DEAR VISITORS OF AVANT PREMIÈRE 2017 We are delighted to be a partner of this important international event presenting to you the latest, 8K-technology has to offer! NHK started the test satellite broadcasting of 4K and 8K Super Hi-Vision UHDTV in August 2016. 8K offers a resolution 16 times higher than HD and has a 22.2 multichannel sound system, which produces a luxurious, three-dimensional sound. The combination conveys a greatly heightened sense of presence and reality. We are particularly proud that 8K and its spatial sound system are the unrivaled technology for broadcasting musical content. We have been providing public viewings of 8K – including live concerts – in Japan, the EU, and other countries. They have proven very popular and have received high praise from music fans. For this year’s Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin, our team has prepared a variety of content, including music. We hope you will enjoy it and gratefully welcome your impressions and views. We would be delighted to produce 8K content together with all of you in the future. Yukinori Kida Executive Director, Chief of Broadcasting, NHK

‘Ravel by Cherkaoui & Verbruggen’ Ravel remains a source of inspiration for any choreographer. Choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and rising talent Jeroen Verbruggen take their vision of Ravel’s music to the stage with the Ballet Vlaanderen. Verbruggen has drawn his inspiration from Ravel’s Pavane pour une Infante défunte and from Ma Mère l’Oye. Cherkaoui also translates Ravel into dance, opting for the colourful Pictures at an Exhibition, originally composed by Modest Mussorgsky, which was later orchestrated by Ravel to become the most widely performed orchestration of this work.

MARKET SCREENINGS THE FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS STORY Presented by 3B-Produktion Florence Foster Jenkins is known as “the worst singer of all times”. And yet she had a successful stage career in New York in the 1920s, seemingly suspending all the rules of art. The film examines the enigma and the woman behind this aural assault on the public. Taking on the challenge of portraying the flamboyant “queen of dissonance” is opera superstar Joyce DiDonato making her cinematic debut. This casting decision enables the audience to experience two contrasting musical worlds: the melodious music Florence Foster Jenkins claimed to make, and the dissonant reality that her listeners were subjected to. 13 FEB 14:30 - 15:30 Hotel Scandic, Screening Hall

Hammadi being the only one to follow Kaydara’s advice based on the laws of nature and experience of the elders will achieve the ultimate happiness and power without desiring or seeking for it himself. 13 FEB 15:45 - 16:45 Hotel Scandic, Screening Hall
INGMAR BERGMAN THROUGH THE CHOREOGRAPHER‘S EYE Presented by Nordisk Drama & Dokumentär AB As a film director, Ingmar Bergman was also a choreographer. Throughout his films one can sense his refined choreographed language. The renowned Swedish choreographers Alexander Ekman, Pär Isberg, Pontus Lidberg and Joakim Stephenson, with principal dancers from the Royal Swedish Ballet, interpret Ingmar Bergman through four unique dance performances reflecting on human relations and intense feelings. The dances are linked together with images of the epic natural beauty of Farö and Bergman’s poetic home Hammars, with the voice of Ingmar Bergman revealing his thoughts about movements and music.

His creative rendition of the all-new stage production the band delivered at Paris Bercy in March 2012 takes the art form to a whole new level. 14 FEB 16:00 - 18:00 Hotel Scandic, Screening Hall
