STORY

Sandra and Marc Weinert opened the first Hotel Guldsmeden in Guldsmedegade in Aarhus in 1999 – hence the name. ‘‘Guldsmeden’’ can mean 2 things in Danish, a goldsmith and a dragonfly, and that is how our little winged icon was born.

Sandras and Marcs family has grown, both in terms of kids and number of hotels - they are today the proud parents of 3 children - each of whom of course has a hotel named after them: Axel, Babette and Manon. Today, in addition to the now 27-

-Junglefishroom hotel in Aarhus, the Guldsmeden Hotels group encompasses 5 hotels and a capacity of more than 500 rooms in Copenhagen, a 50-room hotel attractively located near Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen in Oslo, a 65-room hotel overlooking the Esja mountain in Reykjavik, and we will be opening in Potsdamer Strasse in Berlin in the summer of 2017.

A gorgeous rental villa in Menton in the south of France as well as a luxury resort in Ubud, Bali, is also a part of the expansion that the Guldsmeden Hotels group has seen over the past decade.

AX EL Guldsmeden opened its 129 rooms in 2007, in a beautiful turn-of-thecentury building, and is still our biggest hotel in terms of number of rooms – only to become bigger still, as we have taken over a hotel in the neigbhouring street and will expand with approximately 80 rooms, bringing Axel´s total up to more than 200.

BABETTE OUR FLOWER CHILD LIVES IN THE QUEEN’S BACKYARD Babette Guldsmeden is the first Copenhagen hotel outside what has traditionally been our comfort zone of Vesterbro. We´re loving it here, the location is just as unique in a completely different way.

The building, with all its charming nooks and crannies is a pleasure to be in, and we´re very proud of the orangerie in particular, linking the two parts of the house. The courtyard to the back is a little oasis, and with the coloured strings of lights, comfy couches, and mini wall-mounted fireplaces, it´s a wonderful place to unwind.

66 Guldsmeden (formerly Carlton) opened in 2002 as the first of the Guldsmeden Hotels in Copenhagen, cementing our position as pioneers of the new Vesterbro! We´ve been through a number of renovations and expansions along the way, and the house now has a total of 74 lovely rooms, with the Carlton Cantina café at its very heart.

Green Globe is a 360degree sustainability certification, that ensures our very best efforts in every as pect of the daily operations of our hotels. The harder it is to achieve, the simpler it is to maintain. This has been our experience.

Setting a high bar, and subjecting ourselves to scutiny that leaves no stone unturned, means that we are now at liberty to focus on our good atmosphere and hostmanship, and not worry about whether our efforts have been thorough enough.

Vesterbro is one of the coolest areas in the Danish capital, and has been named as one of the foremost hipster neighbourhoods on the planet.

COPEN BABETTE is located in historical Copenhagen, close to major attractions such as the Royal Palace and the Little Mermaid.

Kastellet, just across from Babette, is a beautifully preserved 16th century star fortress, that still houses a church and a lovely old windmill.

Don´t miss a walk or run in this park, which is like stepping several centuries back in time.

The heart of inner-city Copenhagen is only a few minutes´walk away, with the picturesque canals of Nyhavn leading up to the King´s New Square and Strøget, the pedestrian shopping street where high-street meets couture. Don´t miss all the winding, cobble-stoned medieval side streets, home to a myriad of funky specialty shops, cafés and much, much more.

Formerly an infamous red-light, working-class neighbourhood, Vesterbro´s turnaround began with the transformation of the old cattle market Øksnehallen into a light and stylish exhibition hall.

The whole area around Øksnehallen, the former meatpacking district, is now completely re-invented and abuzz with amazing restaurants, nightclubs, galleries, cafés, green oases and much more – while still maintaining its gritty & urban rock´n´roll feel.

Along Vesterbrogade and Istedgade, you will also find plenty of bars, restaurants, and designer stores. And don´t miss Vesterbro´s own food street, Frenchy Værnedamsvej – a gourmet’s paradise with specialist cheese, wine, fish and chocolate shops, as well as cafes and grocers.

Oslo Guldsmeden is ideally located close to the most popular newly developed areas of Oslo, Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, and only a few minutes´ walk from the Royal Palace and the Nationaltheatret train station. Only a few minutes´ walk from Oslo Guldsmeden, Aker Brygge is a buzzing urban waterfront with lots of dining and shopping options, and a great place for simply wandering around and enjoying life.

Neighbouring Tjuvholmen is the newest of Oslo’s boroughs. The area is characterized by architectural diversity and unique outdoor areas, and is host to art galleries, museums and great restaurants.

In Denmark, Aarhus is known as the City of Smiles, and with good reason - there´s such a good atmosphere in this city, which has traditionally always been the physical and spiritual home to many artists, musicians and university students.

Our particular area is called the Quartier Latin, inspired by Paris, as the feel of these streets are similar to those of our French namesake.

It´s the oldest area of Aarhus, dating back around 500 years or more. When in Aarhus, make sure you explore the neighborhood, and sample all that we have to offer cosy cafés, wonderful gourmet restaurants, specialty shops and artisans, and lots of chic, edgy or quirky design shops, galleries, record and secondhand shops.

Berlin It´s been our dream for years to open a Guldsmeden in Berlin, and it´s finally come true! This city has managed to retain its free-wheeling, creative spirit while be-

Policy Our in-house restaurant is a testament to our deep and abiding love for food. We’re always hungry!

At the same time, we won´t sink our teeth into just anything – it has to be organic (of course), it has to be healthy ish and it has to be mouth-watering good. There´s a lot of talk about microplastic at the moment, and at the risk of seeming to run with the latest eco-fad, we have to say that the situation really is quite bleak.

The gravity dawned on us while in the process of developing our iLoveEcoEssentials products - microplastic ends up in the sea through many bathroom products, from toothpaste to creams, soaps and shampoos.

why we do it The latest developments in our part of the world has put a spotlight on the children of families of restricted means.

When refugees, unemployed and other of our fellow world citizens are forced to live on a very bare minimum, what is always one of the first things to go? Not just Christmas presents or the possibility of going on school trips etc. The children´s opportunity to join their friends and classmates in organized team sports, which is such a big part of Danish society, and integral to integration,

also becomes non-essential to daily survival.

Which is completely understandable, but such a shame! Not only do the children not get the exercise and fun with peers that would be so good for them, they also miss out on a socializing team experience, and – for our fellow citizens from other parts of the world – the opportunity to learn the language, make friends for life, and grow up to be truly integrated members of society (and take care of us, when we´re old, let´s not forget..)

8. Never throw our things that still work – pens left in rooms etc.

9. Never let the water run unnecessarily.

Turn off taps when possible during cleaning.

10. All magazines and carrier bags left in rooms are to be collected in the lobby, for use by other guests.

11. Always report dripping taps or running toilets, so we don´t waste water.
