Cultural & Entertainment Magazine Welcome 2017 – Another Chance to Be Particular! “What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.” I read that somewhere recently. I’m not sure who wrote it, but I appreciate the thoughtful insight. What will we bring to 2017? That’s certainly food for thought. Many of us will make a list of resolutions to start off the year; most of which will fall by the wayside in short order. Maybe it would be best to consider what has changed or improved or become unbearable in the past year and just choose to drop what isn’t working for us…sort of like a heavy or unnecessary piece of luggage. We will take with us only the people and things that make us better individuals or add something positive to our lives.
Someone once told me that the best advice they ever got was from their grandfather. Each time they would travel to see him throughout the years he would say goodbye at the end of each visit with a warm hug and the instruction to “be particular”. “Bye now – and, be particular”, he would say. I remember thinking what an odd term that was but, when you think about it, being particular is a great idea that works well in almost any situation: choosing friends or significant others; buying any item at all, from cars to groceries; looking for employment; choosing a book to read, a movie to watch, a hairdresser, a doctor…the list goes on and on. Many a heartbreak or a mistake could be avoided by following Grandpa’s sage advice. In an effort to help our readers make this year the best yet, all of us here at My Hometowns Texas, are

dedicated to making sure that we supply you with all the latest and greatest in entertainment and cultural experiences to choose from. We know you rely on us to keep you informed and up to date every month and we don’t take that lightly; we’re particular so you can be too. So, here’s to a new year and an opportunity to make a fresh start, get rid of anything not working, make what does work even better, and bring only the best with you into 2017. Happy New Year Friends!

Darla also has hand-designed and crafted décor and crosses that are made and displayed in the shop.
A Little Birdie Told Me – A Craft Workshop
Darla Boozer learned the art of craft from an early age. “My grandmother, Haw Hee, was a crafter before crafting was cool,” says Darla. Her mom was also a great teacher in the art of craft and she has also learned from ladies, or “birdies” from all over the globe while she and her husband Garry and three children lived internationally. Darla was also an elementary school teacher for four years.
Channel your inner-crafter and take time to check out this unique shop! A Little Birdie Told Me 1372 E. Hwy 377 / Granbury, Texas 76048 (681) 205-3155
After living all over the world, Darla and Garry returned to their home town of Granbury where they had graduated from Granbury High School in 1977 and 78. In October of 2016 Darla opened her shop and realized a dream. A Little Birdie Told Me came about, Darla says, “due to all the ladies all over the world telling me the way they created things and from the wisdom handed down from generation to generation.”
In her shop Darla teaches the art of crafts in workshops for adults, teens, tweens, and children two to nine years old. She and her staff help every step of the way by teaching and showing you step by step or by just letting you go on your own – whatever you might want or need to bring out the artisan in you. They supply everything needed and you create a masterpiece. As Darla says, “It’s art, so there is no wrong way of creating.” 6 - My Hometowns Texas Cultural & Entertainment Magazine

ach year the communities in our area put on an enormous variety of special events, festivals and holiday offerings. As these annual events continue to draw large crowds, the city planners are constantly working to add more each year to the calendar. 2017
promises to be another banner year for fun in our part of the world! It seems as if Granbury had something to offer every time you turned around last year with a year-long schedule of family friendly and special interest events and festivals. Their hard working Chamber
says, “Any season is in-season for a trip to Granbury!”
Moon Festival of the Arts, a collaborative effort between the Historic Granbury Merchant’s Association and the Granbury Arts Alliance. The Festival features fine art, food, and music; showcasing some of the most promising up and coming artists in the area. Another fall favorite is the Granbury Paranormal Expo Street Festival that brings the public face to face with ghost hunters, psychics, UFO experts, and all matters of the weird and unexplained. Winter is a special time in Granbury and includes The Lighted Christmas Parade that officially kicks off the season followed closely by Granbury’s Candlelight Tour of Homes featuring some of the oldest and most intriguing architectural buildings and homes in the city open annually for the public to see.
From the Granbury Wine Walk, held in April, where vendors and local wineries are set up around the square, pairing fine wines with delicious food and spectacular music, to the wonderful Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration, ranked among the top 10 fireworks shows in the Southwest, the spring and summer seasons are bustling in Granbury. Weatherford also gives a nod to each season throughout the year with its own contributions to the ever growing list of festivals and events. The popular Weatherford Blooms event is held in March around the historic downtown square. It features an enormous variety of eclectic garden gadgets and botanic themed items. Garden and horticulture professionals are also on hand to answer your gardening questions. April begins with Chandor Gardens Annual Spring Fling where area artists and artisans are set up throughout the gardens demonstrating and selling their wares alongside food vendors, musicians, and face painters for the kids. July brings
The Parker County Peach Festival. This annual event is dedicated to the noble peach and includes art, music, and food, but, best of all, peach ice cream, peach salsa, peach cocktails, peach pies….and the list goes on and on! In 2016 the City of Weatherford premiered its first ever “Spark in the Park”. Held in the recently built amphitheater, just adjacent to Heritage Park, this spectacular display of fireworks and music looks like it will be one of Weatherford’s most popular events for many years to come. October is host to two major Chandor Gardens events; The Autumn Art Walk, where area artists display and sell their work and Goblins in the Gardens, a spook-free, family oriented,

trick-or- treat afternoon where costumes are definitely encouraged. Weatherford’s Hometown Heritage Stampede is held in November of each year and gives folks the chance to see a real cattle drive and chuck wagon cooks in action. December in Weatherford is chock full of fun events that include Christmas on the Square, the Candlelight Tour or Homes and the recent addition of the extremely popular Holiday in the Park.
From Granbury to Glen Rose, Aledo to Weatherford, every town in our area has a host of special annual offerings to delight and intrigue visitors all year long. Keep your Hometowns Texas Calendar of Events handy so you won’t miss a single one!

Activities Happy New Year –
Taking steps to the best year of your life! By HealthyMeNow.Net
Put yourself first
Loving yourself is the most crucial requirement for living your greatest life. When you feel good about who you are, you radiate an undeniable magnetic energy that attracts good things to you. It may be necessary to say no to someone else in order to say yes to yourself. We have all heard the instructions of an airline attendant reminding us to put on our own oxygen mask before we help others with theirs. This metaphor for self-care accurately expresses why it is important. It says, that if you can’t take care of yourself for yourself, do it for others. Encourage yourself by saying “I am caring for myself so that I am better able to care for others”. It also helps to remember that self-care doesn’t have to be massively time-consuming acts. The best remedy for taking care of yourself may be a small, daily ritual; taking a half-hour for yourself to meditate, journal, or just be. Whatever you decide, making some small gesture where you put yourself first every day will pay off for you and your loved ones.
Forgiveness is freedom
Remember that forgiveness is for you and releases the ties that hold you to your past. Being forgiving doesn’t mean you’re accepting what happened or the behavior of the other person. It means you’re extending grace in the knowledge that no one is perfect. You don’t even have to tell the other person that you’ve forgiven them. You can simply hold the forgiveness in your heart. Allow healing to occur with these three words, “I forgive you.”
Accomplishments 2016
Sometimes our minds focus on what didn’t work. Ignore the bumps and start with the positive instead. Think back to where you were at the beginning of the year and list everything you achieved—even the small things. Remember all your positive accomplishments, write them down then place where you can see them daily to remind yourself of all the great things you did.
Lighten Your Load
It’s difficult to clearly see what needs to be done when your environment is burdened with half-completed projects, unfinished to-do lists, old files, clothes that don’t fit, and equipment that no longer works or serves any purpose. Get ready to clean out the old and make room for the new. What could you give away? What needs to be thrown away? What are you holding on to that no longer serves you.
Give Thanks for What You’ve Learned
A sense of gratitude for life’s hard lessons means, “Thank you. I got it. Now I’m ready to move on.” Gratitude not only means, “I got the lesson.” It also means, “How can I bless another through my experience?”
Keep a Positive Outlook
The slate is clean. Now go explore all the new possibilities for this year with an open mind and heart.
