PICKING PAINT

COLORS Picking paint colors is overwhelming to most people. With expert advice, this daunting task can be made much easier. There are so many factors to consider when choosing paint colors for your home natural light, ceiling height, the size of the space, and many others. It’s important to choose a few colors

to sample for each room and then look at them in the space to consider all of the factors before making a final decision.

Our designers weigh in on a few of their favorite paint colors and why they love them.

Benjamin Moore 2168-10 Fall Harvest “My favorite color is orange, and I love what a happy hue it is! When I was remodeling my own home, I made a bold decision to lacquer my study paneling in this warm Hermès-like orange. I’m so happy I went for it! It’s my favorite room in my home, and friends and family always comment on how cheerful it is.”

BETH RAFFERTY, IBB OWNER & DESIGNER beth@ibbdesign.com @ibbdesign on Instagram

Sherwin Williams SW7069 Iron Ore “It’s a soft black that is a great background for a feature wall. It’s also great for cabinetry, trim, doors, and shiplap.”

Sherwin Williams SW7004 Snowbound “A good classic white can be so difficult and overwhelming to choose. Snowbound is a great choice for a cabinet color, wall color, and interior trim color, as it provides a crisp white look in any space! It’s definitely my ‘go-to’ white.”

Benjamin Moore 2065-10 Admiral Blue “Blues are classic and work with a multitude of aesthetics. Admiral Blue is a deep rich blue that pairs well with many colors to provide rich contrast and give you a timeless look.”

Sherwin Williams SW 1015 Skyline Steel “It is always an easy ‘go to’ for me when looking for a warm, light gray overall interior wall color when I’m not wanting a pure white on the walls. I would lump Skyline Steel into the greige neutral family; it’s compatible with a multitude of color palettes and can often be a chameleon in its setting."

Sherwin Williams SW 6248 Jubilee “It is so peaceful and inviting. It’s a gorgeous celestial gray-blue that is perfect to use as a soft accent.”

Sherwin Williams SW 7631 City Loft “It’s a perfect neutral that goes from a soft, warm gray to light greige depending on lighting. It blends beautifully with everything!”

Sherwin Williams SW 6258 Tricorn Black “It’s a beautiful subdued black that works with pretty much any architectural style! The warm neutral base make a fantastic background to feature an art collection.”

Sherwin Williams SW 7008 Alabaster “My favorite go-to paint color is Alabaster from Sherwin Williams. It has a nice warmth to it and instantly brightens up any space.”

**Pro tip: Always sample the paint in your space before diving in and painting the entire room. Just because it looks fabulous in your friend’s home, doesn’t mean it will look equally as stunning in your home. There are many factors that can influence how paint looks in a space.**

Kitchen Storage &

Cabinetry

BY HUNTINGTON REMODELING

STORAGE & CABINET STYLES Walk-In Pantry We recommend a classic walk-in pantry somewhere near the kitchen as an ideal addition to any home, regardless of size. This designated space, along with additional built-ins and storage solutions, is great for keeping kitchen-related items (i.e. dry-goods, paper goods, cleaning supplies) hidden while still easily accessible. Adding a space-saving cabinet pantry with a pull-out countertop inside is another good option if space is limited.

16 IBB AT HOME

Cabinet Measurements Cabinet Height plays an important role in the overall space configuration in the kitchen. Upper cabinets are normally positioned at 18 inches above the countertop and are 36 to 42 inches in height. Consider that your average maximum reach over and into an upper cabinet is 70 to 80 inches above the floor. Cabinets set at above seven feet will likely need to be accessed with a step ladder. Cabinets above eight feet can maximize the available storage for seasonal or decorative items, which can be reached with step stools and ladders. The standard dimensions for base cabinets are 24 inches deep and 36 inches tall. In general, people are getting taller, so some homeowners are requesting the counter height be raised to 38 inches. Distance Between Cabinets is another important measurement in functional kitchen design. Entry points can be as little as 42 inches when there is a cabinet on only one side. Stay at least 48 inches from the face of a cabinet to the one on the other side; 50 inches is even better, but going beyond 60 inches is too wide in most cases. However, if it is a U-shaped kitchen, you could get away with up to 96 inches.

Upper cabinets with inset doors need additional depth to accommodate dishes and platters. Also, the expansion of wood caused by high levels of humidity can sometimes cause rubbing to occur between the door and the frame. Full Overlay Doors give a similar appearance to that of inset doors without the higher cost. They completely cover the cabinet face, providing the flat cabinet front so desired in inset cabinets. Since they are not set inside the cabinet frame, full overlay cabinet doors provide the greatest amount of storage, allowing for ample room to store items such as pots and pans. Without the vertical stile on the face frame, double-door cabinets in the full overlay style offer a greater storage capacity and easier access to items. Partial Overlay Cabinets are the most common and most cost-effective option for your kitchen. The door rests against the cabinet face, leaving a “gap” of usually 1-1 1/4 inch between the doors, allowing the face frame of the cabinet to be seen. No hardware is required with these cabinet doors as there is finger space on the sides of the doors, allowing easy opening. Though a more traditional look, cabinets with partial overlay doors are still a popular choice and a good option for many kitchens, especially if budget is a factor.

CABINET STYLES & DOOR TYPES Cabinet Measurements While many traditional styles have become less popular, the current trend favors a clean, streamlined aesthetic for kitchen cabinetry—a sleek and timeless style you’ll love for years to come. Another kitchen cabinetry consideration involves the type of doors: inset, full, or partial overlay cabinet doors.

Huntington Remodeling and IBB Design have partnered up to form the dream remodeling team. With combined expertise in residential architecture, interior design, and project management, our project teams collaborate closely to create cohesive visions as well as bring them to completion using the most advanced design practices and highest quality products. Remodel your home with Huntington and IBB—schedule your free consultation today at HuntingtonRemodeling.com/Contact.

Inset Cabinet Doors are set into the cabinet frame and fit flush with the face of the cabinet when closed. Since the door is flat with the rest of the cabinet, a door pull or knob is needed to open the cabinet. With this type of door, the hinges can either be concealed or exposed. Inset cabinets are desired by many for their smooth, clean appearance, but there is a price to be paid for the look and quality of inset doors. That price is between 15-30% more than overlay doors. Beyond the increase in price, there are a couple of other things to keep in mind with these doors.

OUTDOOR LIVING in the Fall!

BY KAREN HOLLOWAY, IBB DESIGNER karen@ibbdesign.com

So many of us are spending more time in our homes, if not for work, then most likely as our primary source of entertainment. I encourage you to take a critical look at your surroundings and ask yourself what you can do to improve your status of comfort, efficiency, and enjoyment. Start with the outdoor patio! The cooler temperatures coming in the fall make this the perfect place to hold Zoom meetings or to gather with the family and friends for a change of scenery after being in the house or an office all day.

Ideas of what to look for:

First, consider the focal area. Second place to a beautiful pool, the focal area is generally near the food and the outdoor cooking

area. If you do not have a central cooking area, this would be a great time to consider adding one. With cabinetry for the grill and other cooking tools, you could even design it with a seated bar so you can have comfortable seating close enough to visit with the cook, while allowing additional space for serving. Though a simple addition, it is most inviting and adds greatly to the enjoyment of your outdoor living experience. As long as you are doing some “construction” with the bar, consider treating the patio flooring with one of the great outdoor tiles and, if there’s a ceiling, paint it a tropical color to coordinate with the pool and décor colors or add tongue and groove wood that is stained a fall color to give a cozy finishing touch. Maximize the benefits of other outdoor areas by evaluating how you can better utilize the space. How many people do you want to accommodate and how would that look? Besides the bar seating mentioned above, create another inviting area or two with comfortable lounge chairs for 2-4 people to engage in conversation. Use this area to be creative with an unusual, interesting cocktail table or a colorful, fun outdoor rug, and don’t forget to find a spot for the exterior art that adds a special touch! If movies or sports are your thing, then maybe there’s room for a sofa with a chaise lounge around the outdoor television for another gathering area. There are some great options for all of these, so reach out to a designer to help curate the pieces for your space and outdoor style. As you work on these areas, be sure they not only coordinate with each other in style, color, and scale, but also coordinate with the interior of your home, especially the room you walk through to get to the outdoor living area. It should look and feel like an extension of your interior making your home visibly larger and much more interesting. The options for outdoor furnishings have vastly expanded beyond the wrought iron and teak days. Fine furniture manufactures today provide us with an assortment of fully upholstered performance fabric sofas and chairs adapted for the outdoors with many durable options, stylish outdoor dining tables and chairs, interesting cocktail tables and side tables that would look as stylish inside the home as they do outside. I have had the pleasure of designing and supervising the installation of many outdoor living areas and would be delighted to discuss how you can have a place of comfort and respite that will thrill your family and friends!

Working FROM

HOME

lauren@ibbdesign.com @laurenmacdesigner on Instagram

When it comes to working from home these days, needs have changed drastically. Given many people's at-home productivity, some changes may prove to be permanent. Therefore, creating a wonderful inhome office can make life easier and brighter and can ensure you also have a nice backdrop for all of those Zoom calls! First, it’s important to figure out how you need to function in the space. Is this a two- monitor situation or do you simply use a tablet? Is storage paramount for all of the papers and books? Is a comfy chair for reading and visiting necessary? Next, decide on a color palette. Is the goal light and airy or dramatic and bold? Don’t neglect window coverings, whether

you are trying to captivate the beautiful view or block out pesky mid-day light. After the functional questions, come all the fun desk and décor choices. With literally hundreds of options, you can bring to life the home office of your dreams. Perhaps even consider adding built-in shelves or étagères for more rigid shelving in a space. A soft rug and gorgeous light fixtures can truly be the finishing touch your study needs.

DINING PLANS BY MICHAEL REESE, IBB DESIGNER

Despite all the craziness that seems to represent this year, I know I can still count on certain things, like the changing of seasons. Fall is my favorite time of year! There are many reasons for this, but the cooler weather is on the top of the list. The colors of the trees and landscape and the holidays are also top reasons for my love of the season. This year in particular I have valued the fellowship, closeness, and hospitality that we can offer in our homes - our sanctuaries really. During a time that has rarely felt in control or calm, we can still create in our own homes the feeling of safety, comfort, and grace. With this in mind, I thought I’d add the dining room to my “how to” series of furnishing and decorating. As with any room, I suggest starting with a plan. First, assess your space and its intended use. Most homes don’t allocate much space in the formal dining area any more - which is a shame, as it’s generally one of the first rooms we experience off the entryway. It’s our guests’ first glimpse into our home. Also, many people feel they won’t use this space very often, but I find that like many rooms, if they are furnished and comfortable, we will use them far more often.

22 IBB AT HOME

I would start with the table and determine the appropriate shape and size. Many people like a round table for conversation, and that’s nice if your room is more square. The shape of most rooms, however, calls for a rectangular table. Next, determine based on window and door placement if you have the ability to accommodate a buffet/credenza and or a China or storage cabinet. It’s nice to instigate storage and display for dishes, crystal, and linens if possible. A buffet is great to anchor the room, as you can add lamps and art or a mirror to really make a statement! If you have a hard surface for flooring, I would recommend adding a rug, but make sure it’s the largest size that your room will allow, so in the event you extend the table, you’ll have the host chairs fully on the rug. I know now more than ever our homes are important to us as a reflection of our personalities, our travels, our family, and our most personal expression of who we are and what we value. I hope that we will all enjoy this autumn and beyond all that, that our homes represent and really embrace what home is about - all the best!

FOR YOU! SHANNON GIDNEY, IBB DESIGNER & SALES MANAGER WITH MELISSA CATALANO, IBB DESIGNER shannon@ibbdesign.com | @designershannongidneyibb on Instagram

Home should be a place of rest, refresh, and embrace. It’s a space that is a projection of you and the collaboration of items that speak to you. When seeking out a designer, search for one who really focuses on you and what makes you happy. When starting a new project, I often find how my client utilizes their space so that I can best accommodate their needs. I want to know how they live and what is working and what is not. Once a room’s ideal use has been determined, it is time to focus on style. A well-designed home has layers, depth, and texture and tells a story. For example, I love having a family heirloom or a cherished piece as a jumping off point for my designs. Old objects can carry an intangible history that makes the project feel complete and more personalized. Start by highlighting those items that have meaning,. Even found antiques can tell personal tales. Simple items such as a framed piece of your grandmother’s piano music or the shutters off of a great uncle’s shop can breathe so much life into a space.

Don’t be afraid to find new uses for older items. This is a great way to usher in a feeling of timelessness and warmth. Often I find my clients are focused on where an item should be placed or on how it should be used. Try thinking outside of the box when it comes to its normal purpose and placement. For example, use that old vase as a utensil holder or try reupholstering an old chair in a new and unexpected way. This can be a fantastic way to give an old piece of furniture a new look while adding depth and dimension to the space. Lastly, don’t be afraid to place an antique piece in a more contemporary setting. Every design magazine on the shelves these days shows spaces offering a mix of period pieces and design styles. Mixing styles creates movement, conversation, and interest. So strive to create a home that is well thought out, tells your story, and is a real mix of old and new.

Whenever we walk into a doctor’s or dentist’s office, we expect to get the very best care possible; care that is up-to-date with all the new research and development of new treatment plans for our particular health issue. That’s a reasonable assumption… However, we often are met with just the opposite when we see a reception area that is straight out of the Eighties. Big, overstuffed highleg chairs, scratched up wood tables, and stained carpet can make you wonder if they are still giving the same outdated treatments and advice.

24 IBB AT HOME

Most professionals enter their office space through a private entrance and rarely go into the reception area to actually see what their clients are seeing. Redoing the office space will certainly send the right message to any potential patients or clients. There are many different furniture styles with performance fabrics that will make your office a much more pleasant and current environment that shows, “Yes, I got this!” An updated office will allow your clients to have more confidence that they are dealing with a professional and successful person who cares about their comfort.

LIGHTING

SOLUTIONS BY JORY GATTIS DICKINSON, IBB DESIGNER jory@ibbdesign.com | @jorya.gattis on Instagram Photography By Dan Piassick

No design element makes as much of an impact in a space as lighting does! Your lighting is going to determine how colors read, where your focus is steered, and can even set the entire mood of a space. I always start by analyzing the vernal lighting of a space. This includes any major light fixtures (if they are staying) and canned or recessed lighting.

Depending upon the use of the space and the amount of natural light you have access to, you can start to evaluate your space’s shortcomings as well as its opportunities for natural lighting. Almost every space, whether it is a bedroom, dining room, living space, or office, is going to have one or two major

focal light fixtures as your primary jewels of the room. In a formal dining space, you want to make sure your dining surface is where most of your concentrated light is focused to create a more dramatic space. In a more casual family room, however, you should ensure that the general ambient lighting is the bigger focus. This will allow for better versatility of the room since the space will serve multiple purposes. It is also important to consider things like television screens and monitor lighting in order to account for any potential glare issues when these important pieces are in use. Once you have these staple pieces selected, you get to start having some fun! Accent lighting like bedside lamps, sconces, art lights, and uprights can bring in the drama! Layering these lighting fixtures and utilizing dimmers can make a room feel bright and energetic or romantic and cozy. It’s even better if you create an environment that has the versatility to do both!

DESIGNER TIPS

BACK-TO-

SCHOOL Living It’s that time of year again when school starts and homework begins. Normally, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of school supplies, practice schedules, and lunch menus. But we all know this year isn’t normal. Whether or not your kiddos are going to be learning in school or learning online at home, it is important to have a workspace equipped with everything they need to make the learning experience as seamless as possible. Having a visually cluttered workspace means there are potential distractions and can get in the way of the ability to focus. These items will help keep the area organized and provide a little visual comfort at the same time.

Storage ottomans These can be great to switch up the seating during the day, but the true benefit is being able to store things such as cords, charges, iPads, and anything else unsightly but that you need quick access to.

Boxes These stacked on a desk look great and can store things such as calculators, ink cartridges, and earbuds.

26 IBB AT HOME

Good lighting Task lighting is important because it helps better accomplish a specific activity. This is especially essential if the desk area is in a common space where focusing is key.

Comfy chair It’s hard to get kids to stay seated for long! Tackle that problem upfront and get a chair that provides all the support they need in order to make the most of their productivity.

VISCOSE RUGS BY JUSTIN YECK, FEIZY VP OF SALES, MARKETING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN jyeck@feizy.com | www.feizy.com

For any client, the word “viscose” can evoke pangs of terror. Fear not, fellow shoppers! Viscose should never be a dirty word.

A BRIEF HISTORY -

Celebrated for its soft touch, viscose is an affordable fiber discovered by French scientist Hilaire De Chardonnet in the 1800s. Often used as a substitute for silk, viscose is produced from wood pulp often derived from pine, eucalyptus, or bamboo and provides a beautiful luster and soft hand at a more affordable price. Creating viscose is best left to scientists well versed in chemical equations, and the result is a fiber that dyes easily, allowing for a wide range of either vibrant or subtle colors.

VISCOSE TODAY -

“When working with clients, I often get a negative reaction to viscose,” says Feizy Brand Manager Leighton Lloyd. “The truth is, viscose doesn’t need to be avoided. It needs to be an honest conversation to educate them on the best uses of the widely requested feel and look in today's rugs.” Taking a moment to understand the best uses of this product can still allow clients to have the look and feel they crave with the satisfaction of knowing their investment will remain beautiful and pristine

through time. A 100% viscose rug is recommended for the following spaces: • Bedrooms • Formal Dining Rooms • Formal Living Rooms • Low Traffic Spaces • Spaces Free of Pets Today, modern rug producers like Feizy focus on creating blends utilizing viscose with another fiber, most often wool. “The client should always feel confident purchasing a rug with a wool/viscose blend to use in high traffic and family spaces,” says Leighton Lloyd. The wonderful thing about these blends is that viscose takes on the properties of these more durable fibers, creating a product that is appealing to the eye and the needs of today’s modern family. In the end, viscose shouldn’t be a dirty word. Asking yourself a few questions can ultimately ensure you make the best choice for your family and select the perfect piece to ground your room. If you are struggling with questions about which rug is suitable for your family, consult with an interior designer trained to guide you on your purchase.

WHAT’S A GREAT

DESIGN TIP? BY BETHANN CONNOR, IBB DESIGN ASSISTANT bethann@ibbdesign.com

MIX METALS Don’t be afraid to mix metals in your lighting, cabinetry hardware, and furniture. Not everything has to match! Pairing gold accents with polished nickel or black with gold is a great way to create a more curated design. There are beautiful lighting and hardware options that even combine two finishes, which is a great way to introduce multiple metals into a room.

FALL FOR PLAID

Give your room a fresh, crisp update with a plaid fabric or plaid rug for a new and unexpected look. Using a plaid instead of a stripe or solid will also allow you to have more options in colors since most plaids have at least three colors in their mix to decorate with.

ADD A MONOGRAM

A fun way to add a personal touch to your home is with a monogram. Embroidered monograms are a great way to add a touch of traditional style. While an applique can create a more modern feel, monograms can be added to just about anything, including common items such as bedding, towels, pillows, or even wall dĂŠcor.

PLACE PRETTY ACCESSORIES Pretty accessories placed around your rooms add a unique touch and sparkle, just like selecting special jewelry for an outfit. Add lamps that glisten and glow with glass fragments on your nightstands. Place a box with a dragonfly sitting on rock crystals for your remote controls on your cocktail table. Use a pair of antique brass birds sitting on blue cementite geodes stacked on books on your writing table.

LIVING IN LUXE BY SHAY GEYER, IBB OWNER & DESIGNER shay@ibbdesign.com @designershay on Instagram Photography by Dan Piassick

We were honored to work with Shane and Amy Adams to design their dream home from the ground up. From selecting all the interior finishes to furnishing the home, every detail was planned to fit their family’s lifestyle and aesthetic.

FOYER & GROIN VAULT HALLWAY As you enter the home, you are greeted by soaring ceilings and a sweeping staircase. To highlight the grand scale of the foyer, we chose 48”x48” Calacatta marble laid on the diagonal. Two rows of 5” white oak wood planks and a brass inlay were designed as a perimeter border to the marble and a transition to the wood in the adjacent dining room, hallways, and great room. Groin vault ceilings are one of my favorite architectural details. We used a design with 24”x24” Calacatta marble and brass inlay and an acrylic and brass pendant centered under each groin vault.

32 IBB AT HOME

STAIRCASE Shay & Team IBB helped us create our dream home! They were with us every step of the way from the construction phase to the finishing touches. They always listened to our desires and then presented us with several options in various budget ranges. Walking into our house for the first time and seeing it all come together was a day we'll never forget!

The custom floating staircase leads to the second floor as well as down to the basement. Calacatta marble lines the stair risers, and linear-stacked quartz covers the wall leading to the basement. A shagreen and brass round table nestles perfectly into the staircase and displays family photos. A large custom version of The Shay Geyer Collection Ebby orchid arrangement adds height and makes an impressive, elegant statement.

Motorized shades were recessed in the ceiling to provide privacy, and metallic gold drapery panels add elegance and texture to the room.

GREAT ROOM The color palette for the room was inspired by the fabric we used on the barstools in the kitchen, a fabric Amy instantly fell in love with. Navy, orange, and turquoise accents were paired with a neutral sectional with a double chaise. A cast brass nestling cocktail table adds texture and warmth to the design. A brass-framed club chair and ottoman offer another cozy spot to sit. A navy abstract cut-velvet fabric was used to upholster swivel chairs, and large-scaled art ties the whole palette together.

GREAT ROOM

The fireplace was designed using book-matched slabs and a linear fireplace. Recessed bookcases painted in the same navy as the kitchen island anchor the fireplace wall and offer space to display family photos, keepsakes, and decorative accessories. Ottomans were placed under the sofa table to add extra seating and an additional spot to have a snack and watch TV.

KITCHEN & BUTLERY The kitchen island was painted navy, and we kept the perimeter cabinetry a crisp white. The barstools add vibrant color and pattern to the space. Gold-leafed pendants make a fabulous statement over the island, and brass accents add style to the vent hood. We intentionally mixed metals in the space to give them a more timeless design. Cabinet hardware in brass and polished nickel tie the brass accents and polished nickel plumbing together.

IBB AT HOME 41

42 IBB AT HOME

WORKING PANTRY

The butlery and working pantry give the Adamses a place to house the ovens, coffee maker, microwave, and other appliances to keep the main kitchen less cluttered and allow more cabinetry for storage. We gave Amy a pretty backdrop for her working pantry so she could make all of her organizing dreams come true. Her organizing skills are pro status! Blue cabinetry, an elongated hex marble backsplash, and a place for everything make a normally mundane space much more fun!

IBB AT HOME 43

CRAFT ROOM

Amy and her daughter Kayla love crafting. The craft room was designed to give them plenty of storage for all of their supplies and a large workspace to create. Custom wallpaper was the catalyst for the color palette for the room. We pulled a bright blue from the paper’s design to paint the cabinetry. We re-covered a barstool from their previous home in a performance fabric to use for a comfy place to sit while working.

44 IBB AT HOME

POWDER BATH Gorgeous gold tile covers the entire vanity wall in this powder bath off of the formal dining room. An integrated sink vanity was designed using Calacatta porcelain. A backlit floating mirror provides additional lighting and functionality without taking away from the gorgeous tile.

One of the things I love most about the house is all of the unique pieces Shay was able to find or create for each room. If we couldn't find exactly what we were looking for, she took our ideas and designed a custom piece. Those definitely have special meaning to us. I often get asked which room is my favorite, and I can never pick just one room! Each room was created with such detail and thought, so I love them all! I even enjoy doing laundry now because the space makes me happy!

MUD ROOM

46 IBB AT HOME

LAUNDRY ROOM The fabric used on the Roman shade was our jumping off point for the room’s color palette. It’s such a bright and cheerful pattern! How can you not enjoy laundry in here? We designed a custom emerald green tile for the flooring, which makes a fun statement in the room. A beautiful blue hue was selected for the lower cabinetry, and a crisp white was used for the upper cabinets. We also incorporated some fun and functional features for the family dog, Molly. A built-in feeding station was designed with a pot filler to make refilling her water bowl an easy, no mess task. There’s also a cozy kennel and bed where she loves to lounge. The adjoining mud room cabinetry was painted in the same blue, and we brought back the citrus floral print for pillows on the bench. Brass inserts with a geometric design add a unique design detail on the cabinet doors.

IBB AT HOME 47

BREAKFAST NOOK A brass inlay and herringbone design defines the elevated breakfast nook. A commissioned painting anchors the room’s color palette.

KIDS' GAME ROOM Lit letters spelling “Game On set the tone for this fun gaming room. A game table and ottomans allow a perfect spot to play Scrabble and other games. A sofa and large swivel chair provide ample seating for the room.

POOL BATH

A custom vanity with doors lined in wallpaper emulating water sets the tone for the room’s design. Glass tile similar to the vanity’s wallpaper was used as a perimeter border in the tub surround. Textured vinyl wallpaper in aqua covers the walls with soft color.

IBB AT HOME 53

MASTER BEDROOM 54 IBB AT HOME

Tonal grays with accents of chartreuse were selected for the master bedroom design. The bed wall was upholstered in rectangular gray velvet panels to create a feature wall. We designed the bed in a rich espresso finish to allow the brass accents to really stand out. Two-toned nightstands in black nickel and platinum offer storage and make an elegant statement in the room. Swivel chairs in a gray and chartreuse fabric sit in front of the color-blocking drapery panels. Original artwork from La Montage perfectly complements the room.

MASTER BATH Bookmatched slabs create a stunning backdrop for the tub wall and floors in the master bathroom. Custom, mixed-metal hardware blends matte brass and polished nickel for a timeless look. Laser-cut brass and mirrored tile line the back wall of the spacious walk-in shower.

MAKEUP VANITY To allow for ample space and convenience while getting ready, we placed the makeup vanity inside the closet. Brass and acrylic sconces dress up the space.

CLOSET & VANITY

The master retreat features his and hers closets. Her show-stopping closet was designed to conceal all of the hanging clothes behind cabinet doors for a neat and tidy appearance. Metallic gold cork wallpaper lines the shoe and handbag shelves, and acrylic and brass hardware makes a stylish statement in the room. A dramatic chandelier made with brass mesh was selected to use over the island. A tufted bench seat in a gray performance velvet is the perfect spot to sit and put on shoes.

IBB AT HOME 59

60 IBB AT HOME

GENTLEMAN'S STUDY My hex fabric in gunmetal and cognac was the jumping off point for their study. A wood and brass desk floats in the center of the room with a cognac leather executive chair. Club chairs in a black cut velvet pattern offer additional seating in the room. A wall of built-in cabinetry painted in gunmetal gray provides additional workspace and storage. An acrylic and brass bar cart was placed in front of the window and adds to the room without taking up a lot of visual weight.

IBB AT HOME 61

KAYLA’S BEDROOM & BATHROOM Blush, gray, and gold were requested for the room’s palette. We had our decorative painter paint abstract metallic gold lines on a blush wall to create a focal wall behind the bed. A queen-sized upholstered bed in gray with a blush welt was designed for her room. A white duvet gives crisp contrast to the bed, and a monogram appliqué personalizes her bedding. Her reading nook was designed to allow room for an extra spot for sleepovers and a place to display her cheerleading awards and medals and treasured mementos.

62 IBB AT HOME

The bathroom was designed in gray and white with gold and blush accents. The marble chevron pattern was a favorite, so we used it as a feature for the vanity wall. Gold-leafed mirrors and sconces complete the custom design.

IBB AT HOME 63

CHASE’S BEDROOM & BATHROOM 64 IBB AT HOME

Reclaimed wood boards were used to create a focal point for the bed wall. Navy with accents of orange was selected for the room’s palette. Large metal letters personalize his design, and lamps with metal mesh shades appeal to the room’s masculine design. A custom upholstered bed was designed with rectangular panels, and cerused wood nightstands in a light finish complement the wood accent wall. Performance fabrics were used for the built-in daybed in his reading nook. Adjustable shelving gives him plenty of space to display trophies and memorabilia.

A laser-cut linear marble pattern was used to cover the vanity wall, and a backlit mirror gives a modern touch to the design. We painted the cabinet in a deep navy to tie into the room’s palette.

IBB AT HOME 65

66 IBB AT HOME

UPSTAIRS GAME ROOM The upstairs game room was designed with built-in desks to designate a homework and study area. The room’s palette was inspired by the fabric used on the backs of the desk chairs. A sofa and swivel chair offer additional seating to read or watch movies. Color-blocking drapery panels tie the room’s colors together, and the original artwork from La Montage is a nod to the family’s love for dogs.

IBB AT HOME 67

MEDIA ROOM & BAR Three dimensional metal tiles cover the tv wall for a dramatic effect in the media room. A floating credenza was designed in a blue-gray paint color and has large hardware centered on the door. The sectional allows for ample seating for the room. Sofa tables paired with counter stools behind the sectional provide extra seating and the perfect spot to have a snack while watching movies. We used the same blue -gray paint on the bar on the opposite side of the room. Floating glass shelves and a hammered silver sink complete the design.

BASEMENT POWDER BATH & WINE ROOM

The blue-gray marble was our jumping off point for their basement powder bath. An integrated sink was fabricated from a gorgeous blue calcite slab. Glass and nickel hardware, an acrylic and nickel mirror, and an acrylic and silver leafed sconce (hung horizontally) add to the design without being visually overpowering. We mimicked the chevron motif from the flooring to design the wine room’s storage racks finished in a rich cobalt. Stacked quartz stone lines the walls of the temperature-controlled storage room, and suspended cables offer additional wine storage. A 72 table with metal apron paired with Klismos chairs gives them an area for dining and wine tasting. Textured faux leather seats provide a worry-free experience, as spills can easily be wiped up without ruining the chairs. An oversized acrylic oil painting adds color and interest to the room. ORGANIZING

PANTRY MAKEOVER

BY VALERIE WOOD, OWNER, NEAT METHOD DALLAS valerie@neatmethod.com neatmethod.com @neatmethod on Instagram

While ALL organizing is fun for the NEAT girls, one project we particularly love is a pantry makeover! There is nothing more inspiring than NEATly labeled containers, jars, and baskets in a perfectly organized pantry. So, take a moment and learn how the NEAT girls complete this step-by-step process.

Step 1 :: Prioritize ::

Consider what is most frequently used. Make sure those items are placed on the shelves that are at eye level.

Step 2 :: Out of Sight, Out of Mind ::

What can the kids eat? If you don’t want your children grabbing for the chocolate after dinner, put that up high and have kid-friendly snacks right where they can see them. This also helps with those adult cravings, too!

Step 3 :: Check your expiration dates ::

Nothing makes you look like an inexperienced chef more

88 IBB AT HOME

Photos courtesy of NEAT Method

than expired items. Keep in mind, many things like spices have expiration dates that are 5+ years out, so when it’s expired, it means it has been around a while!

Step 4 :: Categorize ::

Separate your pantry into fun, simple categories. We love labeling popcorn, chips, and crackers as “salty snacks” and then cookies, candies, and other specialties as “sweet treats.” Don’t be afraid to create categories for the season and change them up like you do your wardrobe. You might be baking more in the fall and need a larger bin than in the summer.

Step 5 :: Implement ::

It is important to purchase items that are not only visually appealing, but also functional. In a NEAT Method pantry, you will find one or more of the following: baskets, containers, jars, chalkboard labels, and of course hanging tags.

Step 6 :: Enjoy ::

Literally! Take a step back and enjoy your mouthwatering pantry. You are now one step closer to living the NEAT life!

SWEET POTATO RICOTTA GNOCCHI WITH A GARLIC BROWN BUTTER HERB SAUCE

RECIPE

MAKES 6-8 SERVINGS | PREP TIME: 30 MIN. COOK TIME: 20 MIN.

By Maegan Brown @thebakermama on Instagram TheBakerMama.com

INGREDIENTS:

Gnocchi: • 2 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes (2 large sweet potatoes) • 1-1/2 cups fresh ricotta • 2 teaspoons kosher salt • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for work surface Brown Butter Sauce: • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter • 1 clove garlic, minced • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, sage and/or chives) Lemon Ricotta: • 1-1/2 cups fresh ricotta • Zest of half a large lemon (about 1 teaspoon) • Juice of half a large lemon (about 2 teaspoons) • Salt to taste, about 1/2 teaspoon

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Bake or microwave the sweet potatoes to cook them. To bake, heat oven to 400°F. Pierce sweet potatoes several times with a fork. Bake until tender, about 40-45 minutes. To microwave, pierce sweet potatoes several times with a fork. Microwave on high for 5-8 minutes or until tender. 2. Let sweet potatoes cool slightly before slicing down the middle and scooping out the flesh. Mash the sweet potatoes and use a measuring cup to transfer 2 cups to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the ricotta and salt until well combined. Add the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. 3. With floured hands, form the dough into a ball and place on a large lightly-floured work surface. Divide the dough into 8 smaller balls and roll each ball into a 1-inch thick rope. Cut each rope into 1-inch pieces, about 120 gnocchi total. 4. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once the water comes to a boil, add a teaspoon of kosher salt and return to a boil. Add the gnocchi in 4 batches, covering the bottom of the pot with a single layer of gnocchi each batch. Cook until gnocchi float to the top and are tender to

92 IBB AT HOME

taste, about 5-6 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, drain the gnocchi and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place in a warm oven or tent with foil to keep warm while you cook the remaining gnocchi. 5. To make the brown butter sauce, place the butter and minced garlic in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook until butter is melted and just starting to turn a golden brown, stirring frequently. Turn heat to low and add the chopped herbs. Let the herbs sizzle into the brown butter for a minute before turning the heat off. 6. To make the lemon ricotta, place the ricotta, lemon zest, and lemon juice in a small bowl. Stir together until well combined and smooth. Stir in salt to taste. 7. To serve, place the gnocchi in individual serving bowls and drizzle generously with the brown butter sauce. Top each serving with a dollop of lemon ricotta. Or toss all of the gnocchi with the brown butter sauce and serve family-style with the lemon ricotta on the side.

NOTES: Leftover cooked gnocchi can be stored in the

refrigerator for up to 4 days and in the freezer for up to a month. Reheat by placing in boiling salted water until tender and warm in the center.
