In and Around Denham Well, having got Blue Monday out of the way last month, which I’m glad to say didn’t manage to affect my good mood that day, my happy demeanour continues as we get closer to my beloved Springtime and warmer weather. In fact, I caught myself on google hunting for flip flops the other day and had to swiftly reign myself in, given socks and central heating aren’t going anywhere just yet! It may still be Winter, but February does have its merits. Valentines Day is always a good excuse for a few vinos and a slap up meal and Tuesday 25th will be time to get the batter mix going and see how many pancakes I can stick to the ceiling this year. Sadly, I’ve finally exhausted the surplus of mince pies from Christmas, so pancake day is yet another excuse to push the notion of starting a diet forward til next month. Meanwhile, back in the office, this month has been busy and any energy reserves made over the xmas break have swiftly been used up. Is it too early to be thinking about holidays? Better still, retirement? Oh well! With neither of those being imminent, We’d better crack on with the next issue. Onwards and Upwards! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Well, what a wet month January has been! Let’s hope the rain will have eased up by the time this edition is distributed. We can all hopefully look forward to better weather and the coming of Spring. It’s also lovely to hear the birds begin to sing once again. We have been extremely busy over the last couple of months pulling our budgets together to cover the period April 2020 to March 2021. Our deadline is with South Bucks District Council who require the information by the end of January in order to take our requirements on board when setting the rates. It is quite intense work for both councillors who chair committees and our office staff keeping track of current expenditure. At the time of writing this, it looks like the contribution from the rates for Denham Parish Council will work out as less than £0.05p a week increase. We hope we won’t need to make a drastic change to this projection as our goal is to keep any increase to a minimum. May we take this opportunity to remind our residents that in order to keep our costs down we very much rely on you to advise us of any issues you come across that are in 30mph areas, such as streetlights out, overgrown hedges, trees and pathways, and graffiti. For example, if there is a tree near you that is obscuring one of our streetlights, please inform our clerk, as we no longer pay for streetlight patrols but rely on residents to keep us informed. There is a number on streetlight poles which we ask you to quote if you can read it. However, a note of caution, whatever you report doesn’t mean that the problem will be instantly resolved as in most cases we rely on contractors and need to get quotes for the fault to be remedied. Unfortunately, our Neighbourhood Plan target of January has slipped. We are still refining it and waiting for a response from SBDC. However, we feel we are nearly there and have decided that all being well, our Annual Parish Meeting, now set for Thursday 19 March, would be an ideal opportunity to present it to you and go out for further consultation. We met our new MP Joy Morrissey in early January when she popped in to see us and we offered to drive her around Denham so that we could point out matters that are of concern to residents. A 12

date has been set in February. Please note below that we hope you will be delighted to see that we have arranged more Sunday dates for our popular Social Tea Dance with Music & Bingo in the New Denham Community Centre, for the months of May, June, September & November. If you could RSVP, ring booking number 01895 834709 or email clerk@denhambuckspc.gov.uk, a few days before to let us know if you are attending, it would assist us catering for enough. We understand the Denham Dining Clubs, now have some vacancies so please contact us if you wish to be put in touch with them.
