Canary Islands President meets King Felipe VI The new Canary Islands President Ángel Víctor Torres made his inaugural visit to the Spanish Royal Palace at the end of July.

At the Palacio de la Zarzuela outside Madrid, he spoke with King Felipe VI for an hour about the Canary Islands and the political situation in Spain. “I was very surprised at how much King Felipe VI knew about the reality of the Canary Islands, both our political and economic situation. He had even read my inaugural speech and appreciated our social commitment in promoting the Islands. We talked about the importance of investing in education and innovation,” said Torres after his visit to the King.

New Disney movie shoot

Eternals on the blissful islands A delegation from Disney Studios has announced the shooting, from October, of a new movie on the Canary Islands, which forms part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series, a universe in which comic and human superheroes meet and save the world together.

The new movie, called Eternals with superstars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanijiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh and Don Lee, directed by Chloé Zhao, is expected to be released in November 2020. This is the largest film project to be realised in Europe in 2019. The locations will be in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

Acid attack on a bulldog A young Italian couple were content until four months ago when they found an apartment in Puerto de La Cruz where they wanted to live in peace with their four dogs.

He immediately put the dog in the shower and then drove him to the vet. The two and a half year old dog had serious and painful open wounds on his head and body that were treated. He will probably have the scars for the rest of his life. His owner has now reported his neighbour to the National Police. “He has no right to do such a thing. What would have happened if a child had been playing there?” criticised the concerned dog owner. n

Fiesta de Los Corazones in Tejina

A hearty party The festival of Los Corazones in Tejina (hearts) can be traced back to the beginning of the 19th century.

It was first mentioned in the diary of Juan Primo de la Guerra, which covers the period 1800 to 1807. He was the third Vice Count of Buen Paso and was born in 1775 in La Laguna. He died in 1810 in Santa Cruz. He also took part in the battle to defend Santa Cruz against Admiral Nelson in 1797. It’s therefore a festival that has a long tradition and is deeply rooted in the hearts and souls of the locals.

On the main day, the Día de Los Corazones on August 25, the residents of the streets Calle de Arriba, Calle de Abajo and El Pico carry gigantic pas-

try hearts to the church of their patron saint, San Bartolomé, at around 11.30am. They are richly and artistically decorated with fruits, ribbons, flowers, twigs and other natural materials. These splendours are created behind closed garage doors, because there is great competition between the streets and everyone wants to have the most beautiful heart, which is then carried in solemn procession to the church entrance. That is no easy task, because the magnificent hearts weigh up to 800 kilograms and are up to 15 metres high.

The annual show of the Perseids, one of the greatest wonders of the night sky, is taking place right now and the Canary Islands are one of the best places in the world to experience them from.

Right up until August 24, ‘shooting stars’ will be flying across the skies at a rate that

will make any newcomer to the sight gasp with exhilaration.

August 9 to 13 will be the most intense period, and during the 12th and 13th you can expect up to 150 every hour! The reason the Canaries are such a great place to be for the show is that the less light pollution there is, the more visible the

The tiny fragments burn as they enter the Earth's atmosphere and leave a bright burst of light across the sky.

The remains left by a comet are known as meteoroids when they are floating around space, a meteor if they enter the atmosphere of a planet, and a meteorite if they land

on ground. Nevertheless, the fact that Perseids are not stars does not take anything away from the spectacle, and it’s well worth taking a trip out to find a spot where you can get a good view. El Teide National Park is a particularly popular location.

Interestingly, Comet 109P/ Swift-Tuttle measures 26km in diameter and takes 133 years to complete its orbit around the Sun, leaving a large trail of meteoroids that burn as they enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Phe Festival in Puerto de La Cruz

Fusion of art, music and creativity This year’s Phe Festival will take place on August 23 and 24, and for the second year running will be complemented by an art exhibition and parallel activities.

The Phe Gallery is already open in Puerto de La Cruz, based in the Espacio Cultural Castillo San Felipe. A total of 18 artists from the Canarian art scene, both new and already familiar faces, will be showing their works, including Bejo, an invited guest whose urban

music is incredibly popular in Spain. The Gallery can be visited until August 24, Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 1pm and from 5pm to 8pm. Admission is free.

Lonely Planet backs campaign

No stone towers on the beach

No photo backdrop for Instagram tourists

In its international online edition, the renowned travel journal Lonely Planet recently drew attention to the continuing campaign begun by the Telesforo Bravo-Juan Coello Foundation.

In July, more than 150 volunteers gathered on Saturdays in Puerto de La Cruz to help remove stone towers that had been erected on the beach and to clean up the rubbish at the same time. The aim of the Foundation is to preserve the natural heritage of the island in such a way that man does not leave traces or make changes. Although the hundreds of towers behind the Castillo de San Felipe were an interesting photo motif for some, they simply don't belong in the landscape.

What is more, this suppos-

edly unimportant action of placing the stones on top of each other has an influence on the local flora and fauna and disturbs the ecological balance. Tiny creatures living under the stones suddenly become defenceless and delicate plants growing in their slipstream are exposed to the breeze. There is also the threat of soil or sand erosion.

It’s therefore all the more sad that, after the campaign, some of the stone towers, which are in no way connected with Canarian tradition, rose again the next day. Jaime Coello, the director of the foundation, calls for more far-reaching consequences. He is supported by the local council, whose councillor David Hernández is currently examining

whether fines and penalties can be imposed on 'tower builders'. In the near future, posters will also prevent people from using their 'building instinct' on the beaches.

Other beaches, such as Playa de El Beril in Costa Adeje, are also affected by the problem.

Other areas are affected by stone ‘hearts’, initials, graffiti and a long etc., all of which are damaging to the ecosystem and are thus opposed by the Foundation’s ‘Leave no trace’ campaign.

The topic of photo tourism, in which popular motifs are uploaded to Instagram and thus sometimes even causing a plague for the respective spots, is currently being discussed again and again in public. Picturesque streets or squares, for example, which daily become

a place of pilgrimage for holidaymakers and thereby disturb the everyday life of the locals, or even unique natural landscapes in which suddenly every holidaymaker who comes into the vicinity has to stop by for the ultimate photo. This often happens in areas that are not prepared for a mass rush and are sometimes really damaged by the many trampling feet.

Puerto de La Cruz council reacted very positively to the publication and sees it as proof that messages about environmental protection also have a very positive resonance in travel journals. In July, Guardia Civil officers arrested a 23-year-old woman, M.C.O.M. in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who used the social networks several times to call on terrorists to assassinate Local Police officers.

She had repeatedly posted “Viva el terrorismo”. The Local Police had asked their colleagues in the Guardia Civil for administrative assistance. The investigations quickly led to the trail of the suspect, who since at least June 2018 had been spreading hate messages about the Local Police as well as appeals for their murder via the social networks. She also turned out to have a previous criminal record for similar offences against the n Local Police in a borough of Tenerife.

As part of Operation Uralita, officers from the Guardia Civil Roca unit, a specialist team which investigates agricultural and farm robberies, has been investigating seven people who are accused of eleven cases of burglary from fincas and storage sheds.

They are charged with stealing over a thousand kilograms of avocados and tools worth over €4,500. A trader who received and sold the fruit is

being charged with receiving stolen goods. At the beginning of the year, an increase in the number of thefts of farming equipment and tools was detected from fincas in Tacoronte, El Sauzal and La Orotava.

Where equipment had been stolen, the thieves later returned to collect the fruit.

The investigation revealed that there were two branches of a network of thieves, which had a common base.

They supported each other, exchanged information about possible targets, working hours and accessibility. The modus operandi was also the same for both. The thieves always arrived early in the evening, but in the daylight, and used weak points of difficult access to enter the fincas. They harvested the avocados of the Hass or Reed varieties, loaded them onto vehicles and disappeared.

The fruit was then sold to merchants, restaurateurs or directly to private individuals. The value of the damage caused cannot be accurately quantified due to fluctuating market prices, but is estimated at around €4,500. Some of the stolen equipment was confiscated and returned to the rightful owners. The case has been handed over to the court in n La Orotava.

It was chilling and usually the kind of thing seen in movies, when the former bar owner and entrepreneur Carlos Machín Quintero was killed in the parking area in front of the language school in La Laguna on April 17, 2018.

Eleven shots were fired in his direction as he left the building. Nine hit him and he died at the scene. The perpetrator escaped with an accomplice who was waiting in a stolen vehicle. Investigations led to four people being remanded in custody on May 31 of this year, followed by five further arrests. Among other items, a 38 caliber revolver and a semiautomatic weapon with modified barrel and silencer were seized. The murder weapon

According to investigations, Evaristo G.R., a lawyer, entrepreneur and former business partner of Machín, would seem to be the mastermind and is said to have offered Ernesto Inocencio O.H., €50,000 to commit the murder. Julio David G.O. was arrested as the alleged driver of the getaway vehicle, and José Manuel M.N. and Dámaso Agustin R.R. under suspicion of helping cover up the crime. The decisive breakthrough in the investigations was apparently an old-type mobile phone, without GPS and Internet connection, which the widow of the victim had found at home and handed over to the police. The SIM card clearly showed that Machín used this mobile phone to make regular phone calls to Evaristo, whom he called 'Tito Tacoronte'. Several of these simple mobile phones were in circu-

lation among those allegedly involved.

The underlying reasons for the murder may be of a business nature. Even after leaving La Laguna's nightlife scene, Evaristo advised his former partner Machín regarding his new start in a plastic recycling company and reviewed the contracts.

In November and December 2017, Machín apparently had liquidity problems and difficulty getting started in the new business. At that time and until shortly before his violent death, records would appear to indicate that Machín and Evaristo were in contact almost daily via the old-style mobile phone with which the victim made a total of 1,188 phone calls.

Of these, 798 were connections with the lawyer Evaristo’s phone number. It is being surmised that Evaristo may have decided to liquidate his client in connection with these financial problems.

Reconstruction of the course of events

Less than two weeks before the murder of Carlos Machín, there appears to have been a meeting in Güímar with the alleged contract killer Ernesto Inocencio O.H., accompanied by his confidante Julio David G. and Evaristo González Reyes. On the evening of April 15, the Renault Clio was stolen by two accomplices (supposedly J.J.M.C. and R.D.A.F.) from an underground car park in Avenida Los Majuelos and was apparently taken to Punta Larga in the borough of Candelaria.

The next morning J.J.M.C. appears to have phoned the alleged hit man Ernesto, presumably to tell him where the vehicle was parked. After a second apparent contact at around 2pm, there was no further contact between these two parties. On the day of the attack (April 17), the driver of the escape vehicle, supposedly Julio David, is alleged to have driven from his home in La Orotava to the home of the accused gunman in Güímar.

Together they are believed

to have driven to La Laguna, where it is presumed they had one last meeting with the lawyer and client.

It is supposed that the pair returned to Güímar afterwards and stayed there until shortly before the execution of the crime at 10.10pm.

Ernesto allegedly fired eleven shots at Carlos Machín, who then lay lifeless in the parking lot. Together with Julio David, the assumed driver of the getaway car, he left the scene. They would appear to have parked the car in Avenida de Los Menceyes and set it on fire. They then apparently contacted José Manuel M. and Dámaso A. eight times, presumably asking for help, and finally they are believed to have spent the night in a finca owned by the latter in La Laguna.

The next morning it’s thought that they drove to an apartment between Guaza and Guargacho, inherited by Julio David and his brothers, where they apparently stayed under the radar for more than two weeks. On April

20, after being switched off for three days, the alleged perpetrator Ernesto's mobile phone was briefly switched on. At that time, it appears that he was still in hiding in the borough of Arona. On April 21, records indicate that several people tried to reach Ernesto. There was a call from his girlfriend.

Another one was answered by the lawyer's domestic staff and a third by a resident of Tacoronte. The police seem to suspect that the latter calls were made by Evaristo.

After his supposed 18-day sojourn in Arona, Ernesto appears to have returned to his apartment in Güímar on May 4.

On May 23, the alleged perpetrator was sentenced to five years for another offence in Tenerife II prison. He already had a record from 1995 and 2012 for possessing a firearm without a licence. Other suspected crimes, so far without resolution or formal charging, include robberies, drug offences, fraud and personal injury. From prison, records showed he phoned his partner and his son. Several times he asked whether a 'pringado' (jerk) had transferred money to him, but his partner denied this. All the suspects continue in custody at n the moment.

Drug mafia in Gran Canaria?

National Police officers from San BartolomĂŠ de Tirajana in Gran Canaria have arrested an Italian man in the Maspalomas district who was the subject of a European detention order issued in Italy.

He was supposedly considered an important member of the Italian Mafia, which distributed drugs throughout Europe, mainly via the Netherlands, Spain and Malta. The gang, it would seem, maintained direct contact with their suppliers from South America and police sources say they were considered highly dangerous. They are accused of selling very poor quality cocaine which was hidden in packets of coffee beans before being shipped.

The investigation of the alleged mafia clan began as early as 2017, when the packages were traced, revealing their apparent connection to suppliers in South America and other suspected distributors in Germany, Holland and Malta.

One of the suspects was in Gran Canaria, according to the Italian police. They therefore asked their colleagues on the island for support by means of a European detention order. Arrests were made simultaneously in Italy and Gran Canaria. The wanted man was detained at the Colorado Golf development in the Maspalomas district.

The organisation would seem to have been dismantled and a total of eleven people were arrested as part of the operation. n

strange noises coming from two suitcases which sounded like birds. The suitcases were immediately retained and a search began for the owner, who was asked to open them.

Inside, the officers found 68 parakeets crammed together in simple metal cages. Among

them were 21 specimens which are under conservation orders and may not be traded. A further 47 budgies which can be sold legally were found, but the Colombian owner could not prove their origin. Some animals had already died apparently due to the miserable transport conditions. The alleged illegal bird dealer

had locked them in makeshift primitive cages and laid out the suitcases with raw spaghetti which was apparently supposed to prevent their detection.

The man was arrested for violating the international ban on trade in protected species and for cruelty to animals. He has now appeared before a magisn trate in La Laguna.

Fish poachers caught in flagrante

The hours of waiting were worth it: the fish poachers were caught in flagrante

Guardia Civil officers on Lanzarote recently filed charges against two fish poachers who were caught red-handed, having violated four standards of the Protection Law 17/2003 of April 10, which regulates fishing in the Canary Islands.

Evidently, of the two suspects, only one was licensed to fish underwater and they had also fished in a nature reserve where these activities are prohibited. In addition, they had not properly marked and secured the site, and had 20 kilos of fish, squid and moray eels with them, which is twice the maximum allow-

able catch of five kilos per person, per day when caught legally.

The capture was made possible thanks to the scrutiny of an off-duty colleague. He was at Playa de La Cantería in the borough of Haría around 10am, and saw two people in neoprene suits with fishing gear going to the northern end of the beach at Punta de los Fariones. Part of the La Graciosa Nature Reserve, the above type of activity is completely prohibited in the area.

He reported his observations to the Seprona environmental unit of the Guardia Civil.

Officers of the Costa Teguise unit started out to investigate and called the Nature Reserve Vigilance Service. However, when they arrived, no one was able to spot the two suspects as, perhaps understandably, the prescribed buoy, which draws attention to diving activities, was not in position.

However, the car with which they drove to the coast was still in the parking lot. The officials waited until 6pm in the area and were thus able to catch the two fish poachers in flagrante as they returned to their car with their diving n gear and catch.

The Char in La Caleta

By Joe Schacher La Caleta is a very chic yet traditional fishing village and still today the name stands for quality fresh fish.

Rob Ng and his team have managed the impossible, starting from zero they have succeeded in giving the Restaurant Char an upscale modern model.

You’ll find this gem just a few metres from the roundabout, between two rows of houses, where most of the restaurants are located in La Caleta, Adeje.

It’s been surprising its visitors since May 2016 and many are now regular customers.

On the lookout for something new and different, Rob found the Josper. What is the Josper and what can it do? For basic barbecuers like the author of this review, it’s simply a charcoal barbecue. (More about Josper grill ovens can be found on the net:www.josper.es).

Samuel Hernández is the head chef of Char. As a little boy, he spent years at the knees of his grandmother, grandpa and uncle learning the business and when he finished school, there was only one direction he wanted to go - the hotel management school in Santa Cruz.

He achieved one of the coveted places at that prestigious establishment and finished his time there with flying colours.

Over the years he has constantly worked his way up the ladder, improving his skills in the restaurants of El Corte Inglés, El Patio in Jardín Tropical (the first one star Michelin restaurant on the Island) and in the Hotel Bahía del Duque.

Samuel is also part of the cooking team that represents Ten-

erife at Madrid Fusion and in gastro events in Hamburg and elsewhere. For the last three years he and his team have been heading the Char. Samuel and the team work together perfectly, nothing falters, the work flows flawlessly.

The menu is clear and concise and yet we let Rob choose for us. Why? It’s simple: everyone has their favourite dishes and usually orders them as well.

With a free hand for the chef, we challenged him and, of course, ourselves. Once again, it was worth it.

The little bite-sized hors d’oeuvre known in French as a ‘amuse gueule’ (mouth pleasure) was on this occasion a tuna mousse served in a cocktail glass. The tuna had been lightly cold-smoked over chips from retired Jack Dan-

iels barrels. Some people may know of this flavour-enhancer in liquid form. In short, it was delicious!

We used the break to get to know Elijah, the Maìtre, who briefly explained the philosophy of the Char: a few but outstanding quality raw materials, passion and time - that’s all it takes, was his short answer. Off to South America for the next dish, whether Chile or Peru is immaterial, both countries know ceviche - raw fish cut into small cubes. The cooking process is triggered by the acidity of ripened lime juice and the addition of a little chilli and coriander makes everyone happy. What more could you want?

Wagyiu or Kobe - must the best beef always come from Japan?

Spain’s offer is the Rubia Gallega from Galicia. For Rob Ng, it is important that the food that his restaurants use is not transported halfway around the globe. That’s how he came to

choose beef from the Spanish Peninsula. He has the contacts and his customers have the great luck to enjoy this marvellous, marbled, nutty-tasting meat. For example as a Tartare – you are encouraged to prepare the chopped meat on your plate yourself. A little lemon juice, salt, pepper, English mustard and an egg yolk were enough for us. Enhanced with a few drops of the finest Spanish olive oil, a first harvest of the Piqual variety, and our tartare became a heavenly dish.

The crowning Pièce de Résistance was a well-matured entrecôte grilled on the bone in the Josper at almost 300 degrees and left to rest before being served with just a touch of Fleur de Sel flakes and some unpeeled, grated potatoes fried in hot oil. Our dogs arrive at the refuge mostly in terrible conditions due to human abuse. We spend a lot of time, veterinary care as needed, and good food to ensure the dog regains full health. It’s a lot of effort, but worth it every time.

We’d like to remind you that a single bite from an infected mosquito can give your dog heartworm, which can lead to a very slow and painful death. We can never overstate the importance of treating your dog to prevent this occurrence. Over 60 per cent of dogs that arrive at the refuge test positive for heartworm. It’s a very costly treatment and very uncomfortable for the dog but one of utmost importance to prevent further pain and suffering.

We have over 220 gorgeous dogs of all shapes and sizes looking for loving homes. We don’t charge for adoptions but donations are very welcome towards the vast running costs of the refuge. Every one of the

Meet Rocky. He’s a very sweet boy, about one and a half years old. He was taken to K9 a few months ago by his owner, as she had become ill and was unable to look after him anymore.

He was extremely confused as he watched his owner walk away, and was a bit nervous at first, but that didn’t stop him from letting the staff and volunteers get to know him – and what a pleasure it’s been they say. And anyone who takes him for a walk always comments that he’s a lovely dog too, and he’s quite chilled with other dogs as well. He does have epilepsy apparently, but this is easily controlled through medication, just one tablet a day.

He really deserves a second chance at a forever home.

Giving up is not an option Ramón Arroyo is a paratriathlete who has been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis since 2004.

For the 41-year-old, giving up was never an option. On the contrary, he concentrates on the good things he has come across since then. "You can feel guilty and give up or realise that it's not your fault that you have MS and take responsibility for your life. It's up to you to realise how much you actually have, such as your relationship with your environment, your friends, and your family" he says.

"I started with sports and began running, first 100 metres, then 150 metres and finally I became a long-distance runner. I realised that I couldn't run faster, but that I could get further and so I became an Ironman. Don't

let anyone tell you what you can't do, try it, set yourself goals and fight for them" he added recently at a lecture at the Adeje Summer University where he also presented his book called 100 Metres, which has now been turned into a film.

Ramón wants to motivate other sick people to fight for a fulfilled life. Multiple Sclerosis is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system. The Spanish Multiple Sclerosis Association estimates that 47,000 people are affected in Spain.

Europe-wide, there are around 600,000, and over two million worldwide. "Nothing can be achieved without effort, hard work, consistency and discipline. One must not give up.

Surround yourself with positive people, learn to say ‘no’, live with compassion and friendship and be grateful. Be yourself, be honest and above all be happy" is his message.

His aim is to encourage sufferers and above all to make the illness, of which most people are unaware, more visible.

There can be relapses and it can be unpredictable. But those who approach it with optimism, like Ramón, can master it. The 41-year-old is married and has two children.

Baseball

The Marlins Spanish champions The Marlins baseball team from Puerto de La Cruz has become champions in the Spanish league yet again.

This is the eleventh time the team has won this title and they have even surpassed Volleyclub Marichal, who held the most numerous national championship titles to date.

Puerto’s mayor Marco González and sports councillor Alberto Cabo welcomed the successful baseball players at the town hall and congratulated them on their success. González thanked the team for their tireless dedication and fighting spirit with which they made the name of Puerto de La Cruz known throughout Spain. They are very proud of n the players and the technical team behind them.

He has been active as an athlete since 2008 and to date, he has completed numerous tenkilometre runs, participated in more than 15 half marathons and four marathons. He also made triathlon competitions with Ironman distances his challenge and on October 6 2013 he won the Ironman Lanzarote after months of preparation, cheered on by family and friends. That meant a 3.8 kilometres swim, 180 kilometres

of cycling and a 42.19 kilometres run, consecutively. It's one of the toughest challenges in sport and so far only four athletes with MS have managed to do it.

Canarian Latin sailing

Las Palmas praised in a travel blog Isaac Martín and Paula Bello recently praised the unique experience they had at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria marina on their travel blog Chavetas.

"The Vela Latina Canaria (Canarian Latin Sailing) arouses passion, of which tourism is beginning to form a part" says one of the most widely read Spanish blogs. The history of these sailing boats in the Canary Islands, which goes back over a hundred years, and their competitions off the city's coast are described and praised for their uniqueness.

"In March/April and October, the trade winds meet the coast of Las Palmas de Gran

Canaria and make the coastline between the area of La Mar Fea and the marina an excellent place to practice this sport.

Frequently changing wind directions and speeds make the races off the Canary coast a special event with manoeuvres that are rarely seen" enthuses the author of the report, who then goes on to explain the unusual dimensions of the sailing boats. for the weekend of September 7th or 8th. I would stick my neck out and predict that the game will be on the Saturday 7th as Spain is playing in the Euros on the Sunday evening but nothing is certain.

Normally Spanish Cup involvement starts for Tenerife in September but not this year. The whole format of the competition has been changed as it converts to a more UK style Cup competition. More smaller clubs will enter for the first time and all games up until the semi-final stage will be a oneoff affair. Tenerife will enter the cup on January 12th which falls on a weekend, another first in Spanish football.

So far the pre-season has thrown up some less than

convincing performances by CD Tenerife. Thrashings of local teams (Águilas 9:0 and CD Marino 0:4) were followed by defeat against Cultural Leonesa 3:0, a team from the league below. A few days later sensations were slightly more positive as the team drew 0:0 at Pontevedra and lost narrowly to Deportivo in a game which they should have won.

With so many changes, a new manager enforcing his new style of play, eight new players (and still three more to come) and the first summer transfer window for the new Director of football the preseason was always going to be slightly strange and how much you can read into it, n I’m not sure.

Difficult start to the season for CD Tenerife

The game will be shown live on Gol tv at 7pm. There is no confirmation as yet if matches in the Spanish Second Division will be shown live on Youtube like they were last season. In fact the whole TV coverage deal is still in the air with pending court cases. Last week the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) announced that there would be no more Friday or Monday matches played but the clubs themselves fearing loss of tv money have objected. Fans have protested about late kick offs and Monday night games especially. CD Tenerife had to suffer seven Fri-

day games last season which affected attendances.

The problem in Spain has always been the late confirmation of just when the matches will be played but to be fair this has improved recently. Match day and times are now known around 3/4 weeks before where it used to be just 9/10 days.

I remember on one occasion in the late 90’s travelling to Las Palmas for the Derby and incredibly, the night before, the kick off time had still not been confirmed! This was due to the tv companies arguing with the clubs.

CD Tenerife play their first home match against Numancia on Sunday 25th August at 7pm before facing a trip to newly promoted Ponferradina.
