LEOPARD Incorporated in interior design for ages, we like to think of leopard as a neutral! Most commonly used in black and brown tones, the wildly chic motif is also offered in a vast array of color palettes, enabling you to introduce it into just about any aesthetic.

3) 4) 5) 6)

Here are a few ways we love to use leopard: 1) Add a pop of pattern with leopard ottomans in a family room. 2) Use wall-to-wall leopard carpet in a den or media room. Wallpaper an accent wall in a room or an entire bathroom in a leopard-print wall covering. Bring a neutral room to life with a leopard area rug. Liven up a sofa with a pair of leopard pillows. Use artwork with a leopard motif as a jumping off point for a room’s design.

FUN FACT!

French designer, Madeleine Castaing (1894-1992), well known for her use of leopard, popularized the pattern as wall-to-wall carpeting in the 1940’s. Not only a fan of its appearance, she also often expressed her fondness for the pattern’s ability to conceal muddy footprints.

A Designated Space for Studying

Built-in desks for kids are one of our most common requests from clients when building or remodeling a home. In my own home, we have a small niche between our daughters’ bedrooms that we recently made over to give them a stylish space for studying and doing homework. The built-ins help maximize storage and workspace. All of us absolutely love the corner window seat between the two desks - especially the dogs! I selected an indoor/outdoor performance fabric knowing that the corner would get a ton of use. Even the decorative pillows are all covered in performance fabrics, making the space as kid and dog friendly as possible.

The wallpaper was the jumping off point for the color palette, and with its bookshelf theme, it is perfect for their study area. It has every color imaginable in the design, so it was easy to pull both of my girls’ favorite colors as accents. Since it’s a small shared space, I wanted to personalize each desk for the girls. Jaylie’s favorite color is aqua, so we selected a bright aqua leather chair for her desk, and for Brookie’s, we used hot pink, her favorite hue. Lighted letters in their first initial and desk accessories they personally selected signify whose area is whose. For more kids’ room inspiration, follow @designershay and @ibbdesign on Instagram.

Accessorizing with

Cocktail T able Books It’s safe to say that any time you browse through a home magazine, you’ll see spaces adorned with cocktail table books. Imagine those areas without them and you will get an idea of how a few stacks truly do transform a space. Cocktail table books are a wonderful way to add colors to a room that might be a little too bold to put on a sofa. Adding bold-colored cocktail table books as accent-colored accessories can pull a room together. Various shades of deep blues, vibrant greens or bright pinks can really enhance the depth and dimension of a room. These are a few simple ways to start decorating with cocktail table books this fall: • Add multiple piles of various heights on your cocktail table, nightstands and entry and side tables to infuse more color. • Stack several under a lamp or bowl to give height and to create levels for your accessories. • Arrange them horizontally and vertically in bookshelves to add dimension. • Stack them in neat piles on the floor tucked under a console to add a unique, layered element. To me, books are like flowers - they all go together and are wonderful conversation starters. They are great for guests to flip through while you are grabbing them a cocktail, and best of all - they make you look smarter!

DESIGNER TIPS

Customize

juxtapositions are great for this. If you are featuring a bold metal sculpture, work in some interesting moss bowls or a low-potted grass plant. The contemporary organic element next to the bolder component can combat the ruggedness, while upholding these strong pieces and not polluting the style. On that same note, if you are featuring a large white orchid, a stack of nice boxes brings structure to the space and makes the asymmetry of the orchid feel that much more fascinating.

Nothing feels cozier or more welcoming than a beautifully styled and customized space. When it comes to styling, the biggest issue my clients struggle with is finding the balance between creating a space that feels complete but not overdone. While there are no hard and fast rules on the best way to accomplish this, these simple pointers can help freshen up your existing spaces and create new spaces to enjoy!

Creating curated collections is something important to invest in because it really is what makes your home feel special; it’s the jewelry on the little black dress so to speak. This is also why it is so important to work with an interior designer with whom you are able to build a strong rapport and why so many client-designer relationships last a lifetime.

N

Your Space

Whether you are styling a simple entry table or a full wall of built-in shelves, it is important to pick your focal points. This is your best opportunity to showcase something that speaks to you or your family. Sculptures, florals and even statement lamps are great at catching the eye and creating a warm welcome to your room and home. It is crucial to consider placement for these focal pieces. Always consider where the average line of sight would be when you are in prime viewing space. Acrylic risers and interesting cocktail table books are great ways to adjust the height of these distinct items. It is also important to create some visual rest to bring balance and interest. By incorporating “filler” objects, you allow your featured pieces to stand out. Raising these classic but still interesting possessions with stacks of stimulating books, groupings of vases, picture frames and other complementary items will keep the space feeling personal without creating a sensory overload. I always say, if everybody in the group were Beyoncé, then nobody would get to be special! Lastly, you want to create harmony. Textural and style

OKTOBERFEST PARTY BY SHAY GEYER, IBB OWNER & DESIGNER

shay@ibbdesign.com I @designershay on Instagram

The fall season is one of my favorite times to entertain. While it’s sweater weather, it’s still nice enough for outdoor entertaining, and football is on. My husband and I threw a fun party for Oktoberfest that was featured in my fabulous friend Shayla Copas’s book, Four Seasons of Entertaining. We loaded up our outdoor kitchen island full of scrumptious German fare including charcuterie boards and my favorite soft pretzels with beer cheese sauce. We treated guests to a beer flight tasting and served Gluhwein in copper mugs garnished with cinnamon sticks and orange slices. Pick up a copy of Four Seasons of Entertaining to see the rest of our favorite Oktoberfest recipes and tabletop decor ideas. The books are available at our store in Frisco and online https://ibbdesign.com/product-category/books/.

(Hot German Spiced Wine) In the fall, when it is cool, and you are looking for an adult drink, this is something you can always modify with different types of alcohol, but it works perfectly for Oktoberfest! Keep mulled wine warm in a slow cooker and let your guests serve themselves. Ingredients: • 2 medium lemons • 2 medium oranges • 10 whole cloves • 5 cardamom pods • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar • 1 ¼ cups water • 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks • 2 (750-milliliter) bottles dry red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon • ½ cup brandy • Cheesecloth • Butcher’s twine Instructions: 1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove the zest from the lemons and oranges in wide strips, avoiding the white pith; place the zest in a large saucepan. Juice the lemons and oranges and add the juice to the pan. Place the cloves and cardamom in a small piece of cheesecloth, tie it tightly with butcher’s twine, and add the bundle to the saucepan. 2. Add the sugar, water, and cinnamon sticks; place the pan over high heat, and bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is reduced by about one-third, about 20 minutes. 3. Add the red wine and brandy, stir to combine, and bring just to a simmer (don’t let it boil). Remove from the heat and remove and discard the spice bundle before serving.

Fall - my favorite season - is fast approaching! The temperatures are cool, and the stores are full of fabulous fashion. Something about the season just says luxury! Even the way our home is presented and lived in shifts from outside to inside, so what a great time of year to refresh our environment. We eagerly finish projects we put off all year to prepare for entertaining and the impending holidays. When we think of seasonal luxury as it pertains to our home, fur,

velvet, crystal, rich woods and precious metals come to mind. Of all the seasons, I think fall feels the most luxurious. Fabrics become more sumptuous, colors deepen and even the scents in the air evoke a sense of warmth. Consider adding an additional layer of accessories, pillows, mirrors and candles to achieve an extra sense of coziness. Preparing your home with the superfluities of the season will ensure that every guest, every function and every holiday gathering will be beautiful, luxurious and memorable!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR

DESIGNER

1

What do I need to know about my project that will best communicate the look I want?

Sharing what you like and dislike about your current colors, furniture styles and lighting fixtures can help the designer develop a direction for your project. Sharing inspiration photos or idea books from your social media will also assist the designer in determining the aesthetic you’re after.

2

What budget should I expect?

If you are unsure about a budget, then hire an experienced designer to discuss your design goals and wish list. They can offer valuable insight that will let you know what your budget should be in order to accomplish your goals and how best to disperse those decorating dollars. After space planning a room, the designer can walk you through the pieces needed for the room’s design and provide a budget range to complete the room.

32 IBB AT HOME

Are you moving into a new home or just wanting to freshen up and update your home furnishings? Are you considering hiring an interior designer for the first time or for the first time in several years? Here are answers to some common questions that will help you make the most of your time and money.

3

How will my designer be compensated for their design services?

Each project brings its own set of required services, so be sure to have your designer explain their fees up front. In many cases, the designer may be compensated through purchases or through specific consultation fees on a new home or remodel. Your designer may assist with selecting finishes and fixtures, guiding paint color decisions, and space planning furniture and accessories as well as designing new furnishings, window treatments, and the finishing touches. Designers may bill hourly, by the project or based on a per square foot fee schedule. Talk to your designer to outline a plan that works best for you.

4

What happens if my designer is local but my project is a long distance away?

Experienced designers are able to work efficiently and effectively on projects anywhere it is required. An in-person site visit is common and sometimes more visits will be required depending on the scope of the project. Today’s technology allows designers the ability to work on the design process from a long distance. As there are many key components to the logistics of an out-of-town project, we highly suggest making sure the designer is on site for the entire installation.

Get Creative with

Wallpaper

BY LAUREN MACNAK, IBB DESIGNER lauren@ibbdesign.com @laurenmacdesigner on Instagram

When taking your space to the next level, a strong consideration should be wallpaper. Today’s papers are vastly different from their predecessors. Prints are dramatically oversized and full of whimsy, with patterns that feel like runway fashion and textures that add dimension to any space. The colors are richer, and the fabrics are textured and sometimes three-dimensional. Wallpaper can be a risk but offers a much bigger reward than paint alone. Also, wallpapers are not relegated simply to walls. Consider adding drama by applying on furniture, in the backs of shelves or even as a fireplace surround instead of tile. Whether you are bold or subtle, there is a wallpaper for you. For a busy family, there are vinyl papers that are bleach-cleanable and durable. Looking for something more “YOU”? A handmade, one-of-a-kind wallpaper is like a personalized work of art for your space. If there is a common tip for wallpaper application today, it is to use restraint. Use it sparingly and with a designed purpose in mind. One room of partial wallpaper or perhaps a single accent wall can make an immense impact, though some wallpaper warrants an entire room. If you want to dip your toe in the water, a powder bath or a mud room is a great place for a splash of drama! Whatever your chosen application, an experienced designer can help you make the best choices for your space to ensure a show-stopping conversation space.

Gorgeous Giclée

BY KAY LEWIS, IBB DESIGNER

kay@ibbdesign.com I @mkaylewis on Instagram

G

Giclée pronounced (Zhee clay) is a French word meaning "to spray". It refers to digitally reproduced fine art prints made with ink sprayed on by an ink jet printer. The quality of a Giclée print is far more superior to any other form of art printing. Giclée has come to mean any high resolution inkjet print produced on large format printers from a high-definition digitally generated file. Giclée fine art printing provides a luminosity and brilliance that represent the artist’s original artwork better than any other method.

Visit the IBB Design showroom to see Giclées and other art in person.

Combined with the finest quality canvas and inks, Giclée fine art reproductions rival original artwork in beauty and clarity. They can be hand-embellished for added texture, signed, and numbered by the artist to create a true limited edition Giclée collectible. Fine art Giclée has become the print method of choice for those who demand high quality art reproductions that appreciate in value the minute they are produced. Printing with “light fast” archival inks ensures the color fastness for many years, and the result is an art print that is the closest to the original as possible. To truly appreciate the quality of a Giclée, you need to see them for yourself. You’ll swear it’s an original!

DESIGN TIP? BY PAM HOOD, IBB DESIGNER pam@ibbdesign.com

BRING ON THE MESS WITH PERFORMANCE FABRICS Use performance fabrics inside as well as outside on your upholstery. Today’s performance fabrics are softer and more user-friendly than outdoor fabrics used primarily on patio furniture in the past. Today’s upholstery manufacturers are using Crypton and Sunbrella fabric options that have beautiful textures as well as durability and protection from kids’ messes, paw prints and wine stains.

CHANGE YOUR COLORS THIS FALL When it is time to switch things up for fall, my favorite time of year, try mixing in a few warmer-toned accessories in the amber, cinnamon and crimson spectrum. New items such as artwork, pillows, fall botanicals and a few new accessories really transform a space. I follow this practice in my own home seasonally or when I need new inspiration. It really helps to set the mood for the upcoming fall and winter months!

BY CASEY GATTERSON, IBB DESIGNER casey@ibbdesign.com

START MIXING METALS Do you find yourself wondering if you should mix metals in your home? The answer is yes, you absolutely should! Whether you are mixing metals in your bathroom faucets and cabinet hardware or freshening up a room with a brass side table and black light fixture, mixing it up is a great way to add customization and depth to a space. My recommendation would be to select two metals to focus on in a space and create a balanced and cohesive feel throughout the room. We mix metals with our jewelry, so why not do the same in our home?

COVER STORY

Designer: Michael Reese IBB Designer, michael@ibbdesign.com | @mr.maison on Instagram

Photography By Dan Piassick

W

When Larry & Laura Ciavola enlisted IBB designer Michael Reese to design their North Dallas home, they requested a colorful and inviting abode where they could comfortably entertain friends and family. Having worked with Michael for about three years, the Ciavolas were confident in his design talents and took a hands-off approach to let him work his magic. From the smiling faces they have as they discuss what they love about their home, it is evident that Michael hit a homerun with their design.

40 IBB AT HOME

Engaging Elegance a warm retreat

He incorporated many pieces from their previous home and combined those with new furniture pieces, artwork, rugs and accessories to give the Ciavolas a whole new look. Michael advises that investing in quality furnishings makes it easier to give them new life if you move into a new home. The Ciavolas’ home is a true testament to that.

IBB AT HOME 41

42 IBB AT HOME

PIANO ROOM

Navy blue paint envelops the room and provides a beautiful backdrop to layer in color. Ample seating is offered with a blue velvet sofa, a pair of club chairs and an ottoman tucked under the piano. The large-scaled artwork makes a beautiful contrasting statement on the navy walls. The bone and brass cocktail table ties in perfectly with the black-lacquered piano.

IBB AT HOME 43

The Ciavolas have a stunning collection of artwork and sculptures throughout the home. Michael found pedestals to strategically display their sculptures.

44 IBB AT HOME

A console between the piano room and kitchen offers the perfect spot to set up drinks and hors d’oeuvres while they’re entertaining. Ottomans tucked underneath the console allow for extra seating for guests. The artwork carries the warm and vibrant palette into the hallway.

IBB AT HOME 45

FAMILY ROOM

The home features an open floor plan with the kitchen and breakfast nook opening up onto the family room. The family room is a cozy and happy space, and friends often comment on how inviting the room is. A neutral sectional and club chairs gave Michael the opportunity to layer in color through pillows, a rug, artwork and accessories. The room features original fine artwork as well as GiclÊes and pieces from their previous home. Blue leopard ottomans in front of the fireplace introduce a playful pattern to the space. A paprika orange chair is paired with a blue lacquered drink table and adds a punchy pop of color to the room’s corner.

46 IBB AT HOME

IBB AT HOME 47

The color continues into the breakfast nook. A vibrant painting was paired with a two-tone buffet and makes a chic statement in the space. Buffet lamps adorned with quartz act as jewelry on the console. Colorful bindings on cocktail table books complement the colors in the artwork.

KITCHEN/DINING With the neutral finish of the kitchen, Michael decided to kick it up a notch with the upholstery to bring color into the room. Navy and teal dining chairs surround a modern, gray wood-toned table with a pewter iron base. A long and low white orchid arrangement breathes life into the space. Large hurricanes allow for candlelight and added ambiance when entertaining. Four counter stools in an orange plaid fabric were the perfect selection to use with their navy kitchen island.

MASTER BEDROOM

Layers of blue were chosen for the master bedroom’s color palette. Michael used a neutral upholstered bed with dark stained wood and metal nightstands. Pops of color were added through the blue glass lamps, pillows and artwork above the bed.

IBB AT HOME 53

54 IBB AT HOME

Striped chairs in the bay window offer color and pattern against the white walls and shades. It’s an ideal spot to retreat at the end of a busy day. The blue ottoman gives the Ciovolas a stylish place to kick up their feet.

The teal glass door cabinet provides ample storage and anchors the wall opposite the bed. Abstract artwork helps tie in the shades of blue used in the bedroom.

IBB AT HOME 55

56 IBB AT HOME

OUTDOOR LIVING

Honing in on the mantra that your outdoor living spaces should be an extension of your interiors, Michael layered orange and amethyst into the backyard’s furnishings. A mostly tonal gray sitting area on the veranda was spiced up with bright pops of orange.

IBB AT HOME 57

By the pool, a comfortable day bed under an orange umbrella is the perfect spot to get lost in a good novel. Chairs upholstered in amethyst and decorative pillows infuse color into the seating arrangement.

Back-to-School Season Create a lunch station Separate kids’ snacks and have them accessible. This creates the opportunity for kids to make a choice AND a choice that is pre-approved by mom or dad! Pre-portion out items like baby carrots and grapes so they are ready to go in the morning.

for the picassos Every household with children inherits new masterpieces weekly. Since the Mom-of-the-Year Award would never go to someone who throws an art project away (wink! wink!), create digital copies or an art wall where they can display their latest and greatest Rembrandt. And for the record, they will thank you in their 20’s if you toss a few so that they don’t inherit bins upon bins of their finger paintings.

Time to Get Up Picking out clothes for the next day or even the week will help you save time in the morning.

Bag Drop

On Sunday nights, I like to group together all of the outfits for the week. This makes the morning routine go that much faster since we avoid the morning fashion show. This can especially be helpful with young children and leave out the guesswork with older kids.

Keeping track of all the paperwork coming home from school can be tough. Install hooks and a file basket on the wall. Your kids can hang their backpack and file the take-home items. Creating the bag drop close by where your kids do their homework will make cleanup much easier.

FAMILY ROOM

The home features an open floorplan concept with the kitchen opening onto the family room and breakfast nook. A black velvet channeled sofa floats in the family room to anchor the seating arrangement. Brightly colored velvet pillows liven up the rest of the room’s neutral furnishings.

KITCHEN & DINING

We drew attention to the arched wall in the kitchen by painting it black, and the The kitchen large kitchen island was also painted black. Floral arrangements and artwork bring color into the kitchen area. The home features two dining spaces making this open floor plan ideal for entertaining. The casual dining features a reclaimed wood dining table surrounded by black chairs. The formal dining room was designed with a distressed wood dining table and skirted Parsons chair. Emerald green velvet drapery and large-scaled art add a sophisticated flair without making the room overly formal.

We painted the entire room in a deep emerald green. Decorative pillows accent the white leather sectional and bring in a pop of color. The reclaimed wood cocktail table gives a nod to our modern farmhouse aesthetic.

MEDIA ROOM

STUDY Drama was created by painting the room black and contrasting it with white cabinetry. Who doesn’t love a classic black and white palette? To achieve a stronger presence, books are arranged by color in the bookshelves. A large white wing-back chair provides a comfortable spot to sit at the large desk, and pair of accent chairs offers additional seating.

MASTER BEDROOM & BATH 70 IBB AT HOME

The master bedroom is a fan favorite! An iron canopy bed and shiplap wall fit the farmhouse aesthetic perfectly. A patterned rug brings in a traditional flair and introduces color to the room. Quilted green velvet bedding layers in texture and contrast to the crisp white duvet. A slip-covered sofa and woven bunching tables make up the sitting area furniture arrangement. Simple white pleated panels offer a light and airy feel to the space. Black hexagon tile defines the recessed accent by the master bathtub. A large-format patterned tile makes an impressive design statement on the floors.

GUEST BEDROOM 72 IBB AT HOME

Inspired by the drapery panel fabric, we added in a strong splash of color to the bed with a large orange lumbar pillow. Large-scaled black and white stripes make quite a statement behind the black upholstered headboard.

BOY’S BEDROOM

Sports themes are always a popular request for boys’ bedrooms. The Dallas Stars colors played perfectly with the rest of the home’s interiors, so we went for it! Hand-painted stripes and logo help define the theme. Reclaimed wood and iron nightstands and cabinet nod back to our modern farmhouse aesthetic.

GIRL'S BEDROOM Black, white and sunny yellow make up this sweet girl’s room. To create a focal point, we painted the bed wall solid black and added “Sweet Dreams” over the bed. A white upholstered headboard really stands out against the black wall. A gallery wall was created using artwork and metal flowers. Accents of yellow make this quite a cheerful space!

Fall in Love

with Your Room Again! BY SHANNON GIDNEY, IBB DESIGNER & SALES MANAGER shannon@ibbdesign.com @designershannongidneyibb on Instagram Has your home’s look become stale? Specific modifications can give a room an entirely new look and help you fall in love with it again. Change up the furniture layout. Even a simple rearrangement of the furniture can help feng shui the room for a whole new sense of flow. Add in a fun punch of color with a new floral, pillow or throw. Change out the rug in the room to create a new atmosphere. Remember to touch on all the senses with fresh flowers and new candle scents. Adding a fresh new paint color on the walls (and ceiling) can be the most dramatic overall change you can make. For windows, change out old window coverings and select new looks such as silhouettes or roller shades. Invest in gorgeous drapery. Showcase cocktail books of places you have traveled or things you are passionate about in colors that complement the room. Ensure your room has three pools of light aside from overhead or can lighting. A well-placed lamp or light fixture can help create a more intimate setting. Hire a designer to come in to lay a fresh set of eyes on it. They can save you time and money. Let the expert lead. Invest in a new piece of art. Maybe even go oversized or do the unexpected and tuck it slightly behind or offset from a larger piece of furniture in the room. Decluttering can provide a sense of serenity. Ready, set, now fall in love!

ENTERTAINING

An Elegant Blue & White Tablescape for Fall BY ALICIA WOOD, CREATIVE DIRECTOR, ALICIA WOOD LIFESTYLE aliciawoodlifestyle.com I alicia@aliciawoodlifestyle.com I @aliciawoodlifestyle on Instagram

I

t’s no secret that I have a passion for blue and white. This classic can’t-go-wrong color combination is one I adore using throughout my home, as well as when entertaining friends and family. This new take on an autumn tablescape is one of my all-time favorites. I absolutely love the way autumnal colors pop against a blue and white background.

O

riginally created for Kappa Tablescapes, this design was in partnership with Juliska, IBB Design and The Garden Gate of Dallas. As a contributor to IBB

at Home Magazine, I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with owner and designer Shay Geyer. This gorgeous leopard tablecloth is one of Shay’s designs, and it is an absolute showstopper! The combination of a blue and white background paired with earthly elements like bamboo and rich fall-colored flowers helps take your dinner to the next level.

O

ne of my favorite dinnerware combinations is Country Estate in Delft Blue paired with Classic Bamboo, both from Juliska. The Classic Bamboo pattern is one that can be used throughout the year, whether every day or for a special occasion like Easter! I never tire of this pattern and highly recommend investing in one that you can use over and over again.

he beautiful flowers are from Junior Villanueva at The Garden Gate, Dallas’s finest floral and event designer. He brought to life my idea of using pinks, purples and oranges to create a beautiful fall feel for a

APPLE GALETTE All of the beautiful fall apples have me thinking about apple pie. This Apple Galette or Rustic Apple Pie is a family favorite. Our food allergies necessitated a few changes to my baking routine. Gluten-free baking can be intimidating, but with the right ingredients, success is possible. Chef Lena Kwak developed Cup4Cup in the kitchen of Thomas Keller’s Napa Valley icon French Laundry. It truly is just that. It has worked in everything I’ve used it in. This is a great dessert and holiday breakfast pastry as well. Hope you enjoy one of our family traditions!

he beautiful agate name cards created by Madeleine at Madeleine Calligraphy are another special touch. Madeleine is a dear friend whom I have known since she was in middle school! Her creativity is so inspiring. You can follow her at @m.calligraphyetc on Instagram to see more of her creations.

I

have also included one of my family’s favorite fall desserts: a rustic apple pie, better known as Apple Galette. This delicious and elegant dessert is one you will keep in your fall rotation year after year because of its simplicity and presentation.

y hope is that you are inspired to use this fresh color palette this fall to create a chic tablescape of your own!

Prep time: 20 min. Cook time: 20-25 min. Ingredients for pie crust: • 2 c of Cup4Cup or All-purpose Flour • 1 tbs Kosher Salt • 2 sticks very cold butter (diced right before use) • ¼ c and 2 tbs of ice water • **Note: If you use traditional flour, delete the 2 tbs of water. Ingredients for filling: • 1 c well packed brown sugar • 1 tsp cinnamon • ½ tsp nutmeg • Zest from 1 orange • 2 of your favorite apples (I used Honeycrisp but Granny Smiths are great, too!) Directions: 1. Place the flour and salt in your food processor. Pulse it 3-4 times to mix. 2. Take the butter from the refrigerator and quickly dice it. 3. Place the butter cubes in the food processor and toss to coat with the flour mixture; be careful with the sharp blades on the bottom. 4. Pulse the mixture until the cubes are about pea sized. 5. Add the ice cold water through the top of the food processor while it is running. 6. Let it mix until the dough begins to come together but is not yet one big ball. 7. Turn it out on to well-floured pastry board or sheet. 8. Separate into two sections and form into a disk. 9. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour. 10. Just before you roll out the crust, preheat oven to 350 degrees. 11. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. 12. Zest the orange over the mixture; combine and set aside. 13. Remove from plastic wrap and roll out on to well-floured pastry board. 14. Roll out into a 10-inch circle. 15. Transfer to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. 16. Slice your apples into ⅛” slices. 17. Add to sugar mixture and toss. 18. Arrange them in a circular pattern on the crust leaving 1 ½ inch border of crust uncovered. 19. Gently fold the pie crust over the apples. 20. Bake for 20-25 minutes. 21. Remove from the oven and cool for 5 minutes. 22. Some of the sugar may come out of the crust. If so, just scrape away from the edges with a spatula. 23. Transfer to a wire rack to continue to cool. 24. Serve warm with ice cream or spiced whipped cream.

INGREDIENTS: • • • • • • • •

16oz. can tomato sauce 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar 2 tsp. crystal's hot sauce 1 tbsp. yellow mustard 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika 2 cloves garlic, minced kosher salt black pepper

1.

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat. Let simmer until sauce thickens up a bit and flavors combine, about 10 minutes. 2. Let cool and store in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 7 days, or you can freeze.

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Cut sweet potatoes in 1/2 inch rounds. 3. Place in bowl with and drizzle with olive oil. Toss until coated evenly; then season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss once more to coat evenly. 4. Place sweet potato rounds flat on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes or until fully cooked, flipping over halfway through. 5. At the very end of the cooking process, I like to turn my oven on "broil" for about 3 more minutes, watching carefully so that they don't burn but to crisp them up a bit more. 6. Using the cooked sweet potato rounds as buns, fill with the bbq pulled pork, sliced onions and pickles with a little extra drizzle of bbq sauce over the top. 7.
