Dear Readers Welcome to the July issue of

Inside this month’s issue

In and Around Denham I hope you have all remained safe and well during this rather strange and challenging time. I don’t think most of us had anticipated quite such a long lock down period and how it would affect our daily lives. For me personally, having not taken more than one week at a time away from my desk in 14 years, a sudden three month break was quite a shock! However, knowing everyone else out there was also in limbo, I eventually extracted myself from my desk and quickly became accustomed to a life of garden lounging and just enjoying being with my family. I consider myself very lucky on that front, as I know many of you may not have been able to see your families and would have missed them terribly. Things seem to be slowly regaining some normality, although it’s likely we may be living with some restrictions for a good while yet. It’s great to be back publishing the magazines again, even though they’re a little slimmer than usual. I have temporarily taken the Club & Groups pages out until they are able to run properly again. Finally, thank you for the messages of support whilst we’ve been away. I’m always grateful for this and I know our advertisers are hugely grateful for your support too. Let’s keep our local communities thriving! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident,

July 2020

We also approached Martin Bakers Aircraft Company to lease us their sportsground and have now secured agreement, for two football pitches and team changing facilities up to FA standard, all of which they are most generously funding. Hopefully, it will be the home of the men’s Denham Football Club, which means Denham will be hosting them as well as the very successful Denham United Ladies FC at New Denham, whom we assisted to obtain funding for their now FA standard changing facilities.

After careful consideration, the current world health crisis made me realise that l wanted to spend more time with my family and friends, and with the parish office now fully staffed l felt it was the right time to Sadly, our aim to take over the redundant step down as Chairman, so l will no longer Scout Hut for our coffee mornings, volunteer and youth meetings, Men in Sheds and be writing our monthly article. similar proposals for the benefit of our resiOn looking back, I was elected Chairman in dents, has not come to fruition yet, but we 2013 and did not realise until now that I had are still trying to source appropriate premheld the role for 7 years, but the older you ises. get the quicker the years fly by! Dear Resident

July 2020

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Chairman of Denham Parish Council. My thanks go to Cllr Marilyn Heath for her hard work and efforts as Chairman over the last seven years. July 2020 sees us in unprecedented times, the Covid-19 Pandemic may have restricted our movements and daily lives but I am pleased to say the Parish Council has been working continuously, running virtual meetings and home working to push on with major projects and local issues. The Neighbourhood Plan The Parish Council has been working on the Denham Neighbourhood Plan since 2017 and it has now reached a stage where we are able to consult with residents on the document before it goes to the planning inspector. This is an extremely important document and we encourage you to take time to read it and feedback your views and comments. A Steering Group made up of both residents and councillors identified key green spaces, views, historical sites and building characteristics that make Denham unique. The Group felt that these characteristics must be considered when planning decisions are made to ensure Denham is preserved and protected in years to come. Please look out for a leaflet which will be coming through your doors with details on how to view and comment on the Neighbourhood Plan. The consultation will run from Monday 22nd June 2020 to Friday 31st July 2020. For further information please visit our website www.denhambucks-pc.gov.uk Denham Community Support We are delighted to have been able to champion the great work of the volunteers at the Denham Community Support group who have offered a lifeline to vulnerable residents in Denham, collecting medication, shopping and also running the new Food Bank during Covid-19. The Parish Council would like to congratulate them on their great work. 14

If you know of a neighbour or resident who could benefit from some support please call 01895 725105. Parish Events At this time of the year we had planned numerous community events for Denham residents however the current restrictions have meant cancellation of our Annual Parish Meeting, Music on the Green events, the annual Beating The Bounds walk, tea dances for our older residents and our special VE Day children’s tea party. We hope to start running events again once it is safe to do so. Around The Parish Covid-19 restrictions have meant that there have been some interruptions in our regular maintenance programme. We would like to assure you that our contractors are now returning to full operation and will be regularly maintaining our grass verges. Some residents may have also noticed that we are starting to clean and brighten up Denham. We have started by cleaning our road signs and cutting back vegetation that had been blocking the signs for years. We are working our way around the Parish and will reach your area soon. It is with great pleasure that I can announce that we will be installing some new flower arrangements around each of the five settlements of Denham. Please look out for our fantastic new planters at road junctions and around the Parish. Get Involved Did you know that all Parish Council meetings are open to the public you can watch and even attend? All of our meetings are currently being held virtually via Zoom video conferencing. As a Denham resident you can watch the meeting and even contribute your view at the start of the meeting. For more details please visit site www.denhambucks-pc.gov.uk

B&M Care: A New Vision for Person-Centred Dementia Care works within a framework that combines theory and practice to instil an innovative model of care where feelings, enablement, and the essence of ‘connectedness’ are at the forefront of its vision.

The past decade has seen the term ‘person-centred care’ exert considerable influence on the policy, practice and academic literatures within the care sector, so much so that this dementia ‘watchword’ has reflected an emergence of new approaches to delivering highly individualised care.

In attempt to further define the complexities of the above concept, dementia care specialist B&M Care has launched its ‘Rose Model of Dementia Care’: a studies-based programme that 28

“We learn and evolve by what we do, and with this innovative dementia-specific change programme, B&M Care will sustain its position as a front runner within the field of specialist dementia care,” commented Elaine Thorpe.

Overseen by B&M Care Training Manager Elaine Thorpe, the programme has been delivered to each of the group's care homes, including White Plains on Tilehouse Lane, Denham (pictured).
