May Division Council Meeting

May 15, 2014

Future Plans We were greeted by a pack of candies as soon as we entered Valley High School. Then, we found our seats in front and listened to the previous events and upcoming events for key club. Our Lieutenant Governor stood in front all of us to discuss future plans. After, presidents or representatives from all the clubs that came, explained a summary of the previous events in their clubs. Finally, we were allowed to eat pizza and delicious brownie snacks. When the meeting was over, all the clubs unwrapped the plastic bags of goodies and ate their tasty, sugary candies.

Gibson Middle School Judging

Ma y 22, 2014

Please Don’t Judge Me We arrived at Gibson Middle School with high hopes of judging exciting presentations from middle school students. I can honestly say that we were not disappointed of the group of middle school students that we had the pleasure of judging. Their presentations were very distinctive and unique from each other. Not only that, but it was awfully entertaining to hear all of those different topics. Some students were so committed that they wore a full body costume and someone even brought their dog! All three hours of service gave us so much hope for the future generation. -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

"Going to Gibson Middle School was a terrific experience. Each of the kids had a unique topic in their presentations. Not only did I think I help them grow, but this trip helped me grow a little as well." -Anthony Nguyen

B.A.D Obstacle Challenge

May 24, 2014

Are we BAD enough? The B.A.D. Obstacle Challenge took place at the South Point Arena on May 24th. It consisted of a 7K course, approximately 4.4 miles, of various obstacle challenges. The whole purpose of this event was to benefit Autism Speaks, which is an organization dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, and cure for autism. It is also meant to raise public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, society and to bringing hope to all who have to deal with the hardships of this disorder. As volunteers, Liberty Key Club volunteered bright and early in the morning to manage the food for the participants and help in clipping off badges off of the participants' shoes. Even though the event was tiring, the Key Clubbers still enjoyed themselves in helping out others. We are definitely considering in participating in this event once again.

Fundraising for Leukemia

May 22-29, 2014

Tubes of Hope Basically, all of the key club officers and a couple members volunteered to collect donations in tubelike bottles. The donations of these bottles were supporting the cause of the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma while helping a kind-hearted man, Louie Cellona, to be the man of the year. In Liberty, the students were generous enough to raise money for the cause and be the school that raised the most money. I went around school, mostly asking donations from close friends, but had the pleasure to have more donations from generous students and staff.

Three Squares

Why can’t we eat these foods?

May 31, 2014

We got in the Three Square building with clear instructions from a volunteer staff. As volunteers, we were separated in three distinctively different jobs. The first job being the labeling and taping of the boxes used to store the food in. Then, the second job is to store the right amount of food in the boxes from the wide selection of chips, cookies, pudding, etc. Lastly, the third job is to weigh the box and make sure it is of a certain weight, then stack them in a pile. Everyone was definitely exhausted by the end of the day, but this was definitely an unforgettable event. -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)
