to make your journey as stress-free as possible.
