Cordoba, in effect, was the new Rome and Ibiza basked in her glow. But, these halcyon days were cut short by ruinous infighting in the early 11th century. Over the course of a 22-year civil war, the caliphate splintered into a patchwork of petty states (known as “taifas”), each vying for supremacy under its own regional king. In 1014, Ibiza, along with the other Balearics, was violently seized by the Taifa of Denia, one of the most powerful of these states thanks to its welldeveloped naval and commercial ports. The islands’ taifa years were characterized by despotic rule under the tyrant Mujahid, known to history by his Latin name, Mugettus Rex.

ES despotismo bajo la implacable tiranía de Mujahid, conocido en la historia por su nombre en latín, Mugettus Rex. Como wali de Denia cuando estalló la guerra civil, Mugettus estaba en una posición óptima para usurpar el poder. Con fama de hombre despiadado, su reino se recuerda como cruel y exigente, especialmente referente al ámbito económico, que había sido tan favorable durante el califato. EN His governance is remembered as cruel and exacting, especially in contrast to the economic climate that had been so favourable during the Caliphate. Domestically, he clamped down on free trade, created state-run monopolies and implemented ironfisted fiscal policies that practically amounted to extortion. In foreign policy, he established piracy as the primary means of “diplomacy”. He skilfully used the Balearics as a staging ground for naval assaults against the Christian trade circuits that were beginning to flourish in the northern Mediterranean. Muggetus died in 1045, and his death brought a brief period of renewed tolerance. The new king, his son Ali, proved to be as mild and benevolent as his father had been fierce and autocratic. Indeed, it was none other than King Ali who engaged Ibiza’s very own Al-Sabbini to be poet laureate at his court in Denia. Unfortunately, Ali died young when he was betrayed by his venal father-in-law, who usurped mainland Denia, but did not take the further step of capturing the islands.

In particular, the busy shipping lanes linking the rising cities of Barcelona, Genoa, Marseilles and Pisa were regularly sabotaged by Balearic piracy. Angered by these assaults, the Pisans decided to strike back, enlisting the aid of Barcelona to the cause. The joint expedition, known fittingly as the PisanCatalan Crusade, was sanctioned in 1113 by Pope Paschal II and enjoyed additional naval support from Italy, Provence, Sardinia and Corsica. The campaign was undertaken in two stages. First, a reconnaissance tour sailed to Ibiza to assess the situation and quickly realized that its

EN walls could not be breached without a serious war effort. The invaders merely raided the countryside and went back home, looting randomly in Mallorca and Menorca as they passed. The second stage of the crusade was launched in earnest by the dual desires to eradicate Balearic piracy and free the many Christian captives held in Moorish dungeons. Again, Ibiza was targeted first, with a fleet of 500 ships converging on the island in June of 1114. After a bitter seven week siege the citadel surrendered - but not without a fight. Ibiza’s wali, (leader) Abu al-Mundir, a former Christian converted to Islam, gave his life defending his turf in fierce hand-to-hand combat. The crusaders wasted no time in freeing the Christian captives and demolishing the city’s fortifications. That done, they set off for Mallorca which was their primary objective. ES Los cruzados no perdieron tiempo en liberar a los cautivos cristianos y demoler las fortificaciones de la ciudad. Hecho esto, partieron para Mallorca, su objetivo principal. El cerco de Palma duró ocho meses y finalmente forzó la capitulación de los defensores musulmanes. Tras liberar a los cautivos cristianos, arrasar la isla entera y esclavizar a la totalidad de su población, los cruzados simplemente se retiraron… cosa que dejó a las islas nuevamente en un estado temporal de no-gobernanza. Esta situación dejó la puerta abierta para los almorávides, un clan ascendiente de bereberes que ya gobernaban en Al-Ándalus. En 1116, los almorávides armaron una flota, se dirigieron al puerto desolado de Palma y emprendieron la labor de reconstrucción. Ibiza también permaneció bajo el dominio almorávide hasta 1188 cuando fue capturada sin resistencia por los almohades, otra potencia bereber recién surgida. Esta olvidable fase de estadidad sería el último eslabón del dominio musulmán en Ibiza, que en su totalidad duró 333 años. Al comenzar el siglo XIII, grandes cambios geopolíticos se avecinaban y las islas baleares se verían afectadas de manera duradera. Los catalanes preparaban una gran cruzada con múltiples frentes bajo el liderazgo de su nuevo e intrépido rey, Jaime I el Conquistador (1208-1276). After freeing the Christian captives, laying the island to waste, enslaving its entire population and dividing up the booty, the crusaders simply withdrew… which again left the islands in a state of temporary nongovernance. This left the door open for the Almoravids - an ascendant Berber clan newly governing in Al-Andalus. In 1116 they assembled an armed fleet that sailed into Palma’s desolate harbour and undertook the labour of rebuilding Mallorca and the other Balearics. Ibiza remained under Almoravid rule until 1188 when it fell without a fight to the Almohades, a new Berber power that had arisen. This unremarkable phase of statehood would constitute the last dying ember of Ibiza’s 333 years of Moorish rule. As the 13th century opened another change for Ibiza was brewing on the horizon – and this one would prove to be both seminal and enduring. The Catalans were busily preparing another crusade under the leadership of their intrepid new king James I the Conqueror (1208-1276). As part of the larger “Reconquista”, James conquered Mallorca in1229, but had to postpone the capture of Ibiza for a number of reasons, among them a parallel campaign to take Valencia. Six years passed and the king was still occupied with other theatres of war.

ES campaña paralela en Valencia. Pasaron seis años y todavía el rey se encontraba ocupado en otros escenarios de guerra. Finalmente, Jaime tomó la decisión de delegar la campaña de Ibiza a Guillem de Montgrí, un señor feudal de su confianza. Montgrí era un noble rico con importantes recursos de hombres y barcos a su disposición. No obstante, calculaba que tendría que duplicar sus fuerzas para tomar Ibiza. Su solución era proponer una iniciativa conjunta a otros dos caballeros, Pedro de Portugal y Nuño Sanz, ambos paladines de linajes reales. Acordaron un pacto y el día 8 de agosto de 1235 sus flotas unidas entraron en el puerto de Ibiza. La victoria fue rápida y marcó el comienzo de un capítulo completamente nuevo en la historia de Ibiza. Aunque podría haber parecido simplemente otra incursión medieval no destinada a durar – dadas las frecuentes rotaciones de poder que Ibiza solía experimentar – la Conquista Catalana implantó una cultura que ha perdurado hasta hoy. EN James finally made the decision to delegate the Ibiza campaign to Guillem de Montgrí, one of his trusted warlords. Montgri was a wealthy nobleman with significant resources of men and ships at his disposal, but he calculated that he would need to double his manpower in order to take Ibiza. His solution was to propose a joint initiative with two prominent knights - Peter of Portugal and Nuño Sanz, both scions of royal lineage. A pact was made and, on 8 August, 1235 the combined fleets sailed into Ibiza’s port. Victory was swift and it ushered in a wholly new chapter in the island’s history. At the time this may have seemed like a minor medieval incursion that was not fated to last, given Ibiza’s history of numerous masters. Yet the Catalan Conquest implanted a culture in Ibiza that has endured to the present day. Nearly eight centuries later Catalan remains the official language, and our culture is tied to the Catalan mainland. These ties also run deeply on the genetic level as the DNA of local islanders features an exclusively Catalan genome.

Esto es comprensible en un niño que desciende de tres generaciones de fisioterapeutas y quiroprácticos; a la edad de 17 años Beto ya se había convertido en un quiropráctico profesional. Llegó a Ibiza en 1992, época en la que escaseaban los masajistas en la isla. El joven Beto fue el primero en tener la idea de ofrecer masajes en la playa de Ses Salines. Allí plantó su camilla y su sombrilla, y comenzó a sembrar las semillas de lo que finalmente se convertiría en Ibizamassage. Durante 17 años trabajó en la playa y en domicilios privados, de abril a octubre, haciendo una media de 12 masajes cada día. Hoy en día Beto ya no da masajes personalmente, está centrado en la

El término que se aplica en este contexto es el de “vecindad civil”. Para los no residentes es determinante si la Ley del país de su residencia habitual prevé el pacto sucesorio. Este es el caso por ejemplo de Alemania, de modo que los ciudadanos alemanes pueden suscribir y escriturar este tipo de contrato en Ibiza. Existe una serie de ventajas fiscales de las que se pueden beneficiar los firmantes. Cuando se transmite a un familiar de primer grado un inmueble en Ibiza con un valor de hasta 700.000 € mediante un pacto sucesorio, solo habrá que pagar un 1% de su valor en concepto de Impuesto de Sucesiones, mientras que, si se transmitiese como donación, se gravaría con un 7%. La jurisprudencia del Tribunal Supremo equipara el pacto sucesorio con la herencia, de modo que, al aplicarse la llamada “plusvalía del muerto”, no habrá que tributar por ganancias patrimoniales en el IRPF. En el caso de las herencias hay normalmente una bonificación del 95% en el Impuesto

When signing this agreement, it is important to bear in mind the following aspects: Between the parties, there must be family ties. The most beneficial transmission when it comes to taxing is the one that happens between first-degree relatives (parents – children). The agreement must be notarized. If one of these parties is of Spanish nationality, s/he must have been a resident in Ibiza for at least ten years. The term applied in this context is “continuous residency” (“vecindad civil“). However, application of this fiscal advantage depends on the regulations of each individual municipality. Cuando estás planificando tu cocina, debes tener en cuenta cada cajón y cada superficie para que sepas dónde vas a colocar tus cubiertos, tazas, productos envasados, especies, cazuelas, sartenes, etc. etc. Estos artículos deberían estar fácilmente accesibles para sus respectivos usos. ES Nuestra respiración es algo que podemos controlar y regular, por lo que es una herramienta útil para lograr un estado mental relajado y claro. Practicar ejercicios regulares de respiración consciente no sólo calma y estimula la mente, sino que también puede ayudar con problemas de salud relacionados con el estrés. La respiración 4-7-8 es uno de los ejercicios de respiración más simples y efectivos, y también es una excelente manera de prepararse para la meditación. - Coloca la punta de la lengua justo detrás de los dientes frontales superiores. - Exhala completamente a través de tus labios. - Cierra la boca e inhala por la nariz contando CUATRO. - Aguanta la respiración mientras cuentas SIETE. - Exhala por la boca contando hasta OCHO. - Repite el ciclo hasta un total de cuatro respiraciones completas. - Usa la misma cadencia / tiempo a la hora de contar 4, 7 y 8. Inhala siempre silenciosamente por la nariz y exhala de manera sonora por la boca. La punta de la lengua permanece en la misma posición todo el tiempo. Si tienes problemas para contener la respiración, acelera el ejercicio pero mantén la proporción de 4:7:8. Con la práctica te acostumbrarás a inhalar y exhalar más y más profundamente.
