Dear Readers Welcome to the February issue of
Inside this month’s issue
In and Around Denham And I’m pleased to say another month closer to Spring time, longer days and brighter weather. I’m really looking forward to being able to get back out into the garden and start tidying up the borders and giving the bbq a polish. Those who know me well won’t be surprised by this. Last year I bought a patio heater / light just to extend my time outside. Thanks to this amazing little piece of kit, we had our first bbq in March and our last one in October. I’m no fan of sitting around indoors all day and would happily cook outdoors all the time if I could. I’m also looking forward to my annual weekend away with the girlies to Butlins no less. A tradition we’ve carried out for many years now, although with every year, I wonder how much longer I can keep up with the four days of heavy drinking and late nights. No doubt I’ll keep up as ever, but the recovery time may well be extended. In the meantime, while we’re waiting for warmer weather and time outdoors, there’s Valentines Day to celebrate and pancakes to be eaten! Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident,
2018 02
So far, it’s been a very cold January with icy winds but the odd day of sunshine, albeit cold, has been very welcome and uplifting. Let’s hope it chases away the winter blues. Firstly, by way of an apology if you have written or phoned us, we have been struggling with the workload in the Parish office as both Roy our coclerk and Susan our administrator has been hit with this awful flu bug that wipes you out. We are aware that there are several tasks outstanding and we are doing our best to cover them. Hopefully by the time you read this article the struggle will be behind us! Meanwhile, Cllr Amarjeet Hans, our Finance Committee Chairman, together with Cllrs Sharon Williams, Sylvia Jeffries and Julia Walsh, the other committee chairmen and vice chairmen, have been working closely on formulating our budgets for next year. Whilst working on the budgets we are looking to the future and aiming to cover several objectives; 1. To accrue an amount each year towards the cost of equipment as it needs replacing; such as playground apparatus which will need renewing over the next few years. 2. To cover the shortfall in County and District spending on weed spraying, essential tree works and other similar items as they arise 3. To refurbish premises in Denham Green that we have taken over to act as a hub for the community. This can provide an area that can be used by our volunteers to run our Good Neighbour Scheme and hopefully set up a Men in Sheds type initiative to allow us to help with support for elderly residents 4. We have again taken on the leases for Tilehouse and Alderbourne Fields for our residents use and need to get them back into good order 42
5. To start a fund that will enable us to install a multi-purpose lit games area on the Tilehouse Field 6. To identify an area and install an outside gym to encourage regular exercise 7. To identify an area and install some outside seating for youths 8. To continue to host events that can bring the community together 9. To host a First World War Centenary, global commemoration 10. To set aside match funding. i.e. The Parish have been exploring ways to secure additional sources of funding which will require matching by the Parish for new projects As you can see there is an awful lot to achieve and we have set ourselves some high targets to meet. We are determined to do our utmost on behalf of the community and look forward to pushing ahead with our projects. Your help would be appreciated so if you have some spare time please get in touch. It can be very rewarding to help others. Save the Date: The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on the 16 May 2018 The Parish Council meets on the 2nd Monday of every month (except August) at 19:30 in the Parish Office, Rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham, and residents are always welcome to attend.
Marilyn Heath - Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our grateful thanks to In and Around Denham for providing this platform for us

Tilda & Dinky
Urgent Appeal TILDA & DINKY have gone missing from Uxbridge Football Club, nr Stockley Park, Horton Road, West Drayton UB7. Have you seen them or do you have any information? Both are much loved and Dinky needs daily medication. Full details and contact numbers on DogLost: http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php? dogId=123739 http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php? dogId=123738 If you regularly see foxes in your garden, they have probably already found a good food supply in the area and foxes are excellent scavengers. How can I deter foxes from using my garden? Remove access to potential food sources, keep garages and shed doors closed, are just some please visit the RSPCA main website for more information. Foxes call throughout the year, but normally only howl or scream during the mating season, which peaks in January. During the mating season it may be worth considering the use of ear plugs if the howling disturbs you.
