ACCENTUS MUSIC New DVD/Blu-ray Releases Claudio Abbado – Lucerne Festival 2013: The Last Video Recording With his unique “mysterious seductive power and legendary elegance” (Le Monde), Claudio Abbado, for the last time, opened the Lucerne Festival in the summer of 2013 – only a few months later, the world had to bid farewell to a monumental artist, great conductor and orchestra founder. This record, released on DVD/Blu-ray in May/June at ACCENTUS Music, is the last audio-visual documentation of his work. Once again, it captures the extraordinary atmosphere of vibrant emotionality that always emerged when Abbado created music with his “orchestra of friends”.

Lasso, Gabrieli, Gesualdo, Josquin a.o., recorded in Palladio’s splendid Renaissance Villa Godi. Performers include Hille Perl (viola da gamba), the American lutenist Lee Santana and percussionist Michael Metzler.

Bruckner's 7th Symphony With the release of Bruckner’s 7th Symphony in April, ACCENTUS Music presents the fourth part of its cycle Bruckner – The Mature Symphonies with Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin. The Guardian calls Daniel Barenboim’s London interpretation "Tremendous … Barenboim and the Staatskapelle seem to have this work in their systems, and the overall impression was of music unfolding organically at its own pace rather than of a work being self-consciously interpreted or led."

Riccardo Chailly & Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra: Mahler 5 Continuing the award-winning Leipzig Mahler cycle… – available from May/June. Bonus: Riccardo Chailly on his interpretation of Mahler’s 5th Symphony.

From the current Met-season: Massenet's sublime adaptation of Goethe's revolutionary and tragic romance Werther. Jonas Kaufmann sings the title role of the tortured poet with the “dark, resonant timbre of his tenor that gives him weight; its swordlike directness makes him unstoppable. Every moment has the exact vocal color it needs” (The Wall Street Journal). Richard Eyre, whose hit production of Bizet’s Carmen premiered at the Met in 2010, returns to direct the first new Met production of Werther in more than forty years. “Mr. Eyre’s production, while essentially traditional, uses video imaginatively and has touches of modern imagery. Mr. Eyre deserves unreserved credit for the detailed and involving performances he draws from his cast” (The New York Times). French mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch, one of the world’s leading interpreters of Charlotte, makes her Met debut as the object of Werther’s unrequited love, in a cast that also includes Lisette Oropesa as Sophie, Serbian bass David Bižić in his Met
