Office Manager Birgit Baresch, expecting her second child in April, will again be temporarily leaving the IMZ. She would have loved to meet the many IMZ members coming to Avant Première 2014 MUSIC + MEDIA MARKET BERLIN… “Have a gre-

at time at Avant Première 2014, drink a toast to me and see you again in 2015!” We would like to thank her for her extraordinary organisational talent, her great work and dedication to the IMZ and wish her all the best and lots of luck for the maternity leave! Le Nozze Di Figaro In Beijing: ACCENTUS Music Continues Co-operation With NCPA

Gioacchino Rossini Le Comte Ory

In January 2014, ACCENTUS Music filmed NCPA’s production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, directed by Seville-born José Luis Castro. The Leipzig production company thus continued its successful co-operation with the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. The co-operation was initiated in 2013, when ACCENTUS Music, as the first independent production company, filmed two NCPA productions: Nabucco, starring Plácido Domingo in the title role, followed by an impressive scenic Gala Concert on the occasion of the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth. In March 2014, ACCENTUS Music, in close co-operation with acclaimed feature film director Zhang Yimou, will be filming his production of the original Beijing Opera You and Me.

Claudio Abbado *26 June 1933 †20 January 2014

“With Claudio Abbado we have not only lost one of the most acclaimed musicians of our age, but also a good friend, with whom I worked for over 23 years – what began as a fruitful artistic collaboration developed into a friendship with this exceptional musician. ACCENTUS Music and I are grateful to have been allowed to witness and document Claudio’s outstanding work and some of his finest concert performances over the years, unexpectedly ending with his last two concerts at Lucerne Festival last summer.” Paul Smaczny

Rossini’s spirited play of erotic lightness Le Comte Ory has maintained its success to this day. Lluís Pasqual’s witty and clever production was recorded at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. The dynamic, international young cast is headed by tenor Yijie Shi, Laura Polverelli and María José Moreno. Paolo Carignani conducts with verve and brio. Out now on DVD and Blu-ray. (101649/108063)

CLASART CLASSIC sa? Over this period an extensive archive of beautiful choreography, performed by the finest dancers has accumulated on film and television, resulting in a major dispersion of dance through the media. Featuring Alvin Ailey, Pina Bausch, John Neumeier, Anna Pavlova, Sasha Waltz and others. (101690)

Richard Wagner Götterdämmerung

Götterdämmerung, the final instalment of Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung, is a story of human passions. The strong cast includes Iréne Theorin, Lance Ryan, who continues his radiant portrayal of the tragic hero Siegfried, Mikhail Petrenko, Johannes Martin Kränzle and Waltraud Meier. With this 2013 recording of Götterdämmerung, the musically and visually compelling Scala Ring Cycle by Daniel Barenboim and Guy Cassiers was completed and proved to be one of the highlights of the Richard Wagner bicentenary. (101696/108093)

Clasart Classic To Continue Co-operation With The Cleveland Orchestra And Franz Welser-Möst After the successful recording of the Bruckner cycle, Clasart Classic continues its close collaboration with The Cleveland Orchestra under the baton of its principal conductor Franz Welser-Möst. In the focus of this co-operation is the oeuvre of Johannes Brahms, which is to be presented in its full spectrum: from the violin concerto with Julia Fischer to the two piano concertos, starring acclaimed pianist Yefim Bronfman, and the symphonies. The Cleveland Orchestra’s Brahms cycle just started with the recording of the composer’s Academic Festival Overture, of the violin concerto and of the Symphony No. 4 at Cleveland’s neo-classical gem Severance Hall, the orchestra’s home base. For the recording of Brahms’ violin concerto, Franz Welser-Möst and his orchestra were joined by Julia Fischer, whose “magnificent” performance was hailed by the press: “Between pure tone and forceful, ardent manner, she represented the ideal Brahms protagonist.” (The Plain Dealer).

NEW PRODUCTIONS

As befits its enormous presence on both sides of the Atlantic, The Cleveland Orchestra will be recording the Brahms cycle not only at Severance Hall, but also on guest tours to London’s Royal Albert Hall and to the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, both in September 2014. Clasart Classic is recording the concerts in HD quality and with 5.1 Surround Sound. www.tmg.de

POORHOUSE RIDDLE FILMS UNITEL GMBH INTERNATIO- INC. & CO. KG NAL LTD. The Rolston Sessions

After Music in the Air and Dance on Screen, Reiner Moritz is currently preparing a documentary for Telmondis entitled Roland Petit – The Entertainer. Roland Petit is probably the most successful choreographer of our time. Who else can boast more than 5,000 performances of one of his or her ballets? Roland Petit has achieved this record with his Carmen, dancing the piece together with Zizi Jeanmaire, who became his muse, at least 2,000 times himself. He also discovered Leslie Caron who will tell how she later gave him a helping hand in Hollywood. The one-hour documentary will draw on Telmondis’ large collection of ballets by the choreographer, an earlier biography and a show with the choreographer remembering his creative career. Interviews with dancers, choreographers, critics and foes will for the first time draw a proper picture of a great artist whose vanity did not allow anybody else beside him. As the Hollywood feature film clips will cost an arm and a leg, Poorhouse will be grateful for any presales. Roland Petit – The Entertainer Produced by Telmondis Directed by Reiner E. Moritz Shot in HD Running Time 55 min. Delivery planned for autumn 2014

Riddle Films recently completed the 70-minute Rolston Sessions, captured at The 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The film is comprised of ten performances by the competing quartets in the beautiful Rolston Recital Hall at the Banff Centre, and features interviews with members of each of the quartets, representing eleven different countries. Includes the winners, The Dover Quartet (US), Quatuor Cavatine (FR), The Navara String Quartet (IE/ UK/NL), The Schumann Quartett (DE) and more.

BBC News “At the end the strings faded into the ether as if merging with an ineffable, eternal life force; you could scarcely tell where sound stopped and silence began”... The Independent
