Walmart invests in drone delivery provider Walmart announced its investment in DroneUp, a US-based drone services provider, to develop a scalable last-mile delivery solution. Last year,Walmart had partnered with DroneUp to launch trial deliveries of at-home COVID-19 self-collection kits. The trial demonstrated that Walmart could offer deliveries in minutes versus hours. DroneUp operates an on-demand drone delivery network that matches its database of more than 10,000 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified pilots to missions nationwide. “Walmart already has a significant part of the infrastructure in place – 4,700 stores stocked with more than 100,000 of the most-purchased items, located within 10 miles of 90 per cent of the US population. This makes us uniquely positioned to execute drone deliveries, which is why our investment in DroneUp won’t just apply to the skies but also the ground. In the coming months we’ll be beginning our first operation at a store in Bentonville, Arkansas,” the release said. Earlier this year, Walmart had announced a similar investment in Cruise, an all-electric autonomous vehicle company.
Unisync Corp reported a 24 per cent sales decline to $21.1 million (all figures Canadian dollars) in its second quarter (Q2) FY21 ended on March 31, 2021, compared to sales of $27.7 million in same period of previous fiscal. The company incurred a net loss of $0.78 million. In its outlook, the company stated that the Covid vaccination across the US and a rise in domestic travel will cause a strong increase in uniform sales to its airline accounts as well Emblemtek_Imprint_May-June-2021-1.pdf 1 04-16-2021 as other accounts in the transportation and hospitality sectors.
