News stories that we would like to see in 2010: Global crisis officially over: The headlines will tell us one thing, the trickle down effect of this news may take a bit more time, but we can be hopeful that in 2010 we can begin to put the local economy back together. Tenerife to host Eurovision Song Contest: Is it beyond the bounds of possibility that Spain could lift the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 title, something they have tried so hard (some would say too hard) to do in recent years, with Euro-fever sometimes reaching ridiculous levels. We’ve heard there will be a Canarian group hoping to represent the country, and if it did happen, where better to showcase all that is new and modern and exciting about Spain than in the Santa Cruz Auditorio. Great for business, tourism and trade. Viva España... All road works complete: Nice to think that sooner rather than later all essential road works will be carried out on Tenerife and life for motorists, tourists and commuters will be easier. Spain crowned World Cup champions: Not too hard to imagine, with the country’s football side continuing to sit atop the FIFA world ranking and performing with consistent excellence, 2010 and South Africa beckon. No room at the inn: If all the above comes to pass it will only mean good news for the Canaries, and combine that with the good weather and great resorts and beaches in place, a great summer would be a real bonus for everyone. Welcome to another year, let’s hope at least some of our dreams come true.

Walk for Life
Photos by Phil Crean
The Walk for Life through Playa de las Américas held in early December attracted around 2,000 people. Amate, a Tenerife breast cancer charity and the Spanish national cancer charity, AECC, were the two beneficiaries to share the €8,400 raised on the day. A novelty this year was the swim for life – a group of open sea swimmers who followed the wet route to the finishing tape all in pink swimming hats and floating pink balloons behind them.

Fiestas de San Sebastián La Enramada, Adeje, January 20 and 21
The start of the new year brings this annual celebration in which the local countryfolk and farmers show their devotion to their patron saint. They do this in a very special manner by bringing their farm animals down to the coast of Adeje for a ritual dip in the sea at La Enramada. The animals, mostly horses, are ridden into the water, an act which is credited with numerous miracles and cures. Thousands of pilgrims of all ages and from all parts of the island attend this celebration with the hope of a rapid recovery to good health or to request or fulfil a promise. There are usually numerous offerings left at the nearby chapel of San Sebastián where several religious services will be held and the day finishes with live music by local bands and a fireworks display.

Clinica Implantologia
The root of the matter by Dr. Chanut
How are painful gums treated? You should use an appropriate toothbrush twice a day, as well as dental floss daily. This will help to prevent periodontal disease. A professional clean at your dental clinic, every three or six months, undertaken by a dentist or dental hygienist will remove the plaque and tartar scale in areas which are difficult for you to reach and which are consequently susceptible to periodontal disease. During a normal dental examination, your dentist or dental hygienist will inspect your gums and the spaces between the teeth and gums to check for periodontal disease. If signs of the disease are found, and have progressed up to a certain point, your dentist should advise you to visit a periodontal specialist, who is a dentist who specialises in treating periodontal disease.
What is periodontal disease? Periodontal disease affects the gums and the structure which supports the teeth. Bacteria which is present in plaque is the cause of periodontal disease. If this is not removed, very carefully, every day by brushing correctly and using dental floss, the plaque hardens and is converted into a solid yet porous substance which is called tartar or scale. Toxins which are produced by the bacteria in plaque irritate the gums. If the plaque is not removed, these toxins force the gums away
from the teeth, and periodontal sacs are formed, which in turn fill with more toxins and bacteria. In advanced stages of periodontal disease, these sacs extend, allowing the plaque to penetrate deeper – to the point where it reaches and destroys the bone which supports the teeth. Eventually, the affected tooth will loosen and either fall out or have to be removed by a dentist.
Stages of periodontal disease There are many forms of periodontal disease. The following are the most common: Gingivitis: This is the least severe form of periodontal disease. The gums become red and inflamed, and bleed easily. Normally, at this stage there is little or no discomfort. Gingivitis is reversible if it is treated professionally and you clean your teeth well at home according to your dentist’s instructions. Mild periodontitis: If gingivitis is not treated, it can progress and become periodontitis. During this mild stage, the disease begins to destroy the bone and tissue which supports the teeth. Moderate or advanced periodontitis: Moderate or advanced periodontitis occurs if the first stages of the disease are allowed to progress january 2010

without appropriate treatment. This is the most advanced form of periodontal disease during which there is an extensive loss of bone and supporting tissues. Childhood periodontitis: Local juvenile periodontitis (PJL) affects adolescents and is characterised by a rapid loss of bone around the permanent teeth. Ironically, youngsters with this disease usually have very little plaque or tartar scale. Generally, juvenile periodontitis is usually considered to be a disease which

affects young adults, although it can begin during puberty. It is characterised by marked inflammation and a strong accumulation of plaque and tartar scale. Sacs form around the affected teeth and fill with infected matter. If this condition is not treated rapidly, the infection can lead to the loss of bone, which in turn leads to loosening and movement of the teeth.
Signs and warning signals Sometimes, periodontal disease can progress without giving any visible signs or discomfort.

Oxyjet at Zenzi
Breathe new life into tired skin Are you feeling a bit jaded and is your skin lacking in lustre following the season’s festivities? The incomparable remedy for rejuvenating and restoring the feel good factor, hailed as a breakthrough in the treatment of ageing skin is oxygen therapy. Many A listers are taking advantage of this discovery to breathe new life into their skin. Elle McPherson swears by it, Demi Moore and Sharon Stone rave about it and Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Madonna are all fans. Oxygen is our primary source of energy. It is the fuel required for the operation of all our body systems. In fact 90 per cent of our energy comes from oxygen, only 10 per cent comes from food and water. Oxygen is the elixir of life. The leading system on the market is Oxyjet. It was developed in a German research institute by husband and wife scientists Lothar and Jutta Bode.
the magazine
They surmised that as cell division and growth of surface skin took place in the deeper layers of the epidermis, cosmetic formulations needed to be inserted into this biomatrix to be truly effective. Young skin is fresh and vital, and does not suffer from a lack of energy, because the epidermis is adequately supplied with oxygen and nutrients. Older skin, on the other hand, is poorly supplied with these two vital substances. From the age of 30, cell division begins to slow down causing the skin to gradually become thinner, dry and wrinkled. Age spots appear because there is not sufficient energy to distribute melanin evenly and the lack of oxygen and nutrients in the epidermis results in decreasing skin tone, the formation of

lines, and uneven skin pigmentation. The Oxyjet system allows special cosmetic formulations to be ‘injected’ deep into the epidermal layer with pulsed oxygen pressure and gentle oxygen spray. There are treatments to combat ageing, acne, cellulite and pigmentation. The products have been medically developed and promote the regeneration of tissue, collagen and hyaluronic acid. The botox effect is produced by a natural protein which inhibits the reactions which cause muscles to move or contract offering a toxin free alternative. The Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Technology in St. Ingbert, Germany, has confirmed the effectiveness of the Bode Oxyjet treatments. There are four treatments available with proven exciting results. The Anti Acne treatment is a skin rejuvenation system which dramatically reduces acne, giving the skin a clear fresh look. It has been scientifically proven to eliminate imperfections, fight bacteria associated with acne and help to restore hormonal balance. The Beauty Light treatment is an effective way of diminishing age spots and pigmentation disorders caused by over exposure to the sun, without the use of harsh chemicals and bleaching agents. The Beauty Tox treatment is scientifically proven to lift lines and wrinkles giving a fresh youthful look to the face and neck without resorting to painful needles or expensive surgery. It is totally natural and harmless and does not alter the natural facial expression. 12
The Energising Facial is proven to reenergise as new life is breathed into the skin, giving a healthy, radiant glow and leaving it feeling firmer. With the Oxyjet system, it is no longer necessary to resign oneself to unpleasant changes to one’s skin. The procedures are pain free and the result is smooth, wrinkle-free, blemish-free and youthful skin.
Four simple steps to a brighter youthful you 1. The skin is thoroughly cleansed, toned and gently exfoliated. A few drops of Serum are applied to small areas at a time and then pushed into the dermal layer of the skin by pressurised oxygen. 2. To rejuvenate and hydrate the skin, a calming oxygen massage is given using the special Oxyspray nozzle. 3. Intense moisturising serum is then applied to delicate areas, followed by a full collagen and caviar mask. 4. A combination of oxygen and aromatherapy oils is inhaled, revitalising the inner body and maximising the benefit of the whole treatment. The treatment concludes with the application of luxurious and nourishing finishing creams. Treatments last between one and a quarter and one and a half hours, cost from €50 to €90 and are available at Zenzi, CC El Camisón, Playa de las Américas.

El Médano is the home of the longest natural beach in Tenerife
also surfing schools for those wishing to learn how to challenge the waves. Information about these and about hiring can be obtained from most hotels in the area, or visit El Picacho surf shop where you’ll find everything you need for surfing. This piece of heaven in a highly attractive environment is the ideal place for a family rest. Although it is classed as a tourist resort, it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the bustling areas of Playa de las Américas. El Médano is the home of the longest natural beach on the island with fine golden sand and shallow waters, and is continually bathed in cooling breezes which temper the heat of the sun. There are dressing rooms and showers available and it is the perfect place to take a morning or evening stroll along the attractive wooden slatted promenade. Stop at a beachside café and simply watch the world go by. There are no noisy discos or nightclubs, but a healthy assortment of bars and restaurants of many nationalities, and nightlife of a more relaxing nature. Even though it has retained its typical Canarian atmosphere, nowadays, this once small fishing village is also a thriving commercial centre which is attracting many different types of businesses which cater to your

every need. For example, if you would like to treat yourself, pop in to Unplugged Hairdressers, a one-stop shop for hair and nails which can be found in Calle Viera y Clavijo. The more energetic can try mountain biking, kite surfing, or discover the surrounding countryside. The protected area of Montaña Roja (the Red Mountain) contains a reddish sand volcanic crater which has been nearly flattened by sea erosion, the sea has carved steep cliffs and rain has cut its slopes into various radial and shallow ravines. The constant flow of sand being carried away by the wind has created a fossil dune at the south eastern base of the mountain. With part of the dune submerged, it has become the home of several species of birds. Another area worthy of a visit is Montaña Pelada, and for those inclined, the nearby nudist beach. In El Médano, visit Café M on the beachfront for drinks and snacks in the daytime and an evening menu on Fridays and Saturdays, or watch the sunset from Manfred Soul Bar in Calle José Miguel Galvan Bello while you enjoy Spanish and Italian tapas, Pintxos or sandwiches. El Médano is far from the madding crowd, and the perfect place to chill out. 25

The menu is a Canarian, Spanish and Mediterranean mix with a selection to suit all tastes and budgets and the restaurant attracts an international clientele of English, Irish, Spanish and Germans. Maitre, manager and master of ceremonies is Emilio OrtĂz, an Andalusian who has been living in the island for over 30 years. His is the gourmet guiding hand that makes the restaurant such a delight for epicures. Starters range from salmon and prawn cocktail and Serrano ham to fried goats cheese and garlic prawns. more adventurous. A particular favourite on the main menu is the fish baked in salt which must be ordered in advance, as should the mouthwatering suckling pig, but there is a marvellous selection of fish and shellfish fresh every day and one of the best meat selections in Tenerife with superb sauces. As a master butcher’s son, Emilio knows the importance of prime meat cuts and how to dress them properly. Their chateaubriand is superb, as are the delicate and delicious baby lamb chops and the plum stuffed chicken breasts and don’t forget to ask for the specials menu of the day where you will find treasures like pork in port wine. For the sweet toothed there are Spanish and Canarian standard favourites or surprises on the specials menu like carrot cake and toffee apple sponge or they have excellent cheeses for those who prefer to round off their dining experience with something savoury. after dinner drinks is once again the terrace which has a magical feeling in the twilight and evening with fairy lights in the trees and magnificient sunsets. The house wine is Coto de Hayas from the Campo de Borja in Aragon, the red a blend of garnacho and syrah grapes and the white is a chardonnay. It is not an extensive list, but one to tempt the best palates with guaranteed quality wines from Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Rueda and Abona. This is an ideal venue for a private party for up to 80 people and they are quite happy to let you install a themed decoration or they can call on a talented local man who ‘paints’ the tablecloths with coloured sands. Audi’s breathtaking aluminium bodied sports car, available with eight or ten cylinder power, is ready for either the road or the track. We took an on-road trip in our R8 4.2 FSI Quattro which had been immaculately valeted by Eliot in Los Cristianos.

The ultra-high performance R8 combines the time-honoured hallmarks of classic sports cars with futuristic construction, transmission and suspension technologies, and has the reassuring presence of the quattro four-wheel drive system. equipment. The 2.65-metre wheel base also allows for a spacious interior with luggage space behind the seats and in the front compartment under the bonnet, which has a 100-litre capacity. In the most powerful R8 to date electric adjustment and heating is added for the sports seats, plus DVD satellite navigation and a CD changer playable through a 465-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system. An interior light package including LED footwell lighting, light and rain sensors and LED engine compartment lighting also comes as standard. Mounted longitudinally directly behind the cockpit is a high-revving unit emitting a roar which brings Formula 1 to mind. The V8 4.2-litre petrol engine delivers 420PS. Spinning freely to its 8,250rpm limit, it literally punches the R8 through the 62mph barrier in just 4.6 seconds and can continue on to a top speed of 187mph (301kmh). Put your foot down in this baby and it literally pins you back in your seat! That sounds good, but there’s more. Just released is the new R8 V10, a ten cylinder unit delivering 525PS (at 8,000 rpm), which can reach 196mph, an unprecedented high for a road-going Audi. Both can be supplied with six-speed manual transmission or the racing-inspired R-tronic sequential shift gearbox with joystick and paddle control, which uses ‘shift-by-wire’ technology to provide exceptionally rapid and barely noticeable gear changes. By mounting the potent engine as close as possible to the centre of the vehicle, in deference to racing legends, near perfect 44 per cent front/56 per cent rear weight distribution has been achiejanuary 2010

driving ved for optimum handling balance. Dry sump engine lubrication, also racing derived, furthers this by enabling the V8 to be mounted as close to the road as possible, lowering the centre of gravity. An electronically activated rear spoiler also deploys when sensors detect that composure at high speed would benefit from additional down-force. The advanced Audi magnetic ride configuration, combined with advanced Audi Space Frame (ASF) construction which mates lightweight aluminium panelling with an aluminium space frame, provides the very best operating conditions for this futuristic chassis with its agile double wishbone set-up. The Audi magnetic ride dampers swap conventional fluid for a solution containing tiny magnetic particles which can be influenced by an electroma-
gnetic field. By applying a voltage to the system’s electromagnets, the fluid’s viscosity is altered by the affected magnetic particles, increasing resistance to damper movement to iron out pitch and roll when necessary, and reducing resistance when ride comfort takes precedence. The system constantly monitors road conditions and driving style and reacts accordingly. This extremely driveable car which is well suited to day to day motoring on the island also has fast reacting, communicative and very steady steering. The R8 has striking 19-inch 10-spoke Y design alloy wheels with ventilated and perforated 380 millimetre front and 356 millimetre rear disc brakes, which at extra cost can be upgraded to virtually fade-free ceramic discs. As a safety enhancement, the new V10 is equipped as standard with the world’s first all-LED headlamps. For the first time, high intensity diodes have been used for low and high beam settings, as well as for daytime running lights and indicators, intensifying the sports car’s visual drama. Dramatic, exciting, sophisticated, sporty and super powerful, this is not a car you will become bored with. It is one which, year after year, you will still enjoy driving. The models available in Spain and the Canaries are the R8 4.2 FSI Quattro, R8 5.2 FSI Quattro and R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro. For more information, visit your nearest Audi dealer or www. audi.es.

A gourmet‘s hideaway La Caleta on the coast of Adeje always used to be known as a kind of hideaway amongst local residents, and now it has even more. If you’re a fan of Italian cooking, and let’s be honest the Italians really do know how to prepare good food, especially for lovers of the Mediterranean diet, then you have to visit DJ Cocktails Art Bistrot as soon as possible.

DJ Cocktails Art Bistrot is a bar and restaurant ideal for relaxation. Delightfully classy decor designed with an oriental touch and complemented by chillout music, it benefits from being located in a hidden spot, bringing back memories of La Caleta in years gone by. Italian born Michele and Marilena opened this delightful eatery in the very picturesque harbour in La Caleta just a few months ago, having spent a number of years in New Zealand. They have created an atmosphere conducive to relaxing over great food, with good friends and very good wines, and they speak English, German, Italian and Spanish. This restaurant is for gourmets, you will not find one single pizza on the menu. But you will find mouthwatering Italian starters which make the most of cheeses, salamis, fresh mussels, clams and scallops, garlic, olive oil and sauces. Forget run of the mill pasta, when you sit down at the table in this particular restaurant your taste buds are in for a real treat. DJ Cocktails Art Bistrot really comes january 2010

They could be sauteed with sardines or served with wonderful sauces which melt in your mouth and conjure up images of parts of Italy you may not have visited but have probably dreamt of. Also on the main menu is a mouth-watering range of fresh cod, salmon and veal dishes, and all, we are delighted to report, are at prices which will not damage your bank account. Their VIP menu offers select diners some excellent dishes including for starters Puff Salmon and Caviar, and Tongue in Green Sauce, and for main course, live Lobster cooked to your liking. Why not try a delicious Champagne and strawberry risotto, or even Greek Granseola, and complement your meal with fresh vegetables or a choice of fresh crispy salads including Greek and mixed Italian varieties. Remember in any case that you will have to leave room for desserts, which are as good as after dinner treats could possibly be. How could you possibly resist a Tiramisù all’amaretto? The wine menu offers a good selection of Italian and Spanish white, red, rosé and sparkling wines, sweet, medium and dry, as well as the best Champagnes in the world. There is something for everyone at DJ Cocktails Art Bistrot, which makes the perfect venue for that special meal.

and large retail outlets in the UK such as Marks & Spencer as well as in homes across the globe. The flooring is supplied in strips and replicates wooden planks in finishes including textured oaks, walnut, cedars, pine, driftwood, sycamore, beech, in fact there are too many textures and shades to mention. The material is also available in square format replicating tiles, in finishes such as slate, classic stone, ceramic, marble, terracotta, granite, Italian mosaic and pebble. To personalise your floor, there is an ample range of borders to choose from as well as patterns and insets (these can be ready to use or created from your own design or company logo) which can form a focal point in your floor and make it truly individual. You can literally design your own floor, as Island Interior Design has a design table on which you can lay out samples of your chosen finishes and colours, until you reach the effect that you desire. Estimates are provided free of charge, and once your premises has been measured, a computer image can be created to show you exactly what your floor will 44
look like when installed by qualified fitters. Design flooring is guaranteed, for 12, 15 or 20 years, so you know it is money spent well. Many of the Searchlight Electric products are held in stock, but in the case that an item has to be ordered, the waiting time is likely to be four to six weeks. The range includes crystal, pendant, wall, outdoor, floor and table lights as well as decorative and flush fittings, spotlights and recessed lights. There are also bathroom fittings, mirrors and a range of quality ceiling fans which are guaranteed for 10 years. Searchlight Electric includes the Illuma lighting solutions range for the commercial, retail and leisure sectors and all products come in extremely attractive state of the art designs and of high quality.

Harbour Tours: there are lots of different boat trips on offer from catamaran tours to lunch cruises and ferry trips. Further afield are the water-sculptured limestone grottoes called Waitomo Caves. After walking through cathedral like vaults, the highlight of the trip will be a boat ride through the glow-worm grotto. The place not to miss is Rotorua - Thermal Wonderland, often known as Sulphur City, it is the world famous area for gushing geysers, bubbling mud pools and gurgling hot springs. The geothermal activity is absolutely amazing. Whakarewarewa has the granddaddy of geysers, belching up to a height of 100 feet. There are thermal spas all over the place. The area has a large Maori population and the cultural activities that take place are among the most interesting in the country. When it’s time to eat don’t forget that New Zealand lamb is probably the best in the world (there are millions of the woolly things running about). However if you would like to try something a little bit ‘Kiwi’, then it’s best found in the seafood. Try the green lipped mussels, Auckland rock oyster or battered mussels. For a sweet try the Tangelo - a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit, the ice creams especially january 2010

the hokey pokey (with crushed puff candy) or in tropical flavours are mouthwatering. Don’t forget the New Zealand wines, in particular Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay have an excellent reputation. Many of the restaurants are BYO which means you can take a bottle of wine into the restaurant that you have bought elsewhere, but for a real treat go to a wine bar and let the wine tender pamper your taste buds. Auckland has some awesome beaches up and down both coasts. To catch a bus to any location go to the Britomart Transport Centre which is opposite the ferry centre. The explorer bus departs on the hour from 9am until about 4pm daily.

Golf Pro Tip
How to hole more putts from inside ten feet 1
2
3
4
48
Every golfer fears the so-called yips. This is when an uncontrolled twitchy putting stroke makes the golfer miss putts from a very short range. So why is nobody yipping from 20 feet? The answer is that there is no interference from the brain because the player is in the ‘playing mode’ and is not thinking about the technical aspects of the putting stroke which happens when the brain is in the ‘learning mode’. When we practice on the putting green, it is fine to switch into ‘learning mode’ as we are working on our stroke, but when we go out there to play we should switch into ‘playing mode’. This may sound difficult, but we do it every time we have a good day on the green. Having a good pre-putting routine will put the player in the right emotional state of mind, or in other words, into ‘playing mode’. 1. The main object is to clear our brains of any ‘rubbish’ which could affect our chances of making a silky putting stroke. This is only possible if we stay in the present while making the putting stroke. How do we do this? Try this method: When you have already assessed any possible braking influences on the line-up of your putt, address the ball as
you normally would and take your aim. 2. Look at the front of the ball, this is the side of the ball closest to the hole, as most of the better players on tour always do. This enhances the action of putting with progressive acceleration which is the key to a good stroke and hitting at the right speed. 3. As you start your backswing, listen to yourself saying the word, “rock” (the term for the shoulders taking the putter head back). 4. As you are about to hit the ball with your downswing, say to yourself, “n roll”. It works! The idea is to avoid any interference from your brain as you make the stroke. We are emptying the brain of any rubbish which might affect your stroke with fatal consequences. This is how to stay in the present while putting and avoid thinking of the outcome because that is what will bring the yips into the game. Remember, on the greens, “Rock ‘n Roll”.

TaylorMade R9 For the last few years, nobody has been as critical about the TaylorMade line of irons than The Hackers Paradise. My personal opinion was that the R7 line of irons was a step backwards for the company, and the clubs offered, in no way, lived up to the TaylorMade name in terms of R&D and quality. The 2009 Burner irons that the company has put out is a strong contender in the game improvement category and was certainly a step in the right direction in the opinion of our testers. When we got a call to be one of the first to try out the TaylorMade R9 Irons several months ago, we jumped at the opportunity.
First impressions One of my biggest criticisms of the previous line from TaylorMade was the look of the iron. Anybody who shared my issues need not worry any more. The R9 irons are remarkably different and quite striking. The black insert on the back is simple and clean and not filled with graphics. We have seen others mention that it looks “cheap”, I can assure you that in person they do not seem to look that way at all. They have a clean and traditional look and shape and the last thing that stands out immediately is the shaft. TaylorMade has added the hugely popular KBS shafts to the R9 set. After about 10 minutes of staring at the new box of clubs, we were ready to get to some serious testing.
First range session As most of our readers know, THP’s reviews are normally filled with multiple golfers trying each piece of equipment to give our readers a thorough review and not just one person’s opinion. The TaylorMade R9 irons are no different and by the time you finish reading this review you
the magazine
will see what we are discussing here. However for the first range session, I admit it, I was being selfish. I went to the range with the new irons and spent about an hour hitting these irons as well as a set of R7 irons. From the moment you hit your first ball with these you will realise that they are a completely different animal to the sets from the last few years. The feel that the R9 irons give off is soft and smooth, and when you go back to the R7 irons you have a much harder impact feeling. After about an hour of hitting balls, the first day with the new irons had come to an end and here are my opening notes. Looks – as good as I have seen out of TaylorMade. These look spectacular in my opinion. Plain and sleek with some nice colour where needed. Regular R9 irons are of similar size to the R7 in terms of top line and sole in my view. Cavity is great looking and simple. 28 of the 32 golfers who tried the TaylorMade R9 irons like the looks of them compared to what they felt was out in the marketplace. Feel – this is something I was definitely not a fan of with the R7 line. I thought they felt clicky and hard. Not the case at all. Extremely soft. Great feedback given on mis-hits despite them being a GI iron. The TP version will no doubt have even more of this (feedback). Forgiveness – the iron really shines here. Toe or heel mis-hits barely even affected the club, however at the same time all the feedback was there. Shocked at how little distance was lost when missing the sweet spot. Distance – not as long as the Burner irons, but few things are. About a half a club longer than what I am currently playing per iron. Overall – after one range session, I would have to say that these may have it all. Great look, soft feel and solid forgiveness makes a wonderful total package. shop@golfshoptenerife.com

Musical delights The Canary Islands Music Festival takes place throughout the Canary Islands, though most performances are concentrated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The brain child of the then regional president Jeronimo Saavedra in 1985, the three primary goals of the festival are, to enrich the cultural programme of a region with a long tradition in music, to heighten the international profile of the Canary Islands through something other than the sunshine and beaches for which
the islands are already well known and to attract more cultural tourism to the islands. The history of music in the region can be traced back to the beginning of the 19th century when European opera companies stopped over in the Canary Islands on their way to South America, making good use of their stay to offer the recitals and performances which helped create a significant musical tradition. It is worth bearing in mind that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can boast the oldest private society in the whole of Spain founded to organise concerts. With over 150 years
to its credit, the Philharmonic Society of Las Palmas can also claim Camille SaintSaĂŤns as one of its presidents. Running from January 8th to February 7th, this is the 26th year of the festival, and will offer the public concerts from an excellent selection of international classical music greats, including the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev and London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski.
