Freshman Orientation

August 21, 2014

Recruiting Fresh Meat We began setting up our booth near the entrance to attract more members. Ky built an intricate and awesome Instagram frame to get people to be involved in taking their very first Key Club picture. Plus, we printed out a ton of brochures and made a handful of little clothespins labeled ‘LHS Key Club, Room 200.’ I didn't expect so much freshmen to be rushing in the Cafeteria to join multiple clubs. In the hectic event, we roamed around to get these students into our club by answering the infamous question, “What is Key Club?” We say that, “Key Club is basically a club that does community service with spirit! It is the largest and oldest student-led organization in Liberty High School.” The freshies either ask more in depth questions or move through the flow of the crowd. We also hold a sign up sheet that they could print their name and contact information in for us to see how many freshmen are interested in joining our club. This event was very successful because by the end of the night, our sign up sheet was halfway full. -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

First Meeting

August 28, 2014

HOW DO YOU FEEL?! We were extremely pleased once we saw a huge crowd swarming into room 200. The meeting started off with the usual pledge of allegiance and the key club pledge. Then, as officers, we all introduced our name, position and one interesting fact about us. As we finished the introductions, the lights went off, and a simple yet outstanding video played on the screen. It states the overall purpose and goals of Key Club and it stunned the audience with its amazing special effects and graphics. After the video, our president, Rionna, briefly explained what key club is and the future events we’ve planned. The first meeting was informative but as short as 10 minutes. This was all because of the fact that members had sports, ride, or other conflicts that can’t prolong their stay. However, dedicated and interested members stayed after and signed up for our service events! -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

Book Drive

August 28 — Sepetember 10, 2014

Free books? That’s the library As their first source of getting hours, our members were eager to donate books. Not only that, but we talked about the worthy cause of where the books are going to during the meeting. All of the donated books make their way to different elementary schools to help teachers, who spend too much money just to buy books for their students. The money to buying those books are not offered by the school itself, so the incoming books from our club could be a pleasant surprise for them. I took part in this charitable event myself by offering my old, read books from the past. My sister and I sorted through our books and were able to donate 18 books. From high school novels to elementary picture books, we got up to a stunning 247 books in one week.

Youth Leadership Conference

September 06, 2014

What makes a leader? The third annual Youth Leadership Conference, hosted by the Rising Asian Pacific Americans Coalition For Diversity organization (RAPACD), was an amazing experience for the officers to attend. There, we learned about key points for leadership, possible careers, and in-school opportunities such as internships and scholarships. Several types of leaders shared moving speeches as well as advice for the attendees. Among the speakers were student speakers who spoke about their experiences and leadership roles. Other guest speakers were from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who spoke about their careers and experiences. They also gave more clarification on the CIA, and gave information about their internship and scholarship programs. Complimentary food and entertainment was given to everyone who attended. Other organizations that attended were the Heart of Polynesia association and the Henderson Host Lions Charter Club. At the end of the conference, we were awarded with several certificates of attendance from the RAPACD, Nevada’s Senator, the United States Congresswoman, and the United States Senators.

September Division Council Meeting

September 11, 2014

Friends? What are those? For our September DCM, we made our way to SECTA High School. We were amazed by the school’s architectural designs as we stepped into the campus. Anyway, The meeting started off with the usual presidential reports from all the clubs’ presidents or club representatives. Then, our lieutenant governor discussed a few words concerning RTC and Fall Rally. Awards were also given out for Club, officer, and member of the month! After the speech was over, we settled down and ate the incredibly tasty pizza. However, there was a special challenge this month, which was to sit next to a complete stranger and strike a conversation. I have to admit that I struggled with this at first because I am socially awkward, but eventually managed to meet a bunch of different new faces that I had so much in common with. -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

Key Club Olympics

September 13, 2014

Sweating with Happiness Everyone wore a yellow shirt and blue shorts or trousers to represent our country for this event, the Philippines! The Key Club Olympics consisted of several different activities that prove our physical and intellectual strength. About 10 schools participated in this fun-filled event and competed for medals and trophies. Our runners, Cameron and Chris managed to snatch 3rd place for us in the short distance run! To add to that, we received 2nd place on the long distance run as our whole club sped to the finish line. Finally, Rionna proved her skills as a hula-hooper by getting us 3rd place for the contest! Not only did I have so much fun this day, but I had the chance to bond with my friends. I think that the unforgettable memories from today are worth all the exhaustion in the world. -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

Car Wash

September 20, 2014

Our car wash event was a total success, with almost 50 members helping with washing or drying the cars. Other members held the signs on the sidewalks to attract more cars. We rotated our roles every half and hour and had so much fun. Since it was a potluck as well, members brought donuts, chips, and even Cane’s! -Ian Medina (Bulletin Editor)

“ I loved talking and meeting a bunch of people and washing the cars with my peers! “

-Kateleen Macaraeg

“ Just being here and having fun was my favorite part.”

-Almarc Aquino

“ It was a great feeling to be helping the community and getting close to the other members as well. “ -Kristina Cruz

“ My favorite part in this entire event was just covering the cars with soap!” -Chris Ortega
