Dear Readers Welcome to the November issue of
Inside this month’s issue
In and Around Denham And more wet, cold, miserable weather. I’ve never been a fan of the autumn or winter months. Much as I can appreciate the changing of landscapes and the romantic notion of cosy nights with candles and throws, to me it doesn’t compensate for the shorter days, frizzy hair and not being able to plan anything recreational, beyond a trip down the pub or somewhere that involves being indoors. Sadly, even our planned day to Peppa Pig World had to be put on hold. As much as Summer-Hope would have loved it, none of us were keen enough to spend an entire day walking around in the rain. Instead, much of her birthday was spent touring the aisles of a huge toy store. Enjoyable for the first hour or so, after which I could feel myself slumping, whilst darling grandchild whizzed up and down on a dozen different electric cars, pedal cars and even remote controlled cars. Suitable car finally chosen (a Porsche Macan which is now sat bang in the middle of my lounge), we continued through the Peppa Pig paraphernalia, too many other toys and games to mention, until payment and final escape was reached. I can honestly say, I’ve never been quite so glad to see a glass of wine after a shopping trip. It’s going to take some serious psyching up to get me back there again before Christmas! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident
November 2019
How very gloomy it gets with the evenings drawing in. If you went out at the wrong time in early October, the rain was like a bucket of water being thrown over you and horrible to contend with if you were driving! Let’s hope it settles down. By the time you read this the clocks would have changed, and the evenings will have become very long indeed. This past month has seen us very busy scouting round and gathering quotes for trees that need some hard pruning once the leaves fall. The Committee has approved many to be tackled in our green spaces and play areas that we had thankfully budgeted for. Our annual RoSPA inspection of our play areas highlighted some minor repairs on some of the play equipment and those have already been actioned. HELP REQUIRED. We are looking for some help with small HANDYMAN jobs such as trimming back branches obstructing streetlights or walkways, strimming grassed areas, tightening bolts or fixing and oiling gates, etc. If you can help on a paid ad hoc basis, please email clerk@denhambuckspc.gov.uk We are also looking for a volunteer who can spare a few hours once a week to give us some TYPING help in the office. We have been able to push ahead with our Neighbourhood Plan thanks to some of your Parish Councillors and other local residents giving up their valuable time. We have a target date of January 2020 for resident consultation events that you will all be invited to. We hope you can attend and approve the plan. Have you noticed over the summer that there were a few areas not far from Denham that have been sown with meadow flowers? We’d really like to trial a few areas our12
selves. If you have any advice or interest in helping us with this project, we would love to hear from you. Thanks again to the generosity of the New Denham Community Centre committee. By letting us use their venue for free, we were able to hold yet another ‘Sunday Tea Dance Social’ with Bingo, with John Smith entertaining the group with music by popular request! Thanks also to the Co-op and Wenzel’s in Denham Green for donating prizes and sandwiches respectively. Their generosity enables us to hold many more of these events which are thoroughly enjoyed and provide a much sought-after social interaction on a Sunday. Thanks also to our Local Area Funding committee who have provided funding towards a new outside gym in the Knighton Way Lane playing field, and the CCTV cameras installed down the Pyghtle. We are still looking for funding opportunities towards our next two defibrillators for Denham Green and Tatling End. Can anyone help us? Save the Date: Friday 6 December, 6pm, Denham Village Green Annual Christmas Carols You are most welcome to attend our monthly Parish Council Meetings on the second Monday of every month (except August) in the Parish Office, rear of the Denham Village Memorial Hall. If you are interested and care about Denham and how we manage it, why not join us as an Associate Member? Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our thanks to In and Around for hosting this page
