DEAR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS Looking back at the year 2019, we feel especially proud as we present the newly elected IMZ Board for 2020-22, which consists of representatives of internationally renowned broadcasters, producers, distributors and educational institutions. The period of the previous IMZ Board has come to an end and we express our gratitude to all its members for their dedicated work and give a warm welcome to those new on board. The IMZ year started with a remarkably successful edition of Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin: 600 international representatives of the performing arts + media industry gathered in Berlin to see exclusive previews to the latest 550 music + dance films, learn about the latest industry developments and expand their professional networks. Furthermore, the 15th edition of dancescreen took place in cooperation with TANZRAUSCHEN Festival Wuppertal, presenting the film competition as part of a extraordinary dance film festival. For the dancescreen 2019 Pitching Session, we partnered up with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch to foster coproductions by creating networking opportunities for emerging + established filmmakers. In addition, the International Emmy® Awards Semi Final Round of Judging in Vienna continues

to be an indispensable part of our commitment to fostering excellence in quality TV programming. We also pitched up our tent at this year’s Golden Prague International Television Festival, where we hosted an IMZ Academy Session and partnered up with the EBU to praise extraordinary personalities in the cultural film sector, this time honouring Anca-Monica Pandelea and Gabrielle Babin Gugenheim with the EBU-IMZ Lifetime Achievement Award. 2019 has been an exceptionally fruitful year for the IMZ Academy, with two IMZ Academies and four IMZ Academy Sessions exploring the latest developments in the music + dance film industry and contributing to its professionalisation in the digital age. In 2019 we also strengthened our bond with the European Union to ensure a thriving future for the European music sector. As a global network, the IMZ carries the aim to build transnational bridges at its core and thanks the European Commission for strongly supporting the purpose of the IMZ! On behalf of the IMZ Board and our dedicated IMZ Team in Vienna, we hope to connect with you during one of our many activities in 2020 and look forward to supporting and celebrating the performing arts media industry for many years to come!

For the first time in 2019 the IMZ, the global network for the performing arts film industry, joined forces with Sunny Side of the Doc, the internationally renowned market place for documentary + factual content. SUNNY SIDE OF THE DOC + IMZ PITCHING SESSION AT AVANT PREMIÈRE With the aim of shining a spotlight on performing arts documentaries, we organised a joint pitching session at Avant Première 2019. The IMZ Academy is one of various initiatives to promote the professionalisation of the music + dance film sector. The IMZ Academy is a master class series primarily designed to equip professionals with necessary skills for the performing arts + audiovisual media industry. Since the IMZ Academy is committed to delivering handson experiences and applicable input, expert speakers share their professional insights using real-life examples and specific challenges. Moreover, the IMZ Academy enables peer learning and mutual exchange with other participants from all over the world. A further goal is to empower the cultural sector with interdisciplinary collaborations and sustaina26

ble international networks. With team activities and social gatherings in small groups, the IMZ Academy specifically serves as a platform for connecting, networking and exchanging knowledge. While an IMZ Academy is an immersive, interactive workshop usually with a duration of two days, an IMZ Academy Session is a shorter training unit in cooperation with another institution or event in order to foster synergies + connectivity. The year 2019 was exceptionally successful for the initiative, with two IMZ Academies and four IMZ Academy Sessions all across Europe.
