Who gets the house? Health: Coping with Arthritis

10

Well Summer is well and truly over and the garden furniture and barbeque have gone back into retirement for a few months. As a possible second lockdown continues to threaten, I can only imagine it would feel very different to the first one. I really appreciated spending so much time outside in my garden enjoying the beautiful weather. I’m not sure being stuck indoors would be quite the same. Maybe I’ll plan a few indoor projects so that I don’t get tempted into becoming a sofa surfer.

I’ve not been overly inspired to go shopping recently, but I have noticed that they’re filled with Halloween goodies and Christmas decorations, which gives hope of some normality, albeit these celebrations will likely still have restrictions around them. One thing that hasn’t changed is my usual reluctance to put away the flip flops and exchange them for boots, although if the new going out is to actually stay in, then slippers may well be my staple footwear for the coming weeks. I guess there’s always a positive in everything haha! Don’t forget to put your clocks back at 2am on Sunday 25th so you can enjoy that extra hour in bed.

Who gets the house?

This is often a question that family lawyers are asked when couples split. The family home is a special place and central to the divorce and the worries that parties have in sorting out financial matters. What are the options in a divorce settlement? All assets held in joint or sole names must be identified and values determined in order for negotiations to take place and to bring about a solution. There are several options. For example, one spouse could buy the other out and keep the house; the house could be sold and the proceeds divided or one person can remain in the house and the other person defers receiving their share until a certain point in the future. This is more common in cases where there are children to consider. What if I cannot afford to run the home myself? If you cannot meet all the outgoings it may be possible to seek assistance from your spouse as an interim or long term arrangement if they have the income to assist and your outgoings are reasonable. It is important for you to maximise your own income – ensuring you maximise your earning potential and make claims for benefits that you may be entitled to. The house is not in my name but that of my spouse. Do I still have rights? If it is the family home a Court would consider it a matrimonial asset and will look at the circumstances further. If the family home is in the sole 8

name of your spouse you can protect your interest by entering a Notice of Home Rights against the property at the Land Registry to protect your right to occupy and place any buyer on notice of your potential claim. You can also consider freezing Orders to prevent a transfer if that seems likely. If I move out will I lose my rights to the house? No. If matters are so difficult at home that one party needs to move out it will not affect your entitlement to claim on the property. Do I need divorce advice? Seeking advice rather than listening to stories and myths around what happens to assets in the marriage is always advised. Every situation is different and we can help you make informed decisions about your future. Dear Residents, The Ivers Parish Council is responsible for more than 560 lighting columns in residential roads and recreation grounds. In this fourth phase of the programme, a further 105 LED lanterns will be installed, bringing the overall number of replacements to 68% of the total. For each phase of the programme, the number of lanterns to be replaced is in proportion to the number of lighting columns in each of the main settlements. The areas being upgraded this year are as follows: Ashford Road, Cecil Road Coopers Row, Dutton Way Holmsdale Close, Langley Park Road (service rd section) Longstone Road, Lossie Drive Old Slade Lane, Pinewood Road St David’s Close, Syke Ings The Ridings, Trewarden Avenue The lanterns are programmed to switch to a lower level of illumination between 12:00-05:00. This reduces light pollution as well as cutting power consumption. Overall, the LED lanterns have a much lower power consumption than the old units and this has been reflected in large savings on our electricity bills.

richingspark.com Contact : chairman@richingspark.com Tel: 654010 Link Park Thorney Sidings Sallyand Munn We will be writing to the owners of this site to request a meeting about their redevelopment proposal which seems to be shifting somewhat. Thorney Business Park As a precursor to filing a formal detailed planning application the owners of this site have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment to Bucks Council. Reading through this, it would appear that the original idea named “Richings Park Village North has completely changed and in its place is something a lot less desirable. We shall be writing to the owners to request a meeting about this. Other Planning Applications We have submitted an objection in support of a number of residents in Syke Cluan to a development which would alter the street scene adversely. Next Committee Meeting This has been arranged for Tuesday October 20 at 6:30pm using ZOOM video conferencing. If you would like to be an observer or address the committee, please send an email request to us via the link above and you will be sent an invitation and an entry link. Heathrow We have received a positive response to a Freedom of Information request to the CAA regarding the measurement of ground noise being experienced in Richings Park. We are endeavoring to arrange a meeting with the CAA to explore this further having drawn a total blank with the airport. Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, our website also allows for on-line subscription payments. Our current financial year started on April 1st, 2020. Residents Garden and Shopping Precinct If you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops, you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden. Tickets can only be purchased on-line at www.chilternsouthbuckslottery.co.uk
