IEducate THE MARKETING TEAM
To our readers,
In these years of giving the BulSU IE community worthwhile and reliable information, IEmmensity has become an integral part of the Bulacan State University-Industrial Engineering Department’s dedication to excellence, as a leader of instruction, research and extension. IEmmensity was rooted from the word “immense” and partnered with “IE” which has been a symbol of excellence with its dedication for continuous improvement. As we face these unprecedented times, IEmmensity continues to deliver and provide BulSU-IE community bite-size news, information, and entertainment for all its readers. However, due to lack of funds and confusion within Student Development Units, IEmmensity’s yearly issues had been halted. The confusion and the implementation of new-normal learning had bought the publication to its base. But, the publication will not stop there. This year, the IEmmensity will publish and continue to adapt as we adjust ourselves to the new-normal setting. Yes, after years of not releasing publication issues, IEmmensity is set to unfold its eNewsletter in quest of broadening its scope in giving more to its readers. An online newsletter which can be read anytime, anywhere, and highlights the capability of IEs to adapt on any given situation. IEmmensity will set its course to more engaging, informative, and to pioneer responsive community engagement from IE department and to the broader public. Indeed, IEmmensity is about excellence in a wider and broader scope with greater input from limited resources- and that adaptability is one of the unique characteristic of an IE. 04 Hult Prize On-Campus Competition is a program that aims to create and transform food innovation into social catalyst of change. The event with the challenge theme, “Food for Good, Transforming Food into Vehicle of Change,” did not only focus on product innovation but also nurturing and honing the knowledge of instructors and participants in advancing the food innovation as a suitable instrument for the modern technology age. Lajato considers themselves as neophytes despite of winning the competition. “Super thankful kami sa mga naging mentors, kay Engr. Jeremy Banez na adviser namin and seniors na tumulong samin and siyempre kay Lord, sa paggabay sa bawat step na ginawa namin.” “Siguro yung approach namin na bawat idea na ilalabas, hahanapan namin ng butas, kukuwestiyunin namin to make sure na feasible ba talaga, eh nakatulong sa pagfafinalize namin,” Lajato added. Sam Reyes, campus director of Hult Prize BulSU highlights the importance of preparations for the regional event, “Marami pa silang pagdadaanan, they will compete for the Regional Summit next March-April with other Hult Prize OnCampus winners from different schools of different countries.” Meanwhile, Ai Shimura, Jayrous Joshua Ubaldo, Caleb Josh De Jesus, and Aldous Anselmo under the mentorship of Mr. Kevin Facun along with their adviser Engr. Raph Miranda secured third spot in the Hult Prize On-Campus competition. In relation to the Regional Summit, ISIE’s Team Zenkai lapsed against University of Hong Kong’s Team Edilery last 2021 Hult Prize Manila Impact Summit Challenge held via Zoom last April 7-9. After winning the On-Campus Hult Prize Competition, Jobert Lajato shared his thoughts on representing the school on international stage. “In winning the competition, me and my team are really happy and excited sa future competition. We didn’t expect na for our next competition, we will represent not just the IE department, but also our University. We will compete to overseas team and knowing that fact, makes our team nervous. Unfortunately, we didn’t claimed victory to the regional competition. But the lessons that we have learned are precious and we will bring it to our future endeavors.” Preparations were made for Team Zenkai’s Plant-based Hotdog prototype however, challenges were faced about proper product pitching. “For our preparation, we need funds sa aming experiment. We reach out to different institution and fortunately, nakakuha kami ng sponsors. And we did a lot of trial and erros hanggang sa nakabuo kami ng prototype. During preparations of the prototype, we also prepare for our pitch deck na iprepresent sa competition. Ang naging challenge is time, kulang kami sa time to fully polish our pitch, we think na kulang pa ang nagawa
namin output. And how to indetify the underlying social problems na nageexist. And many ways how to solve it.” Despite considering themselves as neophytes, Lajato highlighted the knowledges they have learned from the competition. “We still consider parin ang team as neophytes kasi as we go on our journey, marami parin kaming natututunan. Lalo na ang hult prize ay internationals, maraming mentors ang nagtuturo and we learned po hanggang present days.”

NEWS ISIE ignites the 1st leg of IEmpowerment Webinar Series from page 1 by Jericho Cardejon and Anjielyn Cortez
BulSU IE Students and several faculty members, joins the webinar which talked about the importance of valuing, recognizing, and responding to mental health issues as well as highlighting the value of one’s personality development An article published from U.S National Center for Biotechnology Information in 2019 reports that 14% of Filipinos with disabilities have identified mental disorders. However, this only includes the disabled population and other mental health-related cases were remained unreported in the Philippines.
05 patayin sya, that is the time to break the confidentiality at kailangan na sabihin ‘yon sa guidance counselor n’yo, advisor n’yo, sa class or sa org, pero ‘pag ang concern nya is more on personal problem, makinig ka lang then pwede naman sila i-refer sa mga tamang tao na pwedeng kumausap sa kanila kasi minsan nagkakaroon tayo ng personal bias, so akala natin nakakatulong yung advice natin kaso hindi, mas nagwworse lang yung situation niya so mas better na irefer natin sila sa tamang tao,” Downplaying the symptoms or the effects of mental health problems may have cause more harm instead of relief to oneself. “So ginaganon [downplaying] nila, di sila naniniwala, so focus ka nalang sa pagtulong, lalo na pag malapit sa inyo yung tao, kausapin mo nalang sya. Then ‘yong s.mga nambabash, so hayaan mo nalang sila, kasi kailangan natin magfocus sa mga bagay na kaya natin kontrolin, which is yung ating sarili”, Ms. Abundo added. On topic of social media consumption and dealing with attacks on online platforms, she reiterates that people should have 5-15 minute physical breaks to prevent burnouts or fatigue on workloads. “Always have time for a physical activity, at least 5-15 mins magkaroon ka ng break or at least nagkakaron ka ng break at para di ka rin maburnout sa ginagawa mo,” she added. Social media attacks or trolling had been persistent and increased during the pandemic. Moreover, she advices to refrain from engaging with internet trolls and not letting their ego, instead let them have them at their game. “Kapag inattack ka sa social media, mas maganda na ‘wag ka nalang magreact, so hayaan mo nalang sya kasi the more na magrereact, mas sinasatify mo lang yung ego nya. Siya ‘yong maapektuhan sa mga bagay na sinasabi nya.” On the other hand, Mr. John Ian Susi, a campus missionary and life coach, talked about developing one’s personality. He emphasized the acronym LIFE which denotes to Leadership, Influence, Faith and Excellence which are important factors in personal development. “Personality Development is a lifelong process…you cannot push yourself na dapat madevelop ‘ko na yung certain area na ‘to.para mamaster ko na, para maging magaling na ko.”
Ms. Michelle Abundo, a registered psychologist and psychometrician, talked about ways on how to address mental health issues on oneself and people with mental health problem. There were numerous factors that discourages people from seeking professional help. Many Filipinos seek more help to their families before trained professionals. There is also a shame present with mental illness due to ongoing stigma seen which results on some people hiding them and causing their mental health to get worse. “Ang unang gagawin is to acknowledge them, and then yung Currently, a number of influencers second thing to do is understand, makinig ka lang pero kunwari yung friend are cancelled as their unlikeable mo is gusto na nya magpakamatay or personality is exposed. When asked
about the cancel culture, he pointed that no one has any right to cancel someone. “I believe it is not the person whose been cancelled…we do not have the right to cancel anyone because we are all the same in the same level. Siguro iba-iba lang yung status pero generally speaking we are all human being…Personality development is also character development.” One of the things emphasized is the Excellence and part of achieving it is grabbing opportunities that are coming our way yet most students are afraid of taking risks. One of the factor influencing it is the idea of whether that certain opportunity is a calling or not. “Opportunities will surely come pero again opportunities, yung open doors ay nangyayari lang minsan pero if that happens, the only way for us to be able to…to assess if it is the right opportunity, kasi ito yung calling ko, ito yung dapat ‘kong gawin, is to ask my Creator. Kasi siya ‘yung mas nakakaalam kung ano yung wiring ko… Yung magulang ko ginawa lang din naman siya ng Diyos, ibig-sabihin may wisdom sa experience nila…pwedeng maging mouthpiece sila ni God…pero yung 100% assurance and peace ay hindi pa rin from them manggagaling.” He added that for us to determine what we are doing is right, we should feel peacefulness even in the long run. Additionally, as personality development is a lifelong process, it is a journey with people beside us and that’s where community comes in.

06 remarks to welcome the ISIE students, faculty, and the guest speaker. In line with this, the College Dean of Engineering Department, Dr. Ma. Magdalena V. Gatdula gave her meaningful insights regarding to the topic of the said webinar by emphasizing the importance of forming and developing good money habits in the 20s to be in a much better financial position later in life. “Being financially-prepared, you can make life decisions without being excessively concerned about the financial consequences. Rather than being governed by your finances, you can take charge of them”, Dr. Gatdula said. Highlighting the very essence of the webinar, Engr. Erika Jade Dela Pena, an IE graduate, and a licensed Financial Consultant foreground and discussed the benefits of having financial freedom and tips to achieve the goal as early as 20.
Engr. Dela Pena asked the participants what is financial freedom to them? One of the participant answered “financial freedom is having control on finances”. While one of the freshmen says “financial freedom is when you know how and where to spend your money”. Participants of the webinar actively share their different answers. However, according to Engr. Dela Pena, “There’s no right or wrong answer because financial freedom has different meaning to different people and it differs in their priority, budget, budget allocations, investments, and values.” She said that financial freedom gives us control and security. “Binibigyan n’ya tayo ng control over our time, and to pursue yung mga passion natin,” she emphasized. “Syempre because of this, we can take more risk.” she added. According to her, there are six important steps in achieving financial freedom, naming setting life goals as the first one. “Kung wala tayong goal, wala tayong pupuntahan.” she stated. But for her, it’s not just about making financial freedom a goal but as well as happiness. “Somehow, money is essential because money can buy “some” of our happiness”, she added. As the speaker plot the journey through financial freedom, the second stop is cashflow. She noted that there are many ways to increase cashflow,
naming business, trading, freelance jobs, and even personal passions as examples. “It is important to have a cashflow, but the true challenge in that is the planning and managing of it.” She emphasized. Meanwhile, she provided ways on how to improve the cashflow if the income is not enough for the expenses. “Meron tayong two options, it’s either to decrease the expenses or to increase the income.” she explained. On the third step of achieving financial freedom, which is to analyze debts, she discussed the difference between the good debts and bad debts to furthermore enlighten the participants especially about the misconceptions regarding this. “Sa ating mga Pilipino, mayroong misconception na sobrang bad nito (debt). Actually, kailangan muna nating isipin kung saan ba natin gagamitin yung utang. Kasi yung end result nya (debt), yun talaga ang magreresult para maging good debt siya. Kung susugal man tayo sa bad debt, analyze muna nating mabuti kung kayang-kaya siya ng cashflow natin.” she added. Additionally, she included having emergency funds and protection as the fourth and fifth steps, respectively. This is to avoid having financial burden especially on uncertainties and unexpected situations. “If we are trying to achieve financial freedom, kailangan din nating maging independent and magkaroon ng capabilities to any uncertainties,” according to her. “Kasi usually, ‘pag walang protection, minsan ang nangyayari eh nagiging malaki ang impact sa financial stability nila (Filipinos)”, Engr. Dela Pena explained. The age of 20 is a pivotal age, and also an ideal age to begin investing, Engr. Dela Pena emphasize why so. She said that investing as the last step in achieving financial freedom, gives opportunity for exponential growth and gives protection from inflation. In investing, people who invest can enjoy the compounding interest and magic of securing money in right investment. “Kailangan n’yo rin tandaan na as much as possible, you have to invest in yourself. Kailangan natin magkaroon ng growth, personal growth para maachieve ‘yun financial freedom”, she added. According to her, the key to achieve financial freedom is to have a growth mindset, positive mindset and self-awareness this can be achieved through actions, sacrifices, and investing to yourself. Life is a journey, as well as having a financial freedom. Managing finances for the first time can be overwhelming— as well as earning money. But making right moves in 20’s can save you from years of frustration and also an essential for long-term success.

Kalimitan kasi satin halimbawa kapag may mga kailangan tayong farm inputs or farm machines binibili natin abroad.” On the other hand, the pandemic brought the new breed of small farmersthe plantitos and plantitas. Mr. Johnny Sniper, owner of Conquilla Integrated Farm and an organic farming enthusiast shared tips on starting agribusiness and basic gardening. “Kailangan sa pagtatanim, pinaka importante sa pagtatanim is direct to sunlight every morning kase kung sa pagtatanim mo, umaga pa lang wala ng sunlight na naka-direkta saiyong pananim di yan maglalago, di yan maggrow atsaka di yan magpproduce... sa pagtatanim you have to consider yung tinatawag natin na feasibility study. Sa feasibility study mo yung own study, you dont need to start in a big farm. You have to start in a small. Especially sa pagfafarming, you have to start in a little way.”
anong gusto ninyo. Kung for personal consumption, pinaka easy yung pechay. Yung pechay kasi with a span of 2426 days you can harvest that. You can use some plastic bottle, 1.5 [liter bottle] to plant it or you can use bamboo... maaari ka na magtanim ng mga herbs and spices using the small containers. Yung small containers, the most important thing lang sa pagtatanim ng mga herbs and spices kailangan nasa direct sunlight every morning from 6 ‘o clock down to 9 ‘o clock in the morning. Atsaka at the same time, mayaman ang soil na inilagay mo sa herbs na itinanim mo.” The webinar was collectively participated by students, professors and even parents who wanted to have some takeaways as certified plantitos and plantitas.

He added that as an IE student, abilities such as being flexible and proactive to the circumstances helped him to “better lead the IE students.

Industrial engineers look to reduce production costs, improve efficiency, improve the quality of services and products, make sure workers stay safe and healthy, and protect the environment, all while complying with government regulations. To put simply, industrial engineering helped to change our lives to easier lives and it increased the ability to do more work with less effort. TRANS-form: Letting trans take the center stage
I

don’t need to win Miss Universe. I just need to be here. These lines led the path and left a mark during Miss Universe 2018 as Miss Spain Angela Ponce took her historic walk as the first-ever transgender woman to compete in the prestigious competition. And recently, a FilipinoAmerican beauty Kataluna Enriquez won Miss Nevada and is about to conquer Miss USA, which sparked up the conversation as it trended on several social media platforms. Some were grateful, especially the allies and members of the LGBTQIA+ Community for their representation in the global stage, while the latter disagrees. It reflects the domino effect of the progress the world is making in terms
of diversity. In this day and age, we are slowly stepping forward to a more inclusive and accepting society. Allowing transwomen to join gives them the chance to carry not only their names or their countries but the whole community. It gives them the platform to amplify the voices of the abused trans people, knowing how rampant it is nowadays. In 2020, at least 44 transgenders, the majority being Black and Latin, were fatally killed in different violent ways. Sadly, it is said at least because usually, these stories were ignored or misreported, even in our country. And all of the victims were human, who do not deserve to have their lives taken. This number reflects the need for proper
education to walk towards justice and equality for transgender people. These people have fought a long time and took decades of struggle fighting for trans visibility. Belonging to a community suffering from inequalities, injustices, and discrimination justifies their eagerness to be seen and heard. If pageants such as Miss Universe will give them a platform to speak their voice and fight for what they are passionate about, especially trans and LGBTQ rights, there is nothing wrong with hearing their stories and allowing them to do so. It is a leap towards creating opportunities and breaking stereotypes and barriers for LGBTQIA+ people. They also need empowerment to realize their ambition and be a catalyst for future success. They deserve a spot not only in beauty pageants but also in our acceptance, because transwomen are women. And they are not just women… they have fought all their life to be one.

ental health problems are invisible suffering. It’s happening even when we’re able to physically see each other, then how about now that we are merely seeing their smiling profile. Mental disorder is an everyday battle for those who are struggling with their mental health that will sooner deteriorate, ended with the resolve that death is the only way to escape the pain. Yet most are still justifying that it isn’t as serious as physical illness. The experts have one thing to say, “No one is spared.” As the pandemic drags on in the country, in a 2021 figures by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), suicide cases rose by 25.7% in 2020 compared to the previous year. The country is still struggling to reopen the economy due to its failed pandemic response and along with that, the cases of deaths due to self-harm also increased The government urged religious groups and spiritual leaders to lend a hand in counselling and providing guidance to their followers to reduce their anxiety and prevent them from “self-destruction” during this pandemic. Well in fact, somehow these religious groups also contributed to the stigma against mental illnesses that those who commit suicide are being sent to hell making most of us afraid to talk about this issue. Each of us plays an important role in ensuring mental wellness aside from religious groups; our family, teachers, the government and the youth themselves. Parents and teachers should focus on preventive efforts by being equipped with knowledge of mental health to avoid a full-blown mental disorder among the youth. And for the government, what we need to ease our anxiety and prevent ourselves from “self-destruction” is a solid response for this pandemic- free mass
OPINION testing, social programs, unemployment insurance, subsidies for the poor and accessible programs dealing with mental illness. We need hope. To my fellow youth, act now before it’s too late. Avoid just taking an action when someone had already overdosed himself, hung himself, slit their wrist and bathed himself with blood. When people suffering sees that you are ready to help, they won’t hesitate to seek aid. Mental health is not a taboo topic that should be fought alone and discussed in whispers. It is a conversation worth a solution. To this stigma that a dramatic Facebook post of someone seems to be a laughable thing, be sensitive enough. To this stigma that being depressed signifies lack of faith to God, pray for them. To this stigma that being with a depressed person seems to be inheritable, empathize. To this stigma that a happy person will never harm himself, please see through them. It is hard to battle an invisible disease if you won’t look through and beyond what you merely see. Let’s not wait for the time when their invisible suffering will turn to be a physical pain before sympathizing. Talk to them and listen up. In this online world, looking out for your friend is just one click away. You never know, you might save a life.

Money is Evil “M
By Kriz Louraine Samillano

oney is the root of all evil and it makes the world go round.” This article absolutely agrees with that statement. I believe that we should start by understanding the fact that money is essential in people’s lives, no matter how much we deny it or change its concept. It will always be important for us to survive to this thing we called life. I feel this way for two main reasons. First, when we define evil, it is profoundly immoral and wicked. And when wicked is present, bad things can occur and injustice always follow. When money is perverted to use in aspects of sinful and being immoral, it uprooted to be in a form of bad doings that makes it evil. The fact that people who has power sometimes creates more money is responsible, example for the argument that money is evil. And as we know that “more” is always too much, greediness and all forms of insecurity, rival, richness can happen on the way. Second reason, money is evil in a way that it has value. When things has a value, people are more concerned about it. The focus and the temptation will always be there until people do something about it, especially in getting it. For example, a person who earns standard minimum salary will demand for a higher pay, the CEO who has billions of money will pursue project that produce trillions afterwards, the hungry and poor people will strive to survive, and money is the key to it. Although aiming for more is not a bad thing but when out of control, it can be destructive and can cause immorality afterwards. The needs for more money will prolong and it never ends, until people will do bad things to get it and make it happen. Money is evil because it moves people. It is very highly that people treat it as a king, something that can’t live without. Something worth risking everything for, and in this world that’s pure of survival and less of living, money becomes life. However, when there’s a life, there’s a good and bad and normally, what’s right is always set aside, evil always wins. —money is power.

The Mystery of Accomplishment
The SDU Heads for Academic Year 2019-2020
By Micah Bernarte and Nadine Angeli Peñaverde
Neill Jack Realingo Head, IExtension A.Y. 2019-2020
B IEshikawa 15 Case Study Competition is the yearly contest from the various schools and colleges held on January 23, 2021. This year, Group Agsikapin won the title of the National Level in the Yearly IEshikawa 15 Case study Competition! In the skirmish of unfathomable thoughts against large colleges from one side of the country to the other, the IE of Bulacan State College indeed demonstrates their greatness, and the Group Agsikapin: Rhea Mae Pagayon, Chabelita Panao, Spear Joseph Pascual, and Marecia Louise Prez won being champions. Almost two months of competition, the finish line is unperceived. Every day is full of uncertainties, doubts, and fear. Third week of November 202 was when it all began, one month later, the case study problem was given to them. It is an intense fight with confidence and determination they prepared and - invested - more effort. Addressing Industrial Engineering of BulSU felt so supernatural and overpowering however the tension built simultaneously. Assurance exceeded the pressing factor, in any case.
eing a member and leader of IE Extension Unit (IExtension) is enjoyable but also requires a lot of efforts and responsibilities. It taught me to manage my time, it also developed my personality to be more confident because of meeting and talking to different individuals. I also learned to apply my Industrial Engineering knowledge in real life situations, either community or company-based projects.
“This community service or volunteerism, gives me and also the members of this unit to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as to provide a service to those who need it most.”
Lastly, it gives me a memorable experience because of different activities and projects wherein I bond with my co-students and professors.
Catastrophe. The way to progress has never been simpler. As January 15, 2021 approached, they held their breath – hoping their name would be called as one of the Top 5 Teams to enter the Final Round. And they saw their name, Agsikapin, flashed in their phone screens, and made it to the Final Round. One final step and their determination and perseverance to win home the bacon is beyond doubt. They were eager to win and needed to leave behind the motivation to everyone who had a fantasy to be effective all alone. They kept on continuing to lock in and emptied everything into long periods of hardship preparation. There is no space for fatigue, just for upgrades that need to challenge their cutoff points. The ability to compose is rarely enough. You ought to have a bold heart, psyche, and soul to finish the components of your group as a magnum opus. Until January 24, 2021 came, where sweats became tears, breakdowns became breakthroughs, and fear become confidence, they won as champions, and this is not where everything stops – they would not like to be self-satisfied but in this year, they assembled all the strength and immovable force of inspiration that this time they made it to the title. Our life is an unwritten book. Expect plot twists, character changes, and undiscovered events and setting. But as they make it bit by bit, they ought to be the star of their own story. As they dare to read and critique all aspects of the pages, it is the failure, tortures, troublesome works, and constancies and inconstancies that make their story worth telling. With those, it is evident that they are just human like you. They are making mistakes like you; they have failures like you, but what made them where they are right now is the dedication and hard work they put in every way. Regardless of how much perspiration, blood, and tears that shed, I am more than able to learn and be the bull horn of my kindred youth. Winning is only a fantasy for me and it worked out as expected. You should not be a remarkable achievement from the start. Just like them, winning will also work for you.

He helped us a lot, not just in our dance routine but explaining us how both dancing and real life problems are related. He would explain how to use the things we do in our routine and apply it in our daily lives. Like for example when I was a new member of this group I had no one else to talk to. But then it taught me how to cope and adapt in different types of people around me. Our drills helped us to be whole within ourselves, we got out from our comfort zone and become who we are today. They saw greatness in me for being a good leader so they voted me to be the president of the IE Dance troupe. It is an advantage if we are equipped with the knowledge of all the basic IE tools and technical skills which will help us in making effective and efficient decisions. It is also our advantage that we can fit and work in any kind of industry and sector since we have wide range of career opportunities.

We’re be able to conquer this school year despite of the pandemic, and we are able to meet my classmates and prof, though it’s virtually.”
FreshIEs’ thoughts on virtual class As the Industrial Engineering Department welcomed its new addition of students last October 2020, let us know how prepared they are emotionally and mentally for this new normal set up. Few students from three sections of the IE freshmen were asked about their thoughts as they entered the new chapter of their lives virtually due to the pandemic.

ight and day, Rain or shine. He flies across the endless horizon without taking a rest. As the atmosphere grew heavier, his wings began to weaken; the electricity of fatigue flowed through his veins. He was paralyzed as thirst crawled in his throat. He started to count his breath, knowing that minutes later he would run out of it. “They said education, could
be the only greatest treasure you could have, that nobody could ever steal. Yet, like any other golden treasures sought by treasure hunters, education too, is difficult to acquire.”
The former administration believed that progress through education would never be enough if we, Filipinos, would just stick with Basic Education Curriculum (BEC), with six years in elementary and four years in high school. As most of the young Filipinos lately, were being deprived by their own fate in continuing
At ang lahat ay namuhay nang masaya at masagana. their schooling in tertiary level, the government had linked a back-up plan in order to give millions of Filipino students a quality education. The answer? K to 12. With additional one year in elementary level (kinder) and two years in high school (Senior High School), as experts and the Aquino regime announced on public that K-12 could help more Filipino, youths in coping with the future, people had doubted it as they believed that it is just another cause of hole pockets on parents. Even though at this moment, there still grunts and complaints from a number of Filipino parents and individuals alone, the present administration has supported the current state of Philippine Education. Life is not about living. Often times it is about surviving. There are millions of Filipino students who like a flightless, feeble eagle searching for a single drop of water and a slice of raw food to ease away the cravings inside; thirsty of knowledge, hungry of wisdom. Night and day. Rain or shine. He flies across the endless horizon without taking a rest. His wings grew tired and thirst, hunger and fatigue crawled into to break his system.
Yet, like an eagle, they would take revenge and regenerate through the passing of time. And Filipino juveniles longing for quality education would no longer starve to death as they would fly high across the endless horizon with full strength. Let us hath the hunger games to stop.

even Colors – each showing different symbolism and different characteristics yet if combined together, creates something wonderful. Every color has its own unique beauty, and we humans are exactly just like these colors – different yet beautiful in our own way. It is magic. The vibrancy and life of the color of red. The creativity and healing of the color orange. The wisdom and light of the color yellow. The nature of the color green. The divinity of the color blue. The infinity of the color indigo. And the spirituality of the color violet. These seven colors are the colors of a rainbow. And somehow, these colors also represent the diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer, (LGBTQ) community since the year 1978. And he is, somehow… a part of it. Yet, if you take time to take a good look, these colors in wings are slowly turning grey.
“The LGBTQ community has been alive for decades already, yet up until now they are still fighting for the human rights, they claim to deserve but are not given to them.”
Many people are wholeheartedly accepted the LGBTQ family in our society, even supporting defending and trusting them, this means the world to them. To see people who are not even part of their own community who fight for and with them is everything. After many years of hiding, of keeping themselves a secret because of fear of rejection, finally. They are free. But to be accepted and respected by society is one thing for them, and to be allowed to spiritual marriage is another. Perhaps, they are so close to being truly free. They just can’t help but flinch at people who treat them like they are nothing but dirty, left over trash. The looks of disgust and the shaming from people’s eyes is strongly visible. No, they despise us. And my heart breaks a little bit every time. The moment they open their mouths at them, throwing such awful words and insults, it made them feel like they’re slowly being stabbed in the guts and they push it even harder and deeper as people see them bleeding. All they want now is for us to give their right to be married with the one they truly love, the one who made them feel who they are again and not alone in this messed up world.

“Don’t Sleep!” By Hiraya
Listening The clock ticks at 12am The sound of the keyboard is still clear, trying to get busy Everyone is silently and peacefully breathing Yet the loudest sound is her heartbeat Whispering Her mind whispers to shut down The bed whispered for her to lie down Yet she knows, the whisper of the ghost in the moonlight Is keeping her awake Mystery She’s afraid to close her eyes She doesn’t want to embrace her bed Sleeping is not a comfort anymore Staying awake will keep her safe Touch Time stops at 3am “Is he deeply asleep?” “Will I be able to sleep peacefully now?” She’s tired, yet afraid to feel the touch of those rude hands

Overdose by Pasistang Ipis
Swallow all the pain, Swallow all the hatred, Swallow all the anger, Swallow all the frustrations, Swallow all your emotions. Push it in you. Deep in your soul. Push it in your darkest part of mind. Where memories are gone, Emotions are numb, And the heart stops still. Where light becomes dim, And hope becomes lost.
Let it out. Bubbles of your agony, Bubbles of shouts deep hidden, Bubbles of your unsaid feelings, Bubbles of your gasps, Bubbles of the cries of unheard helps, Bubbles of your exasperations and desperations. Waiting to pop, Waiting to explode. Now you are free, From all your troubles, From all your horrors, From what scares you, From what hurts you, From all that is left unsaid, From your body. As your soul escape, In your overdose death.
HALINGHING NI MAWI (inspired by marawi victims ) By Louraine

Quota #23: I am a Prisoner JailGuarded by a Job By Makatang Bulakenyo
The year was 2019 when I have decided to go behind bars… My goal in life was to be free: One (1) month after the march on way to the 64th commencement exercises, my body was composed of pounds per square inch, my brain would like to press the button of self-destruct on my heart, there are a lot of whispers from the outer left to the inner right of the street, I was torn in between the roads like a stray cat waiting for a shelter or a near-missed death, I have nine (9) lives anyway… As I continued walking on the straight white broken lines at the middle of the roadway, I accidentally bumped into a police mobile. Instead of asking the nearby people on who my owner was, or direct me rather into the nearest animal shelter welfare, they grabbed me on my nape to felt the comfort and so I did rely to what will happen next…
Aurora Borealis
I woke up lying on a hard bed, there are a lot of clamors coming from different angles of a four equal sided room. This small space was receiving a microscopic amount of light; it was also surrounded by cold rusty railings. I sat for a while then asked the mortals within reach… I asked if the accommodation was free, if we’re going to pay for the food or the utilities; he then answered “No!”. I burst into tears, this is what I want! This was my target in the first place; my goal was to be free.

Staring at the night sky, stars are visible, twinkling so bright and suddenly, an epiphany hits your mind. The universe is infinite it makes us small but, we have the brightest light.
Instead of filing for a not guilty plea, I surrendered to them and admitted all the accusations against me; I signed the contract. I am the protagonist of my own story but decided to be the antagonist among all. As the day goes by, we were tasked to do such chores we’re not used to; and so then I’ve realized that we are paying the free accommodations with our own sweat and blood.
Closing your eyes as you feel the breeze touches your skin, bothered by something you’ve realized before, memories are flashing vividly as you try to picture each thoughts of “what could’ve been” and “what if”.
I just wanted to be free at first, I went down the mountain to search for the future in the city. I have a curly hair, my complexion was black, and my nose was flat. I am just a simple civilian trying hard to pave a way changing my community at least competitive with other ethnic groups.
But in that very moment, you decided to love yourself, and an Aurora Borealis is seen— a phenomenon that is truly magnificent.
I was drugged and mandated to just follow all their instructions, there are a lot of mislead ideas on what really happened that day. It was true that I was walking on the road when some by-standers tried to inject me a liquid solution and put something in my pocket and in my bag. I passed out for a while and tried to crawl, that was the time when I bumped into a police mobile. They immediately summoned me to the authority without further investigations. Little did I know that it was their job, their way of living in free was to imprisoned innocent people. They have this so called “quota”, to reach the top, to garner fame, and to have a name. I am one of the countless individuals dying inside the jail due to inhumane job of many.
