Building the
Thirtieth Winter Hotel WHEN THE COLD arrives to the Arctic, the river slows down and the landscape transforms. This marks a period of intense activity on the riverbank in Jukkasjärvi – Icehotel Winter is being reborn. Huge blocks of ice, weighing two tons apiece, have been harvested from the river the previous winter and have been stored in anticipation of the new build. This time 31 artists arrived to Jukkasjärvi in late November and together with the experienced builders, art support and lightning team, a new winter hotel emerged for a thirtieth time, once again filled with original ice art.
