Dear Readers Welcome to the January issue of

Inside this month’s New Year issue

In and Around Denham I hope you and your families all had a wonderful Christmas and managed to spend time resting and celebrating with loved ones. And now, welcome to 2018! A bright, shiny new year and a chance to set some goals and aspirations for the next twelve months. I don’t think I’ll be doing anything drastically different, but my focus will definitely be on having more free time to spend with my family and beautiful little granddaughter. I’ve also realised that making time to invest in yourself is really important and something I wasn’t very good at last year. Constantly working in the belief that I mustn’t take time out may have got the job done but was I really working as effectively as I could? So, it’s back to the gym for me (a place I haven’t visited for an embarrassingly long time), regular lunch dates to catch up with friends and a daily break away from my desk. Relatively small changes, but ones that hopefully will make a big difference. I’m not big on New Year Resolutions, but something small and manageable might just make all the difference. Until next month... Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident,

2018 01

Welcome to the New Year which we hope will bring us all good health and happiness. The Communities Committee, chaired by Cllr Sharon Williams, put some great events on for us last year and are now busily planning this year’s. They would appreciate any offers of help from the community, so please let us know if you can spare any time. Meanwhile, we are all aware that there are those in our community who may suffer from disabilities and/or loneliness and it is our hope that we can help those in need of some assistance and friendship to ease their situation. We have not been very successful at starting up our Good Neighbour Scheme due in part to being short staffed and overworked (and my own health problems brought on by a couple of accidents last year) but we hope this year will see a surge of enthusiasm by both Councillors and Volunteers to get this initiative off the ground! There is another very popular ‘Tea Dance’ being organised for Sunday 21 January for the older generation, which besides having a DJ will also have Bingo and refreshments. An Armed Forces Day celebration is also being organised with ‘Tea & Cakes’ in the grounds of St Mary’s Church, Saturday 30 June 2018, and we are also looking to put something on for the WW1 Centenary in September this year, so watch this space and our website for more details. Further good news is We are indebted to the Scout Group who are in the process of passing over to us the lease of the disused Scout Hut in Denham Green. We have a fair amount of work to do in bringing it up to scratch after it has laid empty for so long, but we are really 50

excited over the possibilities of its future use for the community. Is there something you would like to see the hall used for regularly or for a one off? If so please let us know. Also, we are really pleased that our website has finally been renewed thanks to Cllr Julia Walsh who stepped in to engage an external company to pull it together for us. We hope you like it and will visit us regularly at www.denhambucks-pc.gov.uk . There are still some areas of the site that need populating but please email our clerk if you discover any teething problems with any parts of the new site. Further news is there are discussions under way for a ‘Virtual Dementia Tour Bus’ to park for a day in Denham to allow residents to experience what it is like for someone suffering from this disease and we will post the date on our website once confirmed. The replacement of Streetlight Lampheads has now been completed across the parish, barring any that need corrective measures, except for the conservation area of Denham Village for which we are still awaiting information. Save the Date: The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on the 16 May 2018 The Parish Council meets on the 2nd Monday of every month (except August) at 19:30 in the Parish Office, Rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham, and residents are always welcome to attend but there is no entry once the meeting begins. Marilyn Heath - Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our grateful thanks to In and Around Denham for providing this platform for us

We are extremely proud of all our award winners for the passion which they have shown towards the School Games and their dedication to providing opportunities for all young people to take part in competitive school sport. “At a time when young people are becoming less healthy and less active, the School Games provides opportunities for millions across the country to participate in sport and reap the benefits of an active lifestyle both on and off the field. Schools like St. Helen‟s College are really leading the way.”
