evident, the Film Festival’s crossing over to the realm of pop is enthusiastically received by the various audience groups… And the Film Festival’s 22nd edition is still running… till 2 September 2012. For the first time, one day of the “classical” week is dedicated to popular music gems. Thus we can have it all: Anastacia and Tosca, Carmen and Katie Melua, Bryn Terfel and Elvis Presley, Andrea Bocelli and Benvenuto Cellini, Nutcracker and Scheherazade … There is opera as well as The Phantom of the Opera, Baroque celebrations as well as Pavarotti and friends! Furthermore, in the framework of “50 Jahre Viennale“, the Film Festival is cooperating with Viennale, presenting milestones of concert-film-making from D.A. Pennebaker’s Monterey Pop through the ’68 Comeback Special capturing The King unplugged to Martin Scorseses Shine A Light. Find the full programme here and follow us on Facebook.

N EWSL ET TER IMZ MEMBER NEWS NEW PRODUCTIONS CLASART CLASSIC Celebrating Glenn Gould In autumn 2012, the musical world will be celebrating two anniversaries of the great musician Glenn Gould (1932-1982): the 80th of his birth, and the 30th of his death. Glenn Gould was able to find new depths in overly familiar masterpieces. He knew no technical difficulties. And he was able to make a profound and inexplicable personal connection with the people who listened to him. Gould was also a born showman who vividly reflected what he was feeling about the work he was performing. On the occasion of this double-anniversary, Clasart Classic restored, complying with today’s standards, one of the most exceptional series from its archives: Glenn Gould plays Bach. In 1980 and 1981, pianist Glenn Gould made three video recordings devoted to Johann Sebastian Bach's keyboard music. Whether in conversation with his host, acclaimed French director of musical films Bruno Monsaingeon, or plumbing the depths of Bach's music in performance, Gould offers us, in each and every moment of this trilogy, the fascinating case study of a genius.

IMZ MEMBER NEWS This element of showmanship takes on particular prominence in the trilogy where Gould's relaxed relationship with Monsaingeon bathes the production in a warm and surprisingly humorous atmosphere: Gould's wordplays and unexpected formulations betray a love of language almost as great as his love of music. These three films encapsulate Gould's personal ideas on Bach and his keyboard music,
