Dear Readers
Inside this Month’s
Welcome to the
issue
August issue of In and Around Denham Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to our readers for the lovely feedback over recent months. It’s always good to hear when we’ve got it right (and even when we haven’t), as this really helps us to keep publishing a magazine that you read, use and enjoy. It’s been over eleven years since we first started publishing and whilst some things haven’t changed very much at all, others have changed beyond recognition. Looking back at previous issues, my ramblings were about my daughter Sammy and the challenges of sharing a workspace with a small child, a pink pop up tent and endless viewings of Dora the Explorer and Hannah Montana. My two dogs, Freddie and Pickle featured quite a lot too, with their puppy like escapades and antics. Years later, my world still revolves around the very same child and pets, except during that time we’ve moved to four different homes, the dogs are now of pensionable age (both currently snoring behind me as I work) and this Saturday will be the party celebration for Sammy’s 18th Birthday. A garden party and rain is forecast - I’m off to find that pop up pink tent! Until next month! Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident
2017 08
August is the month that many residents take holidays and the Parish Council takes a break from its regular monthly meeting. Hopefully this will allow us all to catch up on some of those important housekeeping tasks that have been put to one side waiting for us to find the time to tackle them. BUDGET MEETINGS Many residents have approached us personally as their Parish Councillors and others have come into our office, telephoned or emailed the office to complain about the state of Denham and how poor it looks. Many make a comparison to other boroughs that abut us. Most of the complaints are about litter, uncut grass verges where the County are only cutting the edge of the verges, lines of sight at junctions left uncut causing drivers great concern when trying to pull out, weeds that are ugly and out of control because the County Council no longer treat them, continued flooding in some pedestrian areas and the lack of double yellow lines where needed to keep traffic flowing. Whilst we have had some teething problems with our new grass cutting contractors, these are teething problems that are being ironed out, and not due to on-going policy decisions caused, in the main, by lack of money, that will continue making the area look scruffy and unkempt. What are your views on this? Do you want us to spend more money on caring for the area? Would you be willing to pay an extra few pence a week to improve the area? At our 26
last Parish Council meeting we unanimously agreed that we should ask the residents and businesses in Denham to participate in discussions with us prior to our annual budget meetings starting in October. To this end we are trying to identify three dates and locations in September where we can invite you to come along with your views on how you feel about your area and what your priorities are. As we said last month your Parish Councillors are committed to trying to make Denham the ideal place to live and work, but we need your input. What are your views? If you have ideas for making the street where you live or work that little bit better please let us know. This is our Community – TOGETHER WE CAN!! SAVE THE DATES: We are pleased to confirm that the next date for Music on Denham Village Green to which all residents and friends are invited to attend is Sunday 14 August Tracey O’Connor Quartet. Please note the time change by popular requests - This event will run from 2pm - 5pm. Those that have attended previous events have really enjoyed themselves. We hope to see you there.
Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our grateful thanks to In and Around Denham for providing this platform for us

FLEA BE GONE Fleas can be an almost certain nightmare to pet owners. They are easily picked up by cats and dogs and can affect your pet and infest your home. If left untreated this can lead to a flea infestation. For this reason, it is essential that as well as using a treatment on your pet that you also treat the environment. Fleas can survive without a host for many months. Visit your vet for advice on the best products. Clean bedding regularly and vacuum furniture, floors and skirting boards to help destroy fleas at each stage of their lifecycle. Throw away the dustbag from your vacuum after each cleaning.
LOP EARED RABBITS For Kiwi and Berry "Big" is no exaggeration as a description for this pair of giant lop eared rabbits that have come into the homing centre. This pair are looking for a home together as Berry (tan) is actually blind and relies on her sister for help, though she is blind she does gets around extremely well. All rabbits require a spacious hutch and a generous sized run with plenty of room to play, stretch and exercise as well as a healthy and nutritious diet to help them thrive. Not forgetting of course, the all-important love and attention of their human family.
Only give your pet flea treatment that has been recommended for them. Products suitable for one If you have the perfect bunny home to offer our species may not be suitable for another lovely bunnies please get in touch. Still in doubt? Groom your pet with a fine-tooth comb held over a white surface - any fleas or drop- Thank you for your support . We can’t do it withpings will be deposited on the surface. Add a few out you! drops of water and if the droppings turn reddish If you think you can offer one of our animals a brown it's very likely your pet has fleas. loving home then please ring RSPCA Hillingdon A PAIR OF PRECIOUS ANGELS Branch on 01895 833417 or visit our website www.rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk to download Angel (female) and Precious (male) are a pair of an application form beautiful black cats who at only a year and half old have come into our centre through no fault of their We are always grateful own.
