Dear Readers Welcome to the March issue of
Inside this month’s issue
In and Around Denham I can’t tell you how glad I am to have got February out of the way. Never before have I known so many people to go down sick with flu and other ghastly bugs. My entire household has been riddled with one thing after another and eventually my protestations of “I can’t be ill, I’m self-employed” apparently fell on the Universe’s deaf ears! In fact, not only did I end up with the full collection of ailments, I was stuck in bed sick for an epic 11 days. I think that has to be my personal record and a very sharp reminder that when you’re running a business single handedly, you really are at the mercy of the Gods! Thankfully, normality has returned and here we are, in my most favourite month of the year. I love everything about March. It’s truly the start of Spring. The days get longer (yes, those clocks go forward on 31st), I can start getting the garden ready again and there’s bound to be at least one cheeky little bbq. It’s also birthday month for both myself and the magazines and whilst I’m not so keen to brag about my own age, I’m proud to say that In and Around Publishing is officially 13 years old. Add all that to the fact that I’ll be munching pancakes on the 5th and hopefully being treated on Mothers Day (31st) - all in all, a wonderful month ahead! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident
2019 03
17 March 3-5pm New Denham Community Centre, Afternoon Social with Bingo.
Have you walked the A412 footpath from the junction with Village Road along to Denham Station yet, after dusk? We are very pleased that our lighting project has worked out so well. However, we still have a couple of challenges to overcome. One is the trees from Denham Place that overhang the path and the other is the flooding that flows off the main road. We will continue to press ‘Transport for Bucks’ to resolve these difficulties.
19 May Beating the Bounds. If you want to know more about any of these events please email our clerk.
Urbanix are installing our Outdoor Gym Equipment this month on the Way & Tillard recreation ground which is located off Cheapside Lane and behind the Denham Infants School. They are also planning a special opening event at Easter, so keep a look out for the information posters and come and join us. We continue to work on the Neighbourhood Plan. Have you any concerns about future development in the area you reside? Would you be concerned if the house next door was replaced by a block of flats, or would you welcome that development? Should we provide more facilities for the youth or other sections of our community? Do you want more industry, office blocks & housing or Sports fields and a Community Centre? Please tell us your views by attending the sessions being held in your area and voice your opinion. Do not miss this opportunity to influence future plans. Please do not just leave it to others – GET INVOLVED contact clerk@denhambucks-pc.gov.uk now for more information even if you missed the meetings.
Events 9 March between 10 & 12 at St Marks Hall, Green Tiles Lane Launch of our Good neighbours Scheme. Please pop in and find out what it’s all about. 12
Volunteers We are still looking for a helping hand from our residents and local businesses. There are a variety of tasks you could help us with, so if you have any spare time please contact us.
Save the Day 8 MAY 7:30pm Make a note in your diary to attend our Annual Parish Meeting. This is being held in the Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, which is quite a big hall so don’t leave us to rattle around in it on our own! We are hoping there will be some stalls of community interest. Denham Parish Council meets on the 2nd Monday of every month (except August) at 7.30pm in the Parish Office at the rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham. Residants are always welcome to attend.

Looking for Loving Homes Cynthia & Mindy Cynthia and Mindy are two young and very cute female ferrets looking for a loving home. Like most ferrets, who are sociable and intelligent animals, they are very inquisitive and love to play and run around. Both girls enjoy human company, but being young do need to get used to more handling. They need a home where they will be provided with all the companionship, care and essential mental and physical stimulation these delightful creatures require to stay happy and healthy. If you can offer an experienced ferret home to our lovely little ladies, we would love to hear from you.
fully loyal and loving lifelong companion. Josie’s puppies Huey and Boe are now just over 7 weeks old. They are a delightfully cheeky pair who are becoming increasingly adventurous and though they have had fantastic early life training from mum Josie, they now need to prepare for their own lives Did you know? A female ferret is called a jill, the and more training and socialisation in their forever name for a male is a hob, baby ferrets are called kits homes. They will be homed individually and don’t be and a group of ferrets is known as a busyness or fooled by the amazingly chilled out photo – these business! boys will keep you on your toes! If you have lots of love, time and puppy patience to offer one of our Josie and puppies Huey & Boe lovely boys, we’d love to hear from you. Beautiful lurcher Josie came into our care after being abandoned in a field with her two puppies. This lovely girl who at one year old is little more than a baby herself was cold and emaciated, yet despite being starving had never failed to feed and give the best possible care she could manage to her little ones – at whatever cost to herself. Since being with us they have all flourished and now that the pups are nearly ready to leave her care, it’s time for Josie to start looking for the love she so deserves herself. She is a very gentle quiet girl who enjoys nothing more than a cuddle and human company. She walks beautifully on the lead and does now understand some basic commands. Toys are currently not her thing, but hopefully with time she will learn how to enjoy playtime and regain her own lost puppyhood. Our gorgeous Josie will make someone a wonder 26

DENHAM WAR MEMORIAL in ST MARY’S CHURCHYARD IN DENHAM VILLAGE This historic monument is thought to be the first monument erected after the end of the first-world war in 1918. It was designed by the renowned architect Francis Bacon. Some time ago, the Parish Council was approached by local residents regarding some 33 servicemen who died in action from Denham whose names are missing from the monument. The Parish Council has researched the names and completed profiles of each serviceman; dates of birth, dates of death, place of death and whether from the Army, Navy or Airforce. It is only right and proper that the names of the servicemen killed in action and missing from the war memorial are recognised and added to the war memorial, to this end, the Parish Council have applied for a grant from the War Memorials Trust to help finance the project. Listed below are the names of the servicemen that need to be added to the war memorial, to our best belief, this is the complete list. However, if anyone knows of any further names and can supply their full name, date of birth, date of death and proof that they were from Denham. They must have been killed in action abroad or died in hospital back in England directly from their injuries sustained in action.
