Dear Readers

Inside this Month’s

Welcome to the

issue

September issue of In and Around Denham And what a busy time it’s been. First there was the party in the garden. A joint affair to celebrate my wonderful Mum’s 80th and Sammy’s 18th, whilst giving my 50th a fleeting acknowledgement (the more fleeting the better). We chose what was undoubtedly the rainiest day of the year. Saved only by the loan of numerous gazebos from friends and fabulous guests who turned up in their party wear, quickly adapted to the more festival like conditions and continued to drink and dance regardless. A special thanks to Steve Carter, who having worked til earlier that evening, came along with his decks and played a brilliant set before heading home for a few hours sleep, ready to work again the next day. He had Mum up and dancing like a teenager. We also had a large family night out at a Greek Restaurant to further celebrate Mum’s birthday. More music and more dancing. My god, that woman puts me to shame! Once again, she danced all night and had everyone else up too. Our annual day trip to the coast completed Mum’s celebrations, at the end of which, she looks great and frankly, I’m exhausted! Until next month! Angela & Sammy

Sally Izzy We have a large number of black and black and white cats in our care. They are usually thought to be the most unpopular colour for potential new owners. We would urge people to look beyond an animal's appearance. Their coat colour makes no difference to how much love they have to give. Black cats can make lovely family pets. There are many in our care ready for their new home and we would love to hear from anyone who is willing to give them a new life.

Dear Resident

2017 09

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are holding three meetings in September. If you want YOUR VIEWS heard by your Parish Councillors you should attend. We have booked three venues in September on different evenings in the hope that one of them will be convenient for you to attend. They are: Wednesday 6 September, 7:30 to 9:30, NEW DENHAM COMMUNITY CENTRE, Oxford Road, New Denham. Thursday 14 September, 7:30 to 9:30, ST MARKS HALL, Green Tiles Lane, Denham Green. Tuesday 19 September, 7:30 to 9:30, MAY COLES ROOM, Rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham As many residents and businesses have raised concerns about how scruffy Denham has become in comparison to other neighbouring boroughs, these meetings are being held specifically for the purpose of collecting and understanding your views and priorities for the area. As a community what do you think should be our top priorities to address? Litter, uncut grass verges, lines of sight at junctions, weeds, flooded gullies, lack of double yellow lines? Maybe your concerns aren’t even listed here! Is it burglaries, lack of facilities for youths, speeding, potholes, lack of groups to join for a natter, lack of care in the community, or have we still not 54

listed your concerns? What are your views? Do you want us to spend more money on caring for the area? Would you be willing to pay an extra few pence a week to improve the area? At our last Parish Council meeting we unanimously agreed that we should ask the residents and businesses in Denham to participate in discussions with us prior to our annual budget meetings starting in October. Please join us on one of the above dates. Your Parish Councillors are committed to trying to make Denham a better place to live and work, but we need your input. What are your views? If you have ideas for making the street where you live or work that little bit better please let us know. This is our Community – TOGETHER WE CAN!! SAVE THE DATES We may have one more ‘Sunday Jazz on the Village Green’ event in September but the date has yet to be confirmed so look out for the posters. The Parish Council meets on the 2nd Monday of every month (except August) at 19:30 in the Parish Office, Rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham, and residents are always welcome to attend but there is no entry once the meeting begins. Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our grateful thanks to In and Around Denham for providing this platform for us
