magazine possible.
I
know it is spring because the schools have had their Spring Break and Wal-Mart is starting to put out their plants for sale. It is time to start planting your garden and it is time for the annual Wine Walk in Granbury. Outdoor activities are becoming numerous. Please check our calendar for local activities. It is time to pay your taxes, but it is also time for tax refunds. You can buy an RV at Bennett’s Camping Center or a boat at Fun-N-Sun Boats. We have a lot of car dealers and it is time to put your top down or open your sun roof. I noticed that the golf courses are picking up too. We have around 100 activities listed on the calendar.

STEVO’s GOT TALENT G
This month, we interview Stephen Torres, a local graphic designer (affectionately known around town as “Stevo”), on his artistic influences and projects he is passionate about. My Hometowns Texas Magazine: What made you stay in Granbury when it seems other artists tend to flock to major metropolitan areas? Stephen Torres: Family. Without them, I would not be where I am at today. They have supported me and believe in everything I do. Also, Granbury is conveniently located to just about everything! MHTM: Where did you learn the skills and gain the knowledge you, as an artist, possess today? What drew you into the creative field?
ST: I make it a goal to learn something new every day and will always continue to learn. I was very blessed to grow up in a household that supports art and creativity. Much of the knowledge I possess can be attributed to past and present instructors and coworkers. I have also been fortunate to be tasked with a wide range of projects through work. My interest in art and technology drew me into the field. The idea of using my imagination and creating something from nothing, on a daily basis, seemed too good to be true.
MHTM: Who is the person who most influenced you in business?
ST: I would have to say my dad, John.
ST: “You become like the people you spend time with.” MHTM: What was the most significant hurdle you had to overcome to get where you are today? ST: Trying to think like an artist and work like a professional. When I create art, I want to be as free and unrestricted as possible. With work, there are deadlines and expectations. Finding a balance between the two is tough. However, once it is met, the work speaks for itself. This is something that will continue to be a battle, but will benefit me in future years.
MHTM: Where do you draw your inspiration from, or what inspires you most, as an artist? ST: Inspiration is everywhere and comes in all forms. Music, fine art, photography, movies and nature all play a huge role. However, I think what inspires me the most is all the possibilities. I hope to do this forever and I’m always stoked to take on the next project.
MHTM: What is the best advice you have ever received?
MHTM: What is the one thing you would do differently if you were just starting in this business? Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
He has a tenacious work ethic and has always taught me that dedication will reward one in the end. He is a direct influence in the way I present myself, and how I set goals and standards for myself.
ST: Realizing the difference between defending your work and being closed minded earlier on – and have fun, don’t stop, explore, learn from your past and create your own future! MHTM: Do you have any projects or shows coming up that you want our readers to look out for?

ART ST: I am currently exhibiting some of my latest digital mixed media works with a handful of very talented local artists at a new gallery, “Gallery at the Granbury Theatre Company” in Celebration Hall on the Historic Granbury Square. It is open daily! I also recently illustrated a children’s book titled, “Michael The Coyote” by Shyla Hale. It is available for purchase at Barnes & Noble.
attending the Art Institute of Fort Worth. He is currently employed by Granbury’s own, enVision Creative Services, where he is a photographer, graphic and web designer. In his spare time, Torres enjoys painting and spending time with friends and family. Every March, Torres portrays the city’s namesake, General Hiram B. Granbury, during General Granbury’s Birthday Celebration.
MHTM: What do you want to be doing in 20 years? Do you have a few things on your artistic “bucket list?” ST: In 20 years, I hope to be teaching at a university and doing selective work on the side. Hmm…artistic bucket list. . .I’d have to say to take photos from a hot air balloon and to create a comic book or graphic novel. MHTM: Thank you, Stephen. As you have read, Stephen Torres is a down-to-earth individual with equal amounts of creative soul and business saavy. Torres has resided in Granbury for over 13 years, is a graduate of Granbury High School and is currently 6 - My Hometowns Texas Cultural & Entertainment Magazine

Raised
on the Outlaws of Country music, Rocky was a professional musician by the age of 18. He wanted to lead a band that focused on original music, and Texas Country. That band came about shortly after moving to Weatherford where he met Marc Holtsclaw, the rest of the gang including Mike Murphy soon followed. Their different musical backgrounds, and years of professional music making, create a unique blend of old and new school country, mixed with southern rock. Influences include: Lynyrd Skynrd, AC/DC, The Beatles, George Strait, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan and too many more to mention. “We get asked a lot, ‘What kind of music do you play’? That’s a hard question to answer. We play blues, country, southern rock and original music. I guess we could best be described as Texas Eclectic. If you want to find out exactly what that is, the best thing to do is just come to a show.” The Rocky Lott Band has fans that come from all walks of life
ROCKY LOTT BAND and listen to all types of music. So far their new EP, “Rolling The Dice” is getting airplay on a few stations with the first single, “Ain’t Gotta Go Home”. Theater Written by Joseph Stein and based on Sholem Aleichem’s short story Tevye and His Daughters, Fiddler on the Roof debuted at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway Sept. 22, 1964, and ran for 3,242 shows, becoming the longestrunning musical in 1972.
THEATRE
It won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor (Zero Mostel), Best Supporting Actress (Maria Karnilova) and Best Director (Jerome Robbins) as well as awards for author, producer, choreographer, costume design and
composer and lyricist. In 1991 it won another Tony Award as Best Revival of a Musical. A 1971 movie version directed by Norman Jewison was nominated for Best Picture and picked up three Academy Awards. Fiddler on the Roof was one of the first Broadway musicals to deal with serious issues such as persecution, poverty and holding on to one’s beliefs. Set in 1905 in a small Jewish village in Russia, it is the story of dairyman Tevye
and his attempts to preserve his family’s traditions in a changing world. Tevye’s daughter Tzeitel wants to marry a poor tailor instead of the middle-aged butcher her father has chosen for her in the tradition of arranged marriages. Tevye is forced to choose between his daughter’s happiness and his culture’s beloved traditions. The musical produced well-known songs such as Sunrise, Sunset, If I Were a Rich Man, and Matchmaker.
