Im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Lovis Corinth. Das Leben – ein Fest“ präsentiert das Belvedere vom 18. Juni bis 3. Oktober 2021 zahlreiche Ölgemälde aus unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Phasen des deutschen Malers Lovis Corinth (1858– 1925).
With the exhibition “Lovis Corinth. Life – A Celebration”, from 18 June to 3 October 2021, the Belvedere presents a large number of oil paintings from various artistic phases of the German painter Lovis Corinth (1858–1925).
Lovis Corinth stammte aus Ostpreußen und erhielt seine Ausbildung in München. Corinth arbeitete sich, neben weiteren Persönlichkeiten wie Walter Leistikow und Max Liebermann, zu einem der gefragtesten Maler der Berliner Secession empor. In seinen Werken lassen sich unterschiedlichste Stilelemente vom 19. Jahrhundert bis in die Moderne entdecken. Sein Schaffensweg führte vom Realismus über den Impressionismus zum Expressionismus. Corinths Malerei zeugt von expressiver Leidenschaft sowie von der meisterhaften Beherrschung künstlerischer Techniken. Die Ausstellung im Belvedere bietet dem Stilwandel in Leben und Werk des deutschen Malers eine besondere Plattform: von früh thematisierter Erotik, die sich im Lauf der Zeit hin zum Mutter-Kind-Thema wandelt, über die Motive der Familie und des eigenen Alterungsprozesses, kulminierend in den Landschaftsbildern vom Walchensee.
Born in East Prussia, Lovis Corinth was trained in Munich and became one of the most prominent painters of the Berlin Secession. In his works one can discover a wide variety of stylistic elements from the 19th century to the modern age. His creative path led from Realism via Impressionism to Expressionism. Corinth‘s painting bears witness to expressive passion as well as to a masterly display of artistic techniques. The exhibition at the Belvedere offers a special platform for the stylistic changes in the life and work of the German painter: from early eroticism, which changes over time towards the mother-child theme, to the motifs of the family and his own ageing process, culminating in the landscape paintings of Walchensee.
