ACTIVITY REPORT 2014
DEAR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS THE YEAR 2014 WAS A VERY IMPORTANT, EXCITING AND SUCCESSFUL ONE FOR THE IMZ – INTERNATIONAL MUSIC + MEDIA CENTRE:
We have founded our own and internationally unique trade fair for performing arts films, the Avant Première Music + Media Market in Berlin. Thanks to all dedicated IMZ members and friends who have contributed to this event it was a huge success, already in its first edition! We had the opportunity to welcome more than 320 participants from all over the world, started a cooperation with EFM/ Berlinale and thereby strengthened the position of both performing arts films in the international film industry and the IMZ itself! For successfully implementing joint projects and events such as the video library & special lecture at Classical:NEXT, the International Emmy® Awards Semi-Final Judging, a special IMZ session at the IAMA Media Day, open air made-to-measure music film festivals for the general public in Vienna, Špilberk, Yekaterinburg and Curitiba, industry film screenings and the 2nd edition of the IMZ Academy at ITF Golden Prague Festival, the IMZ World Music Film Screenings at WOMEX and many more – it takes trustworthy and valuable cooperation partners, to whom we owe a dept of gratitude, our sincere thanks for having once again made an important contribution to promoting and fostering the cause of the IMZ. If not for their support as well as the support of all our IMZ members the IMZ could not look back on such a successful year that has led us into a new era. Therefore, on behalf of the IMZ board members and our hard-working IMZ team in Vienna: Thank you for another wonderful year! We are now looking forward to seeing you at the 2nd and larger edition of Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin 2015 and at one or the other interesting IMZ event in the upcoming year! Under the guidance of Maison de la Danse six partners from all over Europe converged in 2013 to join forces in an experimental project. Their focus: the preservation of dance as a cultural heritage through audio-visual products. As one of the organisers, the IMZ supports the project by knowledge transfer and a large network to support the dissemination of the project’s achievements. European memory of dance through video The overall goal of EVDH is to structure a European memory of dance through video and to transmit this heritage to younger generations, considering its political, economic, technical, legal and educational dimensions. Following this goal, the Workshop on Video Dance invited young professionals from 26 – 31 May 2014 to Madrid. Hosted by the co-organising Instituto Universitario de Danza Alicia Alonso at the Rey Juan Carlos University, 24 selected students in dance audio-visual media from all over Europe trained with experts in choreography, directing, producing, editing and sound design on the specific techniques for a perfect capture of dance and movement on video.
Aiming at a better visibility and circulation of video dance in Europe, EVDH assembles videos on the central platform Numeridanse, the free online dance video library. The videos from the EVDH workshops can be found in the special EVDH collection on www.numeridanse.tv. Raising awareness for the need to preserve digital dance products among professionals, rights holders and policy makers, EVDH organised national workshops in Porto, Portugal on 16 October 2014 and in Warshaw, Poland from 18 – 22 September. A specified tool kit on the Numeridanse website is open to the public and can be used e.g. by educational institutions. www.evdhproject.eu www.numeridanse.tv
