Bass E.S. Fall Festival

October 24, 2014

With the event being so close to the Wallin Elementary School festival, only a few members showed up. However, it was mentioned that this event was a lot more fun because of their entertaining booths, clever ticket system and seeing kids with outrageous costumes walking everywhere. We had a blast helping Bass Elementary School! -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

“The event was memorable because I made lots of people smile.” -Ethan Hill

“As we grow older, we reminisce in our childhood and younger years, never forget that child you once were IS still in you.” -Austin Collado

“Rionna and I learned to twirl cotton candy, which was an unforgettable experience. It was a ‘sweet’ event! This memory will definitely ‘stick’ to us.” -Kayla Narciso (Secretary)

“It was fun hanging out with my friends for the last year of volunteering in here.”

-Charlene Clemente

UNICEF boxes

October 23– November 14, 2014

“Trick or Please give a change for our organization/club” We handed out small, orange UNICEF boxes to our members to help fundraise for the organization. It was the perfect time to hold the fundraiser because Halloween was right around the corner and members could ask for both candies and donations.. Otherwise, most people, like myself, just asked donations at school especially since most students don’t like keeping change. The members who participated received an hour per $5 they raised. I was personally surprised at how many people were willing to help the organization after hearing a description about it. Some people even put as much as $20 in my box. It was definitely worth the cash. That’s why I poured in as much cash as I could everyday in the tiny, orange box.

Fall Rally Preparation

October 11 and November 8, 2014

The Spirit Sticks have our names written all over it We had two Fall Rally preparation, with the first one being mandatory. Firstly, they gave us copies of three different cheers with significant similarities with certain schools’ cheers. With three unfamiliar cheers right in front of us, we went over them about a million times before taking a water break or an ice breaker to avoid going insane. Then, the next time we met, there were significantly fewer participants since it wasn’t mandatory. Our spirit leaders implemented spirt supplies in our cheers, like fake money, black, pink, and white streamers, and Ziploc bags. Then, we had a minicompetition between different sections of our group and had fun doing so. The spirit leaders definitely motivated and taught us enough to help us win that spirit stick!

World Food Championship 2014

November 15, 2014

Drooling over Gourmet Food This past weekend, I, along with a foodie friend who was there just for fun, volunteered at the World Food Championships in Downtown Las Vegas. Being the highest stakes food competition in the world, we weren't surprised to witness the rivalry between the chefs heat up. At the 3rd Street Stage we saw a mouthwatering demonstration by one of the contestants representing The Happy Egg Co. Alas, volunteers and spectators did not get an opportunity to taste this sweet confection. Here we also watched--more like smelled--much of the culinary action occurring during the Top Ten Round of the World Bacon Championship. We didn't get to sample any bacon either, sad to say. At the end of the competition, however, we finally got to work. All the volunteers got together and cleaned up. As we had been starving the whole day, we were tempted to eat even the scraps left over, but we later ordered pizza to satiate our hunger. As a thanks to the volunteers, few of us were given World Food Championships t-shirts autographed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who had visited the competition site a few days prior. Overall, the event was a great experience, but my only wish would be to sample all the gourmet foods. -Hannah Felize DeLuna

Fall Rally

November 15, 2014

The Unfortunate Fate of D28S We stepped into the Golden Bear Theater with high hopes from our Fall Rally Prep. However, other schools proved to be a challenge as they screamed their hearts out. We were distraught at not even making the first round, but cheered on for the other districts anyway. After our unfortunate loss, we cheered ourselves up by visiting all kinds of rides and stores at the park. I was in a group with two people and the first thing we decided to do was eat a funnel cake! Oh, yeah, they were so delicious that we finished it up in seconds. Then, we made our way to the best rollercoaster at the park, The Goliath. It was a two hour wait but totally worth it! The drop was insanely scary and fun at the same time. My group definitely enjoyed it. Then, we walked all the way to the carnival games and got ripped off by the impossible goals of the games because of their tempting prices. Afterwards, we ate dinner and shopped around for a short while. It didn't take too long until the day was gone and we brought our exhausted legs into the bus. It was definitely a day to remember! -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)
