REVIEW OF IMZ SESSION THE FUTURE IS AUDIO-VISUAL! AT IAMA MEDIA DAY 10 April 2014 | Milton Court, London (UK) On the first day of the 24th International IAMA Conference, held in London from 10 – 12 April 2014, an interested crowd of international artists’ managers joined Hazel Wright, (Hazel Wright Media Ltd.), Franz Patay (IMZ Secretary General) and Bernhard Fleischer (Bernhard Fleischer Moving Images) at the IMZ session The Future Is Audio-Visual!. Franz Patay opened the session by introducing the IMZ and its network activities and gave a brief abstract of how the market for audio-visual music and dance film productions and then later on also its related services and products such as e.g. live-streaming online and into cinemas have developed and changed within the last decades.
Following his contribution, Hazel Wright and Bernhard Fleischer gave insight into their daily working life as distributors and producers tackling issues such as - How, and by whom, are programmes being commissioned, financed and made? - What’s in for the artists or performing arts companies depending on their fame? - Why do the producers/distributors need full clearance to move the programmes around freely to reach break even? At the conclusion of the presentation, the invitation to ask questions was embraced by many members of the audience. The IMZ would like to thank Hazel
Wright and Bernhard Fleischer for their valuable time and contribution to this IMZ event! The International Artist Managers' Association (IAMA) is the only worldwide association for classical music artist managements. It is dedicated to serving all its members' needs including Affiliate and Group members and it strives to raise professional standards in the business of music. www.iamaworld.com

"In his absence he could not have felt more present" (The Guardian): On 6 April, within the LUCERNE FESTIVAL at Easter, the musicians of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA honored Claudio Abbado with a deeply moving memorial concert, which ACCENTUS Music was filming in coproduction with SRF and ARTE. During the first movement of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony the conductor’s stand remained empty – it was this symphony that Abbado had conducted at his last concert. Bruno Ganz, a close friend of the great maestro, recited Hölderlin’s Brot und Wein, and Andris Nelsons conducted Berg’s Violin Concerto To the Memory of an Angel, played by Isabelle Faust, and the finale from Mahler’s Symphony No 3, which the composer originally planned to entitle What love tells me.

CLASART CLASSIC Presents Eugene Onegin Starring Anna Netrebko Clasart Classic presents one of the highlights of the current Met live in HD series: English director Deborah Warner’s new production of Tchaikovsky’s romantic tragedy Eugene Onegin, conducted by Valery Gergiev who “knows the Tchaikovsky style like few other conductors” (The New York Times). Anna Netrebko opens her third consecutive Met season as Tatiana, the naïve heroine from Pushkin’s classic novel, reinforcing the characters pathos “with limpid tone, expressive point, dynamic sensitivity and unexpected restraint” (Financial Times). Mariusz Kwiecien portrays the self-confident title character, in a much-admired interpretation he has sung in many of the world’s leading opera houses, and Piotr Beczala reprises his acclaimed performance as Onegin’s friend-turned-rival, Lenski. Reviewing Warner’s production, the Sunday Telegraph praised its “mixture of haunting visual and emotional impact: cutting straight to the heart of the work, [Warner] shows how Onegin is

EUROARTS EUROPAKONZERT – Back In Berlin
© Holger Kettner
In May, the world is looking at Europe and in particular to Germany, not only because of the European elections, but also because the EUROPAKONZERT once again took place in Berlin. In celebration of the founding in 1882 and to celebrate the common heritage of the Old World, the programme of this year’s EUROPAKONZERT has an international flavour: Otto Nicolai’s Singspiel The Merry Wives of Windsor, which received its premiere in Berlin in 1849, is based on William Shakespeare’s comedy of the same name, and its lively overture has long since secured a place on the concert stage. Also inspired by a Shakespearean comedy hero is Edward Elgar’s symphonic study Falstaff. We then turn from comedy to the tragic twists of fate: The Fifth Symphony of Piotr I. Tchaikovsky is characterised by a sombre main theme that for the Russian composer symbolises “a complete resignation before fate, which is the same as the inscrutable predestination of fate”. The concert is conducted by a maestro who has been associated with the Berliner Philharmoniker for 50 years now: Daniel Barenboim. Produced by EuroArts Music & rbb
