DEAR IMZ MEMBERS AND FRIENDS, We have had an exciting summer! On 2 and 3 July, the international film and TV industry gathered in Vienna for the Semi-Final Judging of the 2014 International Emmy® Awards hosted by the IMZ for the 9th time in a row. From 28 June – 31 August the Film Festival At Wiener Rathausplatz screened first-class operas, classical concerts, ballets, operettas, pop and jazz at an impressive 300m2 screen and enthralled hundreds of thousands of visitors. At the same time in Russia, during 24 June – 13 July, the Vienna Music Film Festival in Yekaterinburg took place, for 5 years now a fixed date in the cultural calendar of the Russian city. The magic setting of Špilberk castle in Czech Republic, set the scene for a buzzing Brno Music Film Festival being part of the 15th edition of the International Music Festival from 18 – 24 August. But not only our cooperation with Music Film Festivals cheered us up. We are proud to make a contribution to provide audiences throughout Europe with access to the history of music and dance on screen. The two IMZ anniversary films Music In The Air and Dance On Screen, produced by Reiner E. Moritz in 2012 and 2013, were well received and bought by renowned TV stations from 17 countries ranging from NRK, YLE, EER, SVT, through ORF, BskyB, FR2, CTV, TVP, RTVS, HRT, RUV, to SBS, SBSStudio, Sky NZ, Classica Japan and ARTV . You rarely see anything like footage dating back to 1896. Music In The Air features the first-ever television images of a regular service by the BBC in 1936. Not only classical music gained media’s attention but also personalities like Herbert von Karajan benefited from the mutual understanding of music and television. Dance On Screen combines impressive archive material of the greatest dancers and choreographers of the 20th century with interviews of outstanding personalities from the contemporary dancing scene. It’s also thanks to the revenue of these excellent documentaries, that the IMZ is able to further and follow more intensively its mission to support music and dance in the audio-visual media. Autumn is stretching out his hands already. We are looking forward to an electrifying International Television Festival Golden Prague, from 5 – 8 October at Archa Theatre, with an IMZ Board Meeting, two IMZ Golden Prague Premières, an IMZ Mini Academy: Sharpen Up Your Showreel! and a closed IMZ Academy Session: What’s The Best Way To Engage With Your Audiences In A Connected World?. And, of course, the wonderful tradition of the IMZ World Music Film Screenings At WOMEX will be continued bringing us to Santiago De Compostela in Spain from 22 – 26 October. In the upcoming moths, you will be fascinated by the re-launch of the IMZ website and the new Avant Première website. The second edition of Avant Première in Berlin 2015 is approaching us as well. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Avant Première 2015, from 10 – 13 February. The Virtual Market, an online matchmaking tool, is just one of the many novelties awaiting you… We hope to see you all at the upcoming events. Thank you for your continuing support, stay connected… With best wishes and regards,
Franz Patay Secretary General

Music in the Air A Film by Reiner E. Moritz to celebrate 50 years of IMZ – International Music + Media Centre
Music on television has come in various guises over the last 5O years. It was already part of the programme mix at the very beginning and is still around, more sophisticated than ever, live and event driven and at it’s best reaching millions – at any rate more people than those experiencing music in opera houses, concert halls or other venues. Television has been instrumental in popularizing music, preserving precious moments of music making and helping to create music and performances which would not exist without it.
