Inside this month’s issue

In and Around Iver I honestly can’t remember a year during which so much has happened and yet, at the same time has flown by so quickly. Just as a reminder, here are some of the crazy things that have happened so far this year: Bushfires across Australia, Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step down from their duties as senior royals, Iran launched ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq, A Ukrainian flight crashes in Tehran killing all 176 passengers, Kobe and Gigi Bryant died in a helicopter crash, The UK withdrew from the EU, Trump was acquitted by the Senate on both articles of impeachment, Harvey Weinstein is convicted after a trial lasting weeks, the WHO declared the coronavirus a pandemic, The DOW took its worst drop since 1987, Netflix documentary the Tiger King, made Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin household names, The Summer Olympics was cancelled until next year, The UK and many parts of the world spent weeks in lockdown, The Pentagon released videos of possible UFOs, Giant insects called Murder Hornets were reported, George Floyd was killed by a police officer, causing protests across the world, wearing facemasks has become the norm. Who knows what’s next! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident

September 2020

As we move into September, so far, 2020 has certainly been a challenge! Lockdown and movement restrictions have put normal life on hold and this is proving frustrating for many. Despite the difficulties parishioners must all remain tolerant and try to help each other. Parish Events The Parish Council sadly has had to cancel the programme of events for the summer including tea dances, VE Day celebrations and Music on the Green. Holding some community events may still be possible later in the year if government guidance allows. Around The Parish The Parish Council has just installed the first Vehicle Activated Sign. These signs activate if an approaching vehicle is detected to be exceeding a pre-set speed limit. The speed limit and warning message illuminate to warn the driver of their speed and encourages them to reduce their speed in a residential area. The sign is being trialled in Tilehouse Lane and if successful it will be installed closer to the primary schools. The Parish Council will also be able to collect data from the sign to identify times and days that may be hot spots. Denham in Bloom The Council is still receiving positive feedback from residents following the installation of new flower planters and baskets in Denham Green and the A40. Further installations have now gone in to Tatling End, New Denham and Higher Denham. The planters are watered and maintained regularly and the blooms have survived the recent heatwave very well. Do you have a hedge? The warm weather and rain showers are encouraging good growth in gardens. If you have a hedge or bush outside your property, now is the ideal time to cut it back. If your hedge or bush is blocking the footpath please keep it tidy and trim it back in line with your property boundary. After lockdown more and more residents are out walking in the Parish and you are encouraged to maintain your hedges and allow everyone to walk safely on the pavements. 34

Community Litter Pick To help keep Denham looking clean, tidy and a pleasant place for both residents and visitors, the Parish Council are arranging a community litter pick between Friday 11th and 25th September 2020. If you would like to help or would like to get involved please call 01895 834709 or email enquiries@denhambucks-pc.gov.uk Neighbourhood Plan Thank you to all those residents that responded to the consultation on the Draft Neighbourhood Plan. The Council is now aiming to collate and review all your responses and prepare for the next stage of submitting the Neighbourhood Plan to Buckinghamshire Council and the Planning Inspectorate. Good Neighbours – Call for volunteers! The Denham Good Neighbour Scheme supports residents with befriending, social activities and general help and support. Before the lockdown volunteers were very active, looking ahead to a less restrictive future, volunteers are needed to help support the scheme in Denham. If you feel you are able to give something back to the community and can spare a few hours please call on 01895 834709 or email at enquiries@denhambucks-pc.gov.uk Potholes and Roads Have you noticed any issues on your street that could be dangerous or need maintenance? It is easy to report issues directly to Buckinghamshire Council. If possible, take a picture of the problem and upload it onto their designated web page https://www.fixmystreet.buckscc.gov.uk/ Follow Us On Twitter To keep up to date with the latest news please follow the Parish Council on the new Twitter Account @DenhamCouncil.
